Hello my dear friends🙂 Thanks for the nice comments on the previous episodes. I read them all and I'm glad you enjoy the videos! I would also appreciate a lot if you can support my channel by subscribing! ua-cam.com/channels/4R2psHs0FQP7f2LRaS36ZA.html In this episode, I build a wooden floor construction and temporarily put boards on top of it to have something to walk on when I build the walls. When I will remove these boards after building the roof, and use them under the insulation of the floor to hold the insulation, then I will put proper nice boards on top of the construction. If you want additional information for the video, you can turn on optional subtitles in the video. Enjoy🌲
I appreciate the manual hand tool method a lot. When I was young I was pretty much scared of everything else than a hand drill, eventually I learned to like power tools through learning how to respect them and acknowledging the risks they carry with them if used incorrectly. Still if I someday hopefully have the same opportunity you have, to build a log cabin, I would likely do it mainly with manual hand tools also... No need to be super efficient with power tools when there's time to build, as the deadline is set by the builder, so why not spend the time to carefully build it 100% with manual hand tools! Awesome work!
Concerns: Need to remove topsoil under foundation blocks, use solid blocks rather than hollow concrete block, Have support on the beam ends besides screws holding it up, shorter joist span for 1" floor boards, don't put floor seam all on the same joist. You may outlive that floor. It is OK to learn from those that have gone before.
Good job again. Another stage completed, although I know you said just temporary, before the insulation. Fire-steel, shavings and off-cut sticks, Beef steak. Oh yes. It's wonderful.
Coming along nicely Matthias, keep up the good work. You are doing splendidly well with each passing Vlog that you make for us spectators, and admirers of your handy work. 👍
As always, a job well done. You most definitely have grit, determination, patience and drive Matthias. You're a true inspiration, not just for young men of your generation, but for all people. May I ask where you are, Sweden, Norway?
Matyas, buddy, beautiful video you "dropped" here. I watched 2-3 times while working on other projects at home. That new hand drill... pretty cool. Keep up the amazing work. May this cabin be filled with peace and joy.
I admire the work you do. But I've gotta admit I'd be all over a generator and battery operated tools. I used plenty of handsaws, brace & bit, etc when I was young. I also was glad to see that you got onto the floor before completing walls and roof. I've often wondered why more cabin builders didn't do that. It seems to make a lot of sense. Look forward to more!
I feel for you having to answer the same concerns over and over. Must get tedious. 😂 You are way more patient about that than I think I could be. I live in a log cabin built from local pine in the Sierras of California, USA. So watching you build is so helpful since my cabin was built just prior to my purchase and caring for a log cabin is not a common thing. Everyone seems have a different opinion. Good luck on your build and all my best wishes for your success.

I’ve always wondered, what would using a combination of both look like? I know you need nails for their sheer strength, but would adding screws here and there help, hurt, or just not rly matter?
You’re doing an amazing job! I love the proper support for the floor joists and going solid wood for the subfloor. The way you’re building this beautiful cabin, it’ll last a century. Im anticipating your next video! God bless and work safe 🕊🇺🇸
Brilliant work Mathias, once again from Canada I like your work ethic and really enjoy watching your videos. Please continue, I am sure all your viewers are anxious to see the cabin continue to rise.
With the seam on a single beam, it creates a week spot. Would be better to alternate the seam on opposite side, and with three pieces it’s even more important to scatter them throughout the floor. But this is your build and you do as it pleases you. Happy building.
Awesome work Matthias. You’re doing a great job and I appreciate the tedious work on moving the camera around. Best to you for the holiday season. Merry Christmas from Canada.
For those of you that have no have had a chance to build your own log home. There is no better feeling having your first meal sitting on the floor with your second corse of log as your back rest admiring your accomplishment the hard work the pain of muscle ache is gone until you get up and get back to work.
It is better to insulate the skirting than the floor. Also on the outside of your measuring tape will be written the width of your measuring tape. When you want to measure the length of something there is no need to bend over the tape portion to get the length. This can be an incorrect measurement. Instead just place the measuring tape against the object. Now add the number you see on the tape and the number on the outside of your measuring tape. That will be the correct length you need. I love your videos by the way. I really enjoy them.
I always wondered why no one used that tar protection like you did never made any sense to me, then I watched you do it smart move and you went over your logs and treated them while building your cabin KUDOS to you.

