- I finally got this mod done to my Lectric XP. I had the parts for a while but wasn't sure about doing the mod because the bike's riding characteristics may change for the worse. Watch the video to find out if the mod was worth it for me and if it may work for you. Make sure you LIKE, COMMENT and SUBSCRIBE!

I appreciate you going thru the trouble to do this change out, and record it. I'm already 90% convinced this is not the path I want to take. Now, about 95%. 8• >
Lol. Yeah man. It's not for everyone for sure but I figured it would make good content. Now I'm not so sure. Lol. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Strill, you were saying that it made the bars not as solid, so if you are able to find a quill extender and it made it solid would you keep it or switch back? I like the looks too.
@@Kcrunchymunch chances are I'm going to leave it the way it is just because it's such a headache to change it back. Lol. My battery is going flat. I need a new 1. I haven't ridden much lately because it dosen't last that long any more.
Thank you for your efforts bro. I'm tall and have considered doing this with highrise bars. I'll keep it the same to save my back.
Check my later videos in my XP play list. I put on ape hangers and I love them.
Nice.. I changed mines as well. I found an extended quill and used that instead of the regular threaded quill. Much better handling!!
Can you attach a link of what you used? Thanks for the comment!
What type of Quill do I use??

I recognize those Mo City Streets! Just got a lite.. great video! Thanks
Lol. Ah man. Enjoy! Got to get a turtle neck stem now from @DavidBrandNew to put on some BMX bars.
@@StrillLife that is the plan!
@@RSherm25 I put ape hangers on mine if you check my later videos. For me they are the best compromise between the original stem and BMX bars... Not to mention my aging back.
Yeah, I ordered up the bundle from DavidBrandNew for my 3.0. I'll probably end up getting it for my 2.0 too. I really like the fold up feature he's got as I take my bike folded up in my trailer. Can't wait for it to get here now!
Yeah their new bikes like per cool. I wouldn't mind checking them out myself.
@@StrillLife Yeah, I got the 2.0 but then they came out with the 3.0 with the passenger package and I can take my wife on the back with me. Her balance was getting bad for biking but she can hang on just fine and now she gets to go with! May end up with the Lectric trike for her, she's thinking about it. Nice job on your front yard landscaping. That's a very good example of how you can make a small space look lush and inviting.
@@Cyfi71 ah man... I'm sure my neighbors wish I'd do more with my landscaping. I just try to keep my yard cut. 🤣 You must be admiring the neighbor's yard. Thanks though.
I think if you could extended more up the setup would work and would feel much better. I'm about to change my handlebar on the Eahora Juliet 2 for a 2 piece bmx handlebar just so i can add more stuff over the stock one. I'm 6.1" so i get what you're saying.

