So 5 years after uploading this thing I get a copyright strike for the music in the first 30 seconds, blocking the video in most countries. So unfortunately I had to replace the beginning song with a stock one in the UA-cam editor. The UA-cam editor is really shitty and I could barely cut it smoothly, so sorry about the new rough intro. But at least the video should be available again!
I thought my computer was screwing up at first. Then I saw this. There's no way to fight the strike? That's pretty damn stupid it took FIVE YEARS for someone to file a claim. Seems pretty shady to me.
They did that with a whole bunch of channels this place was once an amazing area to watch your favorite people make content but now the content creators have so many rules to follow its a mes they have to fix this platform make this platform number 1 again like back then
Silent Hill Protagonists when they come to Silent Hill: "I'm almost out of ammo, I need to run away." Travis when he comes to Silent Hill: "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me!"
I agree with all of your points, but I want to point something out about your comment on the sexy nurses having no point in the game because the game has nothing to do with women. It is VERY heavily hinted that Travis sexualized and hates women deep down in Origins, and is caught with a split personality that forged from the abuse by his mother. One of the most common places you enter into the Otherworld is through Bathroom Mirrors, and notice it's always, ALWAYS the women's restroom he enters the Otherworld through. The same goes for a changing room in the theater. Notice how the Butcher has half of his face normalized, and the other half like a monster, and we see him ripping the stomach downward on a nurse disemboweling it (and taking out every part of it related to pregnancy). In the bad ending in Origins, we hear women screaming for mercy as Travis switches to presumingly his other persona. Travis talks about having blackouts, and his mom treats him like a depraved 'bad' person. Hell, even the mirrors and the whole idea behind duality. There's a lot more, but a bad split personality forged in Travis from years of abuse and the death of his father, who ended up murdering women due to an inner hatred for them which stems from his mother singling him out as being 'bad' because he was a boy and she always treated him like he was filthy and evil, and him viewing his mother as what drove his dad to kill himself. The thing is while this is hardly the most shocking twist done in the series history, Origins almost plays this element TOO subtly that most won't notice it. Hell I almost didn't notice it until my second playthrough years later and realizing a lot of the imagery was depicting duality quite strongly, hatred of women, what his mother says and his relationship with his parents, the bad ending, etc. But I thought it was worth mentioning (though the actual sexy nurses from SH2 is just being lazy and wanting to use something iconic, yadda yadda, I agree). On a completely different note, I've been watching through your videos, and I find you have very similar thoughts and do great breakdowns of those thoughts on games that's quite interesting to listen too, and we have some very similar interests. Look forward to watching more videos from you.
+Dr. Zoidberg The nurses in Silent Hill 3 are not the Sexy nurses, they look like the infected nurses in Silent Hill 1, which is reflective of it being part of Alessa's subconscious because she was kept in a hospital bed, burnt alive and unable to move or function on her own for years, Lisa was her primary nurse, but they took on a monstrous identity in her persona and inflicted pain on her, which is why the Nurses in SH1/SH3 wield more typical weapons like guns in SH3. Infliction.
Two main reasons, the first being that mental health is a strong theme in Silent Hill Origins. Travis was checked in for periods of time after the death of his father because he stayed with his hanging corpse for hours, which wasn't "healthy son, you knew it wasn't." The guy on the radio at the start refers to Travis being that one "crazy son of a bitch," and we learn that Travis has had some mental check-ups over the years. His mother also in some records did some messed up visits to hospitals to torture him and drive the evil out of him, both religiously and medically. Travis also went to go check on his mother after she was ultimately locked up for her own mental health and delusions of religion, and while Travis did visit her he hated her and this place. Though the third reason is because nurses are iconic to Silent Hill and the Origins creators wanted to use them, yes.
The problem with Origins is that it's trying to be both 1 and 2 at the same time. 1 was about the Cult. Harry is a simple character given little development. 2 was about James. The cult was irrelevant. 3 was about Heather and how she's intricately tied to the Cult. Origins is about the cult _and_ Travis, despite them not being connected.
I personally believe there was heavy executive influence from Konami to tie the game in with the series lore instead of allowing climax to create their own thing, since there are essentially two very different stories playing out concurrently in this game, one that is definitely more fleshed out than the other. I don’t think whether the cult is involved matters so much. I’ve always just seen the cult as a plot device in order to better elucidate the main conflicts and themes in the series
@@VideoGuy232 Well, it's clear that when Climax was given fewer restraints, they can do something good - Shattered Memories is the best post-quadrilogy Silent Hill game.
RaVen11 it's like finding a hidden gem of a game not normally found or recognize by many people and being proud of finding something you discovered on your own or sharing it with a friend or two. it's mostly the reason I appreciate underrated channels for having less than one million subscribers.
Travis doesn't need your wimpy weapons, he kills demons with his bare hands as a side job on a daily basis. Silent Hill Monsters are not nearly as strong as what he hunts in his off time.