Just subscribed and watched all your work all at once. I've never understood using all hand tools unless its a budgeting issue. Thank you! Good question. These boards are just temporarily boards to have something to walk on when I build the walls. When I will remove these boards after building the roof, and use them under the insulation of the floor to hold the insulation, then I will put proper nice boards on top of the construction. I could not alternate these temporary boards because I had to add a temporary beam under the boards, which I would have to put on the other side also if I wanted to alternate the boards. I'm glad that my videos can help you. It is definitely better to raise the log cabin on pillars so that it does not rot from below. The depth of the foundation of the pillar depends on where you live and what the soil is like where you want to build. I didn't have to dig very deep because the soil here is quite hard during all seasons.
I’ve always staggered my floor boards in the floor joists. I have always tried to stagger building materials whenever possible in case of cracking materials or outside influences.

Snyggt gjort .
Of course. These boards are just temporarily boards to have something to walk on when I build the walls. When I will remove these boards after building the roof, and use them under the insulation of the floor to hold the insulation, then I will put proper nice boards on top of the construction.

I bet your dad is very proud of you. And he has good reason to be. Well done, Mathias.
Now that's a floor mate, far better than 8x4 chipboard sheets.
I would have staggered the floorboard joints to improve structural integrity. But great job nonetheless,
Brother, you're the best! You helped me become a Bushcrafter! You're my teacher. Thank you…

I am enjoying your one-man pace. And hand tools only stretches you.
Now, if you work it right, you could sit up on the roof and see this same vision only from a little higher. Good job so far young man!
Great job, just one piece of advice…. Don’t use screws for building ,use nails, much stronger. Leave the screws for decking.
I’ve always wondered, what would using a combination of both look like? I know you need nails for their sheer strength, but would adding screws here and there help, hurt, or just not rly matter?
Yes, screws can sheer off, while nails would just bend n flex.
Screws are stronger than nails…
Yes even construction grade screwed like GRK still arent to code and break easier than nails.
Code??? Only code he’s lives by is the bro code… lol… the strength would come from a stagger in flooring but I love the work!!!
Love it, no power tools. Always wanted to do this as a kid, life had other plans.😊

How are you making cuts with that level of precision? Special kind of saw? Or just pure genius carpentry?
It is better to insulate the skirting than the floor. Also on the outside of your measuring tape will be written the width of your measuring tape. Thank you! Good question. These boards are just temporarily boards to have something to walk on when I build the walls. I’ve always staggered my floor boards in the floor joists. I have always tried to stagger building materials whenever possible in case of cracking materials or outside influences.
Sorry, just read an addition to your post. Silly me. God bless
Your work ethic is on par with the 1800ds standard.

Houses made out of Logs look sturdy, not like flimsy houses made of small size wood.
What is the cabin size, 16 x 12 ft?
The interior dimension is 18ft x 14.7ft
What are all the tools youve been using to harvest the wood and build the cabin
Всё супер,молочина! Сколько метров изба получается? 5/5м?
Thanks. You almost guessed it. The interior is 5.5 / 4.5m
@@matt.jacobs1 спасибо! Продолжай в том же духе!
Very nice work but I was wondering are you going to insulate the floor and what about rodent protection?
Besides roof, the floor is very important. The ground can kill you very fast
How much the cost of each board in your place Matthias?
I'm not sure how much one board cost me, but I remember that I paid around 160 euros for all boards for the entire area I covered.
No insulation or vapor barrier?
Looks like a great start.
The boards are temporary, I will remove the boards and put a vapor barrier and insolation after the roof is finished.
