@@Hamster_Joy maybe they are referring to everything (silicone + screws etc) also gasoline for the car to get to ikea everything has increased in price now sadly
@@Hamster_Joy I don’t know where you are from but in the US it costs just about $150 to make it. (I made it myself with the exact products listed) you need 3- $20 table tops 1-$25 glass shelf plus all the other needed products (screws ect..)
I love how straight to the point and easy to understand all of your videos are! This is perfect for me as a time strapped, budget student. Thank you! ❤️
A month ago I bought all the materials to build my own tank for my new ham ham. I was inspired by your build and made my own version. I spent over $100 on materials, but she loves her new space. Thanks! Can't wait to build more of your cute builds to spice up her home!
I'm currently building this, and let me say I love what you've done here! I'm curious to see how you clean his cage though. I have an idea, but it might be an interesting video if you show us how it's done with this cage! EDIT also in the US, I paid a lot more for this tank than your budget. It's worth it though for my hammy to be happy.
My dwarf hamster of 4 years, named Noodles, died not too long ago. It's really relaxing to watch these videos they remind me of her. (also don't be sad she lived a long playful life, died of cancer, and I'm sure she's enjoying chewing up everything in hamster heaven right now ha) The music on all your videos is just adorable too, it's very soft. Also, Vanilla is so handsome! So pretty and well groomed and super friendly :D the best! Thank you !
you are very talented!! not only with your diy's but you photoshop/video techniques are beautifully done, i don't even own a hamster and i'm subscribing! 💕
At the 4:00 minute mark, we discovered that you really need to put washers when you attach the sides at the bottom. You are only driving the screw through cardboard and into wood. The screw will collapse right through the side without a washer to stop it. Otherwise a great video tutorial. My daughter is very excited!
Holly Smith I did a small strip of wood about 2.5 inches wide because I experienced this problem as well and wanted to make sure it was secured properly and I would be able to move it. I also attached small legs to the bottom.
The centre is cardboard, but there's thin strips of wood along the side edges. The screws need to be exactly 1.7cm in from the sides for maximum strength, as that's the middle of where the two bits of wood meet, any further in and you'll be drilling through cardboard. Hope this helps anyone else making it
+damian nize It's great, nowhere is accessible to chew, other than the roof if you have tall toys. One issue is that small bits of bedding slide down the front behind the glass which is a bit annoying
You are so talented and your videos are always so easy to follow and not to mention cute as hell! I cant have hamsters since they are illegal in Australia but your videos always give me the ham fix I need 😊
I'm late but Ikea said that the Hemnes glass top is now out of stock. They already named it Alex glass top but it isn't available on the website. Thank you for your convience.
Using this tutorial I made two of these for my two hedgehogs! I used the extra bit that you cut off for a shelf inside and it gives something to mount their wheel on. They're absolutely perfect! I attached the top brackets to the sides with washers for spacing because I find it easier to lift the glass rather than pull it out to the side, but this video was absolutely perfect! Thank you so much. If I could post pictures I'd stick them here!
VanillaHamHam, wouldn't ants, lizard and other small animals make home in the holes on the side LINNMON table top? (the part where u cut) Is there a way to prevent it?pls answer me.
I'm making this tomorrow and I can't wait!!! Got my ikea order today 😍 Pets at home definitely sell hamster cages that are waaaay too small. Thanks so much for posting this 💕
Wow this video is so well put together, if only every DIY video was this perfectly explained👏🏻 I don't have a hamster but because of your videos I want one.
Aw the hemnes range has now been discontinued! So no glass front available anymore. I used an old malm glass top we had and some pieces from bargain corner for the bottom and sides! It’s worked really well, I’ve also added legs x
I swear, I wish I could do this DIY stuff and actually had the space for a massive hamster cage like that! I have the Alaska atm but to be honest I don't really like it XD
If you live in the US and you know how expensive it is when it adds up then you can get the linnmon table (if you want it off the floor) and get two on the linnmon table tops instead of 3. Where I live right now on the IKEA website it is only 8.99 for the table tops so in total it would be around $45
Omg thank you! I found a cage at petsmart that's the minimum but I want to build a bigger one with glass so I can see clearly! The cheap plastic and barred cage was 40 dollars and this Linnmon cage will last longer and is bigger! Thank you!
I'm planning on building this. However, according to my vet, it doesn't have enough ventilation for mice with respiratory infection. So I'll have to add more mesh on the back and sides.
Its amazing how much effort you out into making your pets lives amazing! I acknowledge you alot.Keep making these videos and what you do.I enjoy your content lots!!

I'm not very handy at all and I think paying someone to make something like this for me would cost upwards of £200. I've seen alternatives online but they also come with very mixed reviews and my conclusion is that you need to be handy/crafty in order to be able to provide a suitable home for your animal. You can try the ikea detolf although it’ll need a lid and unfortunately most people recommend a lifted lid for bedding. It also can make female Syrians stressed because it’s long and thin but 900 sq inches in total. So frustrating that I need to be handy to make something appropriate!
Kierra Corrigan-Little I know it seamed a little bit confusing since everyone said it’s discontinued but I think they brought it back check on ikea’s online site and see if they have it in your store. I used the same one that she used
I am going to make this cage with my dad but I can’t find the glass front on ikea’s website, and if I can’t find it I’ll use plexiglass instead. Also love your vids, they really keep me busy trying to create your masterpieces for my little ham ham. Thank you for your tips and entertainment to the community!
Very nice! have you thought about cleaning out the rough edges and filling them with wood ? it's not necessary at all . just might make those rough edges a Lil more durable.

Beautiful! If only it still cost $48 to make. Now it’s closer to $150
Yeah I don’t own any power tools also so I’d have to buy them also but I’d consider it
Why would it be 150? I just looked online and the tabletops are still 15. The glass has gone up to 25 for the size recommended in this video

can i build this cage (but larger) for a guinea pig?

try using c&c grids to make a cage a lot of guinea pig owners have those types of cages:)
Use c and c grids
I have mine (Guinea Pigs) in this cage. The minimal recommended sizes are 100 x 50. And this is even a little bit bigger (56 instead of 50).
