    MODERN BUILDS
    Hi, My name is Mike Montgomery and I'm a MAKER; a designer, builder, and full-time content creator. Accessibility is my focus with Modern Builds, not simply accessibility of designs, but accessibility in materials, information, and projects themselves. I've focused on creating furniture and DIY projects that are simple enough that any beginner maker can accomplish, yet interesting enough that any expert might be inspired. Building and making is becoming less and less of an exclusive hobby and profession. My goal is to reduce that separation even further.

    Didn't think I would like the finished product but was like dang, that came out sick. Love it! I love how accessible your designs have stayed over the years, design language has definitely stayed, but you haven't gone way off into being inaccessible with cnc and all that. Keep up the great work Mike!

      Matching the shape for a skirt could be done by using kerfed plywood. A little time consuming but reasonably easy

      Weird question, but I feel like you put in new saw blades every time you use the jigsaw. Any recommendations for what to do with old blades? Keep around for future "non-superpro" projects or throw away?

    You can draw an ellipse with a piece of string and two nails.

    A true ellipse/oval could have been drawn on the plywood with two nails, a loop of string, and a pencil. (EDIT: and the center of the circle you wanted would be the midpoint between your nails. Draw on the "bad" side of the wood, so the nail holes end up facing the floor)

    Maybe as an apron you could add a strip of plywood with a lot of grooves cut into in but leave the outer ply intact. That way it'll bend easily. Maybe I saw this technique here on your channel, come to think of it 🤔

    • @ModernBuilds
      @ModernBuilds  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, that could be cool... Cut a smaller oval to attach to bottom of frame and bend kerf cut ply around it?!!?

    • @c.a.g.1977
      @c.a.g.1977 Рік тому

      @@ModernBuilds That would work.
      Or just stack a few layers of those ovals, but that would mean more sheets of plywood. Don't know if you could get more out of one sheet if you broke the oval into segments of 1/4oval or 1/3oval?

    I love that you tapped it so it doesn't fall then cut thru the tape lol. I love it man. Table looks brilliant. Love the exposed frame.

    Awesome table! You could use some type of oak veneer to do an apron on the bottom of the table. That way the structure is hidden and it could give a nice contrast with the top plywood and the legs.

    There's a way to find the centre of a circle. Involves drawing two lines inside the circle, finding the mid point on each line and drawing a 90% line from that centre point. The intersection of the two lines is the middle.

    The table looks amazing 🥰😍
    Idea:
    Some " pole " board (check on AD ikea billy makeover with LoneFox) would be a great idea to cover the structure around and it would add a little bit of nice texture to the furniture ✨

Turntable in the middle of a small table where everyone can reach everything..but on the other hand - definitely a muss have to keep all small food particles which will fall down through the hole. as well as all the dust you yousually have in a dessert town where this guy works. And Not to forget - IT SPINS!!!!

    great video and OG modern builds content - the execution leaves me somewhat wanting but again its your table and you did a decent job with an great idea. I would have paint the bottom while as the legs and used better plywood - but I like the turntable - And try to fit a tempered glas plate for added decorations so you can switch between the lazy susan and decoration in the compartment. Hell - flock it so it can be used for dice tosses for boardgames etc.

    I don’t know if this is any better, but when I use a circle jig I usually cut it on a scrap piece of mdf or ply so I can cut all the way through without anything falling out while the router is running

    Nitpickery here: The shape is an ellipse, not ab oval. An oval is shaped like an egg. Oval even means "egg-shaped". At least, you have it correct in the description box. So, the highest office in the USA should really be called the Elliptical Office, but it is just too late in the game to make the change.
    End nitpickery.

    No idea what the point of going through all this “flint stone genius idea” was. Super unnecessary more like it. You could’ve flipped the table upside down, centered each circle on top of each other in the hole cut out and used double sided tape with glue or a combo of CA glue and wood glue as needed. Wouldn’t this have been easier and faster resulting in the exact same end result? Or am I missing something here? Maybe that’s just my simple logical thinking of: work smarter not harder 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @TracksWithDax
      @TracksWithDax Рік тому +1

      the main goal of that was to ensure that the plywood circle was perfectly centered on the turntable. Since the turntable has no marking for the center point, the plywood circle could've been off-center which would make it not have a perfectly even gap when it spins in the table. I would've done something similar
