Followed these instructions from start to finish and swapped out my handlebars last night. I'm a 61 y.o. disabled woman that knows how to use tools. LOL I have a set of PARK multi bike tools and used them to do the entire project. I even used my "potbelly" compressor with the nozzle to get the grips off. Worked like a charm!!!

Just did this for my wife's XP2.0 and she's all smiles! She says it takes the pressure off her hands which were stretching to reach the brakes and shifter with her small hands and minor arthritis in the thumbs. She feels it is a more relaxed position in general and since she is mostly street riding rather than trail, she appreciates the more upright position. Thanks Jeremiah for the tip!

Can you still remove the handlebars for travel? I can't take mine out anymore, though there should have been plenty of cable. Shop put them on, and I wonder what went wrong and if I can fix it. Can't get it in the car now!

Try folding the stem down some then try removing them, it will give you more slack in the wiring.

@@JeremiahMcintosh Ah! Discovered shop had removed cable covers and bunched up all the slack under the cage the bike sits on while folded. I pulled slack back up to top, replaced cable cover and folded stem some and was able to get the top stem out! Thank you. Now I should be able to get it through the back seat car door!

Thanks, game changer. I am a 59 year old female. Those new handlebars should come standard. Because of you I was able to install them myself.

You can buy grip glue but I prefer hair spray! Just spray it in each grip and that's it. It's a lube when putting on the grips and sticks them tight when dry. I'd let them rest over night to let the hair spray dry. Almost no residue when the grips are removed. I always use "ultra hold" for this purpose. I have put on 10's of thousands of grips using this method and it always works.

Awesome tip! Dang that’s a lot of handgrips!

@@JeremiahMcintosh yup, I was making a product that had handgrips. They were 25" long and even had to slide over two 90 degree bends. I compared with grip glue and the hairspray worked best.

TIP: use hair spray to put the new grips on! IT's very slippery until it drys, then it is sticky and holds them on well.

I love the stock grips... You don't need to hold the handlebars tight if your on a smooth road. You actually turn a bike by pushing on the the grips over 2mph.. push the right grip to turn right. I know this from my motorcycle racing days. Its all about pushing and pressure to turn at riding speeds.

  • @999pudge
    @999pudge 3 роки тому +4

Just like your wife i wanted the grips a little closer. I considered getting a replacement handlebar. Then i took a good look at the stock handlebars and noticed they had a bend that made them about 1 1/2" higher. at the grips than at the stem. I simply rotated the handlebar 90 degrees then loosened set screws and adjusted position of brake handles, throttle, display, and power control button. In just a couple minutes I had my grips 1 1/2" closer, and more comfortable. The loss of height was easily fixed with the adjustable head tube latch. The hardest part of the job was rotating the hand grips which were really tight on the handlebars, but that was accomplished with the help of channel lock pliers.

Watched your video and didn't have any problems changing out the handlebars. I did feel the throttle cable was a little tighter than before because of the extra reach so I changed how they were wrapped up to give a little slack in the wire. Appreciate you videos.

Thanks for mentioning the ring near the throttle. Sometime after replacing my handlebars for some a little wider about two months ago , I found a ring on the garage floor and couldn't figure out where it came from. I hung on to it, knowing I'd figure it out sooner or later, and today I did!

I'm so glad to see a woman's perspective of these Lectric bikes. And thank you , thank you, thank you for showing the new handle bars and the installation!! I'm 5"1' . How tall is your wife? I bought a commuter ebike and it's way to big. The seat has to be all the way down so I'm looking to sell it and get a Lectric xp 2.0 or Doheny step through. Good to know about changing the handle bars because I have a shoulder issue and with the longer reach with the bike I have, it limits my time on the bike. GREAT VIDEO!!!

Excellent video! My wife has mentioned that she wishes the handlebars were a bit closer as well, so this is an upgrade that we will look at as well.
I had to adjust my handlebar, as the hand grips were pointed downwards. This put everything that was mounted on the bars out of position. When adjusting the shifter, it took an impact driver to loosen up the Phillips head screw. I’m sure others will run into the same problem.
Thanks for the great demonstration and tips!

Good job!! here are a couple more tips for you. If you blow air on the edge of the grips on the bars that will move them also. but for most people we do not have a compressor so rubbing alcohol works great. I got mine off with a small screw driver to lift up the edge and squirting in rubbing alcohol . remove the screw driver and 2 twists per side and the were off, quicker then you did using air. but air on the other side of the grip would have been quicker for you too. That is how they remove open end grips since there is a hole on the end. When I did mine I put the grips on before I tightened the brakes and shifter. Made it much easier to get the spacing and my make sure the throttle still moved freely.

