We do the elf on the shelf and intentionally make it creepier... When he comes back we always write a letter to the kids and last year I put that the elf was keeping an eye on them from their closet sometimes throughout the year. Of course they didn't like that, so this year I told them that he was hanging out in the linen cabinet in the bathroom to make sure they brushed their teeth, which freaked them out. It was wonderful... LOL
What a fun tradition! That ninja is so cute, what a great way for the kids to learn to give. It's a nice thing to do with the kids..something different then the elf on the shelf 😘

Sometimes I think you guys have so many comments to try and read so I won't leave a comment...but I wanted to say how encouraged I am watching you guys spreading positivity and the lesson of giving to others. I had never watched a vlog before until I was seeking out answers for our infertility. I kept coming back day after day for the last 3 years or so because of that amazing positivity. Seriously could not be prouder of you guys for using your platform for GOOD. Biggest high five from Southern California.

I have started a new tradition myself. I live by myself but the holiday season is an important time of the year to give back to those less fortunate than us. So with each paycheck I receive in December I've decided to give back whether that's just buying a small coffee and croissant for the homeless or buying a toy for toys for tots or donating canned food. It is very important to realize there are people less fortunate than us out there and we need to give back. Your family is truly inspiring to show others the importance of giving back during the holidays. Thank you! And congratulations on 1 million!

I have watched so many people with a huge following, and met teachers who would meet thousands of students every week and very little of those people took the oportunity to spread love and positivity. I wish I had this oportunity as well. But I am so grateful that you guys do what you do and inspire everybody who watches your videos. We are not from the same religion, we dont speak the same language, we are not from the same country. But love is love no matter where we are. Keep doing good things ❤️ I love it

This video is bursting with sweetness. We have a 2.5 year old and a 7 month old and it just makes me want to be even more intentional about teaching them about service, eventhough they are young. Hi Ellie and Jared....loved the vlog today. please do be careful with the popcorn and the kids. A toddler choked and passed away a few weeks ago. A lot of parents don't know that it's a choking hazard. Toddlers need to develop that proper grinding action and that usually takes place at ages 4 to 5 .

I agree! My mom didn't let us eat popcorn until we were like 5, because my little sister choked once (she was like 3) and had to do the Heimlich maneuver, so she stopped after that.

@Ellie and Jared, you should get one of those cardboard maps. Put a push pin in each city or country where your subscribers are from. Then one day use it to teach your sons about other countries and cultures. Even if you don't like traveling, in this way you kinda are traveling around the world!!! I'm originally from Lewistown Pennsylvania (town of Hartley's kettle cooked potato chips) but now our family is in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico (the land of real leather)

Just so you guys know you have done what you set out to do. I am home with a life threatening illness, and don't have any human contact to the outside world, finding you guys has totally made me feel welcome and whole again. I cant wait until the day I have an income coming in and I too can help the community and try to get them to help as well, my area is not big on helping, I have tried to reach out to get help myself and no one is willing to help the way you did this year, it was awesome to see and I wish we did something here, not just for myself but there are others who are worse off than myself, although it doesn't feel like that at times, I have to remember there are homeless people and at least for the time being I do have a roof over my head, so just thank you from the bottom of my heart for making me feel whole again, and for the hard work you do to serve others. I absolutely love how active your kids are. They are rarely in front of the tv and I don't think I've ever seen them with some sort of tablet. They know how to entertain themselves and that's something a lot of kids don't know to do anymore because of technology

I've watched your family grow since the pregnancy announcement of Calvin was placed into my recommended to watch videos just over 2 years ago and ever since then I've been hooked! Just wanted to say how I've tended to fall into the 'passive watcher', always liking the video but very rarely commenting but I want to change that and become more active as you guys deserve to know how many people's lives you're changing. Just by providing a 10 minute video of your day leaves me smiling for the rest of the day and inspired/motivated with my own life and future and I know that's the same for so many other people!!
