I am 75. soon to be 76 and I took a year of welding in high school. Only AC & DC arc welding and acetylene gas welding were taught as there were not any Mig welders back then. I had an old used Lincoln wire feed welder that only used flux core and had two settings, High & Low years later. I convinced my wife to buy me this welder for Christmas last year and she agreed, but said it had to remain in the box so she could wrap it and put it under the Christmas tree LOL. I have used the arc weld feature as that is what I am most comfortable with, and the flux core as I didn't have any gas till recently. I am just now learning how to Mig weld with gas. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?? Just wanted to say that your video is the best one I have watched on this welder. You did a very good job at explaining how everything works and how to start with the settings, and where you are used to welding. I watched every review I could find before deciding to purchase this welder, and yours is very informative without all the technical jargon. Thanks, Jim Light
I reviewed the ARCCAPTAIN MIG 200 on my channel too and I still feature it from time to time when I use it on welding jobs....love it....I tried to burn it up and couldn't do it...I ran it so hard the coating was melting off of the welding cables but it just kept welding. Did you notice the light inside the cabinet to help you see the drive roll area?...that's a thoughtful feature. I'm using the MIG 200 on site now welding thin galvanized steel on some bleachers at baseball field. I really like the ARCCAPTAIN flux core wire on that stuff. I tried ARCCAPTAIN wire against Lincoln NR-211 and found that I like the ARCCAPTAIN flux core wire better. Great review you...thank you
I like your channel. You're using the little guy too hard. Those cheap Copper Clad Aluminum cables are meant for the home user. It is good it didn't let the smoke of the inside.
I must say, Karl, you're definitely the top of your class in welding school...👍 Your welding skills are absolutely top-notch! Thanks your review . We just aim to provide user-friendly machines, and having a professional welder like you recognize our brand means a lot. We'll focus on product development and customer service, so every up and coming welder can enjoy welding to the fullest.
I bought the MIG 200 yesterday 04/28/2024 because of Karl's outstanding review....It would be nice if you guys sent Karl Two complete MIG 200 Units with all the accessories so he could do Two giveaways for the Lucky people out there that can't afford to buy their own.
@@markkennedy4055 Great idea! I'm definitely up for it, and I'll try to get in touch with Karl to see how things can progress. Thanks for your support!
@arccaptain-weld I am interested I one of your machines ìi have a Lincoln pro 180 and am very happy with it but if I can buy 1 machine that I can mìg and tig weld with and also stick weld well its a no brainer. What I need to know do you use the same gas for mig and tig or does it take a different gas ?
Impressive enough, it made a great high school graduation gift for my grandson. Thanks, Karl, for making this video and all the others. Something to bring our generations together. First project, build a Weld Cart, he's on it.
I bought a Michigan 250 multi welder, I found it a heap better than my Telwin 100, just gives me a better weld, but we only have 240volt, power, I've learnt heaps from watching people like you that weld, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
I have two of these MIG200's and can vouch for their quality at this price point. ArcCaptain has really hit the nail on the head with these units. I know not all of their products hit their amperage rating but they're smooth and HIGHLY diversified which makes them a jack of all trades per se, AGAIN, at this price point. I love mine and they just keep welding! Great review Karl!
That thing works great and your skills are commendable.i just got a CTS200 from amico power that has stick ,tig, and plasma but was over double the money. No mig. Gotta love the rate at which technology is advancing .when i started in the 80s it was brazing and stick only. That brazing is an art in itself, whew and the guy that taught me was an old school lead guy. Thanks for keeping us up on the cutting edge guys!
That is another vote for Arc Captain. A number of the other channels I watch, like Brandon Lund or Lift Arch Studios have all given the same thumbs up for the Arc Captain - shame it is not available in Aus from what I can tell. I just bought a cheap Mig, Tig and Plasma cutter machine for Aus $280.00 ( chinese GIANT brand), which is about the same in CAD$ I have tried the Stick and the Mig - HF start so Not lift ARC / Scratch Tig - but Hot Start, and I must say I am impressed . It cuts up to 6.0 mm 1/4" with good results also . so Ideal for car resto and Fab work. I am have good success as I teach myself to weld. Getting ready to take on a rat rod project at young age of 61. Spanered on cars a nd bikes for 45 years but never done metal fab till recently - Covid gave me plenty of UA-cam time here in Melbiurne Aus , as we were locked down for some 200 days. Love your stuff Karl.
