Touch less snow is a completely different system to their other snowfoam. Touchless is to be used with touch-on ceramic shampoo. Touchless snowfoam can be used in varying amounts for how dirty the car is and the season. I use it always as a prewash. In the winter I use 350ml in a 1000ml bottle as that's what the PIR worked out to be. I use around 200ml in a 1000ml bottle in the summer or sometimes less as I'll generally take a view on what crud is stuck to the panels and adjust accordingly. Touch- less is is a more superior snowfoam that Bilt Hamber makes in my opinion. It just brakes down the dirt better and you can see the results in the foam on the floor. Just be sure to buy Touch-on sachets in conjunction with the Touch-less snowfoam for the whole system to work properly 👍

Pan. PIR. This is not a bilt Hamber issue. if you tell people to use a product in a lance given ratio. Eg 1 to 10. The PIR variance across all the different formats of pressure washer and lance combos is vast. And the effective variance in PIR could be huge. Eg 1to10 could mean 1%pir but it could also mean 0.3 PIR in another system. Therefore understanding PIR and how to calculate it. Is a basic thing but it's something people should know for their own benefit not just with BH products, you should think PIR, never lance ratio. It takes 1 minute to do it, you do it for your setup and then you know forever. You said in this video your example ratio 1to20 in the Lance. That typically yields about 0.35% PIR. When minimum PIR should be 2%. Typically 1to2 is a decent ratio for heavy cleaning with af and tl (to give rough idea only as ratio means huge potential variance). Your ratio would be very thin and low for example

Yeah I understand all of that Jon, and that’s great in theory, but I still think they would benefit from simplifying things as far as instructions are concerned. It’s not normal having to write such a long description to explain something that should be as simple to use as a snow foam. This isn’t rocket science here hehe. Again, that’s just my opinion. They are good products, but I just wish they were simpler to figure out. Having to measure a PIR for your specific setup, even if you only have to do it once, isn’t simple by any stretch of the imagination. I don’t think these are meant for the general public who doesn’t have as much detailing experience as you and I.
That being said, I hope you’ll have a great 2022 year and I wish you all the best! Perhaps we’ll see each other in person once again soon! ;)

The way Bilt Hamber explains dilutions for a snow foam (PIR) is absolutely correct.. It is completely wrong to give recommendations on dilutions in the actual container for foam cannon as there are 1000 different foam cannons on the market, high pressure washers, with different water volume out and pressure. So the only correct thing to recommend is to calculate the panel impact ratio, exactly Bilt Hamber does. BTW: Pan mixes Auto Foam completely wrong in this video as well. 1:20 in container for foam cannon is far too weak. And we see that in the film. The car is still very dirty after he dries it..

Agree. His ratio measure is both misleading to consumers and clearly far too weak after accounting for water through the cannon. I actually really appreciate Bilt Hamber giving very specific instructions on how to mix and achieve certain PIRs. I hate this world we live in where everything needs to be dumbed down to the dumbest person in the room. The instructions are super simple…shoot a full cannon of water into a container, when cannon is empty measure the total amount of liquid in container, then multiply that by the number they give you, that’s how much product you need to put into your cannon.
It’s simple, will tune the product ratios to every individual setup, and will save people wasting additional product for no reason, or using too little and not achieving desired results. What’s the issue here exactly?
I wish more companies were that exact, I actually hate some of these wishy-washy general, non-clear, instructions. Cause then you’re never sure if what you’re doing is achieving best possible results from the product, or you start over using and burning money.

    • @Svarg89
      @Svarg89 Рік тому

There are not many companies that provide PIR in their usage directions.
So I was wondering and can't really find any confirmation, but basically if there is no PIR guidance, you can still calculate how much product is needed for your own cannon, right?
Just figure out how much water it takes in total to empty your foam bottle and then use that total volume for more commonly used 1:X delution ratio, just keeping in mind that this is the ratio not for the foam bottle volume but for the total volume you figured out earlier.
      Am I right?

