I just discovered this music today. I'm 74 and live at the ends of the earth New Zealand. I love it especially the drums and the flute and the girl on that square instrument. Was it on this one? I've been watching this stuff all day. I'm hooked. Have to watch again. So good. It is awesome. Japan you are phenomenal!!!
That square instrument is a Tsugaru Shamisen. The girl playing it is Beni Ninagawa, and she has her own UA-cam channel. Unfortunately, it's all in Japanese, with subtitles....in Japanese.
Such phenomenal talent. The lead guitar player can hold his own against anyone on stage today, period. And stage presence, these guys have it in spades.
they are fenomenal performers wich cannot be said of all musicians but I beleive you have to be a great musician to be a good performer as my guitar teacher told me once the job a musician is to make the audience believe the hard parts are easy

hello, i went japan 3 times at summer for classic tourism and music festival, i saw them live in 2016 at sapporo at rising sun rock festival, a fantastic festival during the bon weekend (fest od death), the festival of 150.000 people rock/pop start the friday 12.00 closed midnight, but saturday they start 12.00 and go for white night, and the end is at the rising sun the sunday for respect the death, its unicum in world and lot of artist and friendly people, and few foreigner. and sicne they are very civlizated people, the put tent not in special reserved zone, but behind stage, so you can sleep in hearing music, and take bbq with people :D if you want see them live i recommand you to target "music festival" which are usually friday-sunday, start early, a bit expensive (100€/day) and always during holidays, so plan a travel july or august next year, look for music festival ticket, like "summersonic, rising sun rock festival, sweet love shower, you can grab ticket online", one band show, and other festival are harder for tickets (need phone number and lottery system), get tickets is main problem without get contact, very important, for know where a band perform, go to the band website, copy/paste location of the calendar and see if they sell ticket to foreigner, if this is festival , you can buy online and send email (could be you only way to get a ticket) , i send email to 3 small livehouse for one band show, for know if i could have tickets, and they always answer me to come , they are very friendly. just go with your will, and your smile ! you can also book ticket in japan if you are sure the event is small and not full booked,, just ask a konbini staff for buy/print ticket at the machine (7/11, lawson). then for travel its ez, print your music ticket (main reason to go), get a plane(500-1000€), use booking-like for hotel (around 70€/day, could be cheaper), use japan rail pass for get cheap unlimited shinkansen rail all aroudn japan like '200€/week), take a card for smartphone or book a 4g mobile box, and take a card for subwaybus too on place that you can charge up to 200€, you can travel easily just in speaking english, transport hotel restaurant are used to english, no problem with googlemap, booking app, its very easy, no need to speak japanese etc...i recommand for a 1st trip, 1week osaka/kyoto. 3days tokyo, other at will, but 1day kanagawa, 1day himeji, 1day hiroshima is nice too.. funny thing in big cities they have dedicated bar of every musical style hard rock, rock, anime jazz etc...wher eyou can encounter people who shar ethe same tastes. just for notice, japan is the 1st country n the world in number of live show, its really a hot spot for music, you wont regret it

@ Actually, Suzuhana Yuko is an outstanding clasic pianist, composer, director and arranger. She writes and play most of the synthethised supporting tracks you hear. So, you must add this four western features to the band

If anything, she is the beautiful combination of Japanese and western music, truly befitting as the leader and front woman of WagakkiBand
For me, all 8 of them have a fantastic talent playing in their own instruments...even vocalist Yuko, master in playing piano.. Main guitarist Macchi so excellent 👏 and drum player Wasabi also excellent and at 3:28, he knock the drum sticks 4 times in his head...kakkoi

