“Not all addictions are rooted in abuse or trauma, but I do believe they can all be traced to painful experience. A hurt is at the centre of all addictive behaviours. It is present in the gambler, the Internet addict, the compulsive shopper and the workaholic. The wound may not be as deep and the ache not as excruciating, and it may even be entirely hidden-but it’s there. As we’ll see, the effects of early stress or adverse experiences directly shape both the psychology and the neurobiology of addiction in the brain.”

    Sometimes our body just knows…
In my last relationship, I fought for months with a terrible feeling of anxiety. Deep know I knew breaking up was the right thing to do, but this was a very dear and important person to me. It took me everything I had to finally accept I had to let go. Supressing those feelings of doubt was making me sick, and I knew it.
I thank myself for having listened. It was the right thing to do.

Exact same here, if you could see the girl I was was dating you would say how could you walk away from a 10/10 beautiful girl who was kind and caring.....and I'll answer......something inside of me seen sometimes my eyes or ears didn't pick up on.
My gut was telling me to get out of it, after a few weeks I actually felt myself becoming sick and my mind was in overdrive trying to figure out why, I ended that relationship after two months of seeing this girl and now I have peace, I miss her and wish I could have made it work but something inside of me knew something I'll never know.....maybe I saved myself from a massive disaster I'll never knew I just have to be st peace that I listen to my gut and I can only hope good things will come to me for doing so.
She has moved on, and I'm happy for her, she got the best possible out come.

It must be noted, the way the narrator describes meditation as controlling the breath is incorrect. Do not do that, there could be some fairly serious consequences to "controlling your breath". The way Gabor Mate describes it as observing your breath and being aware are correct. Huge difference between controlling and observing

Yes, as a means to self-preserve I was very, very nice to my father. At sixteen I had my first manic episode and at twenty I was diagnosed as bi polar. Bi polar is largely repressed rage, unexpressed emotions that have been contained. The subconscious mind can only take so much before it fragments into the conscious mind resulting in psychosis. Psychosis is a cry for help, it is the bodies means by which to potentially heal. If we can become conscious of our painful memories, access them we can heal. Unfortunately Western medicine teaches us that the body is not wise, that it is not resilient. That it needs medication, which, can ultimately kill you, in order to sustain itself. I became deeply curious about my psychotic episodes, piecing together the fragments of delusion and despair, sadness and rage that wanted to make itself known. Aside from witnessing I used other means by which to heal including EMDR. Now, at 41 I am off of all my medication.

Not everybody who is exposed to the cold virus, ends up with a cold. Some people can fight it off. Maybe stress and negative emotions affect the immune system. Maybe there is an emotional component to the disease that hasn't been addressed properly.

This is so interesting! "niceness" that is genuine and healthy - which is not the result of early childhood trauma - always come with having healthy boundaries and the capacity to say no🫶 Niceness that comes from self-repression is very likely to lead to some kind of physical illness. If you don't say no, your body will!
