  • The new Bose SoundControl hearing aids are like no hearing aids I've tried before. Unlike traditional medical-model hearing aids, Bose hearing aids are delivered right to your door, and they're set up completely by you in the comfort of your own home.
But do they work? And are they worth $849.95 for the pair? In my video review, I'll unbox the Bose hearing aids, set them up to my unique hearing loss, and take them for a comprehensive test drive in some difficult listening situations. I'll also see how they perform when listening to music, and give you my ultimate recommendation when it comes to purchasing these hearing aids for yourself.

I've had mine for a week, but haven't worn them more than 2 hours at a time. They definitely have been helpful in small social settings. I'm a teacher on summer break, so I'm very curious how they'll work for me in the classroom with twenty-four 8 year olds!

I used the Bose SoundControl hearing aids for almost two years, then switched to the Lexie B2, which is essentially the same hearing aid with a rechargeable battery. And I am sure that a $3,000 unit custom fitted by an audiologist would perform better. So these things work well enough, at 1/3rd the cost. Here in the USA, hearing aids are rarely covered by medical insurance plans. So this becomes a considerable expense for senior citizens on fixed incomes.

Just a note, the price of Bose SoundControl has dropped recently to $699 (usd). If you purchased recently, Bose will price match and refund the difference.
I've only had my SoundControl hearing aids for a few days, but so far they seem to work well. At $700 they are approx. 1/5 the price quoted to me for HAs by my audiologist. Definitely worth trying out given the price. I have nothing to compare them with though ... these are my first HAs. The audiologist said I have mild hearing loss with tinnitus ... borderline for 'needing' hearing aids.
My wife loves that I can hear her and she doesn't have to repeat everything she says 3-4 times.
I'm sure my Audiologist could do better with higher tech hearing aids. For the price though, I think I'm going to keep the Bose for the time being.

Hey Rod, thank you for the update on the price. It's great to hear success stories too. I'd love to hear more after you've been wearing them for a while so feel free to check back in on the comments. Thanks for watching, Matthew

I just got the Lexie B1 hearing aids, very much like the Bose Soundcontrol hearing aids as a first time hearing user. I am 71 years of age with a slight hearing hearing loss with a high frequency roll off above 2000 Hz. So with my slight hearing loss the over-the-counter hearing aids are sufficient. I set the Global Volume to 0 and Treble to 15 which fits my hearing. Overall the hearing aids fit my needs quite well.

Thanks so much for this. Great to learn from you what the benefits and drawbacks. This is my first pair of hearing aids so I have nothing to compare them to but since you do- your impressions are very worthwhile to me.

Great review! I have had Kirkland (Costco) hearing aids for several years and will soon need another pair due to basically being worn out. Your points about the Bose self-set-up were right on, I would not feel confident in doing it myself if I did not have experience using hearing aids first. Everything you said made sense, and was presented beautifully!

Just want to say thanks, I am in the market looking at something for my dad; this video was great!
An unfortunate byproduct of needing the app around means that those who are older and not tech-savvy may have a harder time feeling satisfied with these.. I'll keep exploring my options, but this was great.. thanks.

Hi Mendo, UA-cam is a great place to start looking into what's available. I'd then find a decent audiologist and they should be able to guide you through the journey. Thanks for watching!

I have hearing loss in the high frequencies range. Not able to hear birds chirping. Upon using the Bose hearing aids for 2 weeks but no improvement. Even at the highest volume setting in the world control of the Bose Apps there is no difference in the sound amplification. Looks I am having hearing loss in a severe to profound situation which required an audiologist to check. Have returned Bose hearing aids to the company. Maybe to take a look at Kirkland KS10 which is one of the premium hearing aids in the market.

I've been looking at these OTC. Been wearing a hearing aid since 5 years old. I'm looking for one that also has a mic switch to be about to hear from a landline phone. Cellphones still do not work I am at in the country. Also for us who live on a fix income there should be help for to be ale to get one. I will not go out in public if I can no hear. Thanks for your review!

You have to remember if OTC hearing aids were "pushing the boundaries" they'd be as expensive as the prescription ones. Can we really expect OTC aids to be super high tech and remain affordable? Can't have it all. Great testing. Thanks for doing it.

As a professional musician, I wonder if you would comment on my experience when listening to records. I evaluated both the Bose Sound Control and Oticon More 1 aids. Although clarity for both was an improvement versus my unaided ears, I found a deal breaker for both. Both units have their microphones sitting on the top of your ears. As such, benefit from pinna effect was completely lost. What I experienced listening to either stereo or surround was monophonic sound. With no capability to localize sound there was no depth or sound stage. Is your experience similar? I have switched to ITC aids and found them a big improvement. Likely a CIC would be even better, but then rechargeability and bluetooth are lost.

    • @HearingTracker
      @HearingTracker  2 роки тому +1

Hey Russ, I've checked in with Matt and he agree's with your experiences with Bose, however finds a significant improvement with the Mores.

    • @russtanton3141

@@HearingTracker Thank you for your follow up! I did not test Bose versus Oticon More as I had returned the Bose units before obtaining the Mores. I was spoiled early with hearing aids as I used Eargos(which sit completely in the ear canal) until my hearing loss progressed past what Eargo's useful range. I think my ideal hearing aid would be an Earlens aid with an in the canal mic...unfortunately they have not made one yet.

That's interesting. I found that I could localize sound a lot better with my Lexie B1 Bose behind the ear hearing aids than without the hearing aids. I guess with my open domes and the aids used only for high frequencies make a difference, as I can still hear sounds through my outer ears.

how does the sound compare to the phonak hearing aids and does Bose do free trials of these, do these come with full ear molds, does the app support smartwatches (with ease of use),do these support "automatic changing" for sounds (like on phonak app)?
