Got here from his solo on I WANT TO BE HAPPY and Smiles with Lino Patruno & His All Stars. He get's completely possessed by the music towards the end. I was compelled to watch it a few times - you gotta see it. Inspiring and a joy to listen to, and what a line-up!
"What an inspiration it is to hear somebody playing in the service of the music" - True... true... Moving wind have a peculiar non-describeable quality to it... it flows through the heart and tickles the brain
@@clarinetninja Still on the "inspiration" theme: I was looking through my UA-cam history and found the video that inspired me to finally decide for the clarinet as my first windy toy... I'm not good at remembering names, but guess who? 😜 ua-cam.com/video/4JnXC3xxtww/v-deo.html
Evan is great! I used to listen to him all the time, down in the French Quarter’s New Orleans. Amazing clarinetist! He’s getting better and better all the time.
I met Evan in 1992 in college. It has been an overwhelming pleasure to know him and hear him play all these years. It is also fun when we take our daughters to the museum and zoo together. I am glad I got off my butt and went to hear him play last night.
That is true. Related to this idea...back when Evan changed to an Albert system clarinet (I had not seen him in almost ten years and didn't know) I walked into the club and actually asked him "why are you the only one mic'd?" His response "I am not being mic'd" There is something about the sound - which is clearly him...but also part of what the Albert system can do - that carries over darn near anything or anybody. It is something to behold. I was surprised by how clean the iPhone (with an additional mic) sounded given the environment.
I’m coming to NYC next month (November) and would love to see Evan. Can you share how I would find out where he’s playing? He’s a favourite ( can you tell I’m from Canada?)
Evan has a site named clarinet road. There is also a Facebook page. In terms of the ear inn specifically keep an eye on Jon Erik Kelso on Facebook. There is a different lineup every week at the ear. It’s always great but not always the same
I have to admit that I have no idea. I know Evan has a variety of Albert system clarinets but I have no idea what model he is playing. His equipment is much different than what I have experience with and is hard for me to contextualize
I can ask him next time I see him. I don’t know what brand, but I do know it’s an Albert system. I know the mouthpiece is very open. I wouldn’t think it’s a great place to start, but I am not the expert on that style of playing and what the starting place is gear wise
That is the real world of playing. You Classical guys & girls need a certificate to teach kids who will never play a gig. Clt is The Voice. If I could sing like Sinatra, I would get a hair-cut & buy a new suit.
It’s pretty clear I think Evan is great and I love this music. I do take exception to your characterization of how possible it is to make money playing. I know plenty of wealthy people who play classical music exclusively. The busiest people are the most flexible. Additionally, there are many ways to play music in a amateur capacity that are very rewarding for many people. Do you go down to the local rec center and tell the people playing pick up games that they are wasting time because they will never play professional basketball?

Evan is one of the most mesmerizing musicians I have ever seen. An amazing musician and wonderful friend!

What Evan does blows my mind. Always an inspiration to hear him play

@@GabrielPerboni that’s great! And….Evan looks nice all dressed up!
Evan is the best! Wonderful guy, great dad, and mentor and inspiration to many - myself included!
Totally agree! Evan is as wonderful musician and person that I have ever known. An inspiration and mentor to me as well!

That sounded wonderful. Would love to hear more of him.
Very nice tone and improv ability. Pleasure listening to him solo.
It is pretty amazing to hear what he does. Thanks for watching!
Soul, tenderness, curiosity. Awesome!
I love that tone and style, so much!!!
There is something so special to hearing peiple that can play in a small place with no amplification.
That is true.

Oh boy you gotta visit New Orleans. It's magical
Sends chills down my spine. Thank you for sharing this experience!
Happy new year!
Fantastic!
Please do the conversation with Evan!
I will do my best. It’s difficult to get us at the same place at the same time:)
Very Inspiring stuff.
Happy New Year!:)

Magnífico, gran parte de este sonido es gracias a las maravillosas boquillas de Vytas krass
What make/model is that?? That sound is gorgeous

Anyone know anything about Evan’s gear and setup? I am trying to get started as a clarinetist.

The clarinetist is tops! But the commentary is not. Let the music speak for itself!
