  • In this video Mike walks through his tablet setup on his 2022 Ski-Doo Mach Z. Instead of using the Garmin Zumo 590 he had run in past seasons, he decided to make a mount on the glovebox extrension for his 8" Samsung Galaxy Tab.

I ran my tablet in a modified, by me, neoprene case on the handlebars this past season. You will have to 100% have a heat source. I also used a rubber band around the usb c cord to keep tension on the cord. Unfortunately the usb is a somewhat fragile charging system for offroad use.
Being able to run different apps to access different maps and data were invaluable in navigating. Especially since we focus on getting off trail.
The biggest downside is viewing the screen in sunlight. I ended up creating a visit of sorts out of duct tape.
As a proof of concept a huge success. I will refine the system for this coming season.

Great Sled videos - watch them all.
This one struck me funny tho.....I'm doing my best to be less 'connected' while away & sledding.
The last thing I want to see is more apps, contacts, playlists, etc.
We all have GPS on our phones & carry paper maps anyway. (when available)
All I need from the sled is fuel guage, temp guage & odometer.
    Keep it up fellas.

Thanks Mattie! We appreciate the support and complete understand your perspective. For us, we love the tech. We enjoy listening to tunes, love having mapping so we always know where we are, how far to get somewhere, gas etc. and even can chat with the wife for anything while moving. Some like it and some prefer to be disconnected. We get it and its not for everyone! Cheers, Mike

I see this opinion around a lot, and I get it to an extent. But as the person who almost always is elected to lead my group... I just want to ride. I don't want to stop at every intersection to look at a trail map, or pull my phone out. I just glance down at my mounted GPS as I'm riding, pick my next turn, and keep riding.
People think that technology takes away from the ride. But realistically, it just allows me to put on more miles in a day with less down time. It's not like we are just staring at the GPS, it is a glance to know where the next intersection could take you, and then that is it.

Interested to see how it does in the cold. May need to add a heating element behind it. Tuned YamaCat guys have used iPad minis. Some needed heat, so not. Also might want to source an anti-glare screen cover for those bright days. Nice job.

I'm going to add a separate comment to a reply I left as well for anyone curious about heating options for a tablet.
Simple solution would be to buy a seat heater pad pack off amazing (the pads themselves not seat heated "covers")
With the pads you'll need to incase them to protect from water damage but the benefit to seat heating pads is the option to control exactly how much heat is going to the pad, therefore not heating the tablet too much in some cases, Most will come with a switch and easy 12v hookup. I think it may be a game changer having a tablet for a dash if we can keep them on in -30° weather !

Hey dude! Thanks for your comment. Sorry I didn't notice your reply. We tried with heating elements in the tablet case and the tablet would still freeze and turn off below -20. After a season of trying different things it just didn't work and wasn't reliable for us so we reverted back to our garmin gps's. Cheers, Jesse

Amazon seat heater for cars. Pads will likely be similar size to the table and maybe find a way to incase in from water damage. Easy 12v source to heat the tablet.

Any updates in the last few weeks?
We tried running an iPhone Plus the same way this week as an easy test and it worked okay. We had it in a case to keep it isolated. It seemed that with the case and running on power it kept it warm enough. But going to a tablet would be a much nicer experience.
Also curious on whether you have tried any other apps for tracking the route while riding. Tried the OFSC mobile app, but that is obviously not designed as a true GPS in the same way. Too many limits with the ability to zoom out but keep you centered in the screen so you can retain situational awareness at a larger scale.