I remember collecting televisions for melee weapons and, with a conga line of monsters following me as I jogged down the street, all I could do was laugh hysterically as I envisioned a man jogging with pants laden with TVs as meandered, unconcerned, with unsightly horrors tagging along. Like, "Hey, man, stop running, Days of Our Lives is on, we gotta see if Stephano is alive again." I just... It was absurd. Utterly ridiculous.
I hated this Silent Hill game, to me this is the worst game not Homecoming. I never even finished this game because the combat was so difficult and controls were clunky. The story wasn't even interesting and didn't fit a psychological horror Silent Hill game
I personally loved this game and found it relentless with the huge maps. It gave me a feeling of constant DREAD, to touch those mirrors and have to master the same place over again, but for me that drew me in. This was the first one of the series that I had played so i looked at it for face value rather than holding it up against the others and comparing. But i guess its about what you want from a game. I personally like expansive maps and eerie music but others like a straight forward story and less travel time. Its deffo a preference thing.
I daresay that this game is love it or hate it game. I love it. It's one of my fave. And I agree with your point too. Huge map always had me constantly asking myself "how many monsters are in this room?". The music is GREAT. The control never bugged me that much. The camera works fine for me. It never really bothers me. The melee thing, well, there are a lot, like a LOT of em. I also often ended up not using them cuz I fistfought everything except bosses. Also, I have to disagree with him cuz travelling back and forth definitely changes things. Unlocking door, finding key in otherworld, etc. It's still there? ._.
Origins did one thing right: stealth. After game boxes that promised stealth mechanics, enemies that could follow your stealth, and other outright lies, in Origins turning off your flashlight and moving slowly meant you could actually creep passed enemies rather than fight them.
"Hey Travis, you can use a whole bunch of shit to defend yourself" Travis: "Nah pal, I can just punch these monsters" "Why not use a literal gun and just shoot the guys?" Travis: "Punch" "But it would-" Travis: *"P U N C H"*
my DUDE, Team Silent did not "leave konami" they go pushed away or fired in a more blunt way. They had been the misfits of Konami and the higher ups did not know what to do with them so they told them to just make a game and they made Silent Hill 1. There must have been some sort of animosity after so many years. Today most of the devs that made amazing games at Konami left and hate Konami (Kojima and his crew)
How can a company treat his best workers so bad? How cant they see that they need to keep talent to make good games? How cant they see the backlash from this?
@@valletas the team wanted to make a video game konami is mostly a pachinko maker now. they "fired" kojima during the mgs game and during PTs development. he formed his own studio took his ideas of pt to make his own game death stranding.
@@azadalamiq To be fair, Kojima was spending more and more money on MGS5 and on things the company didn't find necessary. And the game was late, as well. Konami sucks shit these days, but you can't really ignore Kojima's own ego and bad choices for their falling out.
@@combatofhonor23 It's a little bit of both, it's scary in terms of atmosphere and monster design, and scary on the meaning behind the monsters and the twisted nature of the world and character inhabiting it.
10:04 - 10:06 I know the game's direction + game's music/background score would have made this moment terrifying but, without them, seeing one reflection of Travis going SFLKFMLSKFMLFS on one end while the other reflection of Travis stays stock still is great.
Man, it would have been so much cooler if the story had just ditched the SH1 junk and focused on Travis' character. A trucker with a traumatic past who is possibly a serial killer (or maybe has a split personality that is a serial killer) would have been a really cool premise to play off of in a Silent Hill game.
I think you did an awesome job on this video. You perfectly went through this game and dissected exactly what made it not work, while still talking about a few things it did well. Also a great mix of comedy and getting your point across. I really enjoyed this one.
As my first Silent Hill, origins blew my mind, and then I played SH1 and I was even more amazed by the series. So I dont think it is a game to hate, it's not the best in the series, but in a series full of excellence it is extremely difficult to follow that lead. For a Silent Hill game origins is meh, but for a survival horror I think it's an awesome game...
@@Green-Raccoon777 You can start anywhere. The best ones are the first 4, so if you wanna go for the best ones start there. Origins is a great starting point. Shattered Memories is best played after 1, since its a retelling of SH1's story. Note that I have only played Origins, Shattered Memories and SH1, the latter one being my favorite game in the franchise. Would love to play the other games but don't have the time since I played the other ones while commuting (on PSP and emulated on my phone respectively) and those have no portability whatsoever because you need to either play them on PC or console. If you wanna play the "bad ones" (Downpoor and such) which are the ones Team Silent didn't work on I'd recommend to play them last. They are not bad, but lack the horror and overall feel of the first ones sadly.
@@leroysinclair8499 Absolutely love the first one. It's one of my favorite games of all time. If you like the feel and soundtrack of it you may wanna check out Portishead, which is the band that inspired Akira Yamaoka (the composer in SH1) for the soundtrack. It's my favorite band of all time and it really gives a similar vibe to Silent Hill. Their 3 albums are absolutely amazing, though the two first ones are way better than the third one.
