Remember when we used to try to treat the illness instead of the symptom?

How do you define illness? I know somewhat how I would define it and with my definition, the illness really would be having an unwanted body part instead of not wanting it so I'm curious what yours is since it must be different.

Honestly I believe I may somewhat be suffering from BIID. It’s not necessarily a desire for me to want to amputate my hands for some sort of odd pleasure but these hands don’t feel like they belong to me. In fact, they’re not apart of me. It’s unfortunate though.. I have larger than normal hands and I’ve heard it all and the odd looks I get. It hurts me emotionally and psychologically to constantly be reminded of a limb that has cursed me throughout my entire life. I just hope medicine and science advances where we can reduce phalangeal length is possible. They have every type of surgery you can name of but can’t reduce finger length? Oh well.

Have you looked into Body Dismorphic Disorder (BDD)? I'm not saying that you would have that because I don't know the full picture and I'm no doctor whatsoever, but maybe you hadn't heard of it before and maybe it could bring you closer to understanding what you're struggling with. Either way, I hope you have a nice day :)

I'm so sorry you feel that way. This sounds like body dysmorphia disorder, not body integrity disorder. I also have body dysmorphia. If you want another body dysmorphia suffering person to talk to I'm here

I’m a fully transitioned transgender woman. I have had multiple surgeries to change my body to female. They have all improved my life. Today I am very comfortable in my body and mind. To a cisgendered male, the idea of having your body changed into a female is horrifying… but for me, I feel whole. I feel completely at home in my body.
I don’t have this Body part dysphoria condition… but I can sympathise with their condition.

Totally recognize this disorder but why is he saying "we" and not "I"?

If I grew a third arm, It would bother me and I would want it removed. I don't think there's any objective reason why having two arms and two legs is better than less or more, it should come down to what's best for the individual person. It disturbs me greatly but if amputating is what will allow these people to have better happier more meaningful lives than that matters much more than my or your own personal comfort with the idea ever will. I'm saddened that our failings have caused these people so much unnecessary grief.

I know people through a group on Facebook who want to be a paralysed as a paraplegic like myself and as a devotee who is sexually attracted to those with disabilities
