    As a mother of 3 children (girls) living in a house with 2 bathtubs and a walk-in shower we never used the bathtubs. It was just so much more convenient and faster to hustle them into the stand up shower especially if it has a hand spray attachment. I was very fortunate to have a massive kitchen sink that I used for their first year n half after that it was the shower

      I think we would be the same if we ever did decide to have children - lots of options! Planning on having a big Belfast sink, so that is definitely doable!

    Just one thought on the tiles in the shower. I do have smaller tiles in the shower and would not do it again. The more grouting, the harder to clean. I would recommend bigger tiles or even something seamless. Like your desing though!!

    I'm so excited for you guys finally getting to shower inside your own house. All your styles are beautiful, I don't think you can make a "bad" decision. Just keep one practical thing in mind: the tumbled, textured tile is going to keep a lot more dirt and will be much harder to clean than the smooth option. Best of luck to both of you.

      Omg a shower in the house is so alien to think about but it's going to be sooooo good!!

    My sister has tumbled tiles in her kitchen (not marble though) and the texture makes it a nightmare to clean. Very beautiful but picking anything up with a cloth or mop is almost impossible. Maybe something else to consider...

    I vote for the left version. That green colour in the shower looks amazing. I'm also not a big fan of a big vanity sorry 😅 the brass sink looks cool and with a nice overhead cabin with a mirror and storage behind for toothbrushes it will look nice.
    And don't worry about the bathtub. Take it from someone who loves to take a bath, if you have to choose between a good shower or a mediocre one with a bath, pick the shower. Plus with kids you can either use the kitchen sink or get one of those baby plastic bathtubs that you just put in the shower when needed and store it somewhere else afterwards.

    My two pence worth, big walk in shower no bath. Cleaning grout is a awful job and small tiles will make a small space look smaller and fussy. So either large tiles, floor and wall. Or look at some of the new shower boarding to avoid grout altogether.

  • @Leed216
    @Leed216 Місяць тому

    Keep your hard fixtures/surfaces neutral ie white. You can change paint colour on walls much easier than tiles, sinks, flooring. Light fixtures etc. any counter around the sink is a must. Single lever faucet with a mixer is so much nicer than trying to get the right temp water. Much more practical than two faucets. Classic floor is lovely. Make sure the marble is sealed or any thing that drops on it will leave a mark. Also I agree with larger piece of tile with the least grout the easier to clean. If you have hard water the green tiles will be dirty looking all the time.

  • @cbycc

    Love the modern victorian style ❤ Also love the green & white/cream colors. Is there a honed green tile? I had tumbled marble as a kitchen backsplash and cannot imagine using it on the floor of a bathroom. Imagine trying to clean up a spilled hair product! Even with a sealer it wants to absorb. Go with honed.

    I’ve recently seen a wonderful idea for the bathroom floor. A designer took different leftover pieces of the marble on marble production ( which they don’t use or don’t need anymore)and created a puzzle on the floor. If u want to check the end result I can share a link to the video.

    So many beautiful tiles to choose from. As someone who has a frameless, walk in shower, it is a great option and easy to clean. The only con is you need a great extraction fan otherwise the whole bathroom becomes a steamy, slippy mess.

    • @ConstanceDunham
      @ConstanceDunham Місяць тому

      I have a frameless walk-in shower too and it’s great! I agree, your extraction fan needs to be pretty good! What I would add, is, just make sure that you put in a small step down into the shower recess as, like you are wanting, our shower covers the entire back wall too, and if there isn’t a small step down, the whole bathroom will flood! 😂 Doesn’t have to be huge, ours is 1.5 cm I think 😊 Beautiful design xxx

    Great choices! I’m also renovating at the moment, and made similar choices, large shower with no bathtub. Marble mosaics floor, microcement walls, some panelling. Do think about choosing a rimless toilet hard water is a pain to remove. I’m also setting up everything to convert it to japanese toilet later so electrics and plumbing and that is basically going yo be a toilet/bidet in one.

    Smaller tiles (especially in the shower) means more grouting, which means over time more potential mould growth- we have redone our bathroom from those small tiles to big tiles and a big feature tile 120cm x 120cm in the middle of the shower. I’m very chuffed. Have fun with ideas- love the green, we went with ocean aqua colour.

    Okay so after watching your mood board (LOVED this). I would say go with the green tumbled for floor and the green marble for wall. This will keep things more consistent which in a small space is key. The tumbled will help you not slip as well which I have had both and the difference in cleaning is negligible. Especially if you seal your tile.
    As for the sink, unless you have a storage closet elsewhere, I'd go with the retrofitted furniture piece. Not having storage in a main bath is brutal. Been there, done that, no thank you.
    When doing the paneling you can actually grab the cream and the green from one of your marble pieces so that once again it all flows.
    I hope you keep doing the mood boards! It completely changed my thoughts on what you are doing.

    If you don't personally care about baths, just stick with a big shower. Even if you do choose to have kids one day, they grow out of baths in a few years. I know people who put a paddling pool inside the shower area when their kids were small, problem solved!

    Love this style of video in addition to your usuals. The green and the brass is such a beautiful combo 🤩😍I think if you don't want a bath, don't put one in! It's your home 💛But it IS smart to plumb the room for a bath no matter what. I can't wait to see your dream come to reality! Our former home had a tiny-tiny bathroom too: you had to close the door to even see the toilet. It was so nice to blow out some walls and get the space for a bigger washroom! Now I'm planning another bathroom renovation in our new-to-us home but I'm currently 7 months pregnant and my husband won't let me demolish anything... seems fair, for now.

  • @tracybrown6207
    @tracybrown6207 Місяць тому

    the rough floor tiles will need sealing as any product/lotion spilt and the marble will absorb it and stain it. So you will need a sealer - now some can give a sheen - which you do not want - so you need to do samples as it could work out you pay way more for the same finish as just buying a normal tile with a sheen. Costly mistake many make. the cupboard used for the basin is edwardian. Lots 2nd hand and still quite cheap. Usually drawers (which you can seal off, so look like drawers, but dont open due to plumbing on the top level of drawers)

Love the honed marble, love the green marble also love the shorter rectangle marble not sure if that was really a thing but think that the long thin rectangles laid on the skinny end are a bit trendy not timeless though it is pretty ;). I bought one and am waiting to have it installed. I live in Maine, USA where the water condenses on the toilet tank. Getting the tank into the wall frees up floor space and stops the dripping off the tank. It was a little bit more expensive but I can have a recessed cabinet or shelf also in the wall.