Not to be picky, but you made a mistake in your intro. The original version of the game was going to be made by Climax USA - and it was a horrible RE4 rip off. It then got handed over to the UK team of Climax to make sure the final product was more classic SH in style You got them mixed around is all :)
There was also the oversight of a few things, like how the trauma and abuse regarding Travis' mother trying to kill him with poison gas, his father hanging himself, and the possibility he could be suffering from a split personality (hence the supposed black outs he seems to experience), not to mention the radio chatter in the intro between Travis and a fellow trucker hinting at a rather lonely lifestyle, deprived of any supposed sexual thrills, kind of hint how things like the nurses and the butcher could make more sense. The nurses, because they could easily be just what the image of a model from one of those pin-up magazines (probably something expected of a trucker, that has to travel long distances, with little free time in-between), would look like, being filtered through Silent Hill's otherworld. The butcher on the other hand, may as well be what the image of Pyramid Head would look like, if filtered through a lens of violent tendencies and unrelenting cruelty, which possibly hints at something Travis has desperately been trying to lock away, with the bad ending implying he could've been responsible for murdering several women that reminded him of her mother (which is why the monsters the butcher ends up gutting, seemingly without being provoked or going out of its way to do so, are related to women or sexual intercourse, like the nurse or the "two-back" monster).
And he may also have a split personality disorder and one of them is a serial killer that targets women’s. Which is why the butcher exist as he represents his second personality.
@farenheit041 that's totally NOT origins backstory whatsoever, you might be looking to criticize Homecoming for that matter, it fits way better with the soldier runaround. And yes, you may be right on "Monsters were created because he was suffering, not because he was horny" but his comment made specifically clear that the story is not about hornyness, is about suppressed or repressed sexuality, which is also suffering. Motherhood sexuality as well, pretty Freud shit right there.
@ Sex is for the weak. However, I'm a sexless Chad that represses my barbaric instincts and replaces the need to ejaculate with the need to read books. So, "Every man has a nagging interest in sex." is a false statement, the only nagging interest I have is to seek knowledge and expand my brain the levels not known to the sex fiends.
Not only does he go in the house, he stands up inside instead of crawling and completely ignores the magically moving fire and strange symbols. Plus he chased the girl instead of running away. He continues to investigate and decides to continue risking his life along the way. He also never notifies the police, friends, or family. He is too good for his own good and doesn't seem to know when to run.
Considering the tank controll thingy: In Resident Evil 2 on N64 they had the option of direct controlls as well, but with a screen transition, the character keeps on walking the direction he was going in the screen before as long as you push the 3D stick. If you let it go, it adjusts to the new camera angle in the screen you're on. I found this to be a wonderful solution.
Thank you so much for making these videos Nitro! It's really cool to see more people making a retrospective about this series because it's been through quite a lot. And it's always nice to hear someone's opinion on the series who also happens to be passionate about it. Love the first four games to death and I can't wait to see your next video! =)
Actually, in the Bad Ending, it's hinted that Travis is a serial killer that targets females and in one cutscene, someone tells him he should "meet a nice girl". This symbolizes his sexual deprivations in the same vain of James. I still agree it's a shit game though.
@@leroysinclair8499 Downpour was not that bad it's actually consider by some fans including me to be the entry that had potential and realized it in some ways and didn't in others.
I really enjoyed the return of the UFO ending as it felt right. Those endings have their own mini-canon. In SH1 Harry gets abducted by aliens and at some point in time befriends them. He then returns to take James in a similar way he himself got abducted. Several years later when they were all at Harrys place (James, the Aliens and Harry himself) and learn of Heathers experience Harry decides he had it with this town so he and his alien buddies go to Silent Hill and burn it to the ground. Of course there is no UFO Ending in SH4. according to the UFO canon the town didn't even exist anymore after the end of SH3. A prequel was the only resonable way to bring it back. To bad Homecomming ignored that and brought it back. Without making any sense and it's quite clear that no thought went into it. Alex gets taken by aliens and some guy appears saying "I knew it!" Not funny, not entertaining, just UFO because UFO. Good thing Downpour decided against it.
In my personal opinion I enjoyed this game very much and it was pretty scary to me. Yes, you have tons of weapons, you have energy drinks to keep running, but as a new game I didn't know what to expect so I was playing in a safe mood saving ammo, energy drinks, etc, till the very end. I liked the mirrors alternate dimensions, it was original for me, and the extra exploration these dimensions created did not bothered me at all (sanitarium included) and enjoyed them pretty much. And for the nurses explanation, what did you expected from a solitary trucker? Even at the intro of the game a friend tells Travis that he need to find a girlfriend, I read somewhere that this was the explanation for the nurses and for the monster you find at the motel. I know, the hammer space - trucker jacket is absurd, but in the end, it is a game and I don't have any problem with the game getting away with this. I enjoy the story, the father plot twist was heartbreaking, and as a personal opinion I can recommend this game to all my friends even with it's flaws.
