Absolutely it was a fine moment in a band that penetrated it’s fans soooooo deeply.i played in open tunings for years . I had to finally learn standard. I cinstantly reference Lee and Thurstons sense of play when I do my thing . And to watch these artists blaze their truley amazing artistic arc over the years. We are so lucky to have the catalog of work . They should be in rock and roll hall of fame. I voted for them when I visited that miserable place last year. And I don’t mean to exclude Kim’s awesome stylized heartbreaking lyrical and conversely guttural and in this sort of spit punk conversational style. And Steve Shelly is the drummer all my cool friends want to be like. Damn he is a freakin thunderstorm of expression and hella dynamic. You rock Steve !
Great song! That reminds me poetry of Shel Silvershtein. “She had blue skin, And so did he. He kept it hid And so did she. They searched for blue Their whole life through, Then passed right by- And never knew.”
Dead boy stares Strange to meet you Dead boy cares So great to see you Is it time to go It's a place I know I can't read your mind I can't find the time I can't feel the thrill I don't have the will Dead boy dares Believe in you Dead boy stares Afraid that you will see him Is it time to go Is it a place I know I can't read your mind I can't find the time I can't feel the thrill I don't have the will I love you A metallic blue I love you Golden blue I miss you Shine all alone I miss you Don't know what to do I don't glitter like the stars above I don't glow like neon alone Don't blush it's just the wind outside Don't rush to be by my side
This song reminds me of PTSD and the long term affects it has on a person. When I was going through it nobody knew until almost 3 months after, during the summer I went to a beach in Alabama in a place called Morgantown and I just listened to the tides of the water which always calmed me down and the overhead moon, it felt so good to get away from the bad memories for a while but it sprung back up again when I came back and even worse than before. I had no will to do anything and spent most days sleeping afterwards, I could never tell what others thought of me afterwards but I came to find out a lot of things soon after it happened and it changed a lot for me. The part where they talk about a dead boy also hits home because that’s how I felt, like a dead boy and invisible, I didn’t mind being invisible or dead but it was like grieving for yourself at a funeral only attended by you and you’re just looking down at your cold, withered corpse that’s almost unrecognizable now. For the longest time after that I just wanted to be hidden forever and that feeling has remained but more shallow. I eventually found solace in my situation despite having few people to support me during my time of need. I’m glad I got help eventually and that what happened is in the past but of course the memories still linger on and the fear and terror I felt around these people that I still have to see regularly has since faded and I’m surrounded by loving and caring people who want to see me excel.
@@SneedyKetler Cross the Breeze, The Sprawl, and Tunic (Song for Karen) are the obvious highlights, some of the best tunes they’ve got, but honestly you can just pick a Kim song at random and assume it’ll be great. More examples of great Kim songs include Making The Nature Scene, Brother James, Shadow of a Doubt, Secret Girl, Beauty Lies in the Eye, Kissability, Kool Thing, Cinderella’s Big Score, Swimsuit Issue, Drunken Butterfly, Orange Rolls Angel’s Spit, On The Strip, JC, Crème Brulee, Bull in the Heather, Sweet Shine, Becuz, Washing Machine, Pattern Recognition, Kim Gordon and the Arthur Doyle Hand Cream, Dude Ranch Nurse. Plenty more from the albums I’m not as familiar with. Kim and Thurston probably have an equal number of great songs, but since Kim doesn’t have as many overall her stuff is more consistent. Lee gets like one song an album but it’s usually a really really good one.
@@Chris-mc2dt I agree with you. Also appreciate you detailing specific song references bc a lot of those I hadn't heard yet so it's nice to explore favourites by others I could've missed
Sonic Youth will forever be my favorite band and I love you golden blue my favorite song in the fucking world. There's no words to describe how much I love this...
Search for a hobby, talk to people. Find peace, find friendships. I have been left alone a few days ago, took some bad decisions. Don't be like me. I don't have any hope of redemption, but you probably have. Don't give up
It's the song bro. I never listened to it, and I am happily married lol. But good song, regardless. Sonic youth is just this band I missed. Like Coil, The Smiths, Primus, etc. Sounds very good tho, esp love the desolate and dissonant parts.
dead boy dare believe in you... Don't know what to do I don't glitter like the stars above I don't glow like neon alone Don't blush it's just the wind outside Don't rush to be by my side Sonic is bigger!.....
I’m sitting by my window in the middle of the night listening to this and thinking of her, I love her. I wish I was with her yet she is all the way in Europe and I am stuck here in America. We’ve only known each other for about two months yet I love her. Or am I just confused and trying to distract myself? She already has a girlfriend yet I still have a feeling that I have a slight chance. Every time we talk we bond well and she said she’d rather talk to me than her other friends. Every day I think about her at least once, not a single day have I gone without her popping into my mind. I sing this to myself thinking of her, thinking what it would be like to be around her, thinking about what it would be like to hold her and romantic things like that. But as I watch the snow coat the trees more and more covering the dim light down the street I wonder to myself, will that day ever come? Will I get to see her? Will we still be friends when that day comes? I guess I’ll never know.
i miss u too kurt!!! u would've been 50 this yr, u don't know how much i needed u in my life. I'm glad ur no longer hurting here any longer tho. i can't wait 2 c u agn!!!
Yeah, this is not about Kurt, thank you very much. Seriously why on earth would anyone want this song to be about him anyway? Get over it people, there are things bigger than your miopic fanboy boners.
"I cant feel the thrill, i dont have the will" hits me so goddamn hard
This song is another evidence of "Sonic Nurse" truthfully being a masterpiece.
Aural MDMA my friend. Gives me the feels every time

Dead boy stares
Strange to meet you
Dead boy cares
So great to see you
Is it time to go
It's a place I know
I can't read your mind
I can't find the time
I can't feel the thrill
I don't have the will
Dead boy dares
Believe in you
Dead boy stares
Afraid that you will see him
Is it time to go
Is it a place I know
I can't read your mind
I can't find the time
I can't feel the thrill
I don't have the will
I love you

Shine all alone
I miss you

I don't glow like neon alone
Don't blush it's just the wind outside

This song and The Diamond Sea about as perfect as two songs can be.
Agreed.
could never get over the annoying flanger effect in the diamond sea, it ruins most of the song for me

I DARE TO SAY, BEST SONG I'VE HEARD IN MY LIFE
You ever heard Guns N Roses doing Welcome To The Jungle Live at The Ritz in 1988? Ever so slightly different but up there. :P
I agree
@@richardrocks2005 Not sure what you mean, but sounds enticing. Will check YT after this vid.
I feel similarly
truth be told
The best Sonic Youth tracks are helmed by Kim Gordon on vocals.

I’m going to need examples from y’all

this song always makes me cry...so beautiful, so sad
Possibly the best Sonic Youth song.
sonic youth has been a faithful companion of my soul forever. thank you for existing, thank you for creating.
I listened to this when I was 21, sad of being alone, I'm 38, still alone, listening to the same song
Don't tell me this, I'm 21 now and I'm alone

Am I the only person who doesn't find this sing depressing? To me it's soothing and otherworldly. I like otherworldly.
Depressing in a good way.
This is the only song I remember crying to in 2023. I was rolling into Colorado from Texas, where this song and the mountains took it all out of me.
I wish I could hear this for the first time again
What I brag is that it always sounds like a first time to me.
The beginning sounds like the boredoms, then it turns into the most beautiful Eden of sorrowful sound.