It’ll probably be awhile before I ride again, unless I use throttle only, because I will have the stimulator implant on December 22nd. THE ROCK BROS bag is pretty cool very expensive there's also a disadvantage to it.
You could buy a saddle bag kind of like the one your wife's bike has. Mine is a 30L one..
The problem with the Rock Bro is that you're stuck with the top piece that is there all the time if you want to just use the saddlebags.
For instance I have 2 in straps that are 48 in long that I could put a very big crate The length of the rack on top of the saddlebags like your wife has. That holds a hell of a lot more stuff than the Rock Brothers top. Especially if your grocery shopping or something.
And with those straps you can also put other things if you don't want to put the crate on top with the saddlebags.
For instance I use those straps to strap down a 5 lb JBL XTREME 2 BOOMBOX!! Holds it perfectly.
And then I came to some of the situations like strapping a basketball to the top with those two straps. Actually strapping two basketballs.
If you use the Rock Bro bag you can't do any of those things I just mentioned. And you potentially lose some room If you're going to put other things like a crate on top that has more storage.
And it's a lot cheaper to use the straps and the saddlebags Then it is to buy that almost $100 rock bro bag.
I think my saddlebag the 30 l one only cost me $25 on Amazon Day.. It has been absolutely perfect with those straps to carry almost anything I want..
    ;)

Hoping this switch will do the trick in making me comfortable on my new black ST 2.0. I haven’t been on a bike in many years and didn’t do well on my first attempt ( no motor- just wanted to try the bike first and down I went). I was so uncomfortable and a bit afraid but I really want to learn to use this bike and get out more at 70. I waited 12 weeks for it so I’m not giving up easily! I love your videos!

Glide down a slightly down sloping longish driveway while steering gently towards the right onto the roadway at end of driveway; do this repeatedly a dozen or so times till one gets the hang of it and is comfortable gliding down the driveway; and then simply when one is confident enough the simply gradually add in some pedaling to the routine gliding down the driveway onto the roadway exercise till one is fully confident in controlled pedaling of one's Lectric XP bike; do not rush the process and simply proceed at one's own self actualized pace and progress; soon you will be Lectric XP biking without any problems whatsoever; also one may want to upgrade one's flat style handlebar that comes stock with one's Lectric XP bike with one that is also a flat style handlebar but who is about five inches longer across in the width dimension; this will add even more control and stability to one's overall biking experience; simply have the local bike shop handle the actual needed details of doing the upgrade work for the best positive outcome so they can also recommend and work with you to make all the major and/or minor optimal anticipated or needed adjustments to the upgraded handlebar as well as the remounting of all the original handlebar mounted components back onto the new upgraded handlebar also as well; that way you can more optimally and readily start enjoying your new Lectric XP new found safe highly enjoyable biking experience; the local bike shop that I use locally is very pro bicycle customer modification friendly and so should the one that you select to use also as well; keep searching for the local bike shop who will work with you in terms of being bicycle customer modification friendly as they are likely to be needed for any potential future bicycle modification project upgrade work that you may have in mind to add even more overall optimal enjoyment of your new Lectric XP bicycle.

I’d like to get the same mirrors as you installed, but my grips seem to cover a handlebar that terminates with a plastic plug/cap. That plug is covered by the contoured grip with just a small hole in the rubber to see the plug capping the tube. It does not appear easy to remove the grips without damaging them. Would a solution be drilling out the small hole in the end of the rubber contoured grip to open up the path past the plastic plug/cap to the hollow tube of the handlebar?

Do you think steering is a lot better and better steering control with these new handlebars.?

The Sunlite handlebar I referenced below may not be a good solution as a replacement bar because the handlebar end angle is almost 90 degrees (parallel to the bike). This may make it uncomfortable for using the twist throttle. I found another steel handlebar with a black finish called the The Surly Open Bar handlebar that has a 25.4 mm clamping diameter, either a 40 mm or 0 mm rise and 666 mm width. The angle of the handlebar end is 53 degrees so you can rest your palm on the bar and operate the twist throttle more comfortably. Since the width of the stock handlebar on the Lectric 2.0 is 635 mm (25 in), I am hoping that this handlebar will not require brake cables, etc. to be changed out on both the XP 1.0 and 2.0 models and will produce a very comfortable riding position. The cost of the Surly handlebar is $60.00.

if you don't care that much about folding, can you get more swept-back handlebars. My wife has arthritis in one wrist and I don't want her putting too much pressure on it. Figure more swept back bars would help.