i think i agree on u. the critic probably is already expecting a lot since he is very much familiar to the game series. and the expectation rises just like on any other series, whether it be a book, a movie, or a game. the expectation always rises.
My guess for the energy drinks thing is that they expected you would only use the running to escape monsters and stuff like that, so the energy drinks would be a rare item you’d want in case you ran out of energy while running away. Unfortunately, it didn’t work like that, but I can kinda see what they were going for.
You have no idea how excited I was to see you upload this. Last year, I literally was excited all week waiting for the next silent hill video and now you're bringing them back again. Outstanding video, despite the mediocre game.
The thing I love about Silent Hill is that although the map looks ginormous you only actually explore about 8% of it and all the other doors are locked so thank goodness they didn't waste any space with that nonsense because I would hate to walk into every single room find nothing and walk back out. All in all I'd say this is faithful to the idea Silent Hill one and two had with the maps but yeah the gameplay and story are their own can of worms but I actually enjoy this as it was the first Silent Hill game I played so maybe it painted my view of it going forward since the actual canon of the first game is different
Climax USA began the development, but after completely going off the rails the game was then given to climax UK. Considering they only had 7 months to completely rebuild the game I thought they did a great job.
Your delivery and format seems inspired by super bunny hop, not a bad thing though! You've got your own unique flair and although I don't always agree with you, your commentary is always interesting. Just wanted to let you know you've got a new fan.
The stamina is present on the original Silent Hill trilogy too though. You replenish it (along with health) with the ampoule and not with energy drinks, but still.
I liked Silent Hill Origins. I know it's not canonical but it was a well told story on it's own. Good gameplay, graphics and ambiance. I felt as though the title should have been something other than "Origins", implying that the events happened before Silent Hill. Maybe Silent Hill Alternate Dimension. 8/10
I'm so fucking glad that I'm not the only person who doesn't understand the hate tank controls get all the time. Some people genuinely claim that they can't play survival horror games because of the tank controls. It's mind boggling. Just play the game for 5 minutes and you'll get used to the controls, jesus christ.
The story completely contradicts the original game, though. It makes no sense... And tank controls work perfectly for Silent Hill games. The controls in Origins, however, are crap.
all of your points were VERY valid! I agree with your complaints, but overall I still found this game enjoyable because of the puzzles and it develops a nice atmosphere and the love for exploring the world! I would've loved a better utilized Butcher character :(
i remember playing this game on the PSP. didn't care for the gameplay much but i thought it actually had one or two good scares (aside from the general atmosphere, which is one of dread as per usual for most silent hill games). the eerily-long staircase at the hotel down to the basement boss battle against your father really unsettled me at the time. i stopped right before the final boss though because i had gotten bored. the game even has you fight the pyramid head before the final boss so i figured i had gotten all there was to get out of the game. worth a go if you're back in 2007 and really want a portable silent hill, i guess. as far as i'm concerned there's no topping the original 4 at the moment and i kinda wonder why they didn't just do a quick port of those games to the PSP, it probably would've sold just as well if not better. the PSP1000 was a really cool system with quite a few neat games. at the time, if you had a big memory stick it was a pretty powerful pocket device to have for music and videos too, existing right before every phone everywhere was powerful enough to do all that stuff with a better battery life and without being bulky as hell. the homebrew scene also let you have surprisingly flawless PSX emulation, and you could also use apps to use its IR port to turn off TVs at the mall :D. if it had had more memory then maybe it could've been useful for internet browsing, but 32mb almost never let any pages load. wi-fi was only good for multiplayer games pretty much. RIP PSP, blowing my young mind with a portable 3D GTA.
I love your reviews man, but I have a different take on this game. I've first play this game while I was working as a game tester in Montreal. The game was getting a ps2 port and I when I got into the project there is almost no bugs left so I've just got to play the game 8 hours a day for about a week. At that point I had never even heard about Silent Hill. But boy, what a blast that was. As you've mentioned the music of this game is purely amazing. Being a composer myself, I had no idea that games could make such a creative use of music and sound effects. To this day its still one of my favorite game soundtrack ever. For the game itself, I understand that fans of the franchises must have had high expectations, but for me knowing nothing about it, this was a shocking experience. The town, the fog, the alternate word, the weird characters, all of it made it a really special experience for me. Since then I've became a huge Silent Hill fan and played all the games at least one. I agree it's definitely not of the best of the serie, but it's still a pretty good game imo. Yeah so I've just wanted to give my two cents on this. Keep up the good work man, your my favorite gaming channel!