I have this welder and im happy with it. Currently running .030 flux. Since i dont have a gas bottle. Still trying to get the settings dialed in to weld 16 gauge and 18 gauge sheet metal.
@@ich1ban916 lots of people including myself just use co2. the gas is cheaper, the bottles too. you can use soda bottle or keg type. the welds aren't as clean as mix gas but way way nicer than flux core. youll also get to be a better welder because youll have a better sense of what a good weld looks like.
Karl, big fan of the channel! Not only a great review but I learned more on how to use the welder from watching this video than I did reading the instruction manual which I found a little hard to understand. I feel like a lot of these Chinese companies use Google translator when writing the manuals rather than using a native english speaker edit them. Anyway great job on the review and keep turning out the content, we are all learning a lot, you are wise beyond your years!!! Thank you!!!!
Well, I just bought this welder.....when my wife starts yelling at me I'm going to say Karl made me do it! It's your fault Karl for such a great review!
I appreciate the honest appraisal. Lots of guys need an affordable starter welder. My Miller is 220, but the 110 option is nice at times. Can’t beat the price
I Got The Unlimited 140 From Habor Freight. It Does Mig Tig And Stick. About $ 550 On Sale. Also A Great Welder So Far. Sheet Metal And Various Other Joba Here At Hot Rod Shop. Thanks For Sharing. 🤠
Let me start by saying that I absolutely love the channel and the content you put out Karl. Watched this review and decided to pull the trigger on the welder and arccaptians plasma cut50. I was just getting ready to replace the circuit board in my Hobart for the second time. It is now on the shelf. This Mig200 welds better than the Hobart by far. I have been surprised at the functionality and performance of this machine. The Cut50 plasma performs equally as well. Thanks for the review Karl, would have never purchased these without it.
Spread the tail of the loop out a tad further before coming back over, ie lower case e long tail, then come back. I used to weld mig 8 to 12 hours a day, truck lift parts
I have been welding for 51 years and have over that time welded lots of cast iron with mig. You dont try and weld the parts directly together, you butter each side with mig then join the two buttered layers together with the last pass, plain wire works quite well for things like cracks in water jackets but if you want greater strength use stainless wire.
That was a really engaging and on-point look at one of the new batch of low-cost multi-process machines. It wasn't too down in the weeds on details or cut & polish analysis on welds, just overall features and function. It seemed more geared to the knowledgeable beginner, but the test runs were all very practical. Great review!
Bought this welder for building my 58 Apache before seeing this video. I was nervous but happy it got your approval. I sure like mine so far. Excited to buy a tig gun for it down the road
I want to thank you for this video. I just ordered my new welder with the mega saver package. The promo code saved me almost $50. Just enough for a case of beer hahaha.
Thanks for the product review, Karl. I saw this welder being reviewed on Jo Daddy's Garage, and he seemed to like it. I'm glad you confirmed it's a good welder.
UPDATE....I stopped watching your video about half way through and ordered from amazon not yet knowing your discount offer. They had an additional $150 off for EarthDay and a further $27 dollar discount code for my email address. The welder only cost $436.16 and that included tax and free shipping!!! Thanks from the other side of the country bro! You saved me over $200 with your link ✌Now I just have to cancel the amazon one or return it if it's too late to cancel.
I bought a YesWelder MIG205DS. Not 100% sure but wouldn’t be surprised if it’s out of the same factory. It’s very very similar. My previous ‘old school’ transformer style welder meant my welds mostly looked like snot. Now I’m able to lay down some decent welds!! As well as it’s multi-function ie MIG, Stick, LiftTIG etc. If you’re serious about doing some projects buy one of these new generation welders. They are worth every penny!!
Mad skills as always, Bad to the bone Bro! I purchased one yesterday and they’re still on sale for $349 and the discount code works on top of that on their website. I can’t wait to try it out. Thanks from the review!
