4:18 This is why we love Jack so much! In this moment of darkness, he shines a light of an evolved being, and it's met by pure British stoicism. That was priceless!

Back then, epilepsy patients could be called lunatics. I have a distant aunt who was listed as both a " lunatic" in several census, and "insane from fits" in two of others.

Lunatic could mean so many things back then. It’s very sad. People who don’t understand the language used at the time think their family members were insane when they may have simply had anxiety.

4:34 his comments about the boarding school are a bit of a shot at his own parents, since he was sent to a boarding school himself. Which is why his Dad is so quiet and awkward when he says it.

Sounds like the Traveling Salesman brought home the Clap?

Or she was a shagging a man with the clap while her husband was off earning the bacon. Not outside the realm of possibilities.

If she had syphilis, she got it from her travelling husband.

A lot of women ended up in asylums because of menopause.😳 Two of my great grandmothers ended up, and died in asylums. 🥹

Oh that's heartbreaking. I'm 51 and going through it now. Thank goodness for pharmaceuticals and greater knowledge. 😢