And the fact we use Liters and Mililitres here in the UK, and not Ounces and Gallons like Merica and Canada (apparently). And I totally agree with you. The more consise and detailed the instuctions are, the more likely I am to use the product. And it only ever has to be done once for your setup. The PIR is done once to your pressure washer setup. If you have a soap/chemichal dispenser on your PW it's usually a 1:20 dilution or 5%. The problems is when you uses ounches and gallons. So if you take the time it's pretty simple to be doing. For an example to do it quickly. Messure up 10 ounches in the foamcannon bottle. Empty it on the max chemichal mix on the foamcannon into a bucket. Messure the amount of water in the bucket in ounches (proberly spelling it wrong sorry) and the total amount times 0.04. The result is the amount of Auto-Foam or Touch-less you need in the foamcannon bottle for every 10 ounches. And you will only to be doing it once. You can messure up the water in the amount that you will usually be useing on your vehical. Messure the total amount and have a bucket with amount marks on it for even easier. You can do this test to the minimum setting on the chemichal setting as well. It's not hard to count out what your PW give your foamcannon dilution at the highest or the lowest setting this way. Then you can write this up and use to other chemichal for getting better dilution ratio from soaps and other APC or what you foam on your vehical.
Pro tips for BH Auto-Foam when it's winter months and very grimy conditions outside. Mix 50/50 with Auto-Foam and Surfex HD. Dial down from max chemichal setting to about a third part of the setting on the foamcannon. The cleaning ability is insane this way.
I live in Sweden and have washed vehicals that's dirtier than the car in the video. With the Auto-Foam to 4-5% PIR I don't have any visible dirt left. Sure there are grime left but it's things that you need to be handwash to get rid off.
But even with a very low dilution it shows it's capable cleaning ability in this video. Even if you where to fill the foamcannon bottle with 1:3 dilution on the max setting you will a highly jump in the cleaning ability. And still not be having it over the 4% PIR is my guess. Test it out on a winter dirty vehical. The downside with BH Auto-Foam is that's not so highly concentrated sadly. But for me it's worth it.
If you have a car available with wash marring. Test to wax it with Bilt Hamber Auto-Balm wax. It's the best wax that I have used that covers light scratches. Also a huge benefit is that this wax also have korrosion inhibitors in it. Say you have a lot of open and rusty rockchips. Take the rust of with Korrosol and apply Auto-Balm and you have them rust free after 3-5 months. Or wax the bare metal on the undercarrige and edges that's damaged on some cars. It prolong the time before you need to be doing something about it. And also don't need to be polishing and it still looks great before it wears off LOL

A little odd to read this - part Pan's post - on the other hand the fact that Bilt Hamber APPEARS to be new.
Bilt Hamber is "old school" for Europeans, as this brand has been around for years. Similar to Koch Chemie and Sonax. The bad thing is that these brands are only now becoming known across the ocean. I myself live in Belgium. Similar to the Sonax Perfect Finish that was well established, but unprecedented in the States.
BH positions itself among Koch Chemie, Nanolex, CarPro, Megs, etc. The quality is impeccable, and the price irresistible.
They don't make 885 products for every application, but what they have works great.

Hi Pan, greetings from England. Great video. I have been using all of the products that you featured for a couple of years and would highly recommend them all. It is not to difficult to work out the PIR ratios and you only need to do it once. Following this, I would recommend using a stronger ratio for the snow foams. For a dirty car, I use 300 ml in a 1 litre snow foam bottle to give a PIR of 4%. This ratio will leave a dirty car as featured here almost spotlessly clean, far cleaner than in the video. You also had concerns that these products could damage your LSP but I have had no issues with this.

That's really a lot of product though. I've been using it for a while, but it never wowed me yet. (I usually do a 1:10/100ml to 1000ml dilution)
Do you mind explaining how to calculate the PIR??

    • @markcraddock8983
      @markcraddock8983 2 роки тому +10

@@sebster6031 For a very dirty car, with my set up I use 300ml of product and 600ml water in the snow foam lance. This is a P.I.R. of 4% and the results are amazing. If I'm in a hurry I just snow foam, rinse and go with a car thats more than 97% clean.
To calculate PIR, fill your foam lance to your usual level with plain water. Using your pressure washer, spray into a bucket until the container is empty with the valve set for maximum soap. Then measure the contents of the bucket which will be the total amount of water that you would have put on the car. For a PIR of 4% multiply this quantity by 0.04 (for 2% multiply by 0.02 etc). The value that you get is then the amount of product that you need to put in your snow foam lance.
Therefore if say you have 9l of water in your bucket, multiply this by 0.04 and you get 360 ml. So to achieve a PIR of 4% you need to add 360 ml of soap to you snowfoam lance and top up with water.
There are videos on UA-cam if my explanation isn't clear. Good luck.