Great video.. Colours looked great and the bike mod looked really nice in the end ✔
Thanks HTG! It looks cool but it's a torture device now. Lol. I kid but it's more of a chore to ride now. Which is cool since I'm trying to burn calories. Anyway, thanks for checking in as always.
I agree that even though folding handle bars are convenient they do look dorky.
Yes. Lol. The bike is pretty bad ass besides the bean stalk stem. But it is comfortable besides the bars being kind of narrow. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I was a huge bmxer until I was in my mid 20s, just bought a fat tire e bike , I'd definitely like to add bmx bars, but at my age, it may be a bit uncomfortable bent over the whole ride, I assume u can raise them and pull them fwd a bit? They look great
Check out @DavidBrandNew he sells a foldable BMX stem for fat tire bikes. It raises the bars to a height comparable to the factory bars and I believe they are adjustable too in height. But yeah like I have them isn't optimal. I went with ape hangers later if you check out my later XP videos. This was before Dave had invited his Turtle Neck Stem.
@StrillLife I will check out that vid. Thank you very much
Yeah he has really good content and Ebike reviews. Tell him I sent you. ua-cam.com/video/v0RY2Ipcdbk/v-deo.html
Wish i watched before buying mine now still give it go
Which model do you have?
I love the b roll montage at the beginning! Looks like a you had "fun" doing that mod! I always break stuff when i do that sort of thing, I can make a 10 minute job and turn it into an 8 hour foul language seminar. "...so i can be more erect when I ride, which I like" -strill life (best quote)
LOL. Yes. There was a whole other neck and stem setup I bought and didn't work that I didn't even show. I was so disgusted that I didn't record that part of the process. So that "3 weeks later" segue was quite accurate. This vlog almost didn't get made.
Thanks for the montage comment. For longer videos, I notice it helps to give a teaser of the highlights to keep people watching or at least give them highlights to skip to if they don't want to watch the whole video. With no preface, my watch time can drop quickly when I'm just yapping on about the minutia whatever I'm talking about. As always, thanks for the support.
Two tips. 1. Blow air from a air compressor between grip and handle bar to losen grip of hand grips from the old handle bar while pulling them off. 2. Put display in a baggy to keep it from getting scratched after getting it off old handle bar and maybe a twist tie to keep it in there or tie the handles of a shopping bag together.
Thanks for the tips! I'll try these next time I need to change things out.
Long time no see STRILL! Right on for walking us through the process and glad you got to rock the stock bars a bit before switching over.
Let us know how it's going bro! Also I didn't know you could shoot down ya gears and hub with water?? I figured the battery area would be bad to wet, but down on the hub? Solider!
Lol. I'm not sure that was a good idea or not with the water. But I hadn't cleaned my bike at all to that point. I figured spraying a little water on it wouldn't be like submerging it in water. For the most part the hub should be weather sealed to some degree. Also I didn't run the bike for quite some time after washing it. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@ellestar2306 thank you! I appreciate that... I try to keep it Strill. Lol. Good or bad... it is what it is.
I think it was davidbrandnew on you-tube that modified the old stem for a bmx handlebar, so it would be taller and still fold down.
Yep that is correct.
Get some black beach cruiser handlebars. You can lean back and it's amazing, like riding a Harley. I'm 6'4" 215lbs and the original handlebars are terrible! Side note: That phone holder will drop your phone from a big bump at high speeds. I have that phone holder and crashed because of it. My phone fell out during a 20mph turn and slid on the ground under my back tire as I was braking which caused my back tire to slide out from under me. Super unlucky but still. Get a holder that use's thick rubber bands to hold your phone, haven't had any issues with those.
Yeah yeah. I got some ape hangers on the bike now if you checked out my later videos. Love them but unfortunately my bike is out of commission at the moment because I tried to repair my brake cable and lost a plastic washer in the break assembly. I'll get it fixed soon since it's getting cool enough to ride again now. I didn't care when it was hot as hell this summer.
I was thinking of getting Bars, so I could pitch them back to relieve hand numbness. Very timely for me thanks!
Glad this was useful for you. This mod definitely puts more stress on your hands because it shifts more weight to them. Which also depends on the seat height and how tall you are. The taller the more pressure on your hands.
@@StrillLife I am not tall, but trying to find balance between proper leg extension "protect knees" and handlebar height "numb hands". I was thinking that wider taller bar might help.
@@DBrownCo these bars and definitely wider but not taller. Now had I tried to mount them to the original stem then it would be taller.
If u decidd to do the suspension pls show exactly how u install the threadless headset on the new suspension forks. All the videos on youtube as of now always rush or skip that part and never go indepth on that portion
Oscar, if I take on that task I'll definitely make a video about it. I agree with you. The best video that I've seen so far is by a channel called "Almost Awesome" but it kind of rushes through that part of the process. The cash outlay for the fork and the process has me hesitant to take the leap. If things turn around I may do the mod before next spring. I'm in no rush at the moment.

Great video! I ordered mine last week but do you know how long it takes to arrive?
That I can not tell you. It usually depends on if they have a supply in the US on hand or if they are on preorder and have to arrive from China or where ever they are sourcing the bike. I was in 1 of the 1st preorder batches so I had to wait like 4 or 5 months. The demand for these bikes has been so high that I can't call it. I saw that but it dosen't seem like a secure option. I could be wrong. Thanks for watching.
I agree this is not for everyone..i was thinking about trying this mod but I'll do the measurements first like you did..if it's more than what I'm working with at the moment as far as height I'll pass..the height of my handlebar is perfect anything higher and wider would be uncomfortable for me..
Check out David Brand New's Turtle Neck Stem. We were done these mods around the same time and he made an invention to make BMX bars fold. It keeps them at the perfect height too. Thanks for watching.
@@StrillLife yeah I saw his video but the problem for me is I need to know what's the length of the turtle neck...the turtle neck + bmx handlebar can't be no higher than what I have setup now.. I'll shoot them a email and see if I could get measurements and that would give me an idea if it would work for me or not..
@@trini_boi2414 I believe his latest version is adjustable. It goes to the standard height and lower. Not sure about higher. I could be wrong but it's adjustable I'm sure.
@@StrillLife ok cool I'll give it a try and thanks..👍🏽
Well that was an eye opener...just nixed my plans for the same.

