What I love about the elementalist is how flexible he is. He can either become a wrecking machine or a supportive element generating battery for his party. Though most of my enchantments are spent in +1 movements on early cards
This is the one class that no one in our campaign has ever played and we have finished the game a number of times. Thanks for the guide. Perhaps I'll consider playing it.
In the right party comps and if you are far into the game aka high prosperity it's pretty amazingly fun. problem is early on it's awful and in some party comps it just plain is not fun at all!
I played Elementalist once, and it was pretty cool. I ended up using, “Shaping the Ether” to find my wife’s class Eclipse (no spoiler) with an element she needs. I’d like to try it again at a higher prosperity with multiple element-driven classes so we can really take advantage of the synergy of the elements. Great vid once again 👍
Elementalist is THE most rewarding character to play when you get your footing on it. My second favorite character after Saw or tied with 3 spears with frosthaven rules update
8:10 Formless power is pretty good!!! The Spellweaver has Mana bolt, and that was considered good, with any one element it becomes a Attack 3 Range 3 and thats it. But for the Elementalist with any one Element it becomes exactly that but with 1 Exp on top!!! I mean of course its better in early levels, its availible in early levels. And even if you dont consider it to be really good, consider that this might help you to reach higher levels faster! Many people start the Elementalis in early levels and for real, this card is as good as it can get.
Nice guide! Triforce is the first class I got to Level 9 with, so I have a lot of love for it. I think you explained the Formless Power/Shaping The Ether differences about as well as anyone could lol. Shaping The Ether is decent for very low levels, but mid to late game, I'm taking Formless Power 100% of the time, and almost playing at turn 1 every time as well. It's great for adding attack power to AoEs, plus something that doesn't get mentioned much, it's great for stealing elements from enemies. Sorry Night Demon...taking that Dark, no invisibility for you next turn! If you know an enemy is fond of a certain element, use it up with Formless Power before they do! Also a huge fan of tossing Curse on Crystallizing Blast haha...it doesn't do much in the way of damage, but the damage mitigation it provides is super useful. I would also recommend adding Jump to either Raw Enhancement or Pure Augmentation, whichever one you use more, since reliable Jump options are few and far between for this class. It's a super polarizing class for sure, but if played right I agree it's super fun and can be powerful! Thanks for the guide!
Damn you Night Demons lol If you can make all the elements you need Formless Power is a very nice addition, although you probably won't need it when you are just straight up decimating every normal enemy on the board!
Nice Guide. My problem with elementalist was, that it was one of the slowest class to level up. But hey, at least it was kind of fun getting there. Once you get to lvl 7 its super powerfull, but also it becomes kind of one dimensional (vengeance - stam potion - vengeance - stam potion - vengeance - pendant - stam potion ....). Btw at lvl 6, I actually took the second lvl2 card, enhanced it with element creation and it mostly solved my movement problems. The mana sphere summon would be awesome, if it was a ranged dmg. As for the perks, I dont like creating elements through them as its too random and I like planning my turns in advance. I rather invested in some element creation through enhancements and items and just prepared exactly what I needed.
Totally agree on the one dimensional part even though it is super op it can get boring after a bit! The mana sphere would be drastically better if it was ranged for sure but it can still do some pretty good work if you can protect it. Certain classes can help a lot with that!
A few scenarios ago the triforce in our party got Vengeance, and everything is different now. All of a sudden, normal enemies become completely non-threatening. It's absolutely bonkers.
Just started playing gloom with a buddy and we ran a 4 man.(base game) elementalist, Sun keeper, red guard and the doom stalker. Such a strong way to keep the light and the fire up with the elementalist balancing the other 4 it has been so fun playing this character and watching your vids! I’ve learned a lot, please release some cool builds! Love trying new things out!
That will be a whole new series starting next week! Will be called ultimate build path or something where I talk about exactly which cards to take and replace for every level.
i've seen most of your guides (always watching them after i unlocked those classes and also i never watch further the level i actually am) and i pretty much like them all. but what i saw on multiple occasions is that most of the time when it comes to complex cards you aren't having a solid grasp on how they work / what they do. that's why you pick them "wrong" sometimes. but everyone has his playstyle and fun, as well as getting through the scenario, is all that matters. cheers
Could you please let the cards take up most of the screen, 2/3 or at least half, I was watching the saw guide and went here to check if the display had changed on more recent videos but it didn't. While watching this on mobile I have to squint to be able to read the cards. Or keep my phone really close.
@@neuralnetgames6540 That would be great. I think radge badger does it like 50/50. Card/ Face. I'm usually folding laundry, or travelling to work or something at the same time while watching, helps a lot if it's a lot bigger.
"It's simuLACrum, not SIMulakrum." Also, for the life of me I just can't get my head around how this class functions. I've lost more scenarios than I can count because I added this character to my group (digital). The more characters in the group, the later in the scenario I lose, but I've definitely lost far, far more scenarios with this character in the group than I've won.