Actually Travis getting tired from running makes since because if you enter the room with the arcade machine there's a cigarette dispenser or poster thingy and Travis comments on it if you interact with it he says something along the lines of "I only smoke when I'm happy" so maybe he has lung issues that makes him exhausted faster
You share many of the same points as Dena Natali and myself with this game. I'm glad we're not the only ones that hate the reused monsters and whatnot.
The game is really underrated.. its the only silent hill game after team silent that captured the right silent hill atmosphere .It had a story that was solid and interesting and decent boss fights also. The whole Butcher/pyramid head thing is actually because Travis has a split personality ( fan theory ) and his other personality is a serial killer. There are pics in the game of murder victims that he remembers nothing of and the bad ending suggests that he killed people in silent hill.. i would give it a 7.5 out of 10...
I'm sure this was said before, but I love how in this Silent Hill game you play as a trucker and this is the first game to introduce punching as a viable option. Like "Yeah, that wall of flesh, heads, and nightmare fuel? I'm going to punch it."
Something you missed on the development change is that once the game arrived at Climax US they found out that Climax UK was doing a Dark Comedy with gameplay based on Resident Evil 4 and tone inspired by Scrubs (Which may explain the quick time events and stamina mechanics). They told Konami what was already done would be a disaster, they asked to start over to start anew, Konami agreed but didn't change the budget nor the deadline. I think that without these setbacks they could've done a good origins story and a more in-depth story for Travis. I like this game, I hope it can get a fanmade remake to introduce what's on my other comment (weapon reboot, better otherworld system, action and puzzle difficulty levels, redesigned monsters [Like making the nurses physically scary to represent Travis' history with his mom {Abuse + Him going to hospitals and sanatoriums because of her} and a Butcher that makes sense], and better controls to name a few things)
Im actually starting to love this game. It mimics the first 3 games with a few add ons but it's way better than shattered memories and homecoming and downpour and not to mention book of memories
I like Travis and the monster that represent him in this games. Here we have someone who is going to become serial killer sooner or later but somehow a town called Silent Hill decided to gives him a chance to either go past that or becomes what he have been trying to advoid all these times. The way Travis beat the creature down in this games truely must makes him feel very good to let go all of that weight. But I feel like the more he do it the more his other persona started to get stronger, and could overwhelm him, after he get bored of them and go for the more alived one. If you know what I mean.
It did take you back to the town, albeit a different area. I didn't play the handheld version. I played the P.S 2. version and it felt pretty good there. Even with it's shortcomings, I liked the atmosphere. The combat, not so much. I guess I was just hungry to see more of the town. I have to agree with you on the details. Putting something into the game because its 'iconic' is NOT the way to do it. After playing through the first 4, at the time, I was unaware of Team Silent's fate and wasn't educated on the development process. I just wanted to get back to the town! I guess that's what drove me to complete it. If the game was a new franchise, I wouldn't have the expectations. It wouldn't have been that bad on it's own. Trying to live up to Team Silent is a very hard thing to do. Nobody can do it like them!
8:40 Monster: (is 5 meters tall, weighs 3 tons, and can spit fire) Travis: (pAwNcH) 12:30 This is why origin stories will never be good. They can only be 1 of 2 things: 1. Story about a character BEFORE they were interesting. 2. Showing us a story that we KNOW the ending to, so nothing is surprising. Seems that SH: origins falls into number 2...
They fucked up a lot of lore and story in Origins. In fact, with the lore of Silent Hill, Origins shouldn't exist. Silent Hill's nightmares and monsters came to be when Alessa was trapped in her nightmares for seven years. Yet at the beginning of this game, she hasn't even started her nightmares yet. And Alessa's mom didn't start the fire in the house, that was because Alessa was under major stress and her power caused the boiler in the basement to explode.
Well,at least they TRIED to make something akin to the original franchise *Cough* *Cough* Silent Hill Book Of Memories *Cough* *Cough* But seriously though, the camera was rarely an issue to me while playing the game,i actually enjoyed the story and the challenges for the other runs, also the whole Stamina thing does actually make sense to me,since it could apply to the element of tension;for example, trying to outrun an enemy and then running out of stamina,as the enemies pursue you (Or the theater boss battle) as for QTEs,i think they're good when fighting enemies that jump on you an it takes like 10-5 seconds fpr them to get off you, that is,without the QTEs,and regarding the stunlock, yeah,it made the game more of a Halloween themed beat-em up than a survival horror game for me,though i won't deny that as my first Silent Hill game,i had fun. PD:Nice pummeling with a little bit of talking about the game
Theres an actual terrifying moment in this game, for me anyways. When you encounter the boss fight of the motel, which is a manifestation of his father. The way the father's manifestation went from hanging human telling Travis that he and his mother will see him in heaven, then to the nightmare version. Thats actually pretty scary, and the only disturbing moment in this game.
I heard a theory awhile back that Travis Grady is actually gay, and that’s the reason the nurses look the way they do. This could also possibly explain his distain of women, and his peculiar reactions towards Lisa.