The AutoFoam can also be used in a pump sprayer which makes the dilution simple as there’s one ‘dilution event’.
If using a cannon, what BH say makes perfect sense as everybody has different pressure washer set ups which could massively impact how much of the product ultimately hits the car.
It takes two minutes. Sorry to my North American friends, done in litres as I don’t use ounces
Fill your Lance bottle with water, blast that into a bucket until it’s empty, see how many litres that is (helps if you have a bucket with markers in the inside), then times that by the strength you want, 1%, 2%, 4% or whatever which tells you how much AF to put in the lance bottle, then top up with water. Only have to do that once unless you change your pressure washer.
    For example,
I fill my Lance bottle with water
I spray into a bucket until the Lance bottle is empty
The bucket has 12 litres of water in it
    I want 2% mix
    12 x 0.02 = 240
I add 240ml of AF to the lance bottle and top up with water
    If in future I want a 4% solution, I double it to 480ml, if I want 1%, I halve it to 120ml.
My 1 litre bottle will do 2-3 cars and I usually use a PIR of 1 or 2% so, a 5 litre bottle of products lasts for ages and is fantastic value, even with shipping as I no longer live in the U.K.
It’s fantastic stuff, I wish I could buy it locally without having to pay a bit more for transport cost.

I watch lots of Johns videos on the Forensic Detailing channel here in the UK and he got me started on the BH journey with his passionate review of BH Auto Foam

I now have several of the BH products and use these ones regularly.
    - Auto Foam at 4% PIR. The calculation method is on the 5L BH bottle and it took me 5 mins to calculate for my foam cannon and pressure washer which I never need to do again. It works out as 500ml product and 500ml water for me.
    - Auto Wash at 5ml per 10L bucket for my contact wash
    - Surfex HD at 10 parts water to 1 part Surfex in the 'IK Foamer 2' for my tyres and wheels
    - Auto wheel for alloy wheel decontamination
    - Auto QD at 10 parts water to 1 part QD as a drying agent for a streak free finish
One BH product I'd like to see reviewed is their new 'Touch On' 30ml Crystalline hydrophobic treatment' for topping up your protection during the wash. Specifically how best to apply it quickly and effectively and its durability / hydrophobicity

I live in Scotland in the UK and Bilt Hamber is the best for all cleaning, it's reasonably cheap but high quality and is my go to for all cleaning purposes in my car. Also a product that Pan didn't include is touch on which is a ceramic based highly hydrophobic product that you can spray on your car with your snow cannon and simply rinse off and leaves a great finish. Especially during winter when you it's not so easy to apply a wee especially if you don't have a garage to work in. Great products.

Hello from Norway. Firstly I will tell you that I have used BH for many years. The very best there is! Surfex HD is absolutely my favorite for general cleaning.
For wheel cleaning I use corrosol because I have tried many other products but I mean there is nothing that beats corrosol.
Next some criticism... When applying the snow foam you diluted it way to much, and the dwell time was too short. Next I was really frustrated by the way you waved around with the pressure washing...You have to start from the bottom and work your way up in a precise pattern.
For washing the tires I use Surfex dilluted 1:10 and let it dwell for 5 minutes, the use a brush. After rinsing I will hit it again with Surfex, dwll time 3 min. And work the brush again. If the foam I create by brushing is brown, I will proseed until the foam is white. Then the rubber is super clean.
I never add water in the snow foam bottle, and therefore I get the rich foam using the Auto foam.
On extremely dirty work vehicles I also use neat SurfexHD in the foam cannon (This will not create rich foam) But the cleaning is outstanding! (Warm water will boost the effect of all Bilt Hamber products)
Of course I also use a Pertrocemical asphalt remower on the lower panels and the rear end on all vehicles I am washing, because her in Norway the roads i completely drowned in salt in the winter.

Surfex HD is an incredibly versatile product, at the right ratios it can be used everywhere! I would recommend it to anyone looking to get into detailing, as universal product.

When I read the instructions for diluting touch less, I definitely had to re-read once or twice. With that said, with your average pH neutral snow foam, manufacturers can afford to recommend a dilution ratio in your foam cannon, even if the actual dilution coming out of the tip varies based on your setup. The worse that will happen is you will have more or less foam coming out. With BH pre washes being pH 12 and 13 respectively, you have much less margin of error for your dilution. If the solution hitting your panel is too concentrated, you might actually be doing some damage and stripping away coatings. What I found is that using a foam cannon is pretty pointless for this pre-wash, as it is very thin and runny. I use it in a pump sprayer (the 6L ones with the wand attachment). Calculating the dilution becomes very easy, as you just fill with water, ex: 2L, and then, for a 4% PIR, you calculate 2000ml x 0.04 = 80ml of product. I just atomize the solution on the whole car and undercarriage, then rinse away. I use maybe 500 to 750 ml of solution per wash.

