In this video, we’re going to talk about fasting for liver health. Is fasting good for the liver?
Intermittent fasting is very good for the liver. The liver is one of the only organs that can completely regenerate if you have at least 25% of your liver left. If you look down and you have a gut, chances are you have a fatty liver.
When you do a fast for 18+ hours, you can:
    • Reverse a fatty liver (the fat on the liver can be used as fuel)
    • Reduce an enlarged liver
    • Lower liver enzymes (lower inflammation)
    • Improve fibrosis
    • Stimulate autophagy
The key is keeping your insulin low. If you’re overweight, chances are you have high insulin. If you’re a diabetic, you especially have high insulin. Fasting can greatly improve insulin levels.
When you eat, you’re stimulating insulin. In the presence of insulin:
    • You can’t release fat from the liver
    • You can’t burn fat
    • You have inflammation
*Intermittent fasting is essential to help with fatty liver disease.
If you have a fatty liver, you may also want to try:
    1. Taking choline
    2. Taking apple cider vinegar

Fast forward to today, my liver stopped hurting and it isn’t protruding so much from my belly. I think I will be a new person next year this time. From all your videos I have learned there’s really only like 10 reasons for difficulty on keto.
    1. Not enough vegetables
    2. Insufficient qty of veggies
    3. Lacking a good amount of greens
    4. Too little vegetables
    5. Skipping eating your veggies
    6. Not ensuring your vegetable intake is high
    7. Scant vegetable consumption
    8. Failing to have a high amount of vegetables
    9. Finding ways not to eat your vegetables
    10. Minimal vegetable intake.

I have no cravings for sugar or high carb junk food, quite the opposite - food commercials now gross me out! 98lbs to go, but I'm focused on the journey, not the destination!

Hi Doctor, I've been doing intermittent fasting for a couple months now. Initially one meal a day but moved to 20-4 plan. However, since I have Gilbert's syndrome, I have to check my bilirubin levels regularly. I noticed that my bilirubin levels went significantly high (3H mg/dl) after I started fasting.
Is that normal or is it something I'm not doing right ?

I started ADF (alternate day fasting) a while back and had great results. I lost weight, felt fantastic, and noticed overall health improvements. However, after 4-5 weeks, I started experiencing stomach discomfort, bloating, and indigestion, which progressed to a severe abdominal pain episode that landed me in the ER. They diagnosed me with multiple small gallstones (largest 4mm).
The doctor recommended a cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), but I'm truly hesitant about surgery. Since the diagnosis, I've been dedicated to a healthy diet and exercise to improve my health. I still have some weight to lose to reach my ideal BMI and honestly, ADF made me feel amazing. I've heard stories of people managing gallstones without surgery, and I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with this.
My questions are: Is there a known link between ADF and developing gallstones? If I want to continue ADF to reach my weight goals, how can I modify it to minimize the risk of further gallstone formation? I would really appreciate any advice from people who have successfully managed gallstones without surgery.

May I ask Doctor Berg: Is it better for autophagy to 1) fasting twice a month each time for 4 days OR 2) fast twice a month each time for 4 days plus add 8 times 36 hours of fasting?
I am afraid for cell regeneration/recycling the second option would be too much (is that even possible?) and less possibilities in the short feast-days to get all required nutritions from food?

    • @peterherfort7323
      @peterherfort7323 4 роки тому +2

@Op Hs yes, but he also said that nobody really knows when autophagy starts, and if you eat a lot of carbohydrates for example, then you are surely not into autophagy after 18 hours but more likely after 30 hours.
I am a skinny guy and I cannot gain weight easily, so I am not interested in losing fat, I am only interested in cell recycling, and I want to get the most out of autophagy. I read a few books focused on autophagy and all said the same thing: autophagy may start after 14-16 hours, but it is a very light autophagy (like autophagy during sleeping, exercising) and the efficiancy of autophagy after 36 hours of fasting compared to the beginning after 16 hours is raised up to 400%.
Based on my skinny body, I dont want to starve myself for nothing, wrongfully assuming every day after my 16 hours fast that I was enjoying autophagy but in reality I would have needed to fast the double amount of time.

I wish more people would just try fasting. Not just intermitent fasting, but a more Spartan 48 or 72 hour fast. And not try to find a thousand reasons that it won't work. Just try it. I had to quit drinking alcohol and eating sweets for any of this to work, and I think a lot of people don't want to give that up. Just try it. I drink salt/potassium water and black coffee when I fast.
If you don't think you can fast, work your way up to it by getting into ketosis and quitting alcohol first. Just stay on a ketogenic diet for awhile to be prepared. Then, stop eating and maybe cut back a bit on exercise - not much.
Intermitent fasting, full 48 & 72 hour fasts, and ketogenic diet have helped me lose 30 lbs and I look better in the face. I realize that if I wanted to compete in an athletic even that involved explosive strength, I'd need to add back some carbs -- to keep glycogen stores up. But other than that, this eating pattern has been great for me.