@k_kubes honestly I would buy that.
Look forward to watching more videos from you.
but why are the nurses in silent hill 3?
Your comment deserves a lot more likes :)

Pretty much the combat of this game.
U mean *inextricably* tied
@@ClassicKrusty No, intricately works there as well.
But this doesn't mean is not a good silent hill game and i personally enjoyed a lot, and it has the most bonus unlockable items, weapons, outfits.
This channel is criminally underrated.

Travis doesn't need your wimpy weapons, he kills demons with his bare hands as a side job on a daily basis.
Silent Hill Monsters are not nearly as strong as what he hunts in his off time.

He’s a semi distant cousin of the Winchesters

I remember collecting televisions for melee weapons and, with a conga line of monsters following me as I jogged down the street, all I could do was laugh hysterically as I envisioned a man jogging with pants laden with TVs as meandered, unconcerned, with unsightly horrors tagging along. Like, "Hey, man, stop running, Days of Our Lives is on, we gotta see if Stephano is alive again."
I just... It was absurd. Utterly ridiculous.
P S Ok, that is objectively hilarious
And that's how Travis stole all TVs from Silent Hill. We need a quest of some poor monster from the town going to reclaim the TVs
I hated this Silent Hill game, to me this is the worst game not Homecoming. I never even finished this game because the combat was so difficult and controls were clunky. The story wasn't even interesting and didn't fit a psychological horror Silent Hill game
I'm ashamed to understand this joke
Give them back the TV :(
Use fist against monsters? Kratos would be proud
if you see Kratos using the fist for the entire game I would agree, but he needs weapons to progress, what a wimp.

