Very helpful - I only had to remove the lid to clean my glass, but I wasn't sure where the screws were - the cloudiness is now gone from my platten. Cheers!

i had to loosen the bolts on the drive motor for the motor to spin freely. always worth checking out
Thank you, i was unable to locale those screws. Mine has some dust under the glass, and i'de like to replace that organic glass (aka plastic) by a mineral glass.

My scans are coming out skewed by about a half-degree to a full 1-degree after having been transported in a suitcase. Do you believe it is possible to fix the skew?
If a human calibrated it then another one can recalibrate it for sure but how much time you would like to spend on it? It can be as easy as tapping one piece back in place or a huge challenge which can take weeks of trying and learning. I do these kind of things because I like learning and I use what I learn in other things. If you are not into repairing/building and just want this machine working then it will probably won't worth your time. You can take it apart with yjr help of my and have a look at the inside for sure. Maybe you will figure out what is wrong.
If reflective scans are heavily out of Focus, is there a way to adjust the focus for reflective scans, as in changing the distance between the Glass and the scanning sensor, sort of thing... our unit seems to be only badly calibrated for reflective scans, the film-holder for negs and slides work well and can be hight adjusted, so we had great scan from negs and slides....but the reflective scans seem to be bad because it is, most likely already badly calibrated already at the Manufacturer in Singapore themselves... at least that is what we are assuming... did you see anything that could be adjustedt to rrecalibrate the focus from sensor to glass?
if you watch it again you can see that there are two screws which holds the sensor board. I would loosen them and install some spacers between the housing and the sensor board just to see that kind of effect it have. If you are luck it can solve the issue. But it is weird that only the reflective scans are effected. I would lay some old negatives on the glass and made some test scans. If these scans are also very blurred then it is certain that there is a calibration issue.

I have no idea but best you can do is to purchase another one as parts donor and start swapping parts till you isolate the part which causes the error. It can even be engineered to fail unfortunately.... Its also possible that the hardware is ok but the software was programmed to fail... I wouldnt be surprised.
thank you so much for your video! I opened it up because the head is not moving at all. It makes 2x2 sounds and the lamp is going in to red flashing mode. everything looks perfekt inside, is greased and I can't imagine it's the motor itself?!?!? maybe you have an idea. thank you anyway
well first thing is to check if the scanning head is locked. There is a lock at the rear. Since you opened it you can move the scanner head back and fort. If it is free to move of course. Other than these you better upload a video here showing what is going on inside the machine

@@kenzotheband nice that it works again but be sure it is ok inside. i had the same problem. I was giving it a little tap when it did not wanted to work but one day hitting it also stopped working.
Got a question for ya; how do I get the belt clip back on? I do what you do except it locks the belt in place completely and it won't move.

Hello, Thanks for your repair video. Since last weekend, I adopted an ‘Epson Perfection v500 Photo’ scanner. However, I encountered a problem and hope you have an answer to my question.
Problem: On scans of slides, two spots show up consistently in the same places. The slides and the scanner's glass (both outside and inside) are completely clean.
Question: Could there be dust inside the Carriage Unit and thus on the mirrors or lens? If so, how do I clean it and avoid damaging this part of the scanner? Thanks in advance.
Hopefully there will be some dirt in the scanner so you can clean them. But how you can do it is totally depends on your skill, experience and tools. Even if i can explain exactly what you shuld do you can still fail. Carefully take the scanner apart and make videos of the process.
AMazing video. I would never be able to do this level of teardown. I need help with doing thetop cover glass. has anyone done it. i have some fungus in there
I didnt do it myself. Very likely someone did it but i dont remember any video about it....It cant be too hard. If i did it anyone can do it.
hello, i have the same scanner and have some white spots inside of the glass of the scanner. What type of cleaner do you suggest i use after removing top cover?
It depends on the stain. It can be cleaned only with water or you may need a solvent. Start with distilled water. Then add detergent if it wont work. Then you can move to lcd monitor cleaning solutions or some ammonia solution. Sometimes bleach can work. Then you can move to alcohol, acetone like solvents. Sometimes you oil the dirty area so you can dissolve the dirt inside the oil. Later you can clean the oil with solvents or detergents.
I am having issue with Transperancy Film scans. First carraige was hitting a screw. The thin guide rail system was bent. Applying pressure to keep the carrige to be able to pass looks like now the distance changed and it does not illuminate the film correctly. All is black. How to fix. How to I just buy the rail system

