Here’s my initial review of the Hover X1 self-flying camera drone! This thing is crazy! It locks on to you and automatically films great looking shots, making sure you’re in the frame at all times.
With no controller needed, it’s as simple as switching it on, choosing a flight mode, and pressing go! It folds down really small, and weighs only 125g (including the battery) so it’s ideal for hiking, wild camps, trail running, cycling, or any other activity you want to capture.
With the camera supporting up to 2.7k, the footage looks great too - check it out!
Thanks for watching! Ben 🤓

This is probably the best review I’ve seen of this drone. Simple and to the point but not missing anything… well done 👍🏾
Thanks 👍
For those who don't want to bother learning fly a drone and just need znazzy cinematic shots that looks ideal.
Yup. Perfect for lazy folk like me 🤓😆
Fabulous piece of kit! For a guy born in the 70's, I see this as witch craft. 😵💫
So do I and I’m 80s! 😆
Nippers 🙄🙄 (born in 60's 😭😭) Love how technology can help. Admittedly some tech gadgets just goes over my head in understanding it 🤪
@@mandyfinden2707you know more about technology than 20yo who play games on their phone and watch 7hours of TikTok a day. Believe me
Born 40's, lol love it!
Born 1954,it is what I dreamed it would be.
Brilliant piece of kit for a small channel with 1 person doing all the work. I really like the orbit, birds eye view of the thing and the zoom out and in mode... whatever that's called.
I've heard others complain about the image quality. It was super helpful that you made the video files available for download. Looks like the quality is clearly good enough for the main use case - social medial content. Thanks, Ben, great work!
👏🏻 Another great review - alongside you recent cheap Temu tent one. Keep up the affordable gear testing it's very much appreciated and completely valid. All the best, stay safe.👍🏻
Looks good. Thanks Ben.
Thanks for the review, loved it..! Looks simple and fun for hiking and wild camping where you want great shots of you and your surroundings. Loved it so much, I ordered one, thanks 😀
Nice. Enjoy it 👍
Thanks for the review and the 🔌 just ordered mine
Looks a decent bit of kit, I do find flying my DJI drone as easy as you'd like on a hike, it is definitely something you need to set aside time for.
love this!
SIMPLY MUST HAVE!!!
Fun bit of very friendly kit.
Really good review and a cracking advert too😊.👍🏼
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE VIDEO U R SO AWESOME ❤
Lovely 😍
Awesome - I’m getting one
Content creators will love this.
What a cute little drone. GREAT review by the way. I may just have to get me one. Thanks 4 sharing. Cheers!👀👀👀
Looking forward to seeing more of this 👍
It’ll be out on all my camps 👍
A good pragmatic review. Thank you.
Much appreciated! 👍
Genius piece of gear
I like it! Looks good.
Looks amazing! if only my life was interesting enough to film.
Love it!
👍
That’s awesome so simple 👍
Just like me 🤓😆
Very impressive....I need that 👍
Looks soo easy to use. Not bad sound can tell the difference slightly, really good like it want to see more 😊 snazzy
More to come mate 👍
Seems pretty cool 😎
Value for money. I can't wait for its next iteration, but even this is already really good. Hassle-free set up :)
Looks very good Ben a very easy to use
So easy even I can use it 😆
I just ordered it, great video and review btw 👏
Hope you enjoy it! 👍
Just seen your video funnily enough just ordered one today seen lots of videos and not one faulting it.
Like you I have a Mavic Mini and find it faffy setting it up I bought the Mavic for cycling but only used it twice its difficult with Controller in your hand along with phone while cycling.
I recon the Hover will be ideal pop it in Jersey pocket and whip it out when I want to use it .
Cheers for video.
Exactly that. Enjoy it 👍
Looks a nice addition actually, I usually can't be bothered setting the drone up, this looks like a good in betweener.
Exactly 👍
Looks good 👍
Very cool. Sky net is taking over.
Sure is. Now I just need a fleet of these linked to a ChatGPT controller 🤓
Good find!
