If you consistently have a problem burning up your throw out and pilot bearings. Change the clutch/shifter fork. Good chance if its stock then its probably bent. Even if its bent the slightest fraction it will basically cause both bearings to not fully release during engagement and disengagement. Even though the car will move and drive normally you will constantly have that problem
83. Mustang with a 5.0 5 speed. I replaced my clutch with a stage one that came with the pilot, bearing and throw out bearing. And I even replaced the cable and installed in aluminum quadrant with a firewall adjuster. Now mine does make a little bit of noise when you release the clutch. I’m hoping that I just need to make a little more adjustment with the cable to fix the noise
I so feel your pain in this video. I have a manual FG III Ford XR6 ute (I live in Australia) and I thought it had a bad noise from the get go; turns out it's just the turnover noise that the TR6060 transmission makes. Soon after that, my car started struggling with hill starts and even basic take-offs, making a clunking noise which became faster and faster under acceleration until you could barely hear it from inside the car. Turned out to be the drive shaft centre bearing lmao. We believe the previous owner (I bought at 72,000km odo) might have had some fun in her before wearing the car in well enough, so to speak. On another note, I hate how pricey cars can be when things go wrong. My two previous cars; a 2004 Suzuki Jimny 1.6L and a 2004 Ford Courier/Mazda B2500 2.5L both cost me the literal scrapings of whatever remains of Fafnir's stolen treasure *(norse myth moguls wya)* because I regret spending so much to fix them, even though I loved them. The B2500 (diesel) even ended up completely ceasing its engine due to bent conrods among other things! Cars are an expensive hobby but at the end of the day we all need to have each others' backs and comfort each other when our precious vehicles are having troubles, as they do. It does my head in when people go on about fixing E V E R Y T H I N G yourself. That is SO much time wasted that could be spent working to fund having fun with your car! Having a reliable, car-smart mechanic is not a bad thing and don't let anyone ever tell you it is. Lots of love from Aus :))
@@mewgag4591 it was actually the entire clutch for me, didn’t replace the throw out bearing bc we forgot, still makes a noise but pretty quiet. i’d say replace the entire clutch and the throw out bearing and make sure to check the slave cylinder inside the transmission.
I have a 96 also does yours ever grind when you put it in second really quick when you step on it? It doesn’t do it for my dad only for me ans I’m curious what I’m doing wrong
First off, it's common when you have a manual, to replace the throw out bearing as regular maintenance. There's a reason the clutch kits come with, I repeat, come with, the throw out and pilot bearing. The throw out bearing spins with the input shaft and contacts abrasive metal flat springs to disengage while moving and in gear. Throw out bearing replacement is the easiest replacement of the clutch maintenance process though, remove old one, grease the fork, and any other contact points, then slide back onto the shaft. Easy, and ever clutch kit I've ever gotten, always comes with this AND the pilot bushing. good call on the noise.
Thnx for sharing this with us. I am experience a familiar noise with a megane coupe. The sound comes and goes and it doesn't matter if the car is in gear or not. As you speed the noise becomes more present. The noise is like the noise when you release the clutch pedal too early while the transmission is not fully engaged in gear. I am not certain though whether it's a clutch problem or something else like a transmission bearing?
Thanks man, I’m experiencing the same noise, 05 Mustang GT, my mechanic is charging $110/hr @ 7 hrs plus $494 clutch kit/throw out bearing, $194 flywheel , $41.99 rear main seals total just under $1500 😮
@@2011italianoboy TOB very likely.Mine made the same noise one night,a month later after I pulled the tranny the TOB was shot as was my clutch fork and pivot stud.

Could be the springs in the clutch disk loose and sometimes sitting in there flopping around done a few when I took the presure plate off the springs from the clutch disk just falls off
Thank you for this video man . I appreciate & it helped me know what to buy when buying a clutch kit . My mitsubish eclipse is making a very similiar sound and I am looking to replace my clutch . Thanks again .
Hey so I’m having an issue. This how I diagnose. If you start the car and have it in neutral, then push clutch in. If you hear noise as clutch is in then it is your throw out/release bearing. If you don’t hear noise when clutch is pushed out but once you release the clutch pedal and it continues to make a weird grinding noise then it’s your pilot bearing. If you hear noise as you are releasing the clutch but it goes away once clutch is fully out then it is an annoying input shaft bearing. It’s harder to get to.
