Porsche Cayman GT4 and Lotus Evora GT Owner’s Perspective: Which car do we prefer?

- In this video, my friend Al who owns a 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 drives my 2020 Lotus Evora GT and shares his perspective on the car. I then drive his car and share my perspective on it. These are both rear wheel drive, mid-engine cars with 6-cylinder engines that are similarly priced. After driving both cars, do we want to switch cars? This video could be helpful for someone who is cross shopping these two cars. The Evora is bone stock. The GT4 has Dundon race headers and Porsche Sports Exhaust. The knocking sound inside the cabin of the GT4 is the harness hitting the carbon seat back - we were using the seatbelts.
Big thanks to Al for making this video possible.
The video was filmed using a GoPro Hero 12 Black with DJI Mic 2 wireless mics.
Dude clearly has good habits. Only touches the shifter to shift. Major pet peeve when people lay their hands on the stick. Thanks for the content dude.
Thanks for the comment!
currently have a Cayman S with a DeMan 4.0 GTS X51(444 hp/2900 lb) and loving every minute of it and begs to be redlined all the time due to lightweight flywheel. I have always wanted to drive and feel the Evoras they looked good and sounded good plus the extra back space. Someday, so happy motoring everyone!
Your car sounds like a beast! I love the experience of a lightweight flywheel. Happy motoring!
Evora GT everyday.
Get the 3rd Cat delete pipe from GRP!….. best (and cheapest) mod you can do on the GT !! You’ll notice a huge difference, especially in the lower RPMs. And even at idle.
Thanks for the recommendation!
Just found your channel. Great review, really appreciate the type of comparison content that I wonder about myself.
digging the content, do you still have your fl5? would like to see a full garage tour / review video of all your cars and why you have each one.
Thanks! I appreciate the interest - I'll plan to give a tour of my garage. Unfortunately, I no longer have the FL5. I had sold it in prep to purchase a 991.1 Turbo S but that sale fell through.
Great comparison of these cars. The Porsche is definitely louder but they both sound great and look fun.
Thanks! Will you be going to the Mainline cars and coffee on Jul 14th? I plan to go that day.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee oh cool, yes I should go lol I’ve missed a lot of their shows lately (I liked them more when they were smaller back in Bryn Mawr and I also really like the McClaren shows more, although they aren’t having anymore until the fall).
Will you be bringing the Evora ?
Yes, I plan to bring the Evora. I'll send you an email to confirm / coordinate with you the Friday leading into that weekend.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee awesome! Sounds great.
Enjoyed this comparison! Keep up the great content!
Thank you!
Nice video! Always wanted to know what a Evora GT4 was like. It stands out in the sea of Porsches!
Thanks again for filming this video with me!
Hi Joe. Strongly recommend you spend $20 and purchase a wind shield for your mics. They will cut out all the wind noise and dramatically improve the audio on your videos. Once the video analytics are available you'll notice your views during the video will drop off once the wind noise picks up. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for the recommendation! I was bummed to hear the wind noise when editing. A high pass filter removed some of it but what remains is significant. Unfortunately, I didn't notice the wind that day. I'll start using wind screens.
Great video…..your video magnifies my regret of selling my 991.1 4gts. Something about the sound of a Porsche and how it screams near redline… Never had that thrill with the F90 Comp, a macan Turbo or ever with any one of my past cars. I would say the closest thrill of a Porsche was the thrill of my first car ever purchased. Was a piece of crap but was still awesome to get my first piece of crap. Your Evora GT sounds great. Have to drive that car someday.
Thanks for the comment! I hear you - I miss my 991.1 C2S and had contemplated getting back into a 991.1 (was looking at a GTS) or 981 Boxster Spyder instead of the Evora GT. I may still move into one of those in the future. With that said, the Evora GT is something to be experienced - it requires some effort to drive. It offers an analog and mechanical experience in a modern package.
Evora gt all the way more rare and looks way better
I appreciate the comment! I agree!
Fun video, thanks! I've had a 2020 Evora GT for a year now. Fabulous car, especially the way I've modified and tuned it. Very recently I got a 2022 Porsche Spyder. Why? The only lack I see in the GT is it has a roof and I wanted to have a convertible, lol They drive differently, but I feel very lucky that I can enjoy the difference - Vive la différence 🙂
Awesome to hear about your 718 Spyder! That is a solid purchase! What mods have you done to your Evora GT? I like having a convertible as well. I was looking at a 981 Spyder before I bought the Evora GT (the 718 was too much). I decided to keep my 997.2 C4S cab for the convertible experience. The 997.2 has sentimental value. I'm planning to do a comparison video on the practicality of the 997 compared to the Evora - there are probably 5 people who are interested in that, lol.
Question Joe. What wheel and tire size that you had on your panamera! Thanks in advance
Hello, the aftermarket wheels that I had on my Panamera were HRE RC100. The wheel and tire sizes are provided below:
Front Wheels: 20"x9.5", ET51
Rear Wheels: 20"x11.5", ET55
Front Tires: 255/40 ZR 20
Rear Tires: 295/35 ZR 20
The OEM wheel set up had the same tire size but the rear wheel was half an inch narrower.