@@chrisryan8894 Definitely sounds very high, I use 4% PIR which equates to 400ml product in my snow foam cannon. I get probably 3 car washes and a few motorbikes from each 1litres mix in my snowfoam bottle. So at 4%PIR which cleans really well I get 40 car washes for 18 euro. So just under 50 cent for a very strong prewash for a filthy car. It works great at 2% or 1% with a little bit of surfex mixed in for cars that dont need a heavy clean too.

      @felipe_silve 2 роки тому +1

@@chrisryan8894 I use 500ml of solution per wash, not product (solution = the product + water) If we need 80ml of product for 2000ml of water, then for 500ml of solution, I am only using 80*500/2000 = 20ml of product per wash. 5000ml jug / 20ml = 250 washes. Hi Pan, in my pressure washer setup with my snow foam cannon I use the BH snowfoam undiluted and turn the knob to minimum amount of product. I have calculated this to be about 1.4% PIR.
Turning the knob more open for 2.5 revolutions gives me just about 4% PIR. This way I "refill" my snowfoam canon usually to about 200 ml of pure product which suffices to prewash several cars. On more heavily dirty cars I go to about 4%, on the cleaner cars I tend to the minimum PIR my canon gives me.

I use the wheel cleaner at a 3:1 dilution for general maintenance and find it’s still highly effective and of course even better value. Same goes for the korrosol, for maintenance purpose 2:1/3:1 it’s still very effective. I’ve tried tonnes of snow foams, and while some look more impressive due to as you say the “shaving foam” thickness, I’ve yet to find one that cleans as well as auto foam, which lets face it is the whole point of the pre wash!

Looks like with the pressure washer setup you are using the products at less than 1.5% PIR which hinders cleaning ability. Also you are meant to use Atom Mac on brake discs before you even start cleaning wheels, and then after if you so wish.

Hey Pan I have used BH products for age’s now. With regards to the dilution ratio’s. The only difficult one to workout is the autofoam or touchless. The real key thing is to work out the PIR of your pressure washer. This is the really important part , once you have that worked out it’s easy. There is actually a method/ process that you can carry out ( i have the instructions if you are interested?) once worked out you can put neat ( yes neat) Autofoam in the lance bottle.

      1. Screw the lance dial clockwise fully until it
stops, then unscrew it 2 full turns.
      2. Using a measuring jug fill the lance with
      exactly 600ml of water.
      3. Discharge the lance into a bucket until the
      bucket contains exactly 10ltrs.
      4. Measure the remaining amount of water left
in the lance. You want it to have drawn out
400ml so you're wanting it to have 200ml left
      over.
      5. If you've got less than 200ml left, the draw
rate is too high so unscrew it anticlockwise by
1/2 a turn and repeat steps 2-4. If you've got
more than 200ml left, the draw rate is too low
so screw it in clockwise by 1/2 a turn and
      repeat steps 2-4.
      6. Once you have exactly 200ml left, this
means your lance is discharging 400ml of
product per 10ltr = 4% PIR. You can now just
fill it with neat AF with no pre-dilution
      required.

    • @79blustone
      @79blustone 2 роки тому

You won't need an apc pre rinse. Just apply Touch-less snow foam to a dry car, you'll only dilute the foam if you prewash it and make the cleaning powder less effective. Use their car shampoo to get the harder stuff off then use touch-on shampoo as LSP and check out the extreme hydrophobic properties its has. All of BH products are highly condensed, you'll have you use another container to store products in whilst you water them down to fulfill a specific need. Such as their apc, fallour remover, xar car wash shampoo is around 10p per wash! And their detailing spray has different uses has different applications and results depending on what you do with it. I.e mix 70:30 with water and you'll get deep lustre shine, mix it 30:70 you'll get a clay bar lube, 40:60 and a drying aid and so forth. Its so cheap and so powerful designed by chemical engineers who have been around since the 1960s. They are all a committed brand to be as ethical a d environment focused as possible. I really should like to gain employment from them as I strongly believe in the brand. Recommend mixing their products with deionised water 👍

    Pan,
great to see you trying out BH. I have switched to using their products now a lot in several categories. Of course I too was influnced by John's enthusiastic praise for these products (backed up by the rigorous testing).
Surfex HD 1:20 for pre treatment on the front and sides of the car, including the wheels. I have yet to try to see how efficient it is against bugs, as it is now winter. I spray it, let it dwell, meanwhile I prepare the foam and then cover the whole car with it.
Auto-foam, I use 1:9, it seems it works. I was too lazy measuring the precise mixing ratio of my cannon.
Auto-wash, 1:1000 seems to be the right ratio for me, as 1:2000 looked rather thin to me. It still gives me around 30 washes from a 500 mL bottle.
I have yet to try BH quick detailer.
What makes BH different and I think was not mentioned in the video is the fact that they not only do detailing products. They make products for all around care for your vehicle - undercarriage waxes, protective coatings, paints, rust converters and so on. In my eyes that makes BH sort of "real car enthusiast's" choice. You have to be quite determined to regularly look at your car from underneath haha.
Thank you for the vid, cheers

I did the set up initially using a Karcher K4 with the original hose and it took 11 litres of water to empty the foam cannon. Later, I changed to a much more user-friendly after-market hose on the Karcher, and the cannon emptied after just 9 litres. So the dilution ratio can be affected by the equipment used.