👍
I think it's brilliant 😮
Wow i want that HoverAir drone
Great little drone for simple shots. I think the best thing about it is the follow mode.
Agreed. I'll be using the follow modes most I think 👍 You should test one out on your bike!
@@DaleyOutdoors I was thinking that. It’s the only feature I miss on my drone. How fast does your one go?
@@thebikepackingadventurer 15mph
@@DaleyOutdoors okay so okay for off road riding as not downhills. Looks decent and compact
Nifty bit of kit that Ben, I like simplicity too... I'd probably use this more than a DJI type.
The noise was my biggest concern, but now the explanation answers that
Nice video. I'm loving mine,
Good to hear 👍
Running on camera!
🏃🏻♂️💨
“BYE BYE DJI” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Boom!
Wow. What a piece of kit. Noise cancelling too. By Eck.
It’s mad isn’t it?! Whatever next 😬
Nice video I literally just uploaded some footage out and about with my Dji drone
Wow 👍
That is great Ben I’ve been put off getting a drone until now, how easy is that cheers for sharing 👍🏻
So easy even I can do it 😆
@@DaleyOutdoors fav channel, great info friendly dry humour. Carry the hell on or I’ll have to start talking to wife in evening 😉
Cool introduction - very comprehensive for a start! What I really would like would be a direct comparison between a - comparable - DJI and some stuff like biking-follow, car follow, landing on pre-defined location points (not going back to the starting area) - something like that.
It won’t follow a car - max speed is 15mph. And it’ll only land on your palm.
@@DaleyOutdoors Thank you!
I'm so excited I think some wee came out! I have been wanting a drone and literally said to my hubby earlier about one and this looks perfect!!! Thanks for sharing Ben, I'm off to do some research and maybe send a cheeky email...... 😀
Steady on Karen! 🤣🤣🤣 Go for it - if you don’t ask you don’t get 🤓
@@DaleyOutdoors 😂🤣 I was excited!!! 😂🤣😂
Looks pretty good, though i will stick with my DJI Mini 2 which suits my needs better.
Just ordered one I am a DJI fan but set up because a pain sometimes.
That is so cool I thought insta360 had designed and built it. Mk 2 will be a bigger battery.
love to see how it preforms over water
It doesn’t 😆
@@DaleyOutdoors so why include kayaking in the "activities" you listed as a good use?
Looks promising. I would buy it if it has atleast the same quality as dji
It's a great piece of kit. Does slightly pixelate around you like you are being followed by Predator! 🙂 Tempted to get one myself for my next trek.
Did you have quality set to max on the UA-cam player? It looks a little over sharpened to me, similar to mobile phone footage. I believe they’re adding an option in to the app to tweak the settings though 👍
@@DaleyOutdoors I maxed out the quality setting and it was much better. No pixilation at all 👌
The pixelation around you was virtually absent on the 4k footage on my phone and tablet at both auto and high resolution settings, but disconcerting on the tablet and noticable on the phone at 2.7k on auto. It improved on both to quite acceptable at high res.
@@DaleyOutdoorsit’s the stock answer I’ve been getting from UA-camrs about these pixelated videos, we’re not all idiots plus how can you not see it for yourself ? It has trouble with rendering grass
@@TopblokeGolf the two replies above yours changed the settings and resolved the pixelation they were seeing. The quality looks fine to me when editing. Visually the same as my GoPro footage when rendered out to h.264. Once uploaded that’s as far as I can see 🤷♂️
That is best
it seams like a good item for people who dont like filming it that make any sense 😃
Like me 😆
@@DaleyOutdoors i kind meant as in i am the type of person who go to mountains and stuff to clear my head all i wanna think about and do is nature .... that thing seams to do most things it self ..... but i guess you know what i meant (never film or take pictures or post anything)
Blimey Ben, that is a stonking bit of kit for what it is. 11 mins per battery is alright really as not many in this community send a drone up for too long anyway.
