Abraham and Ancient Egypt: Historical and Biblical Perspectives

  • The ancient history of Egypt intersects for the first time with the Biblical narrative when Abraham traveled from Canaan to Egypt during the 12th Dynasty, possibly during the reign of Sensusret III. By that time the great pyramids had stood for hundreds of years, and Egyptian civilization had realized some of its most important accomplishments. There are no known Egyptian records attesting to Abraham's visit, as recorded in Genesis 12, but the story, taken a face value, presents a picture compatible with the history of the Land of the Nile, and that perspective forms the assumptions of the presentation here. The Pharaoh's scepter is, I think, a wheat flail. This is an agricultural instrument used to separate the wheat from the chaff. This could symbolize the justice of the pharaoh separating the bad people from the good people.

For those wondering about "Ra" being pronounced as "ray" - the vowels, where they exist in hieroglyphics, are only an approximation, and you'll see "Ra" and "Re", "Amun-Ra" and "Amun-Re" in textbooks. Besides, both "Re" and "Ra" are only approximations - according to ancient Hittite records, the name would probably have been pronounced "REE-a". Unlike Egyptian, Hittite cuneiform script is syllabic, and preserves the vowels attached to the consonants, so Ramesses ("born of Ra/Re") was heard by the Hittite scribes as "REE-a-mi-shi-sha", meaning that the first syllable, which most of us pronounce Ra, was actually "REE-a".

    • @ftumschk
      @ftumschk 3 роки тому +2

@@LK-ho1dg Thanks for that, but I doubt the Hittites would have inserted additional vowel sounds that weren't there to begin with, especially when they had symbols for the syllable "ra".
Interestingly, there's another of Ramesses' names/titles, traditionally rendered "Setepenre", which also has a refence to Ra (or Re) at the end. This was rendered by the Hittite scribes as "Sha-tap-na-REE-a", so there seems to be a consistent pattern here.

Incorrect the name was never used by the Egyptians in Abraham's time because those Egyptians were located just East of the dead sea in the plains of Jordan and had not migrated into the Nile Valey yet.
The Name Ra came from a descendant of the later migrated Egyptians who did settle at the Nile.
Genesis 10; 6 The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizʹra·im(Formed the Egypt referred with Abraham in Jordan),+ Put,+ and Caʹnaan.+
7 The sons of Cush were Seʹba,+ Havʹi·lah, Sabʹtah, Raʹa·mah(sons were Sheba and Dedan),+ and Sabʹte·ca.
The sons of Raʹa·mah were Sheʹba(Upper Egypt) and Deʹdan(Lower Egypt).
Mizraim and her Great Nephew Ra-amah and their descendants settled in Upper and Lower Egypt as one peoples. The name Ra at that time made and referred to their ancestor Ra-amah as a God by this time.
Mizraim was the progenitor of the Egyptian tribes as well as some non-Egyptian tribes, and the name came to be synonymous with Egypt.
Genesis 50;11,,,,,,11 The inhabitants of the land, the Caʹnaan·ites, saw them mourning at the threshing floor of Aʹtad, and they exclaimed: “This is a great mourning for the Egyptians!” That is why it was named Aʹbel-mizʹra·im,* which is in the region of the Jordan.,,,,,,,,,,,
This is the Egypt first mentioned of Abraham's first encounter/visit in Jordan and later his second encounter with these Egyptians was after the first great drought and famine and were relocated to the Nile in North Africa areas.

@@about2mount what madness are you on? The Egyptians are far more ancient than the time Abraham would have been. Their origins are not in Jordan. Their origins begin in the Sahara before the it had dried up and become a dessert. We find the precursor to Egyptian gods in caves I. The Saraha as well as in caves in nubia. We also see the begi in s of Egyptian burial practices in the Sahara ad well. When we date them they are over 10,000 years ago. Not even the world's first civilization, Mesopotamia was around yet. The Bible attempts to retroactively account for the Egyptians existence and gets it 100% wrong. Of course they do. The Isrealites only started writing things down about 3800 years ago. They made up everything based on their very narrow ignorant view of their small part of the world. Egypt's true name Ham does not come from the what the bi le says it does. It comes from the Egyptian world for black land. The Isrealites used the world Ham and invented the character of Ham, Noah's offspring to explain the Egyptians. But they are wrong. We know Noah's story is not true. But a recreation of another older flood myth. It's all mythology. Your mistake is using the Bible as actual history. It is not. And can't be trusted in that regard. All the Bible records is what those who wrote it believed not what actually happened.

