I can't believe they didn't make these rechargeable.

When the hearphones came out a lot of people complained the rechargeable battery wasn't replaceable - as if they shouldn't last several years anyway. By then a newer/better product has come out to replace it. Besides, how much do you spend on a phone where most of those batteries are not user replaceable?

Did even a bit more comparing (see previous comment):
An excellent aspect of the Hearphoness build, and one of the most important ones for me, is that they have an inline control with two discrete sets of volume rockers catty-corner. The narrow rockers control "World Volume"-real life, speech and environment (which can also be adjusted on the app). The wide rockers control streaming volume (which can't). Neither adjustment infringes upon the other; you have total control. Between the wide rockers is a multi-function button that can answer/end incoming phone calls and activate/deactivate streaming content, as well as switch between three directionality settings: Everywhere, Front and Focused. Various tap patterns perform a bunch of other functions too.
The Bose SoundControl hearing aids, however, do not have onboard streaming volume; only World Volume. There is no multifunction button. There are only two directionality settings, Everywhere and Focus.
So for an asking price that is $450 higher, you basically get Hearphones electronic functions DE-FEATURED!
    Thanks, Bose. Thanks a lot.

We don't yet know if the SoundControl is basically a copy of the Hearphone or if Bose have improved further the noise reduction and compression techniques which made the Hearphone better than any hearing aid I've used for speech in noisy situations and are what allowed them to ditch the Holy Grail of audiology, namely a hearing test. The concern is if to make it as small as a traditional hearing aid, and if size is the only advantage, Bose may have compromised the sound quality and made it too expensive for a mediocre device that doesn't take calls. We will have to wait and see!

@@johnbaker4903 I take *your* point, but I just don't see *Bose's* point in the de-featuring, since hearing aids from the major companies have variations on the same operational bells and whistles the Hearphones had. And I know something about how much it costs to manufacture the circuitry once you've designed it, so I don't believe that the defeaturing was a way of passing on the savings to the consumer, not with a price tag over twice as high; and especially not since they had already developed the tech. (Not to put too fine a point on it, my first pair of Hearphones was purchaed through an audiology chain office that was conducting a study on them FOR Bose.) Another thing to consider is this: For a year or so, Bose was promoting the coming hearing aids as patterned on the Hearphones build (with the collar and the cables). This to me was hugely exciting, because-I thought-there would be mics and receivers as powerful (due to size), but with the only thing added that the Hearphones seemed to be missing: a range of EQ adjustment handles, and the ability to at least take an app-driven self evaluation, or, if you chose, an audiologist's real ear measurement, so that they could be fitted precisely to your profile. (Lesser PSAPs like the BeHear Access offer that much and more in the way of adjustability; and Bose sound products have a whole *history* of fine-tuning EQ adjustability, so it's not like this isn't work they've already done.) I understand that in their research, Bose may have determined that future customers didn't want a hearing aid that had the conspicuous Hearphones appearance, and instead desired something more traditional and discreet; but to offer what's called a hearing aid that has NO adjustable handles, just global volume, global treble-bass and volume boost per individual ear is simply absurd. And if there was a simplicity-of-use issue, there's no reason why there couldn't be a choice between basic controls and advanced controls, at the user's discretion. The SoundControl may be a high end amplifier…but it's still only an amplifier, no matter what they're calling it.

@@Pelaphus Thank you for your response. I can understand your disappointment that Bose is marketing the SoundControl with no bells or whistles. It's clearly a deliberate policy. You said earlier you LOVE your Hearphones. Indeed, I have found them to perform better than most hearing devices including high-end hearing aids. You could do a lot worse than continue with them!

@@johnbaker4903 I'm on my 2nd pair of Hearphones and must say I'm...concerned with the new hearing aids? I love the Hearphones, absolutely love them and am thus, sorry they're gone. That being said, I don't mind the 850 price range if the sound is as good. I never minded the collar all that much but certainly won't miss it. Also, I first had $5,000 Otico [sp??] Hearing aids and the hearphones were much, much better.

Initially they'll only be available in Ma, Mt, Nc, Sc, and Tx. 18 May. So I gather that they need to get STATE approvals as well as FDA. I'm wearing a Bose HearPhone as I type this. I also have Phonak Paradise FITTED hearing aids, but I'm excited for the people out there who can't afford FITTED hearing aids!

I have severe to profound hearing loss, worse in the right ear but the hear phones worked pretty good. Have had like eight hear phones...and now discontinued.
The New aids can't be used for watching TV, talking on the phone or listening to musicbut they will fit in most drawers.
Never saw you review CaptionCall phones, these are free phones to hearing impaired people, the work with a kind line or internet connection(wireless or Cat5) The service is free too. Paid through American disability act.

@@DrCliffAuD How would that be beneficial to our patients primarily and to us as professionals. Patients will be duped by purchasing a cheaper product that will definitely cost them more in the long run financially ( repairs, cleaning etc..) and health wise since a fit without a hearing test administered by a professional could cause more harm than good. Just an opinion.

@@saifallahmelliti8363 You should get more informations about Bose's test product "Hearphones" before to talk about it. Lots of people have replaced their $ 6k (professional) hearing aids for a device that cost $ 500 ... it's certainly not a coincidence ^^
And I'm not implying that professionals are useless, far from it, it's just that for a certain type of deafness (mild, moderate), the Bose product is excellent. For more serious deafness, a professional is always essential.
      Just an opinion xD

These are completely different than Hearphones. They don’t stream any audio from any device. No streaming music from your phone, nor can you hear phone calls through these new devices.

      yeah I think that's a major flaw in 2021
discovering streaming and remote microphones plus several months of daily using it to get the sound directly in my ear shifted my brain from 'not having a clue what's being spoken' to 'getting by'
plus it's so much realxing when you don't need to exhaust yourself so much to listen to podcasts and such through speaker + aid combo
maybe they're leaving streaming for next generation so that they can sell that one as well :P

Didn't they shut down their OTC Hearing Aid? Shouldn't this video be taken off from misleading information?

"How do you know you have a mild to moderate hearing loss if you don't have a test done?" Silly question. People don't need a doctor for every little thing. If they can benefit from a hearing aid, then there's a strong likelihood they are aware of a mild to moderate hearing loss!