It's still there? ._.
The weapon breaking down thing is actually kind of fun in my playthrough back then, because i beat the devil-lookin dude with a fucking tv
The main character is such a chad he murders monsters with his hands
Origins did one thing right: stealth. After game boxes that promised stealth mechanics, enemies that could follow your stealth, and other outright lies, in Origins turning off your flashlight and moving slowly meant you could actually creep passed enemies rather than fight them.
You don't need to slow down, turning it off is enough to avoid most battles.
You can do it in SH2 too.
That was in the first game, too
"Hey Travis, you can use a whole bunch of shit to defend yourself"
Travis: "Nah pal, I can just punch these monsters"
"Why not use a literal gun and just shoot the guys?"
Travis: "Punch"
"But it would-"
Travis: *"P U N C H"*
ONE PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWNCH!
The only reason the punch exit is for winning the wrestler costume by completing the challenge.
my DUDE, Team Silent did not "leave konami" they go pushed away or fired in a more blunt way.

For me Silent Hill Origins was a scary game, i don't even know why. Maybe becuase of good monster design.

10:04 - 10:06 I know the game's direction + game's music/background score would have made this moment terrifying but, without them, seeing one reflection of Travis going SFLKFMLSKFMLFS on one end while the other reflection of Travis stays stock still is great.
I think its a good start to newcomers of the series actually
Man, it would have been so much cooler if the story had just ditched the SH1 junk and focused on Travis' character. A trucker with a traumatic past who is possibly a serial killer (or maybe has a split personality that is a serial killer) would have been a really cool premise to play off of in a Silent Hill game.
Despite everything u pointed out I still really enjoyed this game

I think you did an awesome job on this video. You perfectly went through this game and dissected exactly what made it not work, while still talking about a few things it did well. Also a great mix of comedy and getting your point across. I really enjoyed this one.
Being able to kill monsters with your fists reminds me of End of Zoe from Resident Evil 7 but without any of the campiness.

Sora Udagawa same
This was the first SH game I played and beat. After that I downloaded the first on my psp. I loved origins
Silent hill origins was actually my first as well, why I have such love for it lol
Not to be picky, but you made a mistake in your intro.
The original version of the game was going to be made by Climax USA - and it was a horrible RE4 rip off.
It then got handed over to the UK team of Climax to make sure the final product was more classic SH in style
You got them mixed around is all :)
What was worse, the final game, or this RE4 style concept?
@@Nikku4211 final game isn’t that bad, at least it plays and feels like silent hill, instead of an RE4 clone
A man who travels alone most of the year from one part of the country to the other doesn't have repressed sexual feelings. Sure.
I was thinking the same
And he may also have a split personality disorder and one of them is a serial killer that targets women’s.

Origins is my favorite Silent Hill game, its creepy AF, has a very good story, was the first SH I played and gave me a nightmare on the same night
I think it has more to do with allesa's influence over him because dhalia clearly states she is using him.
I liked the weapon variety a lot. It really teaches you about how each weapon should word in a survival horror game.
Thanks UA-cam, a week later I discover this exists.
Actually, in the Bad Ending, it's hinted that Travis is a serial killer that targets females and in one cutscene, someone tells him he should "meet a nice girl". This symbolizes his sexual deprivations in the same vain of James.
I still agree it's a shit game though.
Why not instead of a nurse make a hooker? I think it would have more in commun with the character and it will be a new monster

I have always loved playing Origins but it definitely falls short compared to Team Silent's work.
I enjoy the story, the father plot twist was heartbreaking, and as a personal opinion I can recommend this game to all my friends even with it's flaws.
i think i agree on u. the critic probably is already expecting a lot since he is very much familiar to the game series. and the expectation rises just like on any other series, whether it be a book, a movie, or a game. the expectation always rises.
why didnt you talk about travis? his story arc was the reason i got it.
My guess for the energy drinks thing is that they expected you would only use the running to escape monsters and stuff like that, so the energy drinks would be a rare item you’d want in case you ran out of energy while running away. Unfortunately, it didn’t work like that, but I can kinda see what they were going for.
My favorite part was the theaters though. That was new

You have no idea how excited I was to see you upload this. Last year, I literally was excited all week waiting for the next silent hill video and now you're bringing them back again. Outstanding video, despite the mediocre game.
That Luigi's Mansion music though. XD
Just discovered your channel and i'm very impressed. You certainly put a lot of heart in your videos. Keep it up, and call me subscribed :D
With this quality of videos you really deserve more views and subs
Good job, Nitro!
I didn't even realize that I had an assault rifle until I reached the hotel boss, suffice to say it was a very easy fight
Your delivery and format seems inspired by super bunny hop, not a bad thing though! You've got your own unique flair and although I don't always agree with you, your commentary is always interesting. Just wanted to let you know you've got a new fan.
I just discovered your channel yesterday and I totally love it :)
The stamina is present on the original Silent Hill trilogy too though. You replenish it (along with health) with the ampoule and not with energy drinks, but still.
pretty cool seeing the perspective of a younger gamer on these. Great job man...even though I am 4 years late
Definitely gonna put this on my future games to play list. Also so excited for SH2 Remake

