Hey trucker Steve.. just passed my road test today with flying colors. Your videos helped me big time.. I’ve only been training for 6 days with only 4 hours of road time… just wanted to say thanks
What an amazing video! I am in cdl school and there is like 7 instructors all of them brag about 25plus years of experience, OTR, drop and hook, local driving, clean record etc….but you ask them if they have a video available or if they can do one for the students: the answer is NO. Thank you Sir for providing such a great video with commentary. God bless you!
@@josealgaba4083 thank you 🙏 for your kind words. I don’t want to Brag about my over 50 years with a class A license but my learning experience has never Stopped!
@truckerstevecdlinstructor the praise is highly warranted sir. if i had you as an instructor when getting my cdl years ago I'm certain I would've learned much more quickly and had better results. well done.
@@dannyfromvegas1543 In most cases, Yes. Getting the tractor under the trailer if possible. If the left rear of the trailer is starting to out of the alley, a short small pull up may be needed. Best to you on your next CDL test.
The first step of turning the wheel all the way to the left, look for the center of the landing gear and the back right tractor tire to be even? Is this right?
@@grassyknol your setup ~ left then follow up with the rt to get the tractor trailer straight. If you have a good angle - straight line back to the rear cone. Backing into the alley - rt - back the trailer in - landing leg near the left line - followed up with the left - if the rear of the trailer starting to move out of the alley - Stop - small pull up - complete the back into the alley. Now - after two weeks, my students don’t use reference points. It’s all about the trailer - reacting to the tractor. Makings the correct adjustment. Have many videos on this - find the one that you helpful.

Yes I can tell it reacts faster because when I do the straight back the trailer is all over the place. Any tips on that maneuver?? Asking because I have road this Friday and I’ve only train for 2 days. Your insight would be appreciated..
@@Glitch-for-president how many days have you been training? How many hours on the road. If you are testing on Friday, you should be proficient in all range skills. Please view all videos to hopefully understand the concept. And every video is full of Tips
Yes. This alley is not fully set up with cones. Just the two cones where I must back into the right lane or alley. Please view the many videos with the cones and the painted lines This video gives tips to the viewer on doing the offset.
Thank you for your response I’ve been watching all of your videos on this maneuver, failed my pretrip first time because of LABS passed my second time on pretrip, but failed maneuvers due to stopping short on the first stop, and the trailer bumper swung over the line during the ROB. Retest is Tuesday, I have your videos on repeat all day every day until then

Hey Steve would this setup work with a 30ft trailer?
Yes. But the trailer reacts faster.
Also it’s easier with a smaller trailer.

I noticed you have two cones set up on the left side, are you just missing the far back cone 20ft back from the last one shown in the video?
