I really hope you all enjoy the clean up of the Wildcat! One thing I want to mention is I haven’t used the Carnuba Wax in a while. After a short period it hazed out pretty bad. We cleaned it back up and went over it with the Ceramic All-in-One Wax from Griots, we normally use. The paint was much happier! I hope everyone has a great weekend! **GMC Motorhome Update is our next Video**
To answer your question honestly, The car detail inside and out didn't turn out like I expected...It turned out way better than I expected. Looking at it on a big screen, you'd swear it just came out of the paint booth. I'm shocked, you guys did an awesome job. With the windows down, it looks beautiful, reminds me of cruisin' back in the day. Thanks for saving this one, what a great video!
Thanks for telling me the engine cid, i really enjoy your videos. I'm a retired mechanic and autobody technician, and used to build race cars for myself and others 😂👍
OMG!!!! That Buick ended up absolutely stunning! You and your Dad outdid yourselves bringing this Wildcat back to life! I worked for a Buick dealer back in the day and I believe that the color on this Wildcat was called Antique Bronze Metallic! You guys are awesome and the car is beautiful!!!! I'd be driving that baby every day!!!
I was thinking either that or code #61 Burnished Brown which is a little darker than than #77 Antique Gold, hard to tell without direct sunlight, and the level of orange peel leads me to believe it was resprayed at some point who knows how accurately they mixed the paint.
You're dad doesn't speak much but I think that says a lot when you two are working together. He raised a good son and you know how to do it yourself the right way. I should probably give your mom some credit too
Late 60s, early 70s cars are my childhood memories. Many of my neighbors had Buick LeSabres, Electras, and Wilcats. It was fun watching you bring back this beautiful car.
These transformations are so satisfying to watch! One tip on the seatbelts, they're easily cleaned with that carpet steam cleaner. I use a long piece of plywood (1x3 or so), lay the belt flat and clean it just like it's carpeting. Especially important on modern, retractable belts, which get sluggish when dirty (use a heavy spring clamp to hold the belt at full extension.) Most people assume some spring has gone tired on their slow retractors, but I found it's the oils and gunk the belt fabric picks up over the years. After all, most seat belts are NEVER cleaned. I was grossed out (and amazed) how dark the solution was when I cleaned the belts on my 200k mile Honda. And they zip back like new. Keep the videos coming, gentlemen!
Between Pole Barn Garage, Junkyard Digs and yourself, those of us who love seeing malaise-era, four-door land yachts being resurrected and driven are being spoilt for content right now! This one is an absolute beauty and has cleaned up really well - the difference between a nice dry barn and being left in a field or the woods i guess.
Glad you recognized the quality and beauty in these older cars. I grew up with these beauties and still appreciate their quality. Doing a great job. Please keep up the great videos. Thanks
"Transformation" -- what a perfect description for what went on here! And, I'm so glad to see you're using 303 Aerospace Protectant. I've been using it for 30 years and swear by it, for anything rubber, plastic or vinyl. (And, even furniture!) It's especially effective on dashboards and tire sidewalls. Apply that stuff regularly (every few months) and those surfaces will never crack or fade. Can't wait to see what you do next on that Buick!
Dear stevequinn.. 👍👌👏 Same here. But unfortunately I neither own a refinery nor a gas station! Do you? 😁 ;-) 2) And, to be completely honest: Cars without b- posts and/or without window frames will never be completely water tight. Best regards, luck and health in particular.
@Chr.U.Cas1622 lol, yeah, I wouldn't want to daily it in CALIFORNIA SoCal are gas was almost 7 dollars a gallon last summer. My 2014 Plum Crazy Challenger R/T Classic isn't much better at 13 city and at best 15 freeways here lol.
Can't believe it looked that good under all the dirt accumulated over 26 years! The car is remarkably intact for its age. Can't wait to see you finish the rest of the mechanicals. Keep up the good work you two!
WOW!!!! Now that's a proper job fellas. If the ol gal looks half as good in person as it does on my phone screen, you have yourselves a going to town rig.
I Love 4 door no post car's like this gem. I remember being 11 and riding in the summer all the windows down feeling the cool wind. This was high living a car like that. I think she deserves to have the rust addressed as she has already had a repaint. Someone loved this car. I think she deserves to be cleaned up even deeper before you can't find anything to fix her up. You two being just some guys you do a real good job bringing things back and you have some Variety of what you tackle. It looks to be a fulltime job to me. Best of luck and keep up the good work.
TOTAL RESPECT for the work you two to bring that Buick back to glory. Here in Australia, when we had an auto industry, our cars of that vintage were made with the same materials as the parent companies in the U.S. Lots of chrome & vinyl. Straight 6 cylinders or baby block V8s. Oh, how I detailed my pride 'n joy back in the day. A true "street machine" and a head turner. Yes, boys, I approve your work & content. Like & subscribed right away. 🇦🇺
It's almost hard to believe how well this old girl cleaned up. What an absolute gem! You always make the cleaning so satisfying to watch. Great video as always.
Gentlemen!!! Thank you! Grown man trying not to cry in Indiana. My parents had one but it was my mother's daily driver. Bringing back some good childhood memories.
