- Model S P85+ EU-spec test drive:
• Tesla Model S EU P85+ ...
My very first test drive in May 2013. The test car is a US 85 kWh Performance version from 2012 with all the equipment except rear facing seats. Shot with Canon HF-G10, DM-100 microphone and Manfrotto suction cup mounted on the panorama roof.
It was on that day a legend was born.
Oh, yeah! :D
maaaan I was just going to comment that
pumpuppthevolume same! XD
Beat me to it (By 4 years)
The legend wasn’t born, he was Bjørn
With the return of millennium falcon, I figured I’d come back to rewatch the OG videos. Hello from 2021!
Same here 😁
3:30 "It will be an adventure, yes" and what an adventure it has been :D
World Class car running on a world class transportation infrastructure. Wow - living here in SF Bay Area/CA/USA did anyone notice these guys barely stopped once - all things flowing (roundabouts/yields etc.) on top class road surfaces. Next to the magic of the model S that was the biggest takeaway from this video.
Thanks :) Yes, I'm going to make my own videos and post them on a regular basis (hopefully once per week). In Norway, cars have high taxes. A typical premium car which cost $100k in other countries will cost $200k in Norway due to the taxes. But pure electric cars don't have these taxes. That's why Teslas are so popular.
Yes, it's nice to know that someone who's been using Scala for two years agree with me :) I've been to some Scala conventions. And many ex-Java programmers there praise Scala.
It was easy to get a test drive. It seems like getting a test drive earlier this year was harder. But now they have more demo cars (4 total I think). I could get a test drive after just 1 week, but I waited around 2 weeks so I could get on a Saturday instead of a weekday.
I'm not sure about the requirements though.
Very funny to watch that Bjørn is beeing a noob in the Tesla... 😁
First hammer in Tesla. Still rolling in 2019!
I work for the University in Oslo (UiO). We use Play2 for web development, yes :) We just started using Scala. So we are still learning. I finished the Corsera functional programming course. Recommended!
I haven't recieved the car yet. It's going to be delivered by Sep/Oct. I'm looking forward to it. A P85 Red multicolor :D
Thank you for the feedback :) I heard it was quick, but I never imagined it to be *that* insane :P
Yes, I said in the very beginning of the video that I already bought the car. I also said before the video started that I have read and watched a lot of videos about Model S. There was no need for him to tell me something that has been said in forums and videos all over The Internet.
Awesome seeing this, it’s like an awesome discovery for me since I only started watching a year ago. Thanks for all your great videos along your journey bjørn!
I think he did a great job. He knew more than the average Tesla representative.
So cool to see you Bjorn test driving a Tesla for the first time !! ha ha; such ancient history now !!
What a sweet beginning! ...when rewinding to the early days of first Tesla test driving
interested in your opinion of the width of the car. Obviously in America the roads and spaces are massive, but here is europe they are not as big. Did you feel close to the other cars in town when you were driving. Apparently I have read it can be a bit nervous driving around town.
I've never seen or drive Tesla sedan but watching Tesla videos is really addictive
You probably drove Performance Plus with 21" wheels. The standard (non Perf plus) is a bit softer and the 19" wheels makes it even more comfortable. I noticed a big difference on my BMW from 18" to 17" and 16".
Exactly! I couldn't agree with you more.
Leaf, MiEV and iON are very common in Oslo. I see them so often that I stop noticing them :)
I love my electric bike :) 13.5 km takes about 30 minutes. The metro takes 40 minutes (including waiting at the stations).
oh man! 11 years! What a hack! Thanks, Bjorn for all that stuff.
Thank you for the feedback :)
And c) Electricity is inexpensive. Petrol cost about $2.5 per litre ($9.5 per US gallon) while 1 kWh cost 12.5 cent. That yields a "fuel" price per km:
- For petrol: 12.5 cent
- For electricity: 2.5 cent
And if you use one of the 950 free public 230V/16A charging stations, the figures gets even better.
Another cool video. Made my head spin a little as we have very few of these rotary intersections over here.