Great video. I know it’s been a few years since you made this video. Hopefully you are still around and can respond. I have a 2015 mustang Gt 5.0 6sp performance pack car with 63 thousand miles. Same noise as in your video. When my clutch is pressed in the noise goes away. A transmission place that installed my current clutch in 11/22 said I need a new transmission. i needed a replacement clutch so i also went with the stage 1 exedy brand. during my research its safe to say dont use the throwout bearing that it comes with.
why is that... i have one in mine with 1500 km and it is making this noise... except you can hear abit more grinding so i was thinking it was the input shaft going into a shop in a couple days so i will know for sure

Mine is like a small ticking noise when im letting out the clutch i can hear it pretty well when I’m against a wall, but after the initial moving it goes away what could that be?
My throw out bearing split into two pieces. The pilot bearing wore out, and I guess the vibration split the throw out bearing. I replaced the pilot bearing with a needle bearing instead of the copper bearing. It worked like a charm.
Did you fix the problem? Mines just started doing this only in first gear then it stopped then it did it agin, if you did fix it what have you done? Thanks

I was driving to work yesterday and lost all ability to shift. When I pushed the clutch in and took it out of 4th I could not get it to go into 5th. I pulled over and it would not go into any gear. The engine runs but I have a sound alot like this. The car will let me put it in gear while it is off and even start it but won't let me do anything if the car is running.
My 03 GT just had this issue lately until today, it started squealing super loud, I couldn’t get it into gear without forcing it a ton, just dropped it off at the mechanic today, hope it’s not tooo expensive…
Hey I have a 2006 Nissan 350z 6 speed manual and when I purchased the car, this noise wasn't there! Whenever I turn my car off with my foot pressed all the way down on the clutch it doesn't make any noise but when I turn off my car without engaging my clutch at all(of course it's in neutral) it makes this really loud rattling noise! Any ideas? Please help, I'm really concerned about my clutch!
Did this fix yours? I have a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse and it was diagnosed that it was the clutch release bearing. I got a whole clutch kit got it put in, and the car is still making the noise...?
i have the same problem in my celica its not a throw out bearing or pilot bearing so i have to bring it into a shop and get them to replace my input bearing in my transmission the noise almost completely goes away when clutch is enganged but not completely and it kind of sounds like something is grinding inside thats your flywheel rubbing against something
bought mine a month ago with it doing it have parked it since or it could be as simple as a loose pressure plate if you havent been in there yet which im hoping thats my case
I have 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse too and I think I have the same problem as you each time I press the clutch it makes this sound but I'm not sure if I need the whole kit or if is one specific part. Did you ever figure out what your was?
Thank you man you halped me alot my bmw started making that noise and I thought something inside the engine broke but my clutch started going and now it's totally fuck so I'm replacing it👍
if your mechanic is doing it for that cheap he must be a really good friend I just pulled the transmission out of my 1990 Toyota Supra and it was a pain in the ass
Front wheel and all wheel drives are a pain to do rear wheel drive are way more simple to do my 05 mustang cost me 780 bucks to do half of that was the clutch kit and I live near California's eastern boarder so prices are higher than the Midwest
Mine rattled a bit off the clutch typical throw out bearing noise I was told it was normal on these years. Mine doesn’t sound like that but I push my clutch in and it does go away
There is no normal rattle noise on stangs. Sounds like your throwout bearing. I’ve had my 03 stang 8 years Manual trans. Finally swapping it out. My shit was toast haha if you haven’t fixed it yet get Ford racing brand for both bearings(throwout bearing and pilot bearing) don’t forget to resurface/cut your flywheel or buy a new one. Check the clutch fork too and if the two fingers/springs are worn, replace with a ford one OEM quality or better. Good luck!
Throw out bearing makes noise with clutch in when you push the clutch in and the sound goes away and then release it and the noise comes back I guarantee you that its going to be your input shaft bearing going out not throw out bearing or pilot bearing when you replace the input shaft bearing you should always replace the pilot bearing because of shaft play wearing the pilot out
if it was the input shaft bearing you would hear it when in gear. Yet nothing is there when the clutch isn't pushed in. So this simply cannot be the input bearing.
Throw out bearing is completely gone out , you have to remove the transmission clutch bell housing area is where these throw out bearings lay it sounds like one of those has gone out
Sammy Sheffield not throwout bearing. It's the input shaft bearing. Throwout bearing makes noise when the clutch is pushed in. Input shaft bearing makes noise when clutch is out and goes away when clutch is in
I just jad same problem.. But i just change to all new clutch set include throw out bearing. Still sound although not loud, but the tork are so high i can even launch in 3rd gear.
Have slightly the same problem with my 2000 Ranger. Has been making that sound for just a second or two when letting off the clutch in various gears. Been going on for about a year and a half now so I'm not rushing to get it fixed if it's not totally broken yet. Am I wrong not to? Somebody get back to me.
