    I feel like hamster UA-camrs are a dying breed, and I'm so happy to have found you. Not only do you have super unique ideas but the quality of your videos are also really nice! It's a gem of a channel :)

      Aw, thank you!! You deserve all the hearts ❤❤❤ 😀 I wish I could do UA-cam full time. I have so many things to share and very limited time to film and edit them. I hope people continue to start UA-cam channels. I hardly watch TV anymore. I mostly watch UA-cam. I prefer the content on UA-cam, and I love being able to pause and go back if I missed something. Another thing I love about UA-cam is how much I learn from others. It surprises me when I have conversations with people and I realize how much I know about so many things, thanks to UA-camrs 🙂

      Thank you! I had to have the cloud background, even though I knew my hamsters would destroy it, and they have LOL. Yes, my schedule is upload whenever I finally finish a video and whenever I get the chance. Apparently Noon on Monday is not a good time to upload, but I couldn't wait any longer. It's been way too long already 🙂

      @@HammyTime have you ever made a raised mesh lid on a plastic tote? It’s supposed to give more clearance for a wheel and platforms so you can have deeper bedding. I’m trying to figure out the best way to make them using some of your methods from your totes too.

    • @HammyTime
      @HammyTime  2 роки тому

      @@TeaCupSimmer I've never made a raised lid but I have seen them. I can't remember where. You could cut out curved sides, like arches, out of wire hardware cloth, and then sew them to the top hardware cloth piece with wire. You could zip tie them, but there might be too many gaps. Wire hardware cloth is hard to cut and work with. I always cut myself, so wear gloves and even eye protection if you can. You would need to bend out the bottom a little to be able to attach to the lid with zip ties or wire. 🙂

    I've been waiting for someone to design a diy for something like this. Thank you for sharing! While I won't be doing a big build like this for a while, I took my notes and can start planning it out until I'm ready to build. @@HammyTime I do like them separate but for space wise, it makes sense to stack them. I've actually been talking about it for a few months and then boom, your video is uploaded lol instead of buying all new materials, just use what I already have. Thank you! I mostly spot clean. My Syrian hamster, Evie will bring up all her dirty bedding from her burrow and pile it up next to the glass where I can easily get it and remove it. My dwarf hamster, Theo has tunneled every inch of his bedding, so his latrines are probably in several places, which gives them time to dry out, so I don't have to clean as often. Sometimes he brings up dirty bedding too and I remove it. 🙂

    • @HammyTime
      @HammyTime  Рік тому

      Thank you. I would have made a bigger one but at the time the price of materials was astronomical because of supply issues. The price of wood alone was ridiculous. I always liked Vanilla Ham Ham’s IKEA Linnmon cage, and because the IKEA cost of materials was so affordable I decided to modify her design. I’m content with the size because it’s tall enough to get 10” of bedding and still have room for everything at the surface for my hamster to enjoy. Each enclosure takes 6 bags of the largest packs of bedding you can buy to fill up just one of the enclosures. Each bag costs approx $20. The doors on the side is the best part about this cage. My hamsters love the side door. A playpen is a must, especially for a Syrian hamster. It doesn’t matter how large your enclosure may be, a Syrian will always want to get past any and every wall they see lol. The only changes I have made is I had to line the bottom and sides with tile to stop my Syrian from chewing through the wood. He managed to chew a hole in the bottom corner and was able to escape. He was able to get out and back in because it was low to the ground. I discovered the hole when I was cleaning and found wood bits on the floor. He was asleep in his burrow. He must of had a blast coming and going as he pleased for a few days lol. I felt bad fixing it. It may be possible to make this cage with larger IKEA materials. They have different sizes of table tops and glass tops that might work to expand the size. You may have to get glass custom cut to size elsewhere.

      @HammyTime  Рік тому

      I use one in the sink too lol 😆I was considering mice for the top enclosure 😀 It took me a long time because I was making it up as I went along. I also like to complicate things for myself like making custom brackets to hold the glass on. If I made another it wouldn't take as long because I know exactly what to do. The only thing I would do differently is ceramic tile the floor and sides to prevent chewing. My current Syrian hamster managed to chew his way out in the corner. He's in the bottom enclosure so he was able to come and go as he pleased for a few days before I discovered it lol 🤣 If hamsters can get back into their enclosures they will come back. I had to use a strong wood filler and then used sheets of glass to cover the bottom and sides. Overall I'm very happy with it. I wish it was bigger but I had to work with IKEA parts at the time so I was limited. I built it when the price of wood was at its highest.

    Hey, thank you so much for posting this. I'm interested in building this cage but it looks like the appropriate sized glass top is no longer available. Do you have any ideas on what I could use instead for the glass panel if I still want to use the linnmon tabletops?

    • @HammyTime
      @HammyTime  2 роки тому +1

      If it's sold out it will be back in stock soon. I had to pick up mine from the store because there were none available online. Shortly after I got mine they were available online again of course. If you can't get glass from IKEA you can try a home improvement store or a local glass company. You can have it custom cut. Acrylic glass would be great, but unfortunately it's very expensive. Acrylic costs more than glass. Try call a glass company to get prices. I avoided that process and used the IKEA glass, so I don't know any specific place to order glass from. 🙂

    • @HammyTime
      @HammyTime  2 роки тому +1

      Oops! Actually, I had to order my glass online. I picked up the table tops from the store. The glass goes out of stock a lot and then gets restocked eventually. The glass was back in stock at the store right after I ordered mine online.

      Thank you! You will definitely need your parent's help with the build. It was the first time I ever used a circular saw and I was nervous. The wood is easy to cut but the saw itself can be very dangerous if not used properly. It's scary even when used properly. Maybe you can have your parents cut the pieces for you and you can put it together. The glass is fragile so you would need help with that too. The saws are very expensive so you would want to ask your parents to help you figure out how to get the pieces cut. 🙂