Any pics of the turtleneck stem with the handlebars that came with the bike?
I don't have a turtle neck stem unfortunately. I didn't re-use the factory bars. I really didn't like them at all.
Many thanks, it was on my mind, and now I am going to wait see, if you find a way that works, I want it, but I want a better experience!
Yeah I'm just riding with it as is for now. It's not terrible but not ideal. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
my xp step through arrives (supposedly) tomorrow after some delays. this might actually work for me. i noticed you're a big guy from some of the video near the beginning. i'm only 5'8", and have a short inseam, and have been riding sport tourers (motorcycles) my whole adult life. bmw r series actually. we kind of like that forward leaning riding position. this might work for a smaller guy like me. i appreciate your detail though.
Yeah you'll probably like it. 1 thing I'll say is you'll really notice how uncomfortable the seat is with the new bars. I need to update that next. But everything else you'll probably like from that position. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
@@StrillLife well, i might have lucked out there: there was a shipping snafu or something, so when i complained they threw in the black friday special, so supposedly (get it today) i'll have the pogo giant seat combo and panniers. guess we'll see.
@@skip123davis oh yeah. That's nice. I did see that promotion. They have a lot of extras that weren't available when I ordered mine. I need to do an update video. Haven't been riding as much lately but I have some footage in the can that I haven't uploaded yet.
Did you consider dirt bike handlebars instead of BMX? If so, why did you go with BMX over the dirt bike handlebars? I was thinking maybe dirt bike bars so I could have more space to mount accessories on the bar....but I haven't been able to find anyone that has used dirt bike bars yet so I'm wondering if there is a reason why people don't go that route. Great video, super helpful!
Do you mean like a motorcycle dirt bike? If so, I didn't think about that. Since the bike looks like an oversized BMX bike that's why I decided to go that direction.
At this point, I don't have the funds or desire to go a different direction with the handle bar mod. If anything I'll probably put a suspension fork on the front with the bmx bars and that will give me the front end rise that I'm looking for.
@@StrillLife yeah it does look really good as is.

@@StrillLife I feel you, I am too working on a brand on here starting the first of the year. It's been quite a journey up to this point getting the right software, hardware, camera's and all those things. Then learning how to put it all together takes lots of time. So I know you have lots of time into this. Just keep being you and you will do fine.
@@lectrictraveler thanks so much for those words of encouragement. It's not easy building a following on this platform but nothing in life ever is, right? LOL At least that's the case from my experience. I've been doing video production for close to 20 years as hobby and semi-professionally. It's a rough hustle but I love storytelling and video production. So I've kept at it while taking hiatuses here and there along the way for sanity's sake. You'll figure it out. Just keep it fun and don't let it become a chore or job... that's what sucks all the joy out of it.
@@lectrictraveler Also don't get bogged down with thinking you have to have certain gear to get started. A phone and basic software can get you started. I love my gear but a lot of times I use it as an excuse not to create when I've got all kinds of cameras laying around. We trick ourselves into thinking we always need that new gadget to get our story across when it's usually just a cop-out for inaction.
I’ll prolly skip that modification.
LOL. Scott, I don't blame you. What I do for content. I wasn't sure about going through with the mod but I was like at least it will make for good content. But now I'm not so sure a bad mod makes for good content. Like I said, if my legs weren't so long this mod might have been worth it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Can I just take the stem off to lower the handle bar height and put a new shorter stem on but keep stock handlebar
That should work as long as what ever neck you put on the bike fits your handle bars.
Kool thanks for the info
@@JujuGemStar no problem. Just know the bars my be very low depending on what stem you use. I don't think a conventional stem on any sort will keep you from killing your bike since where the stem is installed is so low to the ground. Why didn’t you put the bars in the normal lectric neck
They won't attach to them. Besides that neck was horrible and what I was trying to get away from. The Turtle Neck stem wasn't around when I was making these videos or I would have gotten that instead.

How tall are you, im trying to get an idea of how easy it was for you to reach the original bars ( it looked easy enough ) when seated, thanks

what size allen key did you use to remove the hex nut? in the process of modifying my bike.
I'm not even sure any more this was done time ago. I'll see if I can find it and see.
When you removed the original stem by removing the entire hex bolt, did it have a wedge nut like the one that cracked while you tightened it? Wondering if it uses that system or a threaded insert. I'm deciding to mod to a suspension fork also but maybe keep the original folding handlebars by taking the new suspension fork to a machine shop to have threads cut on the top.
Yes there was a wedge bolt on the original bars. And I'm embarrassed to say that is what might caused the catastrophic failure of the 1st mod I tried because it was still in the frame. I decided to omit that in my video. Lol.

