If you are learning math or chemistry I really like a UA-camr called Organic chemistry tutor he explains in a simple and methodical way that is easy to understand
I don't hate study. It's the bad habit of procrastination and so many distractions like youtube, facebook, instagram and games constantly taking away my focus.
I am forty-one and in my final year of uni. Learning has always been a challenge for me - I have a slow processing disorder, so, once I finished high school, in 1999, I had no interest in continuing formal education. When I turned 36, I decided that I wanted more out of life, so enrolled at college. It required challenging my self-concept. Today, I enjoy learning but still find it difficult. Thanks for making this video, Penrose. I am sure it will have utility for many people. Best regards, C.
Dear @supernova1259, whilst I am not in the habit of telling people how to live their lives because I trust that most people are autonomous (are the authors of their lives), I can offer you some ideas, which I would have perhaps benefitted from hearing as a younger person. 1) Don’t compare yourself unfavourably to others (attractiveness/intellect /wealth/material). If you can improve upon these things, do it. If you can’t, be kind to yourself and accept your limitations and idiosyncrasies; 2) Do your best, supernova1259, with the skills, resources, and time you have. It’s good enough! Be kind to yourself! 3) It’s acceptable to make mistakes or have accidents. Reflect (what happened, how do you feel about it, what have you learnt, what would you do differently in future) and learn from them. Once again, be kind to yourself, even if others aren’t; 4) Be creative! You don’t have to strive for excellence/perfection. It is enough just to create. It is your birthright; 5) Be mindful of fantasy. I have become lost in fantasy too often. I think it is healthy to fantasise, but remind yourself, it’s not reality; 6) Let experience be your guide. Sometimes you will conceptualize an experience before you have had the chance to actually experience it. Your ideas may be very flawed - like a low-resolution map. I find that experience (the actual territory vs the map) usually prevails. Concepts are no more than hypotheses, waiting to be tested. The same goes for the ideas you have about yourself, others, and life which have been taught to you… test them out for yourself; that includes the things I have shared. All the best, supernova1259! Warm regards, C.

It's also about having a growth mindset. Understanding that if you can't learn something right now is not a big deal. That over time if you continue to learn that you will eventually master it.
I’m in medical school rn and that’s the exact mindset that has really pushed me further than what I thought and I haven’t been in school for 10+ years. I get a bit overwhelmed by the terminology at first, but then it becomes simple after you see it the first time and understand where everything is and why it has its name. I’m a bit slower with math, but even that I can pick up pretty quickly.
This could be a good ted talk honestly. Really good advice right there. Perfect timing for youtube to recommend this video to me too cus right now I'm actually trying to find a way to make learning/studying enjoyable to me. I'm a heavy procrastinator and now I'm on my last leg :')
- Approach the subjects with the curiosity - 1 of the greatest feelings is overcoming the difficult challenges - Understand the fundamentals - Take your time to understand the subjects. One of the best ways is reviewing other resources - Make studying a game with instant rewards. For example: mastering the past papers, each test done is a reward that makes you want to achieve more. - Some assignments might suck, too difficult for your level, just break it into small tasks
Much needed for me as I used to do these same things in highschool but got distracted in uni, still I have 2.5 years left in uni and gotta get back to the grind. Thanks
its not easy to motivate me because i have everything i ever wanted but you made me realize i wasted a lot of time by not indulging in things i always had an interest in and just live idly receiving money from my store. this one's for the algorithm
Great video and great points. It’s all about having a positive mindset. I find that as soon as I start feeling like I’m doing a chore it becomes 10x harder. But when I allow myself to be curious and approach it from a perspective of learning and growth I am actually engaged with what I’m doing. So to reiterate, you need to go from “i need to do this because i will fail if I don’t” to “i want to do this because i will feel fulfilled if I do so.” Fulfillment comes from overcoming the challenge and satisfying intellectual curiosity. Also good point about difficulty level because you can’t be engaged with something you don’t understand to begin with. Start small and utilize resources like UA-cam to build foundational understanding
I agree to you whatever you said ... One of the best way for instant reward is ... Teach someone whatever you learnt, and ask him about feedback how to taught him. In that way, it'll revise and you'll love studying
I never really realized it until i watched this video. I thought my lack of drive to learn was because of something fundamentally wrong with me rather than achieving a change in mindset. How i approach learning, having that spark of curiosity is what makes studying FUN. In order to learn how to enjoy study there a few steps one must take. 1. Be curious and open-minded to study material rather than dreading the act of studying and completing assignments. Society has programmed us to not enjoy learning because they have closely associated it with “passing” and getting approval and acceptance from older adults. Turning learning into a something you do for approval from others rather than exploring your own curiosity. 2. If subjects are too difficult/hard to understand, ensure you understand the foundations to that subject. You can explore this by looking to learn content outside of the classroom by another teacher ( through UA-cam ). This way, you’ll have to opportunity to revisit the foundations through a different teaching method that might fit your learning style. This will reduce your chances of being overwhelmed and procrastinating assignments. 3. Making learning fun by turning it into a game. We love video games and general entertainment because it provides us with instant gratification ( ie. Xp points, in-game reward points, progressive development of storylines, etc ). Make learning more fun by frequently testing and quizzing yourself. Every time you pass these self-tests and quizzes, it will serve as an award and help you learn areas you need to improve on, thus providing you with reward/fulfillment based dopamine.