Karl you should make more welding how to videos, I've seen so many other peoples videos claiming to teach welding technics that are a complete joke, especially when the guy teaching can't do it to begin with. Love your videos bro, take care.
Great review. It would be awesome to see another review of this with lift arc tig. A mini lesson in lift arc tig for body work from a great welder fabricator like you. Just picked up a 56 chevy 210 project looks like this will be my welder. I have seen tons of great reviews from guys like you about this company. Killer machine. Can't beat the price. Keep up the great videos
We have Stahlwerk welding machines here in Europe, they are cheap machines but seem to be good. My friend has a MIG welder and a TIG welder and he is super happy (the do the all in one machines but are really not as good as the dedicated ones) they give 7 years warranty
Great machine. Had a couple of cheaper myself. One you get to regulate the weld by travel speed and time in the weld pool. It welded everything on the same setting. It could weld anything however . Happily joined big stuff and thin material had to be a series of starts. The next one went upmarket by double the price and lower rated amperage . Stil Chinese build with many options but no spot weld . Well this was interesting and a real fine cheapie. not a bad demo Karl.
Well I must agree you did a great job reviewing the welder. I've been wanting a decent little machine for around the house and garage. Thanks for the discount code
🦘🇦🇺 Stick welding is handy if you need to weld in windy outdoor situations too. I know you can use gas-less mig but on big stuff I like to drag out my trusty 50 year old stick welder.
Just bought the welder. Love the channel. Have a 1964 chevy P10 I am building out for fun. Going to add skirts to it with this welder. Starting with flux core. Maybe u could do a video for us beginners with some flux core tips and spot welding for 20 guage sheet metal by making holes in the sheet metal and spot welding the 20 guage sheet metal to 1 inch square 1/8th thick stock behind as the support for the skirt. Love the collabs between u and half assed also!
My brother bought a inverter welder similar to that . First time we used it I welded 8mm plate so I turned it up all the way. I quickly realised wow that's way too high. So after using it for 20 minutes I asked how much he paid ( $500 Aus). I quickly transferred $500 to his account and his new welder, was now my new welder😂. 3 years later everything from panel steel to structural I can't fault it. And I transport it often very sturdy machines. 👍
I am just waiting to get one, but everything i have seen makes me confident is a great machine. Thank you for the review. The multi process is great. Would appreciate if you showed the other processed and what you think of them.
The un-upgraded MIG200 is only 350 bucks which I think is worth mentioning since you used all the stuff it comes with standard. This is the kind of thing I like seeing as a beginner in the welding realm. Low cost investment for learning a new skill is always nice!
I´d take a stick welder over a small mig every day of the week for thicker material. Its far to easy to make welds that look good but are not structurally sound with a MIG, especially with a small one that dont have the oomp to go into spray transfer.
just got mine. haven't used it yet. i bought directly from arc captain. final cost after discount and taxes was $374. i didn't pay attention much to the description and found out the tig gun was not included. also found it will not use a pedal. but it is still a great bargain.
just ordered and got 8 percent off and some kind of special they are running today it ends, Anyway got wire, stick leads, 2 sets of consumables and it was $400, if it works as good as the one you have, that is a win...will let you know did not get gloves and helmet ...thanks
I am a 1st class Journeyman welder and for all around welding stick is still the king. The problem with stick is it requires practice and a degree of talent to use it so everyone has run to MIG which is useless for many things. The trouble with this machine for home use is amperage draw. It takes a 50 amp service which few are going to have at their disposal.
You are correct, sir. If it's thick, use a stick if you want it to stay. MIG is also the worst for giving you a GREAT looking weld with NO STRENGTH AT ALL. I wish Karl and other youtubers would bother to TEST THE WELDS. The #1 most important part of a welder review, TESTING.
Welcome to the arccaptian fam , ive been using one for about a year and have made a ton of how to videos on them, there a great lil welder also the tig is pretty good!! Keep up the Rad work!!!
