A lot of the material that's out there contains too much filler. I don't always want to watch a party of strangers role play for 3 hours. This gets to the point and is useful for me as a DM. It's well paced and the information is delivered clearly, and with great background image supplements. Excellent work. I hope that you produce similar videos for other adventure modules.

About to run a bunch of people from my work through this. We do occasional "game nights", usually bringing in consoles, or cards, to even going bowling (Best Buy is a pretty cool company to work for). Well D&D got brought up, and of course a bunch of people at work have now heard of it and want to try. Me being the only one who has books, plays weekly, and has DM'd a few short campaigns offered to take the reigns.
Haven't DM'd 5th ed (though I play it all the time), nor have I ever DM'd so many people (all of which are new). So I figured Phandelver would be a great start, plus it saves me a lot of leg work building an adventure. Especially since most of build up to game night is going to be making characters and teaching rules.
This guide will definitely help me a lot with actually setting up and running the adventure, so I thank you profusely.

I really appreciate the digestible format of this video for the adventure. I like to heavily modify some module adventures and intend to use this adventure as the bonding quest for a Descend into the Abyss campaign adventure module.
One thing I did was change the name of the Redbrands to Demon Rats. That is because several members are actually Wererats. (It's a way to mix up the adventure and to let me use a monster outside of dungeons and sewers).
Another idea I had was changing the Redbrands into the Crimson Vipers. It will turn out that Glass Staff is actually a Yuan-Ti pureblood agent attempting to find the forge then use it to construct magical weapons for his brethren. Since Yuan-Ti do not see cowardice as a trait of weakness. This would explain why he is so eager to lie and run away at the Redbrand Hideout.
I also added an Alchemist that is in the region searching for ingredients for improving his alchemist fire potion. It is so he can impress an Alchemist guild in Waterdeep and patent the improved formula to therefore sit on his mountain of gold and fame. (In his mind). After the party defeats the Demon Rats, the Alchemist sets up a carriage shop to sell elixirs to the residents. He'll also sell health potions to the party.
In still trying to come up with an explanation for all the undead in the adventure. It doesn't seem like there is a source of causing so much to appear in the adventure.
An idea I had is the Undertaker of the town of Phandalin discovered a key that opens a gateway to the Shadowfell. This was promptly closed quickly, but the rush of dark forces seeped and infested the ruins of the forge. Awakening the undead there. This what killed the Rockseeker brother, the Redbrands finding out the manor had an abundance of undead, and the ruins themselves.
The Undertaker is a weirdo and gives the key to whomever fulfills his quest to bodyguard him when he goes grocery shopping. (The key can only be used on a specific time).
If these players still wish to play together. I might use the key to set them up for a Curse of Strahd campaign.

New to D&D just bought the starter and essential
I get the gist of the gameplay but needed this to help me understand how to DM since all my friends are new like me

this is really helpful, in particular when your adventurers get to the town of Phandalin, i did a trial run before my first game and its a bit overwealming trying to guide players around the town, and try to give them control, not just reading all of the subtext

Cheers and keep up the great work, you smooth voiced bastard you 😉👌

I’ve got my first session with my friends on Sunday and none of us have played before! Im the DM. wish me luck everybody !! Happy adventuring! I do recommend to anyone who is looking at my situation and is intimidated to look at the crap guide to Dnd character sheet! That video prepared me to be a DM.

I have both played and DM'd Phandelver. I would love it if you made haste to provide a video like this for the Essentials Kit as I have a new group of friends that wanna play D&D. I expect this box will be great for the next new players needs and your videos have amazing purpose.

My first time playing was dm ing for dragon of icespire peak, from the essential kit. It's kinda hard to follow, it's like oh there's a dragon, but here's a quest board do that instead. My group has since left the town and are now exploring the ruins of leilon after doing a few random things. The dragon is still doing whatever because it didn't really do anything to make it feel like an urgent issue.

Waaaa thank you! I am a new DM, with a brand new group of players. I offered to be DM since while I have never played, I am the most experienced, having watched some campaigns before. As much as I am loving the idea, having to read the whole booklet while taking notes is soooooo boring and tiring, while this helps a lot. Now I just take notes while stopping. It did take more than expected (20 minutes for five minutes of video 💀), but it's much more dynamic and engaging for me (I have lots of trouble focusing), and the thought that all I will need to do is add a couple post it notes to fill in the gaps is amazing and makes it all less daunting

I’m about to try and dm for the first time and this will be what I’ll try to pitch to my normal party to dm for. It will be a side campaign for my normal party for when people can’t make it to give our normal dm a break. Thank you very much for helping make this seem manageable.