I value the importance and hard work of educators and I’m on the total opposite end of those who want to put all these weird restriction on education. However, our educational system needs an overhaul in general and parents have to be willing to accommodate and work with teachers like they used to. It truly takes a village, and sometimes people forget that teachers are a part of that village.
That's cool. I relate to the part about approaching it with curiosity. But when you just have to review literature basically you don't get that reward you get when actually learning a new skill.
Practice more questions i was like this i knew all the concepts but couldn't write anything in the exam while my friends didn't knew anything but still would get better marks it might sound unfair but understanding the topic and getting good marks are different things u can score good marks without even understanding the topic
First thing you need to do is to find what is your passion. If you don’t really like what you are doing, you will never understand it and you will never get motivated to study.

Helloo I’m 17 and I was just wondering if you have any meaningful life advice from your 41 years of experience
Dear @supernova1259, whilst I am not in the habit of telling people how to live their lives because I trust that most people are autonomous (are the authors of their lives), I can offer you some ideas, which I would have perhaps benefitted from hearing as a younger person.
1) Don’t compare yourself unfavourably to others (attractiveness/intellect /wealth/material). If you can improve upon these things, do it. If you can’t, be kind to yourself and accept your limitations and idiosyncrasies;
2) Do your best, supernova1259, with the skills, resources, and time you have. It’s good enough! Be kind to yourself!
3) It’s acceptable to make mistakes or have accidents. Reflect (what happened, how do you feel about it, what have you learnt, what would you do differently in future) and learn from them. Once again, be kind to yourself, even if others aren’t;
4) Be creative! You don’t have to strive for excellence/perfection. It is enough just to create. It is your birthright;
5) Be mindful of fantasy. I have become lost in fantasy too often. I think it is healthy to fantasise, but remind yourself, it’s not reality;

I find that experience (the actual territory vs the map) usually prevails. Concepts are no more than hypotheses, waiting to be tested.
UA-cam recommended this video to me at the right time.
This video might just revolutionize my life, and I’m a grad student.
That's cool. I relate to the part about approaching it with curiosity. But when you just have to review literature basically you don't get that reward you get when actually learning a new skill.
thank you! awesome advice
Amazing advice!
Watching this at last year of engineering
Great video use some of these tips already but learned something new still
I love learning, i hate fitting 69M formule and tricks and rules and exceptions and type of questions in my human mind😂
I have doubt
In schools while studying if they ask something i can tell correct answer but when it comes to exams i get less marks
Yeah my friend is like that too.
this is due to inefficient revision and lack of understanding of exam pattern. you must revise knowledge before exam, and do practice papers
Practice more questions i was like this i knew all the concepts but couldn't write anything in the exam while my friends didn't knew anything but still would get better marks it might sound unfair but understanding the topic and getting good marks are different things u can score good marks without even understanding the topic
@@bilwabhde9260 Will try this out, just had an calculus quiz a while ago and I flunked it.
First thing you need to do is to find what is your passion. If you don’t really like what you are doing, you will never understand it and you will never get motivated to study.
i enjoyed learning from you