If it's a boat motor noise then it's just a misalignment between Flywheel and a clutch disk And then your clutch disk will probably only last couple of years
I would put the clutch in and it start squeaking Loud when it's in but when I release the clutch it's really not that loud but you could still hear it anyone else ? The gears don't grind or anything like that it's only the clutch when I press it
+Daniel R. Dang that sucks dude. I just received all the parts for the clutch kit but I don't have the tools to drop the transmission and fit it myself. I have to take it to a shop. Eventually I plan to have enough tools to work on my own cars
Bro I need help!! I have an '11 5.0. When I turn the car on when it's cold or if it's been sitting for a while, I hear a loud screeching sound after I press the clutch to turn the car on. Also, when I shift into any gear passed 2nd I feel like the car isn't as responsive as it used to be when I first got it. Do you think it could be the clutch or throw out bearing? Mines kind of made the same sound as yours
I was driving, felt a pop when i press down on pedal trying to shift, it was loose ,i had no pressure it got stucknin neutral,,a nice man pushed my car off busy highway ,,
Had this same noise, I mean exactly the same, replaced clutch and all bearings and still had to noise, was getting scared at this point and shopping for a transmission. My buddy suggested pulling the starter and push starting it. Just to see. Starter. This entire time it was my starter. Hope this helps someone.
If your car is turning in it’s own you should prolly get an alignment and it that doesn’t work you prolly have some suspension damage. And you should be able to see an engine rattling visually if it had bad mounts or something
@@jordanw4710 it stays on now but it sounds like an earthquake, my engine is definitely shaking, but so is my muffler cause it's cut off midways under the car so you can see it shake
Da One Da One turning off on its own when driving 5mph+? That sounds like an alternator diodes problem (aka just the alternator; I was being specific). Sounds like an earthquake? That sounds like a really bad misfire or like the other dude said bad motor mounts. Best way to check mounts ONLY if it’s automatic then turn car on. Put hand brake up really good. Stomp and hold the brake AT ALL TIMES and give it a quick medium blip/in-out push of the accelerator while having someone check the motor and if it leans to one side or shakes back and forth then your mounts are torn/bad. Other way to check it lift the car, lower on jackstands, jack the motor up with a piece of wood underneath the oil pan about 1/8” of an inch (you’re not lifting the car off the stands just relieving some tiny amount of weight) grab a long pry bar and pry at the mounts. If they move a lot then it’s bad. It should have a very very very small amount of movement but it’s supposed to be stiff. Also u can check them visually for the rubber and see if they’re torn or pieces are missing. If you turn your car on st the very beginning and it shakes violently then that’s another indication it’s the mounts Misfire it could be spark plugs, coil pack, massairflow sensor, oxygen sensors, low compression, lots of shit but that’s all I can think of off the top of my head... take it to O’Riellys and have the alternator checked out under load,, with the car running at idle ask for the voltage test it should be between 13.5-14.5 volts
I have added a brand new clutch in it with all 3 parts but mine only makes the sound after driving for a while and around 4-6000 ish RPM's whenever i feel like dragging on a empty long street Whenever i push the clutch for like 1mm it stops completly not even the noice after you press the clutch as you have here and i just replaced everything and centered it with a tool and it has been working good for 2 weeks now but it starts to make almost the same sound Could it be the damn flywheel? :/ i hate to freaking pull everything off again as i already had to break bank when replacing my clutch :(
I just put a new clutch kit on about 4 months ago, and now my clutch is squealing whenever I step on the pedal. It kind of sound like worn-out brake pads. I have no idea what's going on
did you ever figure out what it was? mine started doing it yesterday even though i replaced the clutch, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, resurfaced flywheel, greased and torqued things down properly about a year ago. praying it is the cable wearing out
Every time check dealer parts department first. Me and my brother were working on 2nd gen Toyota Supra with bad clutch, I ordered one from NAPA $318 , but asked my brother to call the Toy dealer to find out what's the price on OEM Toyota clutch, Surprise $180+ tax, so I cancelled the NAPA order an got the OEM clutch kit $100 cheaper. Check diller and online deals first.
I drive a bullitt mustang I had my clutch n flywheel replaced and I paid more than 400 for a clutch n like 3oo for the flywheel n the throw out bearing all nice n new n my car does horrible dragging noise like grinding noise I but it does engage good but noise is annoying
Esteban Fragoza same mine makes like a weird rattling/grinding noise at like 2k and up and when I exceed like 3500 and 4k I get what sounds like a belt squeal which I'd assume is my clutch slipping
Me too, exactly. I almost think the clutch cable itself is just a little loose. When i push the clutch pedal in maybe an inch, the rattle stops completely
It's your throw out bearing needing replaced more than likely. I had a loud constant chirp on my car when the clutch pedal was disengaged and then you push the pedal in and it stops. Low and behold we got a new throw out bearing put in it and the noise was no longer a thing.

