@@Yapping_Chameleon-m4yno they didn’t, the past tracks were hard coded into the game due to using the hardware’s instruments, they had no other choice BUT to use the JP past tracks
This is so consistent with the Present and Future tracks. It gives the ambiance of the American soundtrack, uses the melody of the present, sticks in the Good Future slightly as a hint to what is coming if you save the Past, and gives that overall happiness vibe that happens when things aren’t as complicated. Good job.
I must say, these are all phenomenal. I've spent a long time wondering what the past tracks would sound like in the US soundtrack if it got its own past songs and I've never really been able to figure it out, but you did it perfectly! These really do sound like they belong in the US soundtrack and they are so atmospheric and relaxing, especially this one. Honestly I pretty much like both the US and Japanese soundtracks equally but if the US soundtrack had these I would probably prefer it. Though I can't help but notice that these use motifs from other tracks for the stage which is something the US soundtrack doesn't really do (which is one thing I don't like about the US soundtrack; all the tracks for a given stage always seem somewhat similar but they don't have any unifying motif [except for maybe metallic madness in a few parts and maybe some other stages] unlike the JP version and not only do they not have a unifying motif, they don't really use motifs from other tracks at all whereas these US past tracks use motifs from all the other tracks) which could make it seem a little bit out of place for the US soundtrack, but I guess you could explain it in that it's reflecting all the things that the stage could become, so it still fits in with the US soundtrack. So yeah, these are very very good and you did an amazing job making them.
I'd say Palmtree Panic, Collision Chaos, and Metallic Madness have reoccurring motifs for their themes. (Metallic Madness's is more notable in the 2011 remake's version) Both of Quartz Quadrant's Good and Bad Futures also share a similar motif as well, as does Wacky Workbench's. Of note, a part of Wacky Workbench's Good Future shares a motif from the Special Stage theme. (Near the end of the Good Future and near the beginning of the Special Stage) (I hope I explained that well, I'm not good at explaining music.) ^^;
This makes me feel something inside me... It may be nostalgia but whatever it is, I like it.... Sometimes I just hum or listen to this in the middle of the night reminiscing about the past and having hope for the future... Thanks for posting this track!
God I remember really wanting to hear the past versions of the Us soundtracks and this not only works as official with how the past is represented with genesis adjacent sounds but also blends the JP track elements. And it touches the emotions like the official jp tracks being reminiscent of the past you are in currently.
It really paints a picture for me, one of the sun rising on a tropical landscape gradually warming the crisp air, the dew on the plethora of light green plants reflecting the light to appear as though the area itself is sparkling. It's quite peaceful, putting to mind one's own reflections of the past and also their hopes for today.
Great take. Some people forget is that the Sega CD PCM hardware had access to higher quality samples than the SNES could produce which while still having less quality than Red Book Audio could produce really good audio. Heck I noticed that the prototype version of the Past music which was redbook audio sound really similar to it's PCM final counterpart just slowed down meaning that the Past version was probably a demo track which are sometimes slower in order to later speed them up.
Also the fact that the Past themes were made using the PCM chip in the Sega CD, and music built into the game’s hardware is much harder to edit than simply swapping tracks on a CD, hence why the Past themes are unchanged in the US version of Sonic CD
It actually makes sense that there's no official version of us past because in the past during development Sega was going to use the jp music for both versions this may actually symbolizes it
@@randomanims plus the songs were probably harder to make on that chip, and i don't think the composer for the US sountrack knew how to use the PCM anyways

Actually that's _exactly, precisely, bar NONE_ the reason why the US soundtrack paled so much in comparison to it's japanese counterpart. It was good in quality terms, yes, but... As the japanese version in it's tracks had cohesion that the american version did not, and Sonic games tell stories without words, the motifs present in the former in each zone made us feel that by travelling though time you actually _were in the same location, different time period at all moments_ and the latter, didn't.
