If you are eating from the shell without a spoon I suggest you rub some oil on your mouth so it won't be sticky. Very tasty fruit 😋 spent my childhood eating star apple everyday when it is in season
Here in Indonesia,we call it sawo beludru, but there is no pink color close to the skin. The skin color is soft green. part that we eat is the white part also and the taste is soo good. Pretty easy to get it here on its season. My friend or neighbour sometimes gave it to me. Or sometimes you can buy it in traditional market...
I purchased a star apple yesterday at my local farmers market here in Hawaii. I have never eaten one. Last night I cut it open removed the seeds and cut it up into cubes and put it I. The freezer. This morning I put it in the blender to make my morning smoothie! Oops! I did not know you only eat the fleshy white part! We enjoyed the whole thing in a smoothie without the seeds of course! 😬
This is a new one on me. Like these vids very much. Fruits such as lychees and Dragon Fruit are available seasonally here - love 'em. Nice to see what is available elsewhere.
So expensive here on the mainland. I lived in the Philippines for a few years and they were so plentiful and cheap and even free sometimes there, haha.
Tropica Mango sales them here in AZ, but it is East Valley, in Phoenix. So depending on where in AZ you live it may be a far drive. www.tropicamango.com/ you can also buy the tree at Shamus O'Leary's Tropicals www.greenlifebyshamusoleary.com/shop his nursery is in Phoenix. Looks like he has some in stock.
Thx for the vid. It reminds me of lychee. I’ve got an issue with the texture & the milky visual. But I enjoy the taste. Making a lil sorbet out of 2 lil ones.
@@jamestropicals8262 Maybe they will have them there now. I believe this is the season for them, for us here in the States. Well the beginning of the season. This is the first time I saw them at my market. When you get the chance head over there and see.
Bought 2 of these recently but they were mismarked as Passion Fruit. Cut open the first one expecting it to just be a large passion fruit. It was milky and hard seeds. Didn't seem sweet at all and the flesh was kind of mealy / slimy. The latex seemed like it was literally like glue, and dried my lips out. Was I slightly poisoned by eating that latex?
In the Philippines, we call this fruit “kaimito” where I snacked on them as a child. Here in Hawaii, I continue to enjoy these seasonal fruits. Love them!
Yep one of the different names for it! I had them in the Philippines as well when I lived there. I was there for two years in back in the late 1990s. If you look in the description box for this video I listed the other names it goes by. :)
Hi you will need to look for an International Supermarket, they may sell them there. In Maryland, H-MART has locations in Catonsville, Ellicott City, Frederick, Gaithersburg, and Wheaton. If you are near any of those cities you can check to see if they sell them, or just search Asian or International Markets on Google to find one close to you.
In The Kitchen With Matt I must have Thank you 😊 live in in the United States so that’s a little to high have u learned of any receipes u can use it in
@@lindaspillman1817 You are welcome! Awesome, if you have an Asian market near you or within a 25 minute drive, go take a look and see if they have any of the fruits I have showcased here on my show. They I am always interested to see how these fruits are priced in other areas of the US.

Good suggestion if you don't use a spoon. I always use a spoon lol
Interesting! I must look for those the next time I am in a large Chinese supermarket during the winter. Thank you for sharing, Matt!
You are welcome!!

Great idea putting it in a smoothie! :) :)
Oh, and I forgot to mention I paid $1.50 for 1 fruit.
@@shirleyefting5194 That's not too bad of a price for 1.
If I didn’t watch the video, I’ve of eaten the skin also-resembles a plum.
Can you die from eating the latex or skin?
This tropical fruit is famous in Asia. We love this type of fruit.
Indeed! All over Asia. :)
And Jamaica
@@dari3071 Yep many many places around the world.
Just ate one here in Philippines. Wow! I would never pay that much money for one. It cost about 10 or 20 cents here.
Yeah I remember when I lived in the Philippines these were everywhere. Growing on trees on the side of the road. Super cheap there.

Thank you, so glad you like these videos. :) They are watched less frequently then my recipe videos. So nice to know that you like them, haha.
The star apple (caimito) is not known yet in Spain, nor in Europe at all. Never tried it. I will see if I can find it next week in the market :P
Yeah, let me know if you can find it. If you have specific Asian markets there, try that. :)
@@inthekitchenwithmatt I will :P
Just picked a half dozen of these from a friend's tree here in Hawaii. Had no idea they were so expensive and wastefully packaged!
So expensive here on the mainland. I lived in the Philippines for a few years and they were so plentiful and cheap and even free sometimes there, haha.
I got one yesterday; the texture/taste reminds me of both lychee and mangosteen, though the flavor is much lighter.
Glad you got to try one!
Cool! My grandma just gave them to me and I looked up how to open and eat them! Haha thanks! Mine had a worm in it tho 😭😭
Yuck, worms!
Hi Matt. I never had a star apple before. But anything that has even a slight taste of lychee is worth a try.
Definitely try it sometime! :)
Watching this now while eating star apple😊 from philippines
Awesome!

you should be okay if you only ate a little amount of the latex. But yeah with these you only want to eat the inside and not all the way to the edge.
Where do you get these fruit. I grew up with this fruit. We used to have a big tree in our farm. Where is it here in USA
I got them from my local Asian Supermarket. :)
Great..Our Greener Caimito Here..
Thanks! Yes in the description box, I mention the name caimito as another name for it. :) It just depends where you live.
Thanks matt. Did the seeds ever germinate???
You are welcome! No I wasn't able to get the seeds to germinate this time.
Holy crap, your sweetened condensed milk-blueberry description sounds amazing. I'm getting one of these trees!
Definitely give it a try sometime, if you get the chance! :)
Wow 🤩 I thought it’s pomegranate

There is another rare type of star apple native to Africa the African star apple
cool!
ABeautiful fruit but not easy to reach especially the most tasty ones .
Yes!
U never mentioned the price ? doesn’t seem like they wouldn’t be worth it if u can only eat the middle there not bigger then a small apple or orange
Hi Linda, looks like you missed that part in the video. Watch again at the 2:15 mark, at this particular store where I live they were $9.99 a pound.