The plagues are likely real outcomes of one of the Thera/Santorini eruptions that were one or more absolutely catastrophic climate destroying events between 1450 and 1150 BCE. These absolutely destroyed Mycenaean and Minoan civilization and very much weakened Hittites who collapsed later but soon after.
The plagues do logically follow in an order reflecting likely effects on the Nile ecosystem of an eruption about that far away.
They seem to have been reported twice a couple hundred years apart, and they match fairly closely the Exodus list. There is a theological explanation of the later plagues in Tuts time. That being that the old gods wanted Amarna abandoned and their worship resumed - which DID happen.
So where did the monotheists go? Probably northeast where other monotheists - Zoroastrian predecessors - already were. And where there were a ragtag bunch of survivors of tsunamis and subsequent pirate raids in a place Egypt abandoned: Canaan.

According to bible when Abram & Sari went to egypt, the egyptian king seemed to have had a knowledge of true God when God warned him to not touch Sari and he acknowledge Abram as an important person, also and interesting note, the king of egypt could not have been young as Sari was between 60-70years old, so ( I'm guessing) Maybe Sari looked after the woman of his haram.

The problem the apologists, as I say repeatedly in my own vids, is they ignore the fact that many Hebrew stories are modified stories from other cultures. No one could logically argue that the flood story came from the ancient Sumerians for example. So when they "prove" a histprical "fact" or relic that they claim gives legitimacy to the Old Testament they really aren't. Or they find a piece of evidence for events in history and make this grand leap that it proves the entire bible story. Like when a piece of evidence showed Hebrew slaves. I'm sure there were some Hebrew slaves. But there is nothing to show global slavery nor exodus of what would have been several million people. That is a fallacy and the type of fallacy the apologists use in most of their arguments. Cheers, DCF

The 69 year-weeks up to the Messiah
A daily week has seven days.
A year week has seven years.
    69 year-weeks contain 69 x 7 = 483 years.
The year is counted with 360 days.
This results, among other things, from the information about the last, the 70th week of the year, in Revelation 11, 2-3.
There, half of the last week of the year (3 1/2 years) is given as 42 months or 1260 days (Rev 11, 2.3).
A complete year-week of 7 years therefore has twice as many days:
    1260 x 2 = 2,520 days;
    or 42 x 2 = 84 months,
    or 84 / 12 = 7 years.
If a year week counts 2,520 days,
    then 69 year weeks count 2,520 x 69 = 173,880 days.
The conversion of the 173,880 days
into years to 365 or 366 days
The Jews did not need a conversion into our calendar at that time. However, if we want to understand the information according to our calendar, we have to take the trouble to convert the years from 360 days to years of 365 or 366 days, so that we can get the desired result in our calendar.
The 173,880 days equal 476 years and 140 days:
    173,880 days / 365 days = 476.3836 years = 476 years plus 0.3836 years x 365 = 140 days.
(Nehemiah 2, 1) to the entry of the Messiah into Jerusalem in 32 AD, where the Lord was publicly acclaimed as the Messiah just before he was crucified, exactly 476 years.

    The land between two rivers
    Abraham belonged to that region
So why go to egypt during famine??

Did the rivers of tigris and euphrates dry up??

Egypt is not Mizraim as mentioned in the OT.
The alleged kingdoms in Palestine Israel and Judea wers as tiny as the China town to the vast USA.
If there was a riot in this Chaina town that never means to send hundreds of thousands of US soldiers led by the president himself to overcome the riot. This looks trivial and unwortht. The above mentioned microscopic alleged kingdoms are the same if they really existed in Palestine.
At the time of Abraham, there was nothing called Chaldeans as it appears in English translations of the OT because the Hebrew word is Kassidim. So, where is this Kassidim and you have to know that the last two letters in the word Kassidim are used for plural so who were the Kassidim. As you know names can't be translated, you can't translate Georgia beautiful.
Abraham left his wife Hagar in the desert. Was this desert in the south of Palestine or Nevad?
It was in Makka-Hijaz. A place appears clearly both in Arabic and Hebrew in old copy from the Abbaside period and a copy of the Egyptin Arab Rabbai Sadia Gaoon Al Fayoumi in the 10th century. This name Makka utterly disappears from today's OT and of course all European languages copies.

Remember before the Flood it was only one continent and the majority of the movement of the continental plates likely happened during that year of the Flood, while submerged.

Using the bible as factual. Abraham?
21:29 And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What mean these seven ewe lambs
which thou hast set by themselves?
21:30 And he said, For these seven
ewe lambs shalt thou take of my hand, that they may be a witness unto
me, that I have digged this well.
21:31 Wherefore he called that place Beersheba; because there they
    sware both of them.
21:32 Thus they made a covenant at Beersheba: then Abimelech rose up,
and Phichol the chief captain of his host, and they returned into the
    land of the Philistines.
21:33 And Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and called there on
the name of the LORD, the everlasting God.
21:34 And Abraham sojourned in the Philistines' land many days.
So historians and bible supporters what is wrong with this passage?