I have to say, although I've been an engineer and fabricating welder for over 40 years, you and Brent are my two go-to guys. Now, that little welder has been popping up all over the place, and I must say, there have been mixed reviews on it. No matter, because if I were in the market for any welding machine or welding equipment, then I would like to see what you have to say about it first. I think you have proven yourself to be an honest, reputable guy. Great informative video. Nice one, Karl.👍😁🏴⚒️
Great content and appreciate your knowledge!!! I just ordered one and got a smoking deal!!! Im replacing my lincoln 125 flux core. I only do automotive fab, bumpers, c-notch and some body work but the flux runs hot so i have to be so careful not to warp or burn holes in the sheet metal. I wish you would have tried the tig process with this machine
Your large Miller is 252 correct? If so pull the gun trigger when you turn on the power to get to the hidden menu. You can adjust run in, spot, pre and post, burnback and a few other options.
I think unless you're welding frames for buildings or heavy equipment etc. where structural integrity is king, then vertical down is probably going to be fine right? Might not want to do it on a car chassis, but if you're just putting together a workbench go for it?
I own blue and red machines but gotta say that's a very capable machine at an amazing price point. Seems like a great machine for a DIY beginner. BTW, what's the duty cycle?
🦘🇦🇺 🤔 I'm just wondering if Elio could use a tinted(?) lens sometimes when filming you welding, it would be great to see your whip technique in real time.
Got my email in on a 200 and appreciate your testing and showing your results. Maybe suggestion, not critique your technique, just sharing my critique my puddle, your exactly description, adding watching the symmetrical egg shape hot puddle, any deformity adjust until it follow symmetrical. Just putting out. Great job. Im excited and submental income my disability.
I watched your video and bought one of these welders. It showed up today and i was pleasantly suprised to find that the settings are now displayed in inches per minute and the wire selection is .030 .035 etc... I havent had a chance to use it yet but Im wondering what brand of wire do you prefer ? Thanks for the video..
was watching your new DIY gas tank video today. in the video I see this familiar red welding box. ....did he get an Arccaptain? turns out I found your review here. interesting in that a few weeks ago I bought the cheaper TIG Arccaptain 200 for not a lot of money. DC Tig. Tiny. Welds like a champ other than the torch and cord are heavy. I put my expensive Everlast under a tarp. so yes, Arccaptain does make some good stuff. and my beads look good too.
Awesome content man really dig the channel!!! A lot of useful knowledge and great insight! Was wondering if you could possibly drop some tips/advice or maybe even a tutorial for flex core welding. For those of us out here that are just starting out or just haven’t gotten their hands on gas yet. Would be greatly appreciated! It’d be righteous to hear the thoughts from a top notch welder like yourself!!! Keep up the great work brah! Mahalos from Hawai’i!!! Edit: the discount code wasn’t working
Hi Karl, Great episode.. This machine is quite good from your presentation.. How about consumables, are they standard to any other maker or is it specific to the manufacturer.. I have a 15 year old blue box and I can still get consumables even thought they don't make the model any longer.. What are the chances for this machine? Thanks for testing . Will you consider the TIG process or will you show the spot welding technique of this machine.. I know I'd sure like to see that..
Most of the accessories for the MB15 MIG GUN can be used with our machine, so you can buy consumables anywhere. Of course, I would prefer if you buy them in our store. LOL.

I´d take a stick welder over a small mig every day of the week for thicker material. Its far to easy to make welds that look good but are not structurally sound with a MIG, especially with a small one that dont have the oomp to go into spray transfer.
I always learn something from your videos thanks
I have the captain ac/dc 200p Tig welder
I love it.the 200 multiprosser is a awsome welder.enjoy
Thanks!
just got mine. haven't used it yet. i bought directly from arc captain. final cost after discount and taxes was $374. i didn't pay attention much to the description and found out the tig gun was not included. also found it will not use a pedal. but it is still a great bargain.
I've bought tooliom plasma and 200 amperage mig and 200 Amp pulse tig they weld and cut great and all 3 were less the 900 bucks
Man I just bought one exactly the same! Different brand here in New Zealand but same functions, thanks for the tutorial 😂 I’m just starting out.👌🏻
Great instructions on the welder set up!