I'm under the powertrain warranty and I don't know if it can be easy D.I.Y. or take it to the dealership and see if I can get it new clutch etc. Would the Clutch be apart of the (Powertrain warranty) Any info on this be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading this and your thoughts and opinions?
My toyota celica is making kinda same noise im confused might be wheel bearing or clutch
I have a 2002 chevy silverado v6 and it won't shift when it does shift it makes a grinding noise but it will only shift to first gear
This happen to me last year. It started with my TOB going bad, then eventually destroying the sleeve on my casing. Not a cheap repair.
Update: The problem was what I thought it was, Throwout bearing. Just decided to get the whole clutch replaced
@@Mustangkev918 thanks for update how much did it cost
@@FlashStashh total was like $700
Mine has vague knocking rn, when I enable the clutch it disappears just like yours.
Did your shifter rattle as well?
im also havin the same thing is there any update of this did you fix it whats the cause of it you found out after you open up ur transmission?
Hey I have a 2006 Nissan 350z 6 speed manual and when I purchased the car, this noise wasn't there! Whenever I turn my car off with my foot pressed all the way down on the clutch it doesn't make any noise but when I turn off my car without engaging my clutch at all(of course it's in neutral) it makes this really loud rattling noise! Any ideas? Please help, I'm really concerned about my clutch!
Was your flywheel okay?
I have a slight hissing sound when I release my new car's clutch in neutral. It is like it engages with something. Is it normal?
Did this fix yours? I have a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse and it was diagnosed that it was the clutch release bearing. I got a whole clutch kit got it put in, and the car is still making the noise...?
i have the same problem in my celica its not a throw out bearing or pilot bearing so i have to bring it into a shop and get them to replace my input bearing in my transmission the noise almost completely goes away when clutch is enganged but not completely and it kind of sounds like something is grinding inside thats your flywheel rubbing against something
Robert Shingler glad to know I'm not the only one with the car doing this!
bought mine a month ago with it doing it have parked it since or it could be as simple as a loose pressure plate if you havent been in there yet which im hoping thats my case
DDTS Games I got the same problem on my Subaru Outback rn
I have 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse too and I think I have the same problem as you each time I press the clutch it makes this sound but I'm not sure if I need the whole kit or if is one specific part. Did you ever figure out what your was?
I have a 88 gt and it does it when the clutch is pressed in push a little it stop all the way then the noise come back
So was shifting affected at all? Harder to get out of gear when going to downshift?
Also what was it? Pilot?
My honda does the same thing but opposite it makes the rattle noice when i engage it and when it disengaged then it sounds normal any help?
Thanks for the help. I have the exact same noises coming from the T5 in my Monster Miata.
Thanks for your video, helps me a lot..
throwout barring! I'm dealing with the same issue with my 94 GT.
+1sik sn95 I heard you can still drive with it for a while, it's just the noise that sucks
Gspeed 23109 is that true?
Yea
Gspeed 23109 how much did it cost replacing the throw out bearing cuz I think my throw out bearing went out
Sinatra any update on this
Mine rattled a bit off the clutch typical throw out bearing noise I was told it was normal on these years.
Good luck!
Do it do it all the time with the clutch out or every once in a while?
Throw out bearing makes noise with clutch in when you push the clutch in and the sound goes away and then release it and the noise comes back I guarantee you that its going to be your input shaft bearing going out not throw out bearing or pilot bearing when you replace the input shaft bearing you should always replace the pilot bearing because of shaft play wearing the pilot out
if it was the input shaft bearing you would hear it when in gear. Yet nothing is there when the clutch isn't pushed in. So this simply cannot be the input bearing.
thanks for the video bro..really helpful
Throw out bearing is completely gone out , you have to remove the transmission clutch bell housing area is where these throw out bearings lay it sounds like one of those has gone out
Yer got simaler noise. Goin to mechanics hope it is clucth bearing. Cos gearbox seems fine n so does diff. Thanx
My 2000 ford ranger 3.0 make a noise only when going up a hill or when its cold but goes in gear fine
when I accelerate I have a high pitched noise coming from my clutch and when I press the clutch it stops. any ideas?
+Sammy Sheffield for sure the throw out bearing!!
same page
If it's a boat motor noise then it's just a misalignment between Flywheel and a clutch disk And then your clutch disk will probably only last couple of years
My 1995 stang does the SAME thing :(
Sell that pos
so does my 74 bug
I would put the clutch in and it start squeaking Loud when it's in but when I release the clutch it's really not that loud but you could still hear it anyone else ? The gears don't grind or anything like that it's only the clutch when I press it
250 is a steal for the work. Online quotes are over 1k.
