  • Today we are watching The Running Man (1987) for the first time! The Running Man (1987) stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Richard Dawson, María Conchita Alonso, and Jesse Ventura. Falsely accused of murder, Ben Richards (Schwarzenegger) escapes confinement only to be captured again. His fate isn't behind bars, but rather to be featured on a popular tv show called "The Running Man."
Hosted by Damian Killian (Richard Dawson), "The Running Man" pits convicts against deadly assailants, also known as "stalkers." Can Richards outlast this gruesome game, or will his time "run" out?

Hi! Nice reactions, you made some not so typical choices for your first uploads and I like your choices. You guys are smart too which is always a good thing :)
Peak Arnie is Conan the Barbarian, Predator, T1/T2, Total Recall, and also Commando if you like pure 80's cheese.
Some other random suggestions if you haven't seen them: LA Confidential, Evil Dead I/II/III, The Mist, The Shining, The Thing, Any/All Tarantino films. I could go on but I won't.

The thing is, all the better Arnold movies have been done enough by other reactors. We don't need a 12th reaction to Total Recall, we need a first reaction to Next (Nicholas Cage sleeper) or Guns Akimbo or Source Code or Heathers or Truman Show or any of the other interesting movies that have not had reaction videos made, or maybe had only 1 or 2 crappy ones. I suppose if you had to do a reaction video, I think there are only a handful of Conan the Barbarian reactions, so that's a little better than doing the 100th Terminator reaction. Anyway, I have a long list of movies that I cannot find any reaction videos to, that really would make great reaction videos. It is sad reactors keep choosing movies off the same short list. I found your channel only because you did Running Man which is actually one of those movies rarely, if ever, reacted to. Hmm... Schwarzenegger's Last Action Hero was kind of interesting, too long and dragged a bit, but that would not be a problem for a reaction video and I think it's only been reacted to one time.

@@mymyersfamily excellent point. selfishly, i'm burned out on reactions to Alien, Predator, The Green Mile, The Thing, etc. No shade to anyone reacting to them, i just know what to expect and the reactions have lost their zing for me.
There are two reactions to Midnight Run (1988), one good one 🙂. The type that makes me want to watch it again immediately. They'll add it to the list, right after Jaws, Shawshank Redemption, Aliens, The Exorcist, Saving Private Ryan, and so on and so on... 😑

    "Killian! I'll be back!"
    "Only in a rerun."
What is lost in seeing this now instead of when this came out, is that Richard Dawson (Damon Killian) was the host of Family Feud (1976) that ended only two years before this movie came out. People were taken aback by Dawson's heel turn in this movie as an evil game show host. While Arnold Schwarzenegger was the biggest draw, most people remember this for when Richard Dawson shocked his long time fans.
Fun Fact: Erland van Lidth (Dynamo) was a classically trained Helden baritone opera singer and sings "The Marriage Of Figaro" aria for real. This was also his final movie.

@BigGator5: FunER Fact: Erland van Lidth was also quite good in the very good comedy movie 'Stir Crazy' ( 1980, starring Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. ) van Lidth played the hulking, menacing- acting, mass murderer "Grossberger," who turned out to be not such a bad guy underneath [ he helps the film's heros' characters ( Wilder's and Pryor's characters. ) ] He also sings, beautifully, and a cappella* no less, part of the old song "Down in the Valley."
*a cappella = without musical accompaniment.

Svend, the "I've got to score some steroids" bodyguard, is played by Svend Ole Thorsen. He's a bodybuilder from Denmark and one of Arnolds oldest friends. He is the actor/stuntman who has been in the most Arnold movies. It's mostly small but notable roles! His most well-known role in an Arnold movie is Thorgrim which he played in "Conan The Barbarian".

This flick (and King's novel, of course) *very* predicted reality television (social media too) and the brutality of the audience demanding that their boredom be entertained so that we, the common dregs, can forget our troubles.

@DarkTitan I realized that later after posting this comment, but couldn't remember where I had said this. Thanks for the correction. The Villain is just the first movie I ever saw him in.

How about "Hercules In New York"?, where Arnold's voice is dubbed by another actor.

I was making a comparison of the popularity of Arnold’s films. I’ve watched quite a few and in my personal experience, T1, T2, and Predator seemed to be more of his popular ones. Again, this is just my personal thoughts.

True Lies is only little-known to millennials and gen-Z's. At the time, it was as mainstream as they come. You want little-known Arnold flicks, go with Red Sonja. Though your time would be better spent with something more in the middle, like Twins.

    • @santiago451
      @santiago451 Рік тому

@@zerpblerd5966 I caught Red Sonja on cable in 87 or 88, and even then it was about as obscure as that Barbarians flick with the two twins. People remembered hearing about it, but hardly anyone bothered actually seeing it. For years I tried telling people how the Brigitte Nielsen Conan ripoff was actually excellent, only to be met with laughter. But I suppose you lived in that different part of the country, where everyone flocked to go see it.

This was Arnie's follow up to his surprise hit The Terminator. Only this time he has lots of dialogue. I saw it one time in the theater when it came out and haven't cared to see it since. Schwarzenegger's acting and the dialogue in general combined with the cartoonish feel to the production just left a bad taste in my mouth.
However, Im interested in re-visiting this with you and see if my impression of the film was accurate.
(edit) Nope. My first impression was correct. This is nothing but a high budget B-movie poorly crafted.

Contrary to what you and many other people believe, Arnold is NOT a bad actor. He is actually pretty good, skill-wise.
You need to see him act in German, his native language. Very different. This movie was supposed to be "cartoonish" in feel. That's part of the fun.

    • @davestang5454

The book is always "better" than the movie because reading a book is an active-brain experience and watching a movie is a passive-brain experience. Psychologically, when you read a book you are essentially "directing" the story. When you watch a movie, someone else is presenting his or her viewpoint of the story and just taking you along for the ride.