Direk demir eriteceksen o zaman propan için tasarlanmış uç al. Sonra da sac parçalarda test yap. Kaynattıktan sonra eğ bük sağlamlıklarına bak.
My scanner power up, the lamp turns on, it makes some regular scanning and then it stops working. The scanning head is unlocked and free to move back and forth. Any ideas??? Lamp stays on for about 5 seconds, then the power button in the front turns amber and it blinks.
Sorry but i have no idea. Best you can do is to find another one and exchange parts to see which part is causing the problem. Unless you can trobuleshoot the error.
Hi, I need your help with my Epson V330 Photo. By mistake, I loosened an upper screw in the carriage, the one that holds the lens holder. I put it back suddenly, the other screw was never removed. I've cleaned the mirrors and lens (i did it because it started to scan with color lines and I thought it was dirt). After that the scans are all blurred. Took to Official Epson Service and they said that needs a new carriage, but it's impossible to find parts. Any idea to solve this? I was thinking in disassembly the hole carriage, it's ruined after all...
sometimes mistakes happen. Very annoying but also necessary to become better. Sometimes it is better to take everything apart to learn how everything works. In that case yes you can try taking everything apart and assemble everything back together. Like a jigsaw puzzle. But first try to make the scanner focus properly. Try to adjust the height or other parameters. By the way depending on how you clean the mirrors and lenses it is also possible that they are not blurred or lost their alingment. Many possibilities for failure unfortunately. Better make a video about your experience for everyone else.

@parçala behçet my Epson 4990 can only scan documents. When I scan negatives the image preview is white! Everything moves freely, the up unit moves but there's no blue light as it should happen? Could it be a just a light/bulb problem? Does the upper unit have bulb or just the base unit? (for documents). Thank you in advance.
There is one light source a the bottom for documents and there is another light source at the lid for film. I dont know what kind of light source it has in the lid. Can be LED or cold cathode tube. It can be a problem with the bulb or the electronics which power/control the circuit. I dont know what color the light should be but there should be some light definitely.
@ I found out that a circuit in the upper unit it's actually broken. No chance to repair!Unless I can find the same scanner cheap like selling for parts and take that part from it. Thanks for replying anyway!
@@fotolookconde Almost everything can be repaired but if you don't have the tools then of course how can you. I am sure you can find a broken or even a working 4990 for cheap. It just needs patience.
@ I just found a cheap one and bought it!!! It doesn't come with holders to scan negatives but I keep the ones from the broken scanner!!!

If anyone is here because the carriage is jammed and making strange noises, check the transport lock at the back of the scanner. It's quite easy to knock closed if you can cleaning around the unit.
Quick question. I just got one for free that doesn't power on and I'm trying to diagnose the problem. It's getting power from the power supply to the board, so I was thinking maybe its the power button? Does the power button make a click when you push it in or does it just push in and return back to the same spot with no click?
It clicks but it still can be the problem. If you dont have a multimeter just order a cheap one and make measurements.

@@K3ithM0on Yes, the button is a physical on/off switch, it is bi-stable, so when you press it to turn on it then is held further "in", and when you press it again this hold is released and it pops back out to the off position. Sounds like your power button may be gummed up or damaged inside.

Is it the same as the V750?
I dont have any experince with v750 but i will be surprised if it was very different. I expect them to be very similar if not the same

I already checked its USB cable and Reinstalled drivers.........but problem could not be solved..........I think this fault occurred in his main Assembly /Logical board..........
perhaps you are right but maybe you are still lucky and it can be repaired.