These names were changed later to Osirus, Horus, ISIS, Thoth by the time the Greeks were around and a lot of the original symbols had changed meaning. The rod was a conduit of power. It was made of sapphire. Crystals were often used as focal points for energy and is where the idea of witch wands comes from. Crystals were used before the Flood for computing and as depicted in the Reeves Superman movies. The Baghdad weather machine is an example of this. Building complexes made of quartz and other crystalline stone arranged like computer components have been found all over the world and under water (the water level used to be much lower before the Flood).

Keep in mind that this story was told a couple different ways in Genesis giving us a hint of the two traditions that were melded by the scribes who meshed the code of the Law into a singular work. Actually it's not, in fact you can point out many such things even in if you divide things into sources ( J and dtr or traditional JEDP ( I think EJPD are more probable if these sources even existed ( they didn't)))
For example Abraham thinking why couldn't he conceive at 80 yrs of age while his son conceives at 100 and beyond
Apparently abaraham died as old man but acc to masoretic ages his great great grandfather was still alive
It's much more probable that ages are idealised and symbolic ( these numbers were used by various other civilisations as well)
Check 40 in moabite Stella it actually means long period
For example Moses lived in Egypt for 40 years then in midian for 40 years then 40 years in wilderness
40*3 = 12*10 you know these numbers are important
Or take for example case of Joseph who is associated with egypt lived 110
What is the ideal age in Egypt (110)
      Take example of job
Who lived perfect life ( implies he would live perfect age 120)
But then that whole God Satan thing happened and he lived 160 ie 40+120 ( 120 means perfect age in canaanite and northern regions)
Hence job lived to he perfect of perfect age

For anyone of African descent that would like a more evidence based, factual teaching of Egypt (which is not Egypt at all, it’s Kemet) I would suggest learning the teachings of Anthony T Browder, Shrine of Ptah’s Baaba Heru, Kaba Kemene, or Out of Darkness: Heavy is the crown. You’ll find just how twisted Kemet’s history is.

What a room of dummies who don't know Cleopatra was the Last Pharoah. Also the only Ptolemaic ruler to learn hieroglyphics. And had it not been for being up against the supergenius Octavian, she could well have become the co-ruler of Rome. And her son likely established a hereditary kingship as Emperor at least for a while.

Seeing as you know so much about the Egyptians maybe you could help me out? It should be easy. They wrote everything they did on papyrus for nearly a thousand years so, where are the records of the Israelis being kept slaves? I mean, it must have been a logistic nightmare to feed, clothe and house them. I should imagine, seeing as Egypt had the most powerful army in the region, as standing army, that there are military records pertaining to chasing and entire ethnic group through the dessert but somehow never catching them. And pretty sure someone as important as moses gets a shout somewhere.
Its easy to find documentary evidence of them being held captive in Babylon they also wrote everything down. Then of course there's the *babylonian* Talmud.

      Easy.
99% of all ancient records and artefacts have been lost. Only the rare few that are preserved in extremely dry climates have survived. Being near the Nile, in an extremely wet environment, it's expected that any written records would have been lost.

The whole old testament isnt compatible with its self if you actually know the source materials they syncretized. The Old Testament is just a series of stories (Mostly about Ba'al) that have been syncretized into yahwism and had therefore had their original deities stripped away.

As contemporary Jewish people were still worshiping a pair of Gods at that time, it is more likely that the influence was vice versa with the Aton monotheistic concept influencing them. That however seems to have taken more than 500 years after this period, so Zoaraster is a more likely culprit for that to happen with it's Good and Bad divided between heaven and earth. The stories are old, but seem to have been cobbled together in it's monotheistic form between 800 and 500 BCE. But yes,.. you have to change your axiom to Gods being created by men rather than vice versa. The story becomes much more interesting and logical though if you look at it from that view point.

Abraham did not travel to Egypt during the 12th Dynasty but - as extra-biblical Jewish tradition makes clear - at the beginning of the 1st Dynasty. In fact, Abraham shows many features in common with Min/Menes, the first pharaoh. Both, for example, were linked to the custom of circumcision. Furthermore, a couple of centuries after Menes we come to Imhotep, who saves Egypt from a seven-year famine; whilst a couple of centuries after Abraham we come to Joseph, who saves Egypt from a seven-year famine. The two histories are out-of sync. See ua-cam.com/video/IrdTAAa5-CI/v-deo.html

Some say that the Seven Years of Famine as described in the times of Joseph of Jacob from the "Genesis" to be the result of the Eruption of Thera (Santorini). After all, the fallout of the volcanic ash being released in the atmosphere lead to a ''volcanic winter'', just like the 1816 AD ''year without Summer" caused by the 1815 eruption of Mount Tambora
. There are even chinese records from the era of the eruption, which state that there was a long famine at this time. Also there is of course the Deucalion's Cataclysm which the date given by the Greeks corresponds to the dating of the Eruption of Thera, which is in 1529 BC. Now Joseph is usually dated to have been around the late 16th century as well, so it does make it possible that the two events are related.