Roundabouts in Norway and Europe is very common. It's a very effective intersection as Mythbusters have proven ;)
Bjørn Nyland I actually found few of them in the States. Think one was in a small town through the Rockies.
I will get the car in mid/late November 2013 :) I'm driving a 2007 BMW 5-series today. The Tesla feels like the BMW and is as comfortable. But it's lacking some useful features like head-up display, electric foldable side mirrors, adjustable headrest and adjustable leg support.
Ooooh, I think we do. Awesome! I will look into that. Thank you =)
Wow... you've come a long, long way baby. Great work, Bjorn!
Lovely run with the Tesla, thanks for sharing it with us!
Awesome! What kind of bike (and specs) do you use? I use a Whisper 905 with 36V/16A battery, 250W engine that has 90 km of range.
Before we started recording, I already told him I have read a lot about the car on the forums, etc. I didn't want a demonstration of the frunk, features, etc either since I could do that any time. He is clearly a petrol head. Notice he said "Watch out for that Ford Mondeo", not "Watch out for that blue car".
Thanks for sharing and taking us along on your first Tesla test drive.
Since then, what an EV adventure journey it has been.
Thanks.
Yes, EVs in Oslo is a common sight :)
Thank you :) It was a great drive =)
In my test drive, I didn't drive on narrow roads so I didn't get a feel of it. But many places in Oslo (and Norway), there are narrow roads. Model S is a pretty wide car so I will definitely be nervous when driving in narrow places.
Model S (not Signature) cost from $75k to $115k in Norway. A basic VW Passat cost about $60k. A BMW M5 is $300k (due to $180k tax). Buying Tesla in Norway is not cheaper than buying in other countries. What makes Tesla so popular here is because the M5 or similar cars have insane taxes. The tax component of the horsepowers in M5 alone is a whopping $100k.
Bjorn! I can't wait to see your first drive in a Model X!
On most reds you go go right on red in the US (most states).
Also the dead corners (4 stop sign corners) is well respected there and its more fair to everyone as "first one to the sign drives", so you get a lot better flow than in roundabouts, where everyone on the right waits for the ones coming from the left to empty.
Hilsen norge.
280 NOK for hva da?
I have to because:
1. This is a demo car and Tesla rep is sitting next to me.
2. Speeding ticket rates in Norway is very high.
That's good :) The Whisper 905 has no suspension. But it has very comfy seats. The bike consumes only 6 Wh/km. Tesla consumes about 200 Wh/km?
Sorry, my bad. I misspelled "brake" :D It's too late to correct it now.
It's so strict that most Norwegians will drive under the speed limit even on a clear and sunny day. They don't care if they have a queue of 50 cars behind them.
And now you drive mostly 10 above!
This must have been a dream come true. I cant wait till I own a Tesla.
It sure is :)
Bought a Tesla yet @Yohance?
Thank you for the feedback :) Did you watch the second video too? :P
Could please do more videos like this one? Or trying to film from drivers position.?
Do you mean when I make the road trip videos? I'll consider it. It's a bit of a hassle nowadays because I have the insulation foam on the panorama roof. That's where I mount the camera for shooting from that position.
Bjørn Nyland Yes. If you fiind a way please do it. I and the people who love this car will sure enjoy the "view". Thank you for your consideration.

Most Norwegians drive between 60 and 100 km/h on the highways. And 95 % of Tesla Model S buyers in Norway don't buy the car because of the environment. We buy it because of the great economical and practical benefits (free parking, charging, ferries, driving on bus lanes, etc).
It has been proved by a highly trustworthy source (Mythbusters) that roundabouts are more efficient than stop signs.
This car is awesome.
Yes indeed :)
Jeg mener at alle P85+ er EU-spec. Mulig jeg tar feil her.
You take your bike to work, that's awesome!
So! That was your first contact with the car! :-)
It looks like you were a bit disappointed not beeing able to push it a little bit more... I had the same feeling when I tested it 1 month ago. :-)
I wish I had enough money to buy one, and a garage to park it where it could charge at night...