It's a rare and special moment when you finally hear something original. This feels like the Japanese version of the first time I heard Heilung's Krigsgaldr.
This is only the 3rd and 4th songs I've heard from these fine and talented musicians. All of it. Excellent! The lady with the three stringer. Wow. Just wow! That bit she did with the percussionists.
知恵の果実 is really beautiful, takes me to some deep feelings and memories. Asa san, Machiya san and Wasabi san and other members of he band are amusing and talented always.
It's the first time for me to see this band... And I fall in love with your music instantly. Not just "rock" music, but you combine all of the traditional Japanese music instrument, the music style, and such a strong performance... you rock...
They're like characters in anime who got together on a journey to defeat the great evil and purged demons along the way with their instruments as their weapons.
This is by far the most Japanese sounding band that uses western genres of music. Every Japanese rock, metal, pop or any western music genre bands that I heard before from Japan just sounds like clones of bands from Europe or North America. Babymetal gives you something slightly different with its dance choreography but even that doesn't stand out all that much because it is only slightly different than these pop musicians with the dance choreography stuff. The Wagakki band actually makes me feel like I am listening to Japanese music. That mix of traditional Japanese folk music with many popular genres from Europe and North America is pure creativity and many of their stage theatrics and dance choreography gives me a much more traditional Japanese feel than anything Babymetal does in their live performances. This Wagakki Band is amazing and they stand out with their creativity and are what I call a real original sounding band.
Very good write up! Wagakki Band is indeed a very unique mix of musical styles and their shows are just awesome, very complex but harmonic. Tough I wouldn´t compare them to Baby Metal, who are a completly different style of music - at least in my opinion. I like both very much!
robert musically Babymetal isn't similar to western pop music but as far as this dance choreography goes they are very similar to modern pop musicians in their live performances. In that sense they are similar to Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, etc in dance choreography but just do this with metal music. I personally find this cheesy but if you love this stuff then go enjoy Babymetal. I am much more impressed by this originality done by The Wagakki Band than any band from Japan that I heard so far and the Wagakki Band is one of the most original sounding bands that I have ever heard on this planet as well. I know I get people pissed off about my opinion about Babymetal but that is the way it is in the general population because people either love Babymetal or hate Babymetal.

It's the first time for me to see this band... And I fall in love with your music instantly. Not just "rock" music, but you combine all of the traditional Japanese music instrument, the music style, and such a strong performance... you rock...

This is by far the most Japanese sounding band that uses western genres of music. Every Japanese rock, metal, pop or any western music genre bands that I heard before from Japan just sounds like clones of bands from Europe or North America. Babymetal gives you something slightly different with its dance choreography but even that doesn't stand out all that much because it is only slightly different than these pop musicians with the dance choreography stuff. The Wagakki band actually makes me feel like I am listening to Japanese music. That mix of traditional Japanese folk music with many popular genres from Europe and North America is pure creativity and many of their stage theatrics and dance choreography gives me a much more traditional Japanese feel than anything Babymetal does in their live performances. This Wagakki Band is amazing and they stand out with their creativity and are what I call a real original sounding band.
Very good write up! Wagakki Band is indeed a very unique mix of musical styles and their shows are just awesome, very complex but harmonic. Tough I wouldn´t compare them to Baby Metal, who are a completly different style of music - at least in my opinion. I like both very much!

robert musically Babymetal isn't similar to western pop music but as far as this dance choreography goes they are very similar to modern pop musicians in their live performances. In that sense they are similar to Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, etc in dance choreography but just do this with metal music. I personally find this cheesy but if you love this stuff then go enjoy Babymetal. I am much more impressed by this originality done by The Wagakki Band than any band from Japan that I heard so far and the Wagakki Band is one of the most original sounding bands that I have ever heard on this planet as well. I know I get people pissed off about my opinion about Babymetal but that is the way it is in the general population because people either love Babymetal or hate Babymetal.
@@midnight-2021 i never said i love baby metal tho. I kinda hate it tbh. It's just kids dancing over scariest metal music. I thought you compared baby metal to pop (like in music sense).
that guy with the guitar at the start is genius. the whole band is awesome these guys should come to play in Bangladesh someday.