I have played lots of gloomhaven and in the base game vengeance is great. Saved some scenarios for us, but in digital it seems hard to use. There seems to just be more elites and its value just drops.
I've got a decent amount of time into digital but haven't played elementalist but you're right there are definitely some pretty noticeable differences!
would be a dream or a nightmare lol If you are not decisive those 3 classes can take forever to play so with some people you may just double your scenario time
I generally like your videos, you seem like a chill dude, and I often agree with what you're saying, but I had to stop this video at 4:07 when you said Lava Eruption is "a bit underpowered". Hitting everything within range 4 doesn't seem very powerful to you? I'm hard-pressed to think of even a handful of other cards that can do that. Sure, it's only 1 damage, but you can make that 5 damage with no effort (Minor Power, Major Power, +1 from Formless Power), let alone things like bonuses from allies, Pendant of Dark Pacts cheesiness, other items, etc. Attack 5 against everything in the room (50 or more damage) sounds pretty good to me. Not to mention it's a level 1 card, so it can be enhanced for an additional +1 to the attack for 100 gold which is pretty good value considering what you get. Not to mention the move 2 (upgradable to move 3 for 30 gold) with element generation and the excellent initiative. I started at 2nd level with this character, played it until 9, and never took Lava Eruption out. Not to be a jerk, but honestly, hearing you say that kind of makes me question your knowledge/expertise at this game...
It's fair that you have a different opinion, and I love to talk Gloomhaven, but to question my expertise is simply not necessary and kind of ruins the other points you have made. I've been playing Gloomhaven since the very first edition in 2017 and have dedicated the last 8 months of my life to making quality content on it; currently over 70 videos. First off you will find that my opinion is not in the minority around the card. Not sure if you follow the community but Themris and Gripeaway are arguably 2 of the more influential people and they both have guides on the class. They are moderators on the Gloomhaven Subreddit and are both developers on Frosthaven. Here is a direct quote from Themris' guide "this is a fairly weak loss overall, except if we have easy access to power increases(like a Tinkerer buff, a power potion and Formless Power". The situations you talk about where you hit 10+ enemies are magical and amazingly fun but hitting 10 enemies ALMOST NEVER happens and doesn't represent the true power of the card. Also how can I make a general guide(this guide literally doesn't even have card swaps and none of the guides in this series do) that talks about using a bunch of higher prosperity items(which are spoilers btw; and courtesy dictates warning people, which you did not do) taken for the sole purpose of literally one card which can be situationally powerful when you dedicate a bunch of items and enhancements to it. Underpowered is probably not the best choice of words but it is in the context I was talking about, which is the card itself without a bunch of higher prosperity min-maxed strategies. These guides are not about min maxing they are more about generally understanding synergies and the class in an overall manner and pointing out some rules issues. They are to help people recognize certain things and learn the class. However, I should have mentioned more on the situational upside you are talking about because you are right in that in can be very powerful given a focused item strategy, enhancements and the right situation.
@@neuralnetgames6540 Like I said, I generally think your videos are good and enjoyable, I wasn't bashing them. But when you casually dismiss one of the best cards in the whole deck it's hard to ignore. "The situations you talk about where you hit 10+ enemies are magical and amazingly fun but hitting 10 enemies ALMOST NEVER happens and doesn't represent the true power of the card." - That happens almost every time you use it (4 player of course), Again, it's range 4, it's going to hit the entire room. But sure, maybe it's only 8 enemies for 5+ damage each, for a base of 40 damage plus modifier draws. Seems like a pretty good loss. "Here is a direct quote from Themris' guide "this is a fairly weak loss overall, except if we have easy access to power increases(like a Tinkerer buff, a power potion and Formless Power". - That's...almost exactly what I said. Because you always have easy access to a power potion (level 1 prosperity) and Formless Power (one of your own level 1 cards). And probably other sources as well. "Underpowered is probably not the best choice of words but it is in the context I was talking about, which is the card itself without a bunch of higher prosperity min-maxed strategies. These guides are not about min maxing" But it's not even min-maxing. You could min-max it up to 11 or 12 if you really wanted to be cheesy. Getting it to 5 is simple and not even remotely min-maxing. I'm not a power gamer; that's just an obvious way to play that card. And I've watched some of your other guides, you have to admit there's some min/maxing going on ; ) Not to a terrible level or anything, but everyone does some degree of optimizing when they play. Look like I said you seem like a cool guy, and I'm not trying to kill your hustle, but I feel obliged to point out what I feel are oversights. But I've said my piece and I'll leave it be. Keep making videos and I wish you nothing but the best!

No problem! Unlocking new classes is the greatest joy in gloomhaven and I definitely don’t want to spoil that for anyone!

Not as of right now, but it's been my favourite class ever since I used it in my previous run

love or hate relationship, doesn't seem to be much middle ground!