Hello Pan, I know this video was only about actual cleaning, but I use the BH QD diluted about 1:10. Once the car is dry use really sparingly and it just gives the paint that little extra top up of sparkle.
Also rate the double speed wax.

BH do excellent chemisty, good to see them expanding their customer base and I am sure they will be pleased you featured them. I use a lot of their anti corrison products; Atom Mac is good for spraying on the brake disks after a wash. I also spray on screws in the wheel arch liners, bolts in the engine bay as well as the exhaust during the winter months. For any surface rust that appears on the suspension components I have used Hydrate 80 before coating with Epoxy Mastic, which once dried can be washed. I usually have to top spots up every 16 months or so which usually come from the welds on the rear axle. Once a year I remove the wheels, clean up and coat the painted areas of the wheel arches with Dynax UC. I also use this stuff on the jacking points where the factory anti corrison foam has worn off over the years. BH do more products which might be of interest depending on the make and model of your vehicle. Fortunetley for me Audi has decent rust protection out of the box. If I owned a vehicle with just painted areas exposed underneath I would coat it with Dynax UB and spray Dynax S50 into any cavities. Ideally you would want to do this when the vehicle was new.
If you just wanted to keep it simple I would highly reccomend Atom Mac if you live in an area with harsh winters. It is very user friendly and you could get away with just diluting this stuff at 3% in one of those lance pump sprayers that gardeners use for spraying on weeds. Spraying this underneath your car once a week should keep it tidy.

Could you please review the 3 claybars from Bilt Hamber, I know John has great reviews of them and It would be awesome to see what you say about them and your recommendations on when to used the different level of abrasiveness. One of the first and few brands that said to use water as the clay lube in its directions. Also they have like with most their products a great price and awesome packaging for their clay.

AutoFoam 5% PIR for Winter use. 2-3% for Summer use. Touch-Less I use in summertime only 3%. For the surfexHD I use 1:20 as an APC. 1:10 or even 1:5 for wheels.

Strongly agree that the BH pre-wash products are less foamy/satisfying or ‘retail friendly’ compared to the big brands but when I try anything else I am left disappointed. One of the very few products that can actually remove road film.

I found it interesting on forensic detail channel that Surfex HD never loses a degrease cleaning comparison. Very impressive when others are very good quality in the comparison like Green Star. Would adding either of these to a Neutral snow foam up the PH in a similar fashion as using auto foam or touchless?

Hi Pan. Amazingly comprehensive video. It certainly made the Bilt Hammer fans happy as evidenced by the comments. Although I minored in Economics/Statistics, I can already see that the instructions and dilution ratios are a barrier for me. But I’m going to watch the vid again to see which of these products makes sense for me.

So from many example PIR calculations, it looks like the Auto Foam is much closer to a 3:1 - 1:1 ratios (Roughly 330ml - 500ml of product in a 1L foam cannon) not the much larger ratio amounts that Pan has suggested. This greatly reduces the amount of uses per 5L container but still seems reasonable since its not always an everyday use item. Quality over quantity item.

    • @Roughdraft214
      @Roughdraft214 Рік тому

Yeah that’s what I calculated. So considering that if you were to use other products at 3:1 the cleaning power would drastically increase wouldn’t it? I don’t know how safe that is to use, if BH stands out because they can be used at such high ratios but knowing that I have to use a lot more product than I do with other brands, I’ll try them but I tend to be price conscious as well, personally.

Yes this was just an introductory video the BH lineup. I did the proper calculations with my pressure washer and foam cannon setup to get 5% PIR, and I have to use 345ml of snow foam and 255ml of water in my MJJC Foam Cannon Pro, as I use a Kranzle 1122TST pressure washer which pumps out a stout 2.1GPM of water.

Bilt Hamber has a bunch of anti-corrosion products (Dynax-UB, Atom Mac, Deox C, etc.) that make them unique in the industry. I think it would be very new and special to go in depth in one video or many videos on these types of products since so many older and neglected cars have rust that needs removed and prevented. I’d love to learn this.