Nice of the folks to send it to you.
It sounds low but it’s plenty. Both batteries can bd charged in less than and hour, and there’s no power lost getting in to position and lining up your shot etc. I really like it so far, mainly cos I’m lazy 😆 let’s see how it goes over the next few vids 👍
@@DaleyOutdoors Sounds like a winner.
I’ve just checked the price via your link in the description. Not too bad a price 😉👍🏼
That's just bloody magic , Let me guess made in the UK lol.
I’m a Real estate broker in Florida as well as Michigan here in the US.
I can see this being super beneficial for myself or maybe even someone in interview like setting. For me, I can level up my social content and become more consistent in my uploads.
With 4 children, Often times, it’s hard for my wife and I to do what our dreams are as far as providing value to people.
Thank you for sharing this, I haven’t heard of such until this video :)
Glad it was helpful! 👍
Love the noise cancelling AI
It’s a great feature 👍
That looks nice. Could you possible record how it does in tracking and dollying you in a crowd
As long as it’s locked on to you at the start (I.e takes off from your palm) it’ll lock on to you. I wouldn’t recommend using anything like this in a crowd though tbf
Great review. My type of review. No bs.
It's a neat little piece of gear. Worth if you can put use to it professionally. For 450-475USD it's a bit much for any other use imo though. Unless you have that type of disposable income. But if say someone could find one used or on sale down the road for 300USD or so that would be worth it to make your own vids for personal use or non professional use. I can imagine how good this drone(and drones like it)will be after a few iterations.
Again, this was a really good review. Subbed for more in the future.
Thanks for watching! Appreciate it 👍
Great device with of a hellova price :)
You may now be ready to go out on a camp with that heavy guy with the good dog , enjoyed your trip with him
Waiting for an invite 🙄
Really neat, but presumably there will soon be a version able to take off from an outdoor base unit, which will latch on to anyone crossing private land.....
There are already drones that can do that
That looks very handy for your videos. Will save the legs trudging to and fro when out walking and free up hands from using selfie stick.
They need voice activation as well - train it like a pooch to heel or follow 😂
Good idea 😆
Nice review. Best quality footage I've seen so far. Can you download footage to a computer via USB or must it be to a phone?
I _think_ you need to download it via the app, though to bd honest I haven’t even plugged the drone in to USB yet. I’ll see next time I use it.
Great bit of kit! Does everything you need it to, if you just want to get a few aerial shots for your vid.
Exactly 👍 nice and simple just like me 🤓
@@DaleyOutdoors and it won’t cut your thumb when you send it up with your palm. Bonus!
Looks like a great bit of kit, I’m looking for a drone to take my channel to the next level. I was looking at a DJI mini but this looks really good. Can it get those cinematic shots up high to really show your location?
No with this no, it needs to see the ground so will only go up to 15m
I've been looking at this and watched a few vids, it is a fantastic bit of kit , I love the fact it has audio and the follow me settings, but I've decided for the price they are asking I'll stick with my dji mini 2, now be 100% honest if you had to spend over 300 of your hard earned own money on this would you have bought it ?? Great freebie though Ben 👌 👏
For the short bite of B roll I use in my videos I’d go for this over s DJI. £275-£300 feels about right to me. It was cheaper pre-release but maybe there’ll be an offer/sale at some point 🤓
Looks a good piece of kit but how does it perform in different weather rain wind and maybe snow
Rain and snow - it doesn't. Wind - up to 18mph.
Great review, looks awesome! Does your iPhone need to be unlocked with the Hover app open to record audio from iPhone? Or will it record with app open with iPhone screen locked?
While in a certain flight mode like hover, can you use any hand gestures to take a photo? Would love to purchase but doesn’t ship to Australia!