I’m trying to change mines but I stripped that hex screw really bad I try so many methods but nothing working
That sucks. Try at your own risk but you may have drill or Dremal the head of the bolt off to free the handle bars. Then if you tap the bolt it should drop through the tube... in theory.
Even after I loosened the bolt completely my bars stuck to the bike just due to the seal from the pressure that was previously on it. I had to bang it a little for it to come free. Good luck and keep me posted if you keep trying to swop it out.
@@StrillLife I’m going to keep trying but I’m losing hope . Almost try everything and nothing works it’s really stripped bad no threat . Seem like I’m the only one with that issue I check the FB group page some try to help but I get same results

Nice bike...What is the weight of bmx handlebar?
I can't remember. Check the link in the description. I bought them from UA-cam. It should be on there.
I Just started ebiking this August. Im doing something very similar to my 2nd bike a Aostirmotor A20 following another youtubers video DavidBrandNew. I managed to get a suspension fork from FB market place for $60 and I bought some bmx style handel bars. Unfortunately I have issues with both. My brake screws are mounted at a different angle then on the new fork and the handle bars are slightly to skinny for the stock handlebar mount. Im trying to keep the height and fold ability in the handlebars so I ordered some shims. And for the front brake Ill just take to a bike shop.
Yeah that's a lot of shimming because the size difference is considerable. I don't know what your stock stem looks like but it had to go on my bike. Those giraffe stems look ridiculous and don't inspire confidence but good luck. Maybe your stem isn't as long.
@@StrillLife the frame for my bike is lower than yours but the folding bar I think is a few inches shorter than the XP. So I bought a bmx style bar with a 9inch raise. The handlebar clamp is as low as it can go and the bmx bar sits right at chest height.
Nice. Hopefully I'll be able to see the end result
@@StrillLife Yea I post a video in a few days once I get it together. but until then I changed my profile to the stock pics of my rides
@@rlanesports cool! Hit me back here when you've made your upload so I can check it out.
Just leave the stock stem and get a 5" rise wider bmx bar to look less "goofy". You are not going to get the new bmx setup to work with the high seat.
Wrap your bike in flat black
In my next video or 2 after this 1 I moved to some 13.5" ape hangers. They did the trick. Almost wish I went for the 20" hangers. But yeah bike is it's most comfortable now so far.
@@StrillLife And Ape hangers don't look "goofy"?
@@vintagemxer9165 in my opinion... naw not compared to the stock bars. I get way more "cool bike!" when I'm riding now instead of kids pointing and laughing. But you know beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You may not agree and that's your prerogative. That's what's great about this bike you can make your own pretty easily thru customization.
Can you fold it with the BMX handbars?
Never tried it. I've moved on to 13.5" ape hanger bars. I'll be doing a folding video with them once we get power back in TX and warmer weather. Stay tuned.

This may be an idea to make this better for teenagers. I think the original stem and bars are probably too tall for smaller people. I haven't really found an affordable kids ebike.

