Ok. Finally someone covers the actual cadence of spoon jigging. Most fellas chat about the spoon itself but never actually touch on the technique. THANK YOU. I will be on the ice in a few hours and will concentrate on spoons today. Thx again.

I love how you talk through what you do and why, so many show catching the fish, showing the fish, but few take the time to explain techniques. THANK YOU!

He has some cheap rods and it looks like some JT outdoors rods as well. Pflueger, okuma, 13 fishing, they make some good cheaper ice reels. A good higher end reel is the Abu Garcia Revo s10. Good line for floro and mono is frost line, around 6 lb. Good braid line is the spider wire. It comes in a red "case", I forgot the name of it exactly. I just gave you the same info he would have in a 10 minute video. Your welcome

yes this works on active feeding fish, but on eyes that are not active but looking to feed you want to let the lure sit once they come in and keep the rod loose on your finger to let them take it and then set the line right away before they spit it out.

Great tip about how to descend the jig. Never heard that before. As for the rest...active fish will hit, the rest prefer a dead stick. Understand your bait movement but don’t think that there is a magic pattern to jigging that will fit every scenario.

Throw out a Drop shot and one or 2 octopus hooks suspended a foot between each other. Throw it out and let it sit for a few minutes, if nothing hits reel it in a foot or 2 at a time.
Or just throw a jighead with a leech or minnow on it and let it sit on bottom and bring it in real slowly pausing lots pretty much same approach as the drop shot.
Also focus on the first couple and last couple hours of daylight.

Couple questions when using vert. spoons: 1. Is a swivel needed at the fluoro leader (or is a double uni OK)? 2. Rapala loop knot at the spoon for max play or are Palomar or imp. clinch knots easier in the cold and just as effective?
