I play a 2P Soothsinger summoner build that is extremely powerful at level 9. We play at level 7 difficulty. My partner is a Nightshroud, so I oftentimes find myself the sole focus of enemy attacks since he is invisible a lot. I have purchased all 4 summoning items (I bought the looting remote spider at the beginning to help me get more coins). Basically, I let the summons do the attacking and most of my turns are focussed on stunning, immobilizing, disarming and cursing. I don’t use any songs and sold my solo item to fund the summon purchases. My card selection is largely the ones mentioned in the video, except at level 8, I go back and pick the 2nd level 7 card. I’ve also been really curious about shadow puppets but I think in two player, the enemies may be too spaced out. Also, it contradicts the strategy of stuffing as many curses in the enemy attack modifier deck. Thanks for the great guide.
Late to the channel, just unlocked today. Got to start at level 5. May rethink choices based off this video and restart a new soothsinger next time. Thanks for the content!
Just started playing this class. Which is funny because I just started Three Spears when you came out with that video lol Thanks for the tips, loving the class so far! Level 5, Prosperity 5
Great video as always. I think that Pull the Strings is actually better than you give it credit for. Especially at two players, if you move the Soothsinger into position a lot you can force traps and do great crowd control. On scenarios with melee monsters it can deal 1-2 traps per scenario and stop 4-5 monsters from attacking. I think at two player it is viable, but I agree with you on your thoughts at 3-4 players. The soothsinger feels like one of the least balanced classes and I think this video really shows how to exploit that.
Rewatching this now that I play GH, and unlocking this class next. How does 1 class like this have “low” level cards better than level 9s in other classes…. They seem way to OP, and I’m not even close to an expert. Once I unlock them, I can go back and complete some levels I struggled with.
Seems to be a boss in 3-4p but our group did not enjoy the character in 2p. I finally built a weird melee hybrid build with the solo scenario item which at least made it viable
My very very favorite class! 1. I agree with your thoughts on defensive ditty. I only bring it along on boss scenarios and I usually only play the bottom. 2. Defensive Dirge. I used to always play the top but I found that with all the disarm, immobilize and stun that the soothsinger has, the enemies hardly ever get to attack so I felt that the top was being wasted. I use the bottom much more. 3. I like your thoughts on Shadow puppets. I never considered it before. I want to try it out now. 4. I enhanced the bottom of DD with Disarm as well. It makes a broken card even more OP. 5. I should play more summons with this class.
It's definitely a really powerful class, especially in higher player counts! Try some summons and let me know how it goes. And thanks so much for always taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it!
Only level 7, but it's interesting that both you and another Gloomhaven guide warn that the top of Melody and Harmony is a trap card. I love having two songs going, especially with heal + whatever. I also have plenty of stamina potions to help with the low card count.
It can be made to work but it's very awkward, so I think that standard guides shy away from it because of how specifically you have to play. It's a good alternate build though that can be made to work if you are very synergized and have specific items and play style
I’m four or five scenarios into my music note. 4pp. I’ve had tremendous luck with the flea bitten shawl. Being able to get closer to the action and avoid attacks is super useful and multiplies the bottom of Disorienting Dirge. In my last scenario I ditched the DD top in favor of retaliate Song when we encountered a group of captives. Their retaliate 2 range 2 was INSANE with my buffed modifier deck. Shield? I don’t see no steenking shield!😀
Soothsinger was actually for me the biggest surprise in gloomhaven, when we played it for the first time. I was actively avoiding unlocking it, as it was pretty obvious, that it is going to be some kind of bard, which I dont like to play (I usually avoid playing support characters and bards especially, no matter how strong they are). Now that obviously wasnt the surprize as it is a bard and it is mainly a support, but I was surprized how much fun it was. Oh and no, it is not really weak with two players, I mean sure, its just bonkers with 4, but with 2, it is still IMO one of the strongest classes, but not so ridiculously OP to be boring. I had a ton of fun with her and yes, I did some more "wonky" stuff, not always taking the strongest option, using balanced blade and summons. And btw I also took Shadow Puppets and did not regret. Sure, captivating performance is probably objectively stronger, but at late levels, i did not need it anyways and wigh so many great non-move bottoms, a top movement is great to have.
Agree with you here; I love attacking with her crazy attack modifier deck, and Shadow Puppets is a great move option for her (though its mind control effect can nonbo with other actions of hers.)
Alternate builds with the Soothsinger are definitely where it's at! I personally didn't enjoy her as much as I do other classes but I totally get why others do!
Man this class is really good with Cthulu. Helping shuffle curses and then giving disadvantage to make every monster kill themself off of Baneful Hex. And heal Song can be really good to make up for Willing Sacrifice or ally poison/wound effects. Kind of sad that Cthulu got its top shuffle curse nerfed to 1 tile though while Disorientating Dirge is a thing.
I don't like the new advantage, because I just want it to be super simple for new players. the rest is good! they are making a lot of the right calls in my opinion. Going to start covering Frosthaven news as well so stay tuned
@@neuralnetgames6540 as someone who has only played JOTL, the existing rules on rolling mods seem bad. There shouldn’t be a scenario where you miss when you have advantage (my 0.02) or gain a better attack on disadvantage. The new rule gets rid of that but doesn’t seem like an elegant solution. Why not pull 2 “stacks” when at advantage/disadvantage and the choice is based off the end result, same as if you pulled 2 cards only?
@@TheVlad1616 Ya I agree, Frosthaven is fixing some of this although I still think the new rules are too fiddly. the new perk system looks awesome though!
I played my first scenario with this character last week and I emptied the blessed and curses in my first two turns. Not a bad start. Really looking forward , I’m about to hit level 5. What do you think of the solo scenario item?
I did not like Sootsinger in 2 player party at all. Was struggling to survive long enough with 9 cards. Card Echoing Aria could be real fun with some other class, which uses retaliate. Imagine shielded enemies killing themselves on retaliates. Would like to see Sootsinger in party with Plagueherald. Having not enough curses available at some times :D
Echoing Aria is far better than you give it credit for. Maybe not ideal for 2p groups, but 3 or 4 it's almost overpowered. Health is a resource just like everything else and 2 damage for the cost of health is a good trade in many situations. You don't really need to "build around it," just have a melee class ally. Retaliate Damage against a 2 shield monster is effectively 4 damage and if they draw a curse, it's free. With good positioning, the ranged 2 retaliate also shines. At higher levels, it's easily accounting for 30-50+ damage every scenario, not counting the extra we would have needed to get through shields with attacks. Pairs extremely well with classes that increase in power at lower health or also loads curses into the monster deck. It's been deeply satisfying watching a room full of monsters kill themselves in a couple rounds while the players end up with barely a dent.
Bottomn of Defencive ditty only affects 1 aly for 1 attack. The way your saying defend your allies for a full turn is a bit misleading. Its actually not that powerfull. It there is a bunch of not to hard hitting enemies in the room i rather use the top
Come and watch me play Magic The Gathering: Arena!! The BEST decks to beat the meta!! ua-cam.com/channels/XFLYWi1sEIbgSb-kYvssJg.html