My dad had a '65 Wildcat four door hardtop. it had the "Wildcat 465" engine. He said it was the fastest car he ever had. He also had a couple of '69 Electra 225s. One two door that he sold to my older brother. The other was a four door hardtop. They drove those cars for years. Very road worthy. It's great to see these still being cared about.
That’s a beautiful car! When I was in high school, late 60’s-early 70’s cars were what was available for me to buy when I got my license. I had an Olds Cutlass as my first, then an LTD as my second. Now I feel nostalgic for that classic American car ride.
That car is for taking the family and going to church. And all day cruising. Great job on this one. It looks like it came out of the dealership brand new. WOW.
Michael... you and Dad are definitely scrubbers of the Universe!! A big aerobic workout. Love watching your transformations and this one is a beauty indeed. Those bench backseats were much more comfortable than the individualized ones today ... with more comfortable use options.... great at the drive-in in those days😏!! Congratulations!!
Great to watch this (once) beautiful Buick be restored back with a really good, cleaning/buffing/detailing. I would have wet it down and tried to blast off some of the dirt before I put on all the suds… but it all worked out good for you. With it being closed up for 26+ years, it was amazing to me how much dirt was on that headliner, seats and carpeting! This was definitely a nicely-optioned car with the white vinyl top, power windows, seat, and antenna, and I saw Am/Fm radio and tilt steering column, and of course the all-important factory air cond! Great car to do… and you guys did a tremendous transformation on it! Shines almost like new now! Great job and you had fun to boot! What a beauty now! Interesting, good video! Thanks!
I’ve watched probably 100 barn find, clean up videos. Good job on the clean up…. but the bonus on this example is the condition of the vehicle..amazing.
Love the car! Had a 2 door coupe in the same colour and with the same options load. It was one of my favorite Buicks. If you pull the front timing cover off to do the chain and gears, make sure you pack the oil pump with petroleum jelly before you fire it up, the pump has to be primed otherwise it won't pull. Make sure you don't damage the timing case, it's almost unobtanium nowadays, so be careful taking the water pump off, the smaller bolts will likely break due to galvanic corrosion. A/C is a complicated mess of vacuum electrics, so a great source of vacuum leaks. Check your axle ratio, some of them had the one year only 2.45, and it was good for 140 mph as a result. Don't ask me how I know...
One hundred percent GREAT RESTO!!! My dad brought home a brand new 65' LeSabre in the mid 60s. Loved our car. Your Wildcat reminds me of our car. Thanks for the memories.
In 1984 I had a 77 Buick regal I souped it up a little bit and thought I was cool. One night on the highway I challenged an old man in a 1968 Buick wildcat. He left me in the dust before I knew what was happening. !!! I learned a valuable lesson. Very cool cars
We enjoy your videos look forward to them. Thx for being clean in your conversation and great father and team. Tell your dad that his wisdom and experience is need too. Humility never knows it humble.
I can't believe how nice that turned out! Get the Electra finished and take them together to a Buick event or even a cruise in. Have some before pictures and you guys will be the hit of the show! Well done!
You are bringing back one of the quintessential tow vehicles of its time -- it even has the receiver hitch and related equipment. Now all you need is a similar era Vintage Camper for the perfect camping rig. I will admit to being biased as I always liked towing my Vintage 1964 Airstream with a Vintage car. Much of the time, it was a 1975 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible that was stolen a few years ago -- now, my tow vehicle, while Vintage, just not as much -- a 1992 Buick Roadmaster Limited Sedan with the 5.7 Liter V8 and factory trailer tow package. Really enjoying seeing this Buick return to its glory -- brings back memories of my family's 1971 Buick Sportwagon that we purchased new off of the showroom floor.
Dear Budget Builder : I am ultra impressed with whatnyou did to this Wildcatn !!! The result was spectacular !!! I think the Carnauba wax was a super finishing thing to use !!! It seems to have nearly as much protection as ceramic ; but "deeper" shine !!!
Great video. The whole process is so much better to watch than a dude getting an engine to pop on brake clean and then never seeing the car again. Bless you and your family.
Well done. Very surprised at how nice it turned out. You should move this one down the road so someone can really enjoy and use it, just to nice to sit around
I appreciate the detail and thought that went into this cleanup. The preservation, personal protection, and enhancing what you had to work with was nicely displayed.
Yea my truck would look great if the clearcoat hadn’t flaked off. Wish they’d never started doing that to paint jobs. Just got lazy I guess. Don’t last like the old paint.
@@stomper2582 yeah, unfortunately I have a truck like that around 2000 Ford ranger that half the paint blistered off it🤣. Took them about 5 to 10 years to finally get to paint chemicals right.

If you told me that car had been parked for nearly 30yrs I wouldn’t believe you simply because it cleaned up so well. It shows that who ever owned it cared for it, there is little to no wear on the seats and carpets. congrats would really love to see more on this 😁
Gorgeous. You all did a fantastic job. Hardtops are fantastic. When you got to the front seats and chrome trim along the bottom-I just thought “Boy, they sure don’t make them like that anymore.” Fisher Body.