Mix of curiosity/science. I'm a scientific minded person, I like to test to know. To my eyes, it's stupid to accept anything without testing. I can't afford a Model S but the Model 3 could be possible.
Alexis de Wouters i'm curious if you have an electric car now?
I have a Ecoride. It has a 36V/10A battery...pretty nice! Ecoride is a swedish brand. It also has a 250W engine with a range of about 50 km. It has a nice mountainbike look with a suspension-fork :)
Hi.. We test drove the car yesterday in Trondheim. I found that the car is very spacious inside, torque was insane even in the standard 85 model, well built and cool looking inside out.. and even the range was good too!!
But I found that the ride was very harsh for me.. I could feel every bump and manhole on the road.. the salesperson told me that its because of the large 22 inch wheels and low profile tires and would be better with 19 inchers with a normal profile rubber. But I'm skeptical!!
Have you bought this car? if yes, how is it for everyday drive... my friend is considering this. Is this a comfortable car compared to other luxury German cars such as Merc/Audi? Thanks..
The speed is in km/h.
Takk :)
It's not downtown Oslo.
Roundabouts do give better flow of traffic than intersections. In addition they are ALOT safer, because everyone travels at a lower pace and traffic goes in the same direction. How many people get killed each year in intersection accidents in the US?
Hva gjorde denne fra 0-100 da? Sikkert dårligere enn dagens model 3 long range?
so are electric cars allowed to use bus lanes in norway?
Yes
Awesome video! Cool to see a Scala programmer driving a Tesla. :) what company do you work for? Do you use Play for your web application? When and how did you start with Scala? Did you receive the car already, how do you like it?
When i visited US (Florida) i reacted to some things. In Sweden we have much more roundabouts makeing the traffic flow better. We do not have the 4 way stop and STOP signs everywhere that no one respects anyway.. and also the traffic lights in US is red a much longer time.. So.. I experienced that the traffic flow is not that good in US ending up in a lot of queues :(
What about the Tesla price in norway.. Can you compare the Tesla model prices with prices for other cars in Norway? I wish i would be living in Norway just for buying a Tesla... hehe..
As someone interesting in computer science and programming, any advices for a young fella ?
Yeah I guess driving in the bigger cities in he US must be a pain... :( That's why electric bikes are awesome, it makes the traffic less dense for people going to and from work :) They really should try and make more bikelanes in the US and in many other countries...there are a lot of win win win situations there.
Great video, man! Are you going to make some vids when you get your own Tesla? Quite interesting thing would be a real range in different road conditions. Btw, what kind of discounts gives Norwegian government for these cars? Cause today I've read that Tesla S was the best selling car model last month in Norway. That's impressive.
Great! I've been using Scala for over two years and it's awesome, I like how you said it's a more modern Java. :) I hope you continue enjoying it and have lots of opportunities in doing so! :)
Also, some more questions: how hard was it to get a Tesla test drive? How long did you wait? What were the requirements?
Thanks!
Nice to watch the begining again :-)
Wow very nice video. You react exactly as I would while driving this car. Thankyou
Also, this was on a Saturday, and on the outside of the city centre.
Just imagine there was so little superchargers in that time, Also its so nice to see Oslo without any tolls(bompenger)
I figured that with all the publicity Tesla have been given lately, viewers from all the world might want to look and know what we're talking about :)
Har du fått'n enda? :D
Great, thanks!
Btw, I'm the author of the Scala protobuf library, so if you are using any serialization in your code, be sure to check out protobufs and ScalaBuff. ;)
You two are very nice! I actually ended up watching the whole video :)
was the speed in mph or km/h?
Great videos !
You rock bjorn!
Thank you :)
nice video and nice drive!!
Rimelig flott video dette her.
To put it this way. I wouldn't drive over the speed limit and put the video of UA-cam ;)
It's an industrial area. What do you expect?
it wold be a good ideea when you flash not to change the screen..only when you keep it pulled twards you for 3-4 sec
(2:11) U had writen "Ford Moneo", but it is Ford Mondeo !! U missed a "d".
Dingue pour l'epoque, révolutionnaire
How is coming in india
