They are made from scrap/end cuts from another process. They are fine structurally. Very close tolerance, precision cuts and jigged. The pegs hold them in a perfect position. The inner and outer layers of roofing and siding along with interior wall is what holds them together. If you can envision a typical home ( Conventional Framing here in the west) without the interior or exterior wall , it is pretty flimsy .This is structurally engineered.

There is a reason why stick frame houses are built they way they are and that is because it is the fastest, most cost effective way we have currently. A good framing crew could get those walls up in less time, and there is no pre-engineered system. Set of prints, stack of 2x4s, and a nail gun and you have a frame.

This is a “DEMO” construction on a parking lot folks. Notice there are no plumbing pipes... sewer connections... electrical ... HVAC ... stairs... garage...doors... or closets... IT is a proof of concept. So calm down. You want the walls to take up less interior space... move the exterior walls out farther! Six men stacking a house in less than 24 hours using pegs and blocks works for me... if my wife and I could stack it in two weeks I would be pleased. A lot easier than trying to build a log cabin out of 800 pound logs. I see the potential for pipes, ducts, and electrical in those wall spaces AND a lot of insulation. Some time in the future I would gladly put 30 minutes into watching a tape of this house being “ permanently “ constructed in the real world... all your “CODE” requirements of anchors, bracing, and storm survival will be addressed .... I promise. We have been building houses the same way for fifty years... I like the innovation that computer design and laser accuracy in component manufacture has brought to the table. I have watched thousands of houses being built from conventional materials... the shame is that truckloads of scrap and cut-off gets hauled to the dump and wasted! This job had no trash! AND I will bet that at the factory where these modules were assembled they have scaled the components to completely consume the 2x4’s that they are cutting from... if there are ANY tiny scraps left I will bet they turn them into those thousands of pegs that they use to connect modules! All they have left is SAWDUST that they probably burn for heat! I would build a house out of LEGOS if plastic wasn’t so expensive! More power to engineers who come up with clever building modules that can be be adapted to multiple surroundings and locations... small portable components are key to off grid locations... you might have to make a thousand trips back and forth to carry it all in, but man has been doing that for thousands of years... rocks, sticks, mud bricks, logs, sod, peat, etc.
This house did not require the dozens of tools that I find myself tripping over on jobs. I saw rubber mallets, a sawzall, some ladders, some C-clamps, a laser, a nail bag for pegs. I usually have two truck loads of every tool I own ( if I leave ONE damn tool behind, that will be the first tool I need and the job goes to hell right there!) I have seen videos of houses made from bags of dirt, bottles, laminated cardboard, styrofoam, bamboo, cow dung ( no joke... in Africa!) glass blocks ,tires packed with dirt, dug into cliffs, chiseled into rock ... I love them all.

@ Randal Ramsey ; If this is a demo construction I think this system has failed. 6 men to frame up a glorified shed in 3 working days (24 hrs). If i buy land in a modern subdivision at 600m2 or less with a council ordinance house front designated a compulsory 6m from the front block boundry and 2.6m each side for side boundaries this system would reduce my internal house space by ? It hasn't been bricked over yet. A house 4 rooms wide would take over 2m of my internal, livable space.

Ok, I could see the argument for this type of construction if say, all you had were short pieces of wood....Like reclaimed pallet wood for example.....Then you could make the pre-fab boxes out of pallet wood and peg them together...(Even then I'd probably use wood glue or nails for that)...BUT, does it make any sense to take a perfectly good 8 to 10 foot long 2X4 and cut it up, only to have to reassemble it? All those cut pieces when they could have just left them intact....Again conventional framing beats this hands down...And from a strength perspective, which would you rather have? An intact solid piece of wood, or to have it cut up and pegged together in smaller pieces? Cutting it up into these small pieces to make your prefabricated boxes is alot of wasted work/man hours/ costs, ending in a weaker structure than conventional framing...
It would make sense if this was from waste or scrap wood.....Doesn't make sense cutting up perfectly good 2X4s though...

Dear Cydonia: I am in the building industry and I have contacts with a lot of people who have creative ideas for how to build structures cheaper. You won’t believe how many times I’ve seen ideas like this talked about in glowing terms, the perfect vaporware. I have been asked to get involved with these projects over and over again, and only once I did it. In that particular case it took about 10 times the labor and five times the materials as could have been done better conventionally.
The case of the project I am talking about it was a bathhouse 12‘ x 16‘, using something like cement and Styrofoam particles, and it was comical. The structures would have collapsed had I not been there, and possibly killed people. I believe I was the only one on site it was not a pot smoker, and I am not kidding. The structure remains unfinished to this day, some five years later, no roof yet, the owner wants to put a concrete roof on top of an Already tipsy structure, it is so funny. The foundation is wood and everything above it is cement, it is completely ass backwards. I refuse to lend my concrete mixer to the owner, telling him point-blank that I will not be even remotely responsible for the death of his communal friends.
Just a little editorial comment: marijuana is responsible for so many ideas, almost every single one of them ate terribly bad horrible idea.
