Yes you are correct. Yet the average truck driver is not business savvy enough or willing to put in the skin to force a change. Currently most with their own authority are simply trying to survive. To make actual change. Will take getting the lawmaker's involved. Good luck as they already have lobbyists from every industry courting them. It is going to take a drastic downfall of the industry to get noticed. As it has happened in other industries. Like banking, real estate, etc.
Then the lawmaker's will bring forth new regulations. That will negatively affect the little operators, while the big operators, business as usual.

@gettingitdone1015 there should be a unified system so that both carriers and brokers and customers are all rated on same platform, throw every DOT station on there and every DOT agent. There is just so much dumb in the Industry that it cannot keep getting more fragmentation, has to be joint effor by all to resolve this issue.
      Divide and fail

I quit after 10 years. My last job was when I got charged for "Personal Conveyance", My truck got impounded, I got locked up for a few weeks in Texas,
I was forced to go to court in a state I do not live in, and my lawyer won the case as I sued the city for $100k.
I was forced to fly airline back home, only to be forced to return to Texas, because my company gave my truck to someone else,
and they put all my personal property in black plastic bags and many of my things were stolen. And thats the day I quit trucking forever.
I spent 10 years tolerating the trucking industry bllshyte, disrespects from DM's & dispatchers., having to fight each week to get my pay,
didn't get paid for waiting several hours to several days of layovers, DM's constantly forcing me to bobtail not earning anything. I got seriously tired.
Drivers need to protest and bring ALL trucks to congress in Washington until all drivers get proper pay and respect in this industry.

I dont think so, it's more likely that this is collective negligence and ignorant self interests. This is really what you get when you so heavily promote individualism, everyone ends up doing their own thing to the point the entire system begins to contradict itself. This is a big example of why regulations are necessary and why it needs to be done through government so that there is a guaranteed standard across the board.

This is EXACTLY what I've been dealing with for the last 4 years. My last inspection was Dec 2020. Since the BatFever, everyone was scared of their own shadows, so if you were legal, they would not inspect you. Half of the loads I call on, they won't use me because of it. Every port I've called said you can not request inspections. They have to initiate it. I got inspected in Trinidad, CO this morning and the officer was perplexed that I was frickin ecstatic about it.. I didn't even care if I got any violations. I'm sick of the brokers using inspections as criteria for determining carrier fitness. I always tell them that that's the equivalent of me requiring that the broker have an irs audit.. It's pretty dumb. I understand why they do it. It's to prove you have physical assets, but there are numerous other ways to prove that.. Carrier 411 is a freaking nightmare.. If you try to call them, they IMMEDIATELY block your number if they know you are a carrier. You can not communicate with them..

If you think these complaints are going to change anything because FMCSA will see this and change anything you are not understanding why these mechanisms exist. Mega carriers have meetings with FMCSA where they discuss and suggest new rules and regulations to squeeze O/O and small companies that work off spot market. All of this is a way to ensure they control how many companies enter the market to ensure mega carriers are not too affected by it.

A local state trooper sent me a email asking me for all the stuff he described above, my logs, BOL related to the HOS on the logs, and my Clearinghouse info. I passed it 100%. The second inspection was about a year later, it was on the side of the road, I was hauling stones and according to the DOT officer I should have corner protection for all the straps. He was 100% correct but I told him that I was going to the first truck stop and get some more. He let me go with a warning. The last one was in 2023 and it was on a weight station 😮, I passed in flying colors. 😊

And furthermore that 'ticket' that they write is just a warning that in order to contest, you have to submit a DataQ that goes through that officer and his supervisor. The last thing either of them want to do is go back on that ticket that they wrote and create a question of their integrity.

The market as a whole shows what freight moves at and which rates, so the fact that someone picks up a $4 load and moves within 200 mile radius has no effect on long haul or every day operations.
If you ain't making a minimum gross of $1000/day and taking cheaper freight, you are the problem. Everyone just needs to stop hiring Dispatch services, if you don't have what it takes to run the business that means you know nothing about it.
If you don't have what it takes to service your own vehicle, you got no business being a owner operator that takes crap rates and helps kill the market.

The sad thing is that, as carriers, we continue to have to jump through hoops with these brokers. And yes the owner of Carrier411 tried to screw carriers but also will screw his own clients. I will be speaking to my state officials to see what can be done.

Trucking is not trucking anymore. Crazy how ove witnessed the shift in no less than 8 yrs.
I guarantee that this new freight guard is a Mega carrier brain child. Who makes it to where you can fraudulent have a stop put on you by a broker.
As he said... kept hanging up in his face. No recourse but driver gets the freight guard.
Pure bull sitting on a toilet.
Asking for detention pay gets a freight guard??!! Wtf!

Started a trucking company then we lasted a year before the rates dropped and it just wasn’t feasible. So I understand this problem had this same issue for 9 months . So you have to run through states that run DOT numbers especially Arkansas ; Tennessee; every time you go through a scale house they’re going to do one of three things or all, check your DOT on the side of your truck your IFTA sticker and truck weight some scale houses do them all and some do one or they just randomly select. I was told by one DOT officer that they do inspections for new carriers by number they know which number where issued when.
Another weird way to get an inspection is go through a speed trap with a state highway officer. I went through a speed trap coming down 84 in NY and was pulled over it was a very steep hill I was very polite and he did a
Level 2 on me and I told my nephew that is actually a good thing. Don’t suggest you do this in every state only thoose that give warnings.
I always scare the companies I work with and tell them in a sullen voice that I got inspected and then tell them that I passed, lots of companies even give you an inspection bonus.
I know the feeling of being your own authority it’s like they want you to fail. Also if you work with a good dispatcher who specializes in working with new companies they can help by listing your company in certain places and they have relationships with brokers, relationships are everything l. But of course they charge a fee but your also paying for their experience and relationships
Good Luck We’re all Rooting For Your Success 🎉

As much as I can understand that people don't like this change, this is 100% positive for the whole industry in getting the cheap unsafe drivers off the road and bringing up the prices for freight. If you are afraid of the DOT scales or MOT Inspection Stations (Canada), you have no business driving anything bigger than a Ford Ranger. Some of us out there have safe trucks, we do proper inspections and refuse to drive junk on the road. That's how it should be.

I've just opened a company a half a year ago to be right , and in last two months I've got inspected twice level 3 in Colorado and Lvl 1 in CALI both clean , but still cant cover much loads with just because the most brokers are asking at least 365 days in business. As a suggestion to the guy who operates this company I'll suggest to make a same route for a little bit this way chances to be stopped at weight stations are increasing 10x times , because of that's how algorithm works , the more you cross same WS than more chances to be picked by random inspection .I've been doing OR-TX for a month (I've got inspected in CO ) after i did OR-CA for a months ( I've got inspected recently)