The summon idea is a good one, with the modifer deck of the Soothsinger it looks to be pretty neat!
I play this character today for the first time and see your video on the perfect moment.
Greetings from Canada!! So glad to hear they are helpful!
Disorienting Dirge is hands down the best Level 4 card in the game, and one of the best cards of all time.
Its pretty disgusting lol
It's one of the only level 2+ cards I've enhanced twice. It's truly disgusting. I stam it twice ASAP.
yup
Late to the channel, just unlocked today. Got to start at level 5. May rethink choices based off this video and restart a new soothsinger next time. Thanks for the content!
My friend just unlocked this class and I just unlocked the angry face so I can't wait to see how they both stack up during our next session!
oh my friend you are about to be overpowered lol
Just started playing this class. Which is funny because I just started Three Spears when you came out with that video lol
Thanks for the tips, loving the class so far! Level 5, Prosperity 5
Great timing! Enjoy!
Thanks for the input, definitely needed I'm only at level for soothsinger
No problem!
This class should've been called Emperor Palpatine "Unlimited Power!"
LOL totally calling it that from now on
Only situation I remember using Disarm Voice bottom was an escort mission where it was the only way I could spring the trap
Ya pretty fringe! Hey at least you used it once haha

Just started playing.. starting with jaws off the Lion… I wanna run this with red guard so bad…
Fun to be had!
Matching beat: The digital game allows you to control the summons you target freely. So not by the AI rules
What are your thoughts on new rule changes (to summons, rolling mods, etc) coming out?
I don't like the new advantage, because I just want it to be super simple for new players. the rest is good! they are making a lot of the right calls in my opinion. Going to start covering Frosthaven news as well so stay tuned

Do enemies use their attack deck or yours when performing the attack from shadow puppet?
They use the monster deck!

Always a longevity struggle with 9 cards for sure, especially when you have 9 cards
Defensive ditty top is better at low scenario levels and with tanky characters.
Fair enough!

if you watch a few of his guides you will immedeately recognize that he has not much grasp on how cards work if they get a little more complex
Bottomn of Defencive ditty only affects 1 aly for 1 attack. The way your saying defend your allies for a full turn is a bit misleading. Its actually not that powerfull. It there is a bunch of not to hard hitting enemies in the room i rather use the top
Maybe my language was sloppy but I definitely did not mean that it affects all of your allies!!
Yeah Soothsinger is ridiculously strong even when playing with two players
Can still be strong but definitely not as strong and you have to work at it a lot harder!
I’m patiently waiting to watch this vid, because 🎵 is the last class we that is locked for us 😢
Nice! Let me know when you do!
disorienting dirge top is far better than the bottom. sheesh...