Exactly, just had a whole kit installed on my v6 06 and about 1200 parts n labor,, hope I didn't get screwed.
I’m about to buy an 04 the noise isn’t that bad it’s more high pitched and doesn’t change when I push the clutch in
Same thing happened to me but I kept driving it and the bearing broke into 2 and wouldn't go into gear anymore, you should make a how to fix it video
+Daniel R. Dang that sucks dude. I just received all the parts for the clutch kit but I don't have the tools to drop the transmission and fit it myself. I have to take it to a shop. Eventually I plan to have enough tools to work on my own cars
Daniel R. so did u find out what was the problem
That’s a great price man.
Kevin Dean definantly sounds like throw out beaeing
Can you still drive it tho ?
I was driving, felt a pop when i press down on pedal trying to shift, it was loose ,i had no pressure it got stucknin neutral,,a nice man pushed my car off busy highway ,,
I have a question bro! After you change the clutch kit. The problem got solved ?
Had this same noise, I mean exactly the same, replaced clutch and all bearings and still had to noise, was getting scared at this point and shopping for a transmission. My buddy suggested pulling the starter and push starting it. Just to see. Starter. This entire time it was my starter. Hope this helps someone.
What a bout if my car starts turning off on its own ? Plus idk if it's the engine rattling or the muffler?
Dawg said my motors done but idk
If you turn your car on st the very beginning and it shakes violently then that’s another indication it’s the mounts
Misfire it could be spark plugs, coil pack, massairflow sensor, oxygen sensors, low compression, lots of shit but that’s all I can think of off the top of my head... take it to O’Riellys and have the alternator checked out under load,, with the car running at idle ask for the voltage test it should be between 13.5-14.5 volts
Sorry I meant hand brake/e-brake off not on lol Brain fart
I have added a brand new clutch in it with all 3 parts but mine only makes the sound after driving for a while and around 4-6000 ish RPM's whenever i feel like dragging on a empty long street
Whenever i push the clutch for like 1mm it stops completly not even the noice after you press the clutch as you have here and i just replaced everything and centered it with a tool and it has been working good for 2 weeks now but it starts to make almost the same sound
Could it be the damn flywheel? :/ i hate to freaking pull everything off again as i already had to break bank when replacing my clutch :(
TheJackalPhantom maybe the input shaft bearing
I just put a new clutch kit on about 4 months ago, and now my clutch is squealing whenever I step on the pedal. It kind of sound like worn-out brake pads. I have no idea what's going on
did you ever figure out what it was? mine started doing it yesterday even though i replaced the clutch, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, resurfaced flywheel, greased and torqued things down properly about a year ago. praying it is the cable wearing out
when you had this problem could you feel a vibration in the steering wheel?
+Bradley Pfeffer no, nothing was wrong with the steering wheel
My man what clutch kit did you find for 200!?
Buying one tomorrow with a bad throw out bearing
mines about the same make noise when u let go clutch and when u step on it no noise....not just that can't get into gears
know this is old but has happened to me. how much did a shop charge you?
Did you replace your flywheel when you changed your clutch or did you just have your old flywheel cut down
Ben S cut or refinished why?
While you're at it inspect the pivot ball, rear main seal and clutch fork or better replace it just to be sure.
Check the throw out bearing or roller bearings whn its wines that means it worn out
Every time check dealer parts department first.
Like 2000 rpm makes a weird grinding noise?
+Esteban Fragoza ph now this I have no idea bro.
Esteban Fragoza same mine makes like a weird rattling/grinding noise at like 2k and up and when I exceed like 3500 and 4k I get what sounds like a belt squeal which I'd assume is my clutch slipping
That’s sick. Only noise I have is chirping when clutch is out.
Me too, exactly. I almost think the clutch cable itself is just a little loose.
When i push the clutch pedal in maybe an inch, the rattle stops completely
@@Turismo860 Same here! I think mine is just worn out, I learned stick in it so I wouldn't doubt it. Time for a new clutch!
@@glo_mighty5018 chrisfix has a pretty in depth video about pulling the trans on an sn95 that i might use to rip mine out soon lol.
It's your throw out bearing needing replaced more than likely. I had a loud constant chirp on my car when the clutch pedal was disengaged and then you push the pedal in and it stops. Low and behold we got a new throw out bearing put in it and the noise was no longer a thing.
@@recklessriley6 yup! Needed a new clutch kit!
