Every musician has his own flavor, feel and sound yours is so distinctive its awesome. You has always been one of my favorites, take a bow Larry you're one of the best!
Always loved Larry and hes been a big inspiration on my own playing.."Larry, the sweetest story teller on a fretboard" I dont believe he was in his zone on this one and his tone didnt have that warmth that he usually has..hey but still its Larry and hes already proven hes one of the best!!..and theres only really a handfull of them.
Wot a combo for the elderly gent such as myself who wishes to improve & learn - Larry, The Dan and TrueFire - oh yes !! ps Imagine the shade of green I turned when a (non-Dan fan) friend casually commented that she seen "some guy called Lenny Carlton" (sic) at Minehead Monsters of Rock the other year.
I know this is a very late (like a year) answer to the question what song is this, but the name of the song is Room 335. I've got the old vinyl LP. Beautiful.
Sounds really great! Is this backing track available for download somewhere? I like better this version though! I chose this one for my exams :D pretty please!
andocrates Hah, I never noticed that Peg and Hill Street Blues sound quite similar. I just assumed this was based on/inspired by Peg since Larry worked with Steely Dan quite a bit.
Late to this, but...Hey, at least he uses his pinky. Lots of would-be guitarists totally forget they have a fourth finger. It's weak, but it's worth building its strength up, lest you get stuck forever in ring-finger blues mode. Of course Django managed brilliantly with just two working fingers...
The transition/size difference between inlays 9-12 seems odd to me. Is that stock on this model of 335 (68' I believe)? Great playing and tone for sure! Peacefully smooth.
+Steve Anger You can get really really close to Larry's tone/sound with those pickups,, in almost any Gibson-"ES" series double cutaway semi-hollow body guitar! I had a very nice tobacco sunburst es-333, and it delivered that same tone as Larry gets, minus the dumbles contribution!!!
Sharp observation! the fretboard was probably shaved during refret, the pearl at the 9th fret is somewhat gone at the treble side and a bit transparent at te edge.
I love Larry Carlton but this performance sorta sucks. The guitars 2nd (B) string is out of tune, slightly flat, and the amp sound is just very weak making for poor recording. Maybe he was having an off day? The Larry Carlton I love was just on holiday in this video.
I think the tone can be put down to the fact that this is a lesson on how to play the track. So the emphasis is on clarity for the student. I must confess that I didn't notice the B string being slightly flat. Like you I'd cut this man a lot of slack given what music he's produced for us over the years.
That is nonsense, I have excellent pitch and that B string aint flat- get the wax syringed out your ears mate, this is a demonstration not a performance.
I think you completely missed the point. This is an instructional lesson for us to learn. Hence Larry is playing it as simplistically as he possibly can and technically correct to show the fingering. That in my world is superb and easy to follow, and certainly does not suck. I think you owe Larry an apology.
Larry started a whole new generation of AWESOME fusion guitarists! One of the all time greats!

If I had to live my life with just one song, one artist, this would be it. So reminds me of my years in LA. Driving the 134 and the 210.
The master and legend
The first LC song that I learned to play both the rhythm and solo parts to back in 1978
335 is the best ever guitar song as far as i am concerned.....
really cool, theres rock, jazz and country in this....

Da hora mestre!!!!!!👏👏👏👏👏
Me encanta su estilo tengo más 25 años escuchandolo
Good performance by Larry!
This guy can play this in his sleep...
And he's holding back as well to keep the basics of this song light phrasing.
What DVD is this?
Great playing, great tone (always love PEG), great use of the rests (the most powerful funk tool) what else say? Awesome!
What’s PEG??
@@Neuroguitarist it's the Steely Dan tune from which Larry made this lesson 😉
actually jay graydon plays on peg
@@m1saunders oh I didn't know that, thanks!
So awesome!
Is that larry carlton playing? this video is helpful because it helps me learn the song juts by watching his fingers

Peg steely dan?
Great !
Love it!
Omg the tone
+Ahmad Ikram Bin Ahmad Hisham The tone,,, Larry IS the tone,,,,,!
Sonny Cannon pretty sure Larry’s body isn’t making that sound lol. Good hands and damn good gear makes damn good tone.

ty larry for your gift. favorite Christmas song is Ringing the bells of Christmas
Is he playing his signature or a Gibson?
Sounds really great! Is this backing track available for download somewhere? I like better this version though! I chose this one for my exams :D pretty please!
che finezza,,grazie
THANX LARRY!
さすが!
This is peg by steeley dan right?
Pretty much. They even came out around the same time.
It's really not, it was a hot sty;e at the time. It sounds more like his most famous composition - Hill Street Blues
andocrates Hah, I never noticed that Peg and Hill Street Blues sound quite similar. I just assumed this was based on/inspired by Peg since Larry worked with Steely Dan quite a bit.
Alex Padilla larry carlton worked on some albums with steely dan so they have similar sounds especially the guitar work/solos
+andocrates Mike Post wrote Hill Street Blues, but Larry Carlton played guitar on it. I hear more Peg in the tempo and feel.
good!
He doesn't use his pinky until 2:03.

Super late to this, but...hey i think he used his pinky at 0:08

Please allow people to buy the lessons/tabs to the individual songs. I love two of them off this album, but don't need the rest of them.
Guitar lesson!!!! I watch you play that's a lesson.I guess I got what I paid for.
Reminds me of steely Dan
He played on a couple of steely Dan records
Super...
What guitar is this?
+Nitzan Peleg 1968 Gibson Es 335
Gibson ES-335 Larry Carlton model. You can tell by the truss rod cover which says "Mr. 335." I own a 2005 model and I love it! Great guitar!
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!
この人の335は唄ってる!!!!!
Tasty..!

SoCoooooooooooool
チューニング甘くない?😢
