You can clearly tell that the man is very detached from any direct experience of actual fear. It is naïve at best to believe you can let go of fear like that. I still love his vibe though. Seems to be a chill dude! ❤

I’m afraid. Because I’m sick. I thought I was fearless and that I overcame the fear of death for the rest of my life, but now that it might be a reality and is way closer now, I find myself close to begging. And crying.

I’m very sorry ur suffering. Do you have someone there to support you? If you can redirect ur attention from fear based thoughts about ur illness to something physically happening in the moment, such as ur breathing, the way water feels on ur skin and/or identifying 3 birds outside.. this will help you better cope with such difficult thoughts and feelings. Talking about what you’re thinking and feeling with someone you trust is also ultra helpful. I know this all is way easier said than done. However, training ur attention to focus on the moment over prospective threats will help your suffering while enduring such a difficult situation. I hope the best for You

No one has fear until fear enters them … so therefore … being free of fear is not something you do once and it’s done … it’s a constant battle to be free of fear. Remember … you are not alone on this battle. Hugs

Pain is only there to call you to listen. It is either a time to cry, and hopelessly fight to evade truth and reality,, OR, -a time to listen.. LISTEN. ‘What is to be heard?’.. your spirit, calls.. and if you can-not dig inwards, to the fiery roots of your heart - through all of the substrate of pain, then of-course, .. you will suffer in the void, in emptiness, with no meaning, no life, no being, nor presence.. ‘Light or Dark?’ - Every moment is your choice.

@@bille77 it seems like you are saying this in ignorance of Thich Nhat Hanh's life and what he experienced. He was a monk in Vietnam during the Vietnam War, and in calling for peace he was persecuted by the South Vietnamese government. He was accused of being a communist and at constant risk of arrest. This is an extremely scary environment to be in, but he never stopped advocating for peace even at risk to himself. Later he aided Vietnamese refugees in Singapore when they were being harshly rejected by the Singaporean government, and anybody who aided them was punished.
These are the words of a man who has worked through his own fear and put himself in dangerous, frightening situations in order to help others. If anyone is qualified to speak about fear, he certainly is.

I can't stop "what is" from happening. But I can make it through or grow through "what is" happening.
I do not fear death. When it is time, it is time. So until then, I want to enjoy life. No room for fear, here.
    Many blessings.

    • @Ludifant
      @Ludifant 10 місяців тому +2

I think there is always a part of me that will fear death. The I that thinks it is in the driver seat may think it no longer fears death, but the cells that support this I keep repairing, fighting disease, keep wanting to live. I still can´t voluntarily stop breathing or beating my heart, even if I tell myself I don´t fear death. We can deny this for very long. Consider that you can fear death and still live, even enjoy life. There is no mutual exclusion.
Being fearful is also being vulnerable, which is a big part of living in surrender to and readiness for whatever comes.

Thank you for writing your thoughts. I honestly had forgotten about my original comment that I had written 3 weeks ago.
But, the other day, I was thinking... there is nothing bigger than God.
So what is there to fear? Nothing because nothing is bigger than God.
Even in death, I will go to God.
So if there is nothing to fear, then all that is left is to enjoy this gift of life I was given.
I am in no hurry to go anywhere. There are so many things I want to experience in this life.
I respect the natural process of the ending of one life and the beginning of another. I am at a point in my life where I want to exchange fear with trust.
Thank you again for writing! Have a wonderful day!

I was bullied as a teen. That rejection by my peers left me ruminating, feeling fearful of it happening again. I had so much anger and hate.
As a 19-year-old, I shut myself inside my bedroom. I went to work, then went home and did nothing on the weekends. I missed so many summers, and who knows how many opportunities. I'm 39 now, and with therapy and reading books, I've just started to doubt fear is real.

Fearing is a self-preservation mechanism. Disasters and troubles do come into our life. We then prepare for the worst. Fear is necessary to be proactive. Fear of death is ridiculous. Noone has the prevention.

Been having a lot of terrible intrusive thoughts lately, and I always love coming back to Thich Nhat Hanh for guidance. He's a man of so much wisdom.

Fear can only be dealt with in the present moment. Plan as effectively as possible but do not develope the worry habit.

This is such a beautiful clip, simple and short; encompassing many of Thay’s key teachings. It is such a gift to listen to Thay, he speaks with such confidence and gentleness. Bodhicitta is so clearly manifest in his consciousness. Thank you for the beautiful edits as well

I have felt great fear recently and Thay’s teachings have been wonderfully helpful in recognizing the Right View, so that I may nurture my fear, and water the seeds of non-fear in me. I’m thankful today for all Plum Village brothers and sisters.
