    Most of the albums you shared were some of the very first albums I bought when I first began riding the psych train. (At the beginning, I didn't know what I wanted to collect). But anyway, jump to the present...Whenever I'm out on a hunt...I always take a few extra minutes to see if I can find an upgrade copy for some of those early albums I bought when I had a much less critical eye. And for that very reason you mentioned. They can be found cheap. This was a good reminder and fun to watch. And I saw in this thread where others might continue that video idea. I hope they do. Good stuff, Bo.

      Casey Chambers I agree Casey. I always look to upgrade when I can. My early eye definitely was not as discerning as I am now. Plus then I have potential vclt or trade in material.

    Invaluable list Bo, a great resource for as you say 'building up the base of a good psych collection'. Crazy Praying Mantis below also has a good point (which is kind of unavoidable any time anyone talks 'cheap used records') is just how much price varies. Your Cream, Byrds etc big hitters are US$15-20 each here, while the Shondells, Prunes, Revere, Quicksilver etc were so niche they were never pressed here, or sold so little they won't be cheap if you ever find them.
    It makes me think that West Coast USA is probably THE place to be to buy the stuff you show. I'm not getting upset though, cos this video is basically a ready made shopping list for whenever I make it to the States!! 😍👍Great stuff from the PNW Professor of Psych!! 🍻👜

      Grandma's Handbag Dean the west coast is interesting. I’m particular the PNW. It had its own unique sound. Kind of a mix of garage and surf. Acts that were completely different in person than they were on vinyl. Check out Merilee Rush and the Turnabouts. Their album is meh but live they rocked Sonics, PR and the Raiders and Don and the Goodtimes. So many underground groups.

    Enjoyed this. Also, this video served as a "Can you find it in good condition" video. Enjoy and/or own most of these. One of my great joys is finding a super clean record of something that constantly sells for 4-8 bucks. Chances are it'll set ya back a whopping $12.

    I've been thinking about doing a video on psych cheapies for a long time. Watching this got me in the mood to share some of mine. Hopefully this week I'll chime in with a similar vid, share some that I have.
    I'm trying to get a new friend into psychedelia & she is very unfamiliar with the genre. So I been suggesting the standard, well known stuff to get her going. Similar to the ones you're sharing Bo.

    Nice way to start it off with Vanilla Fudge. I enjoy that one. Cool you have a UK press. Donovan is also classic. A great overview.

      Kevin Vinyl KollEctoR I appreciate that very much. I really dig both Donovan eras, the folk and the psych. Yes, I pitched the US in favor of the UK.

    I see some people have already mentioned postage etc for those of us overseas buying as these are not cheap common records everywhere Just as a counterpoint Bo I'll list some of the ones I've bought here in the UK from dealers over the last 28 years.
    Vanilla Fudge - paid £10 for a UK copy but its rough
    Quo - paid £100 for UK copy
    Quicksilver - £15 for UK 2nd press
    Monkees - UK copy £5 early 90s
    Iron Butterfly - UK copy for £30
    Electric Prunes - £70 for UK copy
    Byrd's - £30 UK copy
    Blue Magoo's - £40 UK copy
    Association - £18
    I could mention others from your list but you get the idea. Obviously UK pressings are a lot rarer than US pressings but even if some of my buys had been US pressings I would have still have had to pay a high amount in most cases. So not much to conclude other than being a record collector in the US is a much more fruitful and cheap hobby than most places in the world. Always enjoy the videos Bo...all the best Nigel

      @earheadsix4119  4 роки тому +1

      Nigel Campag comparatively there are albums that you can get on a budget that would cost us an arm and a leg. I don’t understand the point. But I do hope somewhere someone might find this helpful.

    • @nigelcampag1290
      @nigelcampag1290 4 роки тому

      Certainly not having a go at your picks or the fact they're cheap pick ups in the US Bo. Just thought you'd find some interest in the price range between a cheap US lp and a UK pressing of the same lp. Honestly there's not many cheap records here, even UK pressings of less desirable records are rarely found in cheap bins. That has been the record culture here for many years and continues to get worse. All the best mate.

    Good picks, I have a feeling most of these are more common in the PNW than up here in Canada, many of the ones I have I picked up cheap in Seattle and aren't seen quite so often here. It's A Beautiful Day is about the only one I used to see in the bins pretty often. Of course condition can be an issue with the ones that typically got a lot of play like Cream. Still never picked up Born To Be Wild or Crimson And Clover on LP, you'd think they'd be around but I never see those ones, weird. Cheers!

      Fat City Vinyl sounds like its time to hit up the PNW of the US. Funny, because if our proximity to Canada I see Canadian presses frequently.

    I have that Vanilla Fudge album. I don´t even remember the last time i gave it a spin.... The only album I have by the Status Quo is Pictures of Matchstick Men, Brazilian pressing, though... Gotta get me some Spirit.... I am ok with the first two Steppenwolf LPs.... I have some Paul Revere as well. .. Headquarters and Crimson and Clover is on my shelves too.... I love Surrealistic Pillow. I. In-A -Gadda-da -Vida is my favorite Iron Butterfly LP, Bo. And the first one I bought way back then... The Hello People is one I do not know. Only by name.. Lots of goodies till the end of the video. Wish I could find these records over here for that price range. See you, Bo. Nelio.

    Great video Bo , I agree Vanilla Fudge is great start to psychedelic music for a good price. I still don’t have a copy of matchstick men. Spirit rocks sad that Randy passed so young. I agree surrealistic pillow is a gem. It’s a beautiful day is such an underrated album and it’s everywhere. Fever Tree rocks.I really enjoyed the showing. I agree with your albums that are affordable and our solid albums. Cheers Sean

    Rarely see any of these in Australia, so it's the US or UK market we have to turn to which then turns a cheap album into an not so cheap one.
    If we find a record for $10us Shipping costs are double the price of the record.
    That's $30us which is $43 aud which is the cost of a brand new album here in Australia.
    You guys seem to forget that you're on the world wide web, you're not talking to your neighbour, these records may be cheap and easy to find for you in the US but we don't all live there.
