- I just really like this little hover camera and how easy it is to use; just open it, turn it on and push the button to fly and take videos or photos. A controller isn't needed to get those great shots and this drone allows you to be part of the picture. I think it's going to be a great tool for our videos and you might like it also.

Nice little unit. Miniaturization wins again.
WOW! That thing is cool. Now you can get shots you could never get before. Something like, You guys riding in your Tahoe down an steep road and that camera flying next to your window shooting footage of you riding along the dusty trail. Or even you cleaning off your solar panels on the edge of a cliff or following you around the top of a lighthouse. We were surprised at how good the audio is along with the high quality video, nice peace of kit.
It's a pretty amazing little camera drone.

Kind of ironic that I was watching X1 videos and yours was the 4th one I watched. None of the first three even mentioned that it had a "free flight" mode. In my anticipated needs, I kinda need to be able to fly it where I want it before I even turn on the camera. This can do that.
My only other potential gripe is range. Be nice if it can go 100m vertical and about half kilometer out and still have 10-15 minutes of flight time. And, of course, solid video at those ranges (assuming no obstacles)
I like the voice-over option on videos !! No more sound synch !!

This one fills a niche for an easy to deploy drone that is lightweight and fits in a pocket.

Amazing what they can do with the electronics today when I got to fly my first drone I never saw the 'Japanese' control setup I ran the drone right at myself thinking it was moving foreward! Now they almost run themselves.

I make regular use of my ebike, both around town and on trails, and love it. I don't think electric cars are there yet, but ebikes certainly are and give you all the range that you would normally need. Also, they're actually pretty simple.

I agree with the electric car not being there yet. I have driven a Tesla a very fast vehicle. I like complete control of my car driving. I don’t trust the autonomous part of it yet. Also not very many charging stations yet. We will use your discount in purchasing those bikes! Thanks again so much.

Yes, you can set it to lead you from in front. I don't know about the water part because learned the hard way to not fly over anything I didn't want to lose my drone in!

I remember that there was a very similar product on the market some years ago but of course it was totally inferior to this hover X1. It had the typical goodies like GPS but i think the key now is to have a really good software stabilizer involved, thats what makes the new action cams look so stable because they dont have a any mechanical stabilizers involved. The X1 has at least a basic gimbal onboard + good software stabilizer. 7 years ago there was a nearly identical drone on the market but it delivered terrible videos, it seems that this is the first good foldable mini drone and of course the tracking as evolved alot.
Really interesting camera. Maybe you covered this and I just missed it. But how does it not capture it's own flying/fan noise when it's hovering, filming you and recording your voice all at the same time? You hear the blade noise when your other camera is filming and recording you speaking. But when it's following, filming and recording you speaking, I didn't hear it's own propeller's sound. Really cool new toy.
It has a nose elimination processor in the app that you install in your phone that automatically eliminates its sound.

I would use the drone to scout for sites when the road in becomes sketchy and avoid a long back-up session!

Yes, from the back or the front and at that low speed, but that's with the wind permitting.
Like the drone but still would love to see the price come down. I think it was this video but maybe not when you mentioned on how you did some sailing together. Just wonder if you did some videos on that?
Our sailing days were before video. Heck, it was before GPS and satellite communication! It was sure fun though and I should at least tell some stories.

im curious to know how loud is it? because I would love to use it for when im playing golf but I don't want something making a loud and obnoxious noise
It's a drone with 4 propellers on it so it does make noise.

Neat little gadget. I suppose it would still require a drone license to use it for commercial purposes (sorry if you did mention this in the vid. I got pulled away a couple times and missed some of what you said)? I'd love something like that. But I don't want to go through all the stupid licensing requirements. But I do look forward to seeing you use it in your vids. I think you'll probably get some very nice footage.
I was also curious whether it required licensing requirements. Because it has a short filming time and may have a height limitation. I’m hoping that it is excluded from those requirements.
I looked online and found the following FAA exception:
All drones must be registered, except those that weigh 0.55 pounds or less (less than 250 grams) and are flown exclusively under the Exception for Recreational Flyers.
According to specs, this drone only weighs about 125 g even with the battery.
@@sshultz8121 yes but if flying for commercial such as a monetized UA-cam channel, it could still require a license. I suppose it is likely classified as a drone. And the license would be needed.
For commercial use it will still require a 107 license and I've decided to go ahead and get mine. The thing that I don't know about is if it will need the Remote ID that will go into effect in September of this year. There's no way you can put that onto this little camera. The new law isn't very well thought out. This little camera won't fly above average tree height, so I don't think it's much of a hazard to aircraft.

They are listed on Indiegogo at $329 till they sell out and then the price goes up.
I am curious. Does this drone have built in remote ID on it? From what I can see reading the FAA regulations recently implemented remote ID and will be required by September 16th this year unless you only want to limit your flying to a Designated FAA-Recognized Identification Area, which apparently do not exist yet.
Further research indicates this unit appears to not require registration with the FAA as it weighs only 126 grams, well below the threshold of .55 lbs. (250 grams) that does require FAA registration. Not to mention with a max flying height of only 50 feet it is not remotely near any airspace.
It's still unclear if the FAA is going to make it need remote ID for commercial use. You'd think there would be a waiver for this little drone.

Yes, absolutely. You can charge off of any power pack that you would use to charge your phone.

So far it stays locked on me, even with other people around. You have to launch it with the camera facing you and at an even elevation with your face.

I know I'm going to want what this has to offer, and I can't afford to have more than one. I've looked at models with greater distance, speed, and wind tolerance, but I really don't think I need more than this, choices.
Good luck! Yeah, it's totally different in that it can be autonomous and quickly deployed. Nice feature, but it won't go as far or as high. That wasn't important to me for the type of work that I do.

Thing looks really nice. If it will follow a horse and rider they have a huge market there. Every kid will want it for a trail ride. Don't know if they are looking for others to show it off but I know 3 channels that could really show it off for riders. Sleep Ranch, Anchor Brand Ranch and Trinity Vandenacre. They do horse and Ranch and are nice people.
Does the battery charge 120Volt or can it charge off of a USB battery pack? If it can charge off a USB you would need to change battery but you could charge it easy and use it a lot longer. Thanks Rick that is one of the best things you have reviewed. Stay safe and healthy.

Everything, and especially all electronics, are made in China. The US hardly manufactures anything any more and if we did, this drone would cost 4 or 5 times as much.
I love it, but could it follow you in a crowd. How does it identify you? That is the question. Tech can be scary.
It does follow you with pretty good accuracy when other people are around. I have no idea how it does that.

What about crowd of people?
As far as I know, you're not allowed to fly over a crowd of people with any drone. Please check the laws of your area.
A drone is a drone, even if they label it as a camera. So, UA-camrs using it still need a Part 107 commercial drone license. Hence, this isn't going to be the primary drone for many people who have invested that much effort into drones. Might make a good second or third drone for them, for safer close-in filming than most other drones.
I'm not sure if its best market will be for that, or for truly non-commercial use at family outings and things like that, as you recommended. Or as a toy/tool for well-off kids, HS yearbook photographers, etc.
I contacted the FAA about it and they said that it can't be used for commercial (UA-cam) use because it can't be fitted with remote id. That's a bad call as far as I'm concerned, because you can't make this little drone fly higher than 50 feet or farther than 90 feet. I can throw a rock that high.

The Hover is paired to your phone which is how its controlled. The audio comes through your phone's mic.
