  • Epson V700 Photo Film scanner has some mist, haze, dirt on its glass bed. The dirt was on the inside. I thought it was solder flux residue on the inner glass surface. I tried different solvents, chemicals to clean it. There is also another video in which i took the scanner almost completely apart.

Also applies to the Epson Perfection 750, same funky screw covers, same screws, same strange hazing of the scanning glass inside. THANKS!

Hi there, thank you for the very informative video! It seems to apply also to the Epson Perfection V850 Pro, because it has the same screws / covers. I have two questions: The black plastic covers of the 4 screws are difficult and not easy to remove. Would you have a better way to remove it by now? Unfortunately, with these scanners, the glasses of the lid with the light unit also get dirty. Do you also have instructions on how to open this lid and clean the glass? Thanks very much!

what are the previous two questions? I dont see any other questions unfotunately. This question is not complete also.

    1. Would you have a better way to remove the black plastic covers of the screws without damaging them?

    •  2 роки тому

i did not tried it myself but i know that people use strong sticky tapes or hot glue to remove these kind of caps. You can try that. Propably hot glue will do the trick but if you decide to use a solvent to release the hot glue later then be careful which solvent to use.

Hello! What liquid did you use to clean the glass? Thank you!

    •  3 роки тому

I tried different chemicals but non of them really worked. Something chemically etched my glass. Usually alcohol or acetone is enough.

@@martingoerner8370 If you are still interested, taking the lid glass out is simply a matter of removing the eight screws on the lid and lifting the black plastic cover with the attached glass off. It is very easy to do.

Can you put link for tools which you used pls?

I always buy my tools from flea markets etc so they are never new. If you ask for a specific tool you can ask so i can direct you to a web page which you can find similar tools.

Great. I liked this video very much.
However, the choice of solvents was scary. Acetone, ketones and aldehyde based solvents are DEATH on plastics. That is why you experienced the "melting." Californians should also beware of new "reformulated" paint thinners which use ketones or the like as a portion to meet regulatory standards; READ THE LABEL! Also, avoid hydrogen peroxide; great for killing germs but very reactive and mostly water.
My best find for cleaning glass in the scanning context is a simple straight-chain hydrocarbon solvent like naptha or Stoddard solvent. My best cleaning of glass is using water and a strong dish detergent like Dawn that really cuts grease. But to gain sole access to the glass, you would be forced to remove it entirely from the frame. Lots of rinsing afterward and a soft cloth for drying.
