Great video - after 16 years, I recently made the move from a highly modified S1 Elise (215bhp on ITBs, nitrons etc) to an Evora GT410 Sport. I’ll miss the Elise, as I was bought it stock and did everything to it. It was also sublime on the right roads for a 1-2 hour blast. However, with 2 sons who both want to enjoy cars and doing more longer trips (with significant amounts of motorway miles), the evora seemed like a logical step. I’m still getting to learn the car, but completely agree with you on the steering - it’s amazing. It’s also a much easier car than the Elise to jump into and drive in a ‘spirited manner’, particularly in cold / wet conditions. The real shame is they sold so few of them - they really are a hidden gem! Numbers are hard to pin down, but I understand there are only about 50 2+2 manual GT410 Sports in the UK.
Yep I’ve noticed the models above the 400 are more often 2+0, that’s so awesome! You have an incredibly cool DadCar. Merry Christmas to you and the fam 🤙
Cheers Ben for causing me to reinvigorate my autotrader search thread for Evora’s - the MX5 is feeling slightly miffed 😂. Best wishes to you and the family and looking forward to seeing you the channel grow in 2024. Cheers, Kevin.
Lol 😂 it’s always the way, Jayemm has been sending me to autotrader multiple times a week for years 😅 thanks Kevin! Merry Christmas to you and yours too 🥰
My pal has one. The first time he took me out in it we were on the Scottish moors. It was a bitterly cold day and the cabin of the Evora 400 was warm and snug. I fell fast asleep. Not the reaction he was hoping for. Great video. Happy Christmas.
Hi Ben, hope your doing good. I love that car. Love the red leather. Love the exterior color even more. Great video. You and family have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Travel safe.
I've had an S3 Elise S, an NA Evora like the one you tested, and now potter around in a daily driver Evora 400. It's the best one to date! So far, completely standard. The gearbox in the 400 is much improved over the NA Evora, and the standard valved exhaust is just right for me living in a city.
Hi Ben, great video. I bought my Evora S Sports Racer primarily so I could take my then 3 year old out in it. He’s 7 now and still loves it. The car has been so reliable, costs peanuts to run/service and as you mention I think I could probably sell for roughly the same as I paid 4 years ago. The other thing worth saying is I’ve never had so many positive comments about any car I’ve owned. Seems everyone loves the Evora, even those that don’t know about cars, you will get let out at junctions, thumbs up from kids etc. If you want to review an S Sports Racer with the IPS gearbox give me a shout.
Great video, Ben. I own an S2 Elise that I hope I’ll never sell. There really is nothing like it in terms of feel and excitement -and I’ve driven all sorts of great sports and exotics. That said, as a father of a budding little car enthusiast, I am still on the hunt for another fun dad car that I can share experiences with my son in. Lately I’ve been test driving several cars that I feel like the internet tells me I should like, such as the 996, 997, and M3, but I just haven’t been able to fall in love with them. It’s so hard to compare anything to the feel of the Lotus. I think this video narrows my search. I think a supercharged Evora might be the one for me. I briefly drove an NA Evora years ago and fit my wife and son inside comfortably enough for little adventures, but the NA Evora didn’t feel like 99% of the feeling of an Elise with 50% more practicality like I wanted it to. I think the extra performance and theater of the 400 and GT might be the sweet spot of the Evora. Anyway, great content! I love your channel and your enthusiasm for dad cars.
Seriously, you must test-drive a 400. I've had the German stuff and while impressive, there's some secret sauce in all Lotus that makes it so much more fun.
Hello Ben, great vid. I have a 400, same colour in metallic grey with the black pack, but with the full red leather interior and silver wheels. It really is a fantastic car and I look forward to every time I take it out. Mine isn't a daily driver but there is no reason you couldn't use it for that purpose. To anyone thinking of buying one, it's worth saving up for and so much more exclusive than any Pork related product you may also be considering :-)
Lotus do style a lovely looking car. I like the Elise of course! I agree with you, get an NA if that fits your budget, they’re not losing any more money, and then get a 400 when the budget increases - sound financial advice from you there mate 😂😂👍🏻👍🏻
They are ALL a sweet-spot. I've had an NA, a GT410 and now a GT430 and they're all different but superb. Look up EVO Car of the Year 2009 to see what the NA beat, for instance!
Great Video, thank you. I am in a similar position, ex Elise 111R owner, now two daughters, in 'Dad Taxi' stage of life, very seriously looking at Ever 400 and Gt410s, love the video style!
Great video Ben, obviously a later series 1 Evora S is the sweet spot (supercharged shove, plush ride, Recaros) 😉 Couldn’t agree more - prospective buyers should just get the best one they can afford & start enjoying it 😎
Good vid , I had a N/A Evora for 9 years sold with 120000 miles and it's still going strong. I made money on the sake as well. Replaced with a GT410 Sport and wow its mega an animal when you want it to be. Great interior awesome steering and I think the best looks loads of carbon
Love your channel and the lotus you right they are rare don’t see much love the design but never got a chance to test drive I need to after watching this. I just bought a Maserati Granturismo as my dad car with the back seats and sound and style as my reasoning salute
