- This video is for educational purposes, specifically to review a standard part of college-level Microbiology curriculum. In this video, Biology Professor (Twitter: @DrWhitneyHolden) compares and contrasts bactericidal and bacteriostatic antibiotics, with focus on how they work and what happens when they are removed from a system (like a test tube or human body). Certain caveats, including antibiotic concentrations, species-specific effects, and synergism, are also discussed.

This is a really simple and informative illustration of Bacteriocidal and Bacteriostatic as I comprehend these terms now. Thanks a lot!
Amazing lecture. Thank you soo much
Thanks!
İf i had a beautiful teacher like you,i would learn more effective, you are good at it,thank you
thanks
Everything in the world of RLL, is a catastrophic disaster that is so severe.
Thank you so much it was really helpful 💚
I really like your work, it's just amazing! I'm taking clinic classes on med school, and wanted to review this topic. Thank you very much!
Thank you so much ma'am
This was really helpful. Thanks a lot
Why there are no new videos from her😢?
Why some antibiotics like linzolid is static for some microbes and cidal for others???
Microbes are very diverse, with different enzymes, different cell wall structures, different metabolisms, and so on. Some microbes are more easily killed by an antibiotic, while others may be better able to survive.
I will be having a microbiology and parasitology exam tomorrow, thank you again professor, for helping me to understand it more
Happy to help! I hope you did well on your exam!
Thank you professor :)
thankss
Thank you for this videos
so what is the point of a bacteriostatic drug??
They can be just as effective as bactericidal agents! See more info here: www.idstewardship.com/basics-bactericidal-versus-bacteriostatic-antibiotics/
so by any chance, bacteriocidal is better than bacteriostatic especially if the patient is immunocompromised? plss enlighten me prof. thanks
Bacteriocidal may be better for an immunocompromised person, yes. But bacteriocidal can also be more harmful for commensal bacteria. A doctor can weigh the benefits and risks to make an informed decision.
@@BiologyProfessor thanks prof❤️
Thanks for explaining in easy way kindly I want to know the whole classification of antibiotics
THANKS MA'AM FOR PRESENTING IN EASY WAY
So bacteriostatic won’t cure infections? Or they also work just like the others?
They won’t kill bacteria by themselves, but they can keep bacteria from replicating, giving the patient’s immune system time to fight off the infection.
@@BiologyProfessor If I take Zyvox (Linezolid) for prostatitis will the bacteria get killed? Because the prostate it’s kind of weird in general that’s why I have my doubts, the bacteria is enterococcus Faecalis
I am not a medical professor, so I can’t offer medical advice. You should talk to your doctor. I did find this relevant paper that may help: “Unfortunately, as for oral agents, rare studies have reported so far the successful outcome of linezolid or moxifloxacin therapy which perhaps the only available fluoroquinolone that may attain prostatic secretions concentrations 10-fold above the MIC for E. faecalis (Hallgren et al., 2001; Wagenlehner et al., 2008).” www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fphar.2020.00504/full
@@BiologyProfessor Moxifloxacin destroyed my CNS (shaking like I’m cold, numbness in legs, random stringing etc), my only hope is Linezolid, I hope it’s CNS side effects are milder, I need to decide if I’ll go to a hospital and get it IV or take the pills, I’m scared about it’s safety too, thanks for the help 🙏🙏🙏
I wish you good luck and fast healing!
Hello doctor :)
Why we use amoxicillin with clorethromycin together to treatment H.pylori
Although they should not be used with other
I need to know the answer
They are not effective alone, amoxicillin at only 20% and clarithromycin between 40 and 60%. When adding omeprozole, concentrations and efficacy increase significantly at an eradication rate of 96%. I'm not sure what your question is exactly, but it is used commonly with omeprozole. If you mean used with another antibiotic my guess would be overkill and good bacteria is necessary not to mention that antibiotics can do harm to you as well.
Mam you are perfect teacher love from india❤
Nobody is perfect, but it is very nice of you to say. Please subscribe:)
Thank you madam... kindly do a video on determination of MCB and MIC
Here’s a few that could help!

Disk Diffusion Test: ua-cam.com/video/o6vF2yPTsh8/v-deo.html
So pretty 😍
Your explanation are good mam
Glad you liked it :)
Thanks for explaining in easy way kindly I want to know the whole classification of antibiotics
I’ve added it to my list! Thanks!