Just play the game for 5 minutes and you'll get used to the controls, jesus christ.
i love that you cosplay as all the boxart
Silent Hill origins combat = Saw the video game combat
The best part about Origin the the stage change that let you go into different world. Very cleaver.
even the bad silent hill games are good cause you get new vocal tracks to listen to and mcglynn is gold
I kinda like the story in Origins. Tank control was outdated, I'm glad they moved on from it. I actually enjoyed Origins more than I did with SH4.
The story completely contradicts the original game, though. It makes no sense... And tank controls work perfectly for Silent Hill games. The controls in Origins, however, are crap.
Yeah tank controls in modern games is one of fhe laziest ways of making it sesm challenging. Just makes them seem dated and a little bit sad
all of your points were VERY valid!
That's neat
Nurses are basically the mascot of Silent hill. Also this game is the easiest and least scary so it good for people new to the series
If he only smokes when he's happy, his lungs are probably in perfect health lol
@@gabbagoo9774 he could be happy alot of the time before the events of silent hill origins 🤷♂️
Travis punching demons would make the Demi fiend from SMT 3 nocturne proud.
You share many of the same points as Dena Natali and myself with this game. I'm glad we're not the only ones that hate the reused monsters and whatnot.
Best thing about Origins was that it was my first SH that introduced me to the franchise
Of course, all of us will get exhausted running for a long period of time. I don't see any problem/s with the energy drink.
I've watched your Silent Hill Videos, pretty good job!
You hit the nail on the head! Don't know why, but I was thinking you were going to like Origins. Maybe I was just in an internet argument mood, ha.
It mimics the first 3 games with a few add ons but it's way better than shattered memories and homecoming and downpour and not to mention book of memories
bout time, fuck boy. I've been rewatching the 2014 special for the past week :P
Scary monsters: *Exists*
Travis: It's punching time

Nobody can do it like them!
with my thumps up you passed to 4K! GREAT VIDEO I LOVE SILENT HILL!

12:30 This is why origin stories will never be good. They can only be 1 of 2 things:
1. Story about a character BEFORE they were interesting.
2. Showing us a story that we KNOW the ending to, so nothing is surprising.
Seems that SH: origins falls into number 2...
I gave away my PSP after starting Origins and being so sad of what my favorite game series had become 😅
I always find it hilarious that all Silent Hill intros done by James and Brady are creepy, except the ones for Origins and Homecoming.
Was my first Silent Hill game (that I owned & beat) I remember traveling through the other world played with my head
I really appreciate the Earthbound music you use in your videos :)
The combat doesnt suck, Travis is just a big chad who punches beasts
Nitro rad I've been a big fan since I saw your chance.
Well,at least they TRIED to make something akin to the original franchise *Cough* *Cough* Silent Hill Book Of Memories *Cough* *Cough*
But seriously though, the camera was rarely an issue to me while playing the game,i actually enjoyed the story and the challenges for the other runs, also the whole Stamina thing does actually make sense to me,since it could apply to the element of tension;for example, trying to outrun an enemy and then running out of stamina,as the enemies pursue you (Or the theater boss battle) as for QTEs,i think they're good when fighting enemies that jump on you an it takes like 10-5 seconds fpr them to get off you, that is,without the QTEs,and regarding the stunlock, yeah,it made the game more of a Halloween themed beat-em up than a survival horror game for me,though i won't deny that as my first Silent Hill game,i had fun.
PD:Nice pummeling with a little bit of talking about the game
I love the hand off of the game in the intro lol
Theres an actual terrifying moment in this game, for me anyways. When you encounter the boss fight of the motel, which is a manifestation of his father. The way the father's manifestation went from hanging human telling Travis that he and his mother will see him in heaven, then to the nightmare version. Thats actually pretty scary, and the only disturbing moment in this game.
I heard a theory awhile back that Travis Grady is actually gay, and that’s the reason the nurses look the way they do. This could also possibly explain his distain of women, and his peculiar reactions towards Lisa.
