Fishing for First Ice Crappies - Northern Wisconsin

- Опубліковано 27 лис 2018
- Crappies are probably the most targeted fish all winter long in the midwest. Crappies are abundant in many lakes and they have schooling tendencies. Fishing basin crappies is very interactive when using sonar and the bite becomes very visual. With that being said there are many fine details that put more fish on the ice for ice anglers. The right rod, reel, jigging cadence and approach are often the difference between a good day and a bad day. I hope this video helps you put more crazies on the ice this winter. Ice fishing for crappies is a blast, be safe and get out there to enjoy the winter bite.

*I already own the Battle II combo **enjoyable.fishing** recommend and decided to try a Fierce II combo to carry out to the pier. Works great and for the money they are hard to beat.*
Came across your videos today... As someone who has done this for a little while as well, I can appreciate good work. I have only watched this one so far, but it was done VERY well.
Much of the information you shared can take someone years to learn and are the keys to success - very cool of you to share and help others speed up the learning process!
Thanks man! Thanks for watching.
Thanks Tom, great video explaining how you use the graph.
It's great that you explain everything. The shots of the flasher are awesome. You are a good teacher Thanks!
Great stuff Tom, ty for the informative videos. I grew up open water fishing, so the tactics you share are really helpful to me. I live in southern WI, so the ice report/fish reports are cool.
Just earned yourself a new sub, awesome video, especially the sonar angle and the info/tips you provided! Keep it up!
Great video Tom. I really appreciated the way you let us see how you used the sonar while fishing. Well done!
love the flasher view in the vid bro...keep em coming.
The best ice fishing video I've seen where you actually explain the sonar and rod use. Perfect. Exactly how I would make a video. BTW those are the only rods I use too!
Keep it up Tom, really appreciate the videos! Super underrated channel you got here.
As always another stellar episode. Great information on all counts, technique, tackle and location. Hope to shake your hand at the ice show!
Thanks for showing the straight on sonar action Tom - dont get that on other other UA-cam channels

Awesome video! Can't wait to see more!
Thanks for all the info just getting started.
Dude I love this channel👍🏼💥🐟
Love when people show the flasher cam. Nice video.
I like that you explained some of the bits of the flasher on this one. I'm new to all this and the depths vs. fish vs. lure marks helped a lot... thanks! Now to figure out how people can tell the potential fish size by the marks... keep hearing folks say "that's a huge mark" but I can't tell... yet.
Awesome videos!!
Great video - thanks for posting! Going to head out with my son today and try some deeper holes
Great video

Hey man I really enjoy your videos! It's always awesome season those crappies fly up at your jig. I gave you a sub!
Thanks man.
Nice video homie
Love how you have another camera on the flasher doing the split screen.
Nice video. I highly recommend TUCR Bullwhip noodle rod. Has changed the way I’m able to perform panfishing and I’m an avid angler also and it’s the best rod I’ve ever used. Not sponsored or anything. The guides barely ice up and you just barely touch it and all the ice falls off, super sensitive tip that immediately transitions into a great backbone that can handle big fish, and just the right sensitivity tip that you can use in high winds and still detect bites.
Nice crappies !!!!!
Great video for us small lake guys.Lucky if I get a 12 inch crappie on my local lakes .How light of a lure can that rod your using be good for.I use the 1/100th ounce wax tails..Will the rod load up with that rod?Been using a Frabil tungsten spring bobber on my UL ROD.
Nice catching 👊👊👊
Great info. I subscribe
How are you liking the M1? I just bought one and was wondering how it compares to the vexilars and humminbirds. I’m excited to get out. Nice job !
Great video as always! Looking at buying an electric auger. Any in particular you would recommend?

I'm in SE Wisconsin and I have never experienced ice crappie like that. I have done it with gills on a few occasions. Most of the time the fish just stare at the jig and move real slow. Must be all of the pressure from other fishermen. Hayward is just too far to go regularly. It's like the fish are starving and will eat anything the way they are zooming up to the bait. We have small lakes with dink perch that do that.
Where's this at what lake I live in Hayward
We live on little devils lake we only have couple inches
*The rod is amazing **allabout.wiki/tuld** very strong midsection for setting hooks but very sensitive end for looking for bites and jigging precisely. The reel isn't anything special, I don't plan on it lasting forever but I suppose it doesn't need to be that nice for ice fishing since the fish don't fight as hard.*
Can you talk about plastics for walleye, perch, gills and crappie? What kind for each species? Do you prefer live bait or plastics? Please always tell us what lures you are using. Thanks!
Nice video, very informative
Also congratulations on 6K!!! I’m abt to hit 5.1K👍🏼💥🐟
Great video.. new supporter here!
Tom - It looks like you had about 3 foot of transducer cable out - did you adjust that off camera? I was thinking you want your ducer at the base of the ice?
Ideally yes it would be just below the ice.
I wish it was hard water season already!!!
I’m coming up to little round any advice
Great videos! If you don’t mind me asking how did you get started out with getting subscribers?
Just made allot of videos.
What lake is that? Im heading up to hayward area later this month but have little to no idea where to lay into some decent fish in that area. Thank you in advance!
Chippewa Flowage, LCO, Grindstone. Those are my favorite lakes.
Is that Upper Red lake ur talking about, near Shawano WI?
Wa Cha Xiong he was at Upper Red Lake MN
Upper Red Lake is near Bemidji, MN. It's roughly 5 hours north of St. Paul/Minneapolis, MN. Went there Thanksgiving weekend and killed it with my buddies.
