I went there just last week (hiked to Calloway and MacRae peak) and didn’t even know about the profile trail ….looks like I’m headed back sometime soon ! Great video.
Thanks so much. We are happy to hear that we could let you know about the profile trail. It’s great.because you can access Grandfather in the winter when other access is closed. Check out my birthday hike: ua-cam.com/video/_9CfHsvaQ9c/v-deo.html
WOW! how was the hike with the rain on the rocks? was it slippery? I love your video and would love to hike there this winter, however if it snows, I don't want to think about being up on those rocks, lol. Great video :)
It wasn’t too bad with good boots, but slick nonetheless. We hiked the profile trail in winter to give you a glimpse. Thanks for your comment. ua-cam.com/video/_9CfHsvaQ9c/v-deo.html
Thx for this video. I understand there are 3 sides you can approach from. Is this Profile trail route the one you'd recommend overall? Appreciate you guys;)
The profile trail is one of the toughest uphill climbs in the southeast. ua-cam.com/video/jAKGR9RQcJ8/v-deo.html. If you have all day and want the challenge combined with views at Calloway and McRae, Profile is for you. Starting at Boone Fork parking and taking the Daniel Boone Scout trail is a little easier, but is still lengthy and has fantastic views along the way, especially near Flat Rock. But if want pure addreleline without the long, steep verticals climb, pay to enter the park, see the swinging bridge, and head to the start of Grandfather Trail. You’ll hit the most aggressive ladders and cables on your way to awesome peaks. Try to make it to Calloway if you can. ua-cam.com/video/Ze3LJMQZ7TI/v-deo.html. If you only have appetite for 4-5 miles, this is the one! I hope that helps.
@@criscale3667 thanks for this great feedback. I'm now living in NC after 8 years in Colorado. I'm used to long days so I'll stick with Profile;) Thanks for everything and take care.
Hi, i read that dogs can use the trail but looking at the rock scrambling and ladders, doesn’t look like it’s dog friendly unless they’re small to carry..
Although dogs are allowed, I do not recommend taking them with the rock scramble and ladders. Even with small dogs that can be carried - it is important to have two hands available. For example, there are tall ladders with 10+ rungs where a fall would certainly result in injury. Having two hands available is important. Also, climbing to the top of MacRae peak requires a ladder to cable transition where you want to have two hands available. The rock scramble is another area prone to injury - you want to have two free hands. When you say "carry", I would only recommend a carrying pack or something where you also have two hands free for climbing.
You guys to too modest. I've done Profile to Calloway. What you pulled off in the rain was epic!