Had many exotic cars last year bought my first Lotus and evora 400 it’s a great car that not many people know about. It’s a 2018 with a provenance certificate which says only 9 evora 400 where made in 2018
I sold these new when they first came out, and whilst the very first ones were a bit shaky they are phenomenal cars and in my opinion amazing value. I agree they are the sweet spot as I’m not sure they can justify the money for the GT430 etc. Love the video as always!
I did feel sad when they dropped that 2+2 for the Emira. You're not going to do long journeys, but there are times when you just want to be able to squeeze people of the right size in the back and give them an experience.
Would very much like one of these. Evora 400 seems to be the right balance in the range of performance, looks and price. A bit more special than the more obvious choice of a 911?
Loved my Evora s sr. To get my nipper in the back I took out all the rear seat padding and cut some cloth to replace it so it looked tidy ish. Gave a lot more space. It is a young child car though.
Another great video Ben. Im still saving hard for a 400 but Im lucky enough to have an S1 in the meantime which I've had for 8 years now and its a really unique car as well as Lotus owned it for the first 5 years of its life. I know l though if a get a drive in a 400 that would be it....😁 although I'd love to own both really but that would be just greedy...😂.
@@dadcars yeah, I agree. Seems to be a 10k plus jump between generations of car which isn’t insignificant. One car for you to try in the future will be the new 3 seater Caterham when it comes out. Gutted the Emira didn’t go down this route. Us dads with one kid need options!! Great channel ❤️👍🙌
I had an S1 elise that I bought new in 1998 and miss the steering feel. I need a 2+2 so the Evora should be the perfect car for me but I just can’t get over the looks and the interior. If it looked like the Emira it would have been a no brainer
Hi Ben, my daughter is almost 2 1/2 years old so I'm starting to look at isofix booster seats like the one in the video. It's a bit of a minefield though! Any recommendations? Thanks
Struggling to persuade the Mrs we can get away with an M4 because it doesn't have 4 doors......But I think she is right I don't need an M4 I need one of these. This is going to be a hard sell wish me luck.
Cool car and decent vid Now you’re full time are you able to move a little bit from child seats to a bit more spirited driving etc The dad car but is novel but I find the baby seat bit a bit overdone and wish there was more driving review There’s definitely room in the market snd you come across really well on camera
Honestly making memories driving the cars with my children is selfishly the most enjoyable thing for me and the thing I get most excited to do… I will do some spirited drive videos solo but I’ll never be as good as others at that 😊 I’ve been offered to drive some Supercars that you couldn’t get a little one in and I instead filmed another car and spent the day with my daughter 😅
I am in the final final stages of choosing between an EVORA 400 and a 911 Turbo (997.1 tip) - any thoughts? Putting a deposit down today and I'm still not totally sure.
The thing is the EVOR 400 is faster, lighter, handles better, sounds better than the new Emira... and lotus knw this... and tried to ban loads of bk to bk tests... lotus have messed up with the emira due to the climate con eu regs... what happend to light weight lotus. Emira wnt be hit... evora will for a lng lmg time... try the 410 sport? ANIMAL ❤❤❤❤
Hey Ben, nice one! Always loved Evora, but it's way to heavy 4 a lotus (cca. 300kg more than Exige), this only because of the thin "rear seats"? I don't know... Still would like to drive one 😊 merry x-mass everyone!
The exige is a track car really, the Evora is something you can daily. The weight has little to do with the rear seats as the Emira weighs the same or in fact more than the early evoras
If most of the Lotus owners I've had the chance of interacting with weren't such stuck up pricks, I'd love to have one at some point but I'd rather be a part of any other community than the Lotus owners after said interactions. 😅 I don't mean to bash the cars themselves, I'm sure they're amazing.
That’s interesting, I’ve seen that with some Porsche owners but not lotus. The best owners I’ve found are Aston owners! Very very rare to get negative comments from Aston owners
I’d have to agree with you, and I own the car, coming across from learning manual in an MR2, after having an automatic only licence for 10 years, it’s the sense of accomplishment and achievement that keeps me grounded! I don’t see the point of being stuck up, we all share the same passion and we should be able to enjoy it as a community.

Thanks Ben for another Evora video. Your first one convinced me to go for one and I am now the proud owner of a 400 with 2 child seats in the back.
That’s awesome! 🙌 are they isofix seats? Did you have to remove that pannel?
Love both early and recent ones. The final version will age well over the next decades but prices are massive!
Yeah I think only time will tell! Check back in 10-20 years time and we will know which one looks best 😅

Shows how comfortable it is.
I didn’t realise Lotus had rear seats! Defo not useable for regular adults. I’m short and even I wouldn’t fit in the back 😅
Thanks!! Merry Christmas 🎄 🥰 yeah similar amount of room to a 911 but as it’s a flat rear bench it gives more space for childseat 🤙
@@dadcars Merry Christmas to you and family mate 👍 yeah the rear bench actually makes it super stable for an ISOFIX 😊

For children up to 8 it's totally fine in the back. Afterwards it really depends on how much they are willing to compromise.
You can also get a lot of luggage in the back for longer runs/holidays.