I guess if you got rid of the rack in the rear you could put some kind of bench seat on the bike like Super 73. Hmmmm 🤔 it may be possible. A banana seat off a kids bike might not be the move though. Lol
@@minarchisttrucker2775 I don't know. Just did a Google search. It might work. You have to consider the rear tire is wider than most sissy bars come to mount on the rear. Also how much is the weight rate for? I'm 220+. I'm not sure those things are made for someone of my weight.
@@minarchisttrucker2775 I bought some cheap ape hangers. Lol. Let's see how they look and perform. If they are goofy looking or flimsy they are going right back to Amazon. Stay tuned for the video update...
yeah I'd rather have the more comfortable ride. I hate leaning over like that. I would like to see the suspension in there though. by the way congrats on 700 man!!
Appreciate that Brian. The things I do for content. Lol. Been ridin round with my knees in my chest last few days. It's uncomfortable but it works my legs and back differently. I rode on 0 PAS for a large portion of my ride today. I'll probably put the old bars back on if I don't order the suspension fork in the next few months.
@@StrillLife yeah we do some crazy things for content man. Redoing your bike is pretty big. I'm sure it took a while to get it all set up properly
@@BrianEngdoinghisTheng yeah man... nothing comes easy around these parts. lol
Are you thinking about getting the front suspension that might help too
I thought about it but I kind of lost interest in upgrading my bike and traveling more. But now that the weather is getting nice and I could use the exercise I might make that mod. I still need to put on a new back tire. Lol. I just don't have much space to work on the bike. So I put it off.
I like The ape hanger look My bike is similar to yours I have an ecotricI think I’m going to do the same the suspension fork in the suspension seat awesome but I’m going to wiring an extra battery for reserve an extra distance the way gas prices are going up the car is not the way
@@darylogle6696 yeah that's a great idea. I was thinking about doing the same thing once upon a time. Kinda lost my momentum. I just ride that thing like a tank. I don't maintain it like I should. It's been mostly in chilling in my garage for the winter but I'm about to get back to riding it more frequently.
I want to make slick tires I wonder if they’ll be dangerous in the rain
@@darylogle6696 hell yes they are dangerous. They make road tires with channeled treads non knobby. But just a smooth tire like i pretty much have on back is dangerous. Any mud, sand or wet leaves on the concrete or side walk becomes extra slick. No big deal going on a straight line most times but leaning into turn it can slide right from under you quick if you have enough inertia. Also peddling in muddy terrain w slick tires can make PAS make you spin out and sling shot you out of control or send the rest into a fish tail. So I wouldn't ride on bald tires on purpose. I'm doing it cus I'm too lazy to put a new tiring in the back. I definitely don't ride after it rains now.
Kind of curious as to why you didn’t put the BMX bars on the pre-existing stem?
That stem was way too long and the hardware doesn't directly match up.
Good to know, thanks
@@leerfarmer you are welcome.
Zooted Fam! Just Subbed!!
Appreciate that! Lets build!
Have you reverted back yet?
Nope. Still rolling with the BMX bars.
@@StrillLife Maybe swapping to bigger/taller bmx bars could get you a bit more comfort. I am loving the 9.5" bmx bars on my Zooz ebike. My Lectric stepthru is supposed to arrive in late November.
@@wesflack992 maybe... i really don't have the funds to invest in the bike right now. Just going to use it as is for now.
How tall are you man this bike looks tiny
Lol. I'm 6'2". It's like an oversized bmx. I had to change the bars out again to 13.5" ape hangers. It's a much more comfortable bike now. You should check out David BrandNew. He's about 6'4" and he rides and XP too. Along with a bunch of other ebikes he's bought or made.
Looks hot
Thanks man... got the ape hangers on it now. It doesn't look as cool but it's way more comfortable.
New sub !!
AYYYEEEE!!!
wrong stem yoke diameter. Just like seat posts they come in many sizes.
True. Lectric told me it was a 1 inch diameter so that's what I ordered. Maybe I misunderstood or ask for the wrong thing. I'm sure it would feel more secure if i didn't have those extension rings too.
Can't you just use the handlebars without the gooseneck
No. They won't fit on the original stem. It's a different set up. The mountain bike style bars have a bigger circumference than my new bars.
❤️🧡💛💚💙 DAAANNGGGG…… ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾 ++++ 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
That's the thing to me the original one looks better..I thought about doing the bmx thing but feels too much like a teenager..
Do you mean the original XP or the original handle bars? In my opinion looking like a teen is better than looking like a dork. Lol. I eventually settled for ape hangers which imo give the bike comfort and some style w/o looking too young. You can see those videos later in my XP play list. I’ve got the most compliments on the bike in that form.
@@StrillLife yes I'm watching your ape hanger one now..I don't have a lectric..I have a vincfer vx3..similar bike but way faster..I changed the handle bars to riser...subscribe to my channel I have it there..also I just installed a 1500 watt motor...
@@MyDam18 nice! I'll check it out
16:42 😂
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.
tall people problems
Lol. Yeah the bike frame is low. Wish the Turtle Neck stem was around back then. I think David Brand New and I were experimenting with putting BMX bars on ebikes at the same time. He just took to the next level for everyone's benefit.
Looks like a bmx bike
That was the idea. I didn't strip the fenders or rack which some of done and it looks really cool. But there is always puddles around here and the rack and bags come in handy when it gets colder. Anyway yeah that's the idea.
Yea man you definitely need some forks ! This is my ride with all my Mods ua-cam.com/video/DBXhHwSUBJk/v-deo.html
Yeah, when I get it in the budget I'll have to make that upgrade.
Get a 10 inch BMX handlebar. That works perfect.
Dope!