Stick welder's are great for outdoor, high wind environments. Also, less moving parts than a MIG welder, therefore more reliable.
just ordered and got 8 percent off and some kind of special they are running today it ends, Anyway got wire, stick leads, 2 sets of consumables and it was $400, if it works as good as the one you have, that is a win...will let you know did not get gloves and helmet ...thanks
Great wee video, I would buy at the drop of a hat on the strength of this review.
Try making a gas tank fuel tight with that stick weld, 16 GA stainless steel
You are correct, sir. If it's thick, use a stick if you want it to stay. MIG is also the worst for giving you a GREAT looking weld with NO STRENGTH AT ALL. I wish Karl and other youtubers would bother to TEST THE WELDS. The #1 most important part of a welder review, TESTING.
Awesome a great little welder
I just got mine in. It better be as good as you say!! We're going to give it whirl.
Welcome to the arccaptian fam , ive been using one for about a year and have made a ton of how to videos on them, there a great lil welder also the tig is pretty good!! Keep up the Rad work!!!
How reliable and easy are the consumables to find and purchase?
I have to say, although I've been an engineer and fabricating welder for over 40 years, you and Brent are my two go-to guys.
Now, that little welder has been popping up all over the place, and I must say, there have been mixed reviews on it.
No matter, because if I were in the market for any welding machine or welding equipment, then I would like to see what you have to say about it first. I think you have proven yourself to be an honest, reputable guy.
Great informative video. Nice one, Karl.👍😁🏴⚒️
Excellent video! Thanks for the review!
Man you are great welder. I'm just learning. You are great at explaining the welder. Thanks for sharing.
In all my years (40) of welding, I've always dragged my MIG with a little whip action
5/32 5P Lincoln rod downhill pipe. Man those pipe welders can carry some metal
Great review! I have been in the market for a 200 amp dual voltage mig welder and will definitely check this one out.
SUPER WELDING. Sure looks like a super multi mix machine. Many Thanks.
Great video, I’ll be right behind ya with my review of them
Your large Miller is 252 correct? If so pull the gun trigger when you turn on the power to get to the hidden menu. You can adjust run in, spot, pre and post, burnback and a few other options.
Mine is a 251 so not quite the same options
But that’s rad I didn’t know the 252 had all that!
Nice machine, thanks for the tips! Thanks Karl 😊.
Beautiful welds!
Karl, thank you for the review. I need a welder and looks like I'll be purchasing one. Should do the job on my 36 Ford truck.
Being an advocate for KISS, it appears to me that this is as good as it gets......
Great littel welder, very impressed.
Just received my mine today.
I think unless you're welding frames for buildings or heavy equipment etc. where structural integrity is king, then vertical down is probably going to be fine right?
Might not want to do it on a car chassis, but if you're just putting together a workbench go for it?
Proof is in the pudding!! Great video. Thanks for sharing. Look forward to more. Be safe and stay well.
Awesome,well done.
Stick welding is also better in windy places, from what I understand, cause slag vs shielding gas
Wow very impressive. Nice Job!
I own blue and red machines but gotta say that's a very capable machine at an amazing price point. Seems like a great machine for a DIY beginner. BTW, what's the duty cycle?
Duty cycle is 60% I think for any industrial application the big welders can’t be beat. Bad for a DIY or hot rod shop I think these are good to go.
Man, you can flat out weld, wish I could even get close to that
🦘🇦🇺 🤔 I'm just wondering if Elio could use a tinted(?) lens sometimes when filming you welding, it would be great to see your whip technique in real time.
Pretty sure the other demo vid's are filtered ....
Awesome review, thank you! I might have to do some shopping! 🙂
Great information
My brother you know your tools ,exllent welding beads
Looks like a great welder.
The Florida pool pump motor repair guy 32750 approved ! that was good info & see and know Make it Kustom
Would have been good to see it doing a stackatack on sheet metal. Curious to know if it works with the spot weld function too with stack a tack
Nice one mate good job😊
That thing is amazing
Dude I’m following you. First time welder enthusiast
Awesome man check out some of my other Welding Videos!
4T is good when using a Welding Rotator .
Edit: the discount code wasn’t working
can you do a stick welding or tig welding demo with the arcaptain
I bought one on the first release
I paid way less
I like it
Hi Karl, Great episode..
LOL.