The phone needs to stay unlocked. There’s a separate mods for photos 👍
Nice. Can you direct me where I can buy one of these . Having difficulty finding it
That looks a good piece of kit Ben but I do think it`s expensive for what it is ! It`s limited in its applications compared to a normal drone and more expensive. Just my thoughts 😀
I’ve got the original DJI Mini and I’ve ordered the Hover X1 and with the launch 24% discount it was quite a bit cheaper than the original Mini was and half the price of the current Mini 3 Pro. The Hover X1 isn’t nearly as capable a drone in the way those DJI Minis are but then they cannot do what the Hover X1 specialises in - that is autonomous tracking and video with no remote required and no set up to get into the air plus the clever audio feature. It’s got a feature set that will be appealing to a certain set of people that the DJI drones cannot handle. I do bikepacking, lightweight adventure travel in out of the way scenic places. The DJI Mini is great to get environmental footage but frankly with my light bikepacking set up, the 250g mini plus remote is a bit big and heavy whereas as Hover X1 at 125g and no remote will slip into my limited bag space and no faffing about to get flying to be my autonomous cameraman capturing my adventure.
Yep way over priced for what you get compared to other drones
@@shred3005Hover X1 is a nonsense. Dji Mini can do all those shots and so much more. The price is a joke. You want to know something more capable and more portable? Insta 360. It does all that joke of a “drone” is doing. Sorry but Hover X1 is not something to recommend for anyone at all.
That could be very useful , any stats on max range and height, can it transmit straight to phone in real time ? Cheers A
It’ll only fly away 15m from you in any direction. You can do a live preview and remote control in the app 👍
I like the modes, except I try to never include myself in the frame. Is there a complimentary mode that does what you show, except for not including yourself in frame ? I want to capture my surroundings without taking a picture of myself, although sometimes it would be nice to have the audio recorded (not the image) of myself.
You’d gave to use manual mode. This is probably not the drone for you 😊
I love the simplicity and the feature set. Very well thought out and useful. Unfortunately, I'm not so impressed with the quality of the footage; color transitions and detail are not great, and the pixelation is a problem. An improvement there in the next version will make this thing a beast.
Did you look at the raw footage?
@@DaleyOutdoors Yes :-) I opened it in Davinci Resolve to see if I could improve the color, but I didn't have much luck... but I'm hardly an expert. Maybe there are color settings in the X1 that would be more to my liking. There's a lot less pixelation in the out-of-camera footage, so I'm assuming that that happened during upscaling or compression or both, but the footage still has that "sharpened" look that we get from smartphones (or at least, used to). Still, it's certainly not bad... there's just some room for improvement for the next generation.
@@MatthewGore hopefully they’ll enable sharpness settings soon 🤞
Hi - I need straight line establing shots on buildings and maybe slow assention shots of buildings (50 ft is fine). Is the manual control on the App OK for that.
I haven't tried it yet tbh. You'll have to either wait or check out some of the other videos on it 🤓
Thanks for the review Daley. QUESTION: If I'm standing on a mountain summit and fly the X1 over a cliff edge will the drone maintain it's height or dive down out of sight and potentially lost? Cheers.
ua-cam.com/video/ta8dihh2Yyk/v-deo.html
Just had another watch of your drome video looks a great bit of kit,but seem's expensive for me. Any other recommendations?
I haven’t used any others yet, other than the DJI, and this suits my needs better
Thank you for your quick reply.
It does show a little "artifacting" around your body when moving...I'm assuming this is from the stabilization of the camera.
Probably UA-cam compression. Check the raw files in the description 👍
Here endeth the walk-away shot
Never! See my latest vid 😆
Can you please demonstrate how you cancel the drone noise from the video using the AI you mentioned, it will be much appreciated
I did… it’s automatic.
I've been seeing this for ages and thought it was just w gimmick but actually works pretty. Sorry if I missed it, but does it take an sd card or built in memory?
32GB built-in 🤓
Nice drone, so nice video quality, Couldn't be better.
Did you have quality set to max in the UA-cam player?
You was right, my settings was all wrong,. Am sorry , hope you forgive🥺@@DaleyOutdoors
@@larspetersen2688 I knew it 😉
Finally a drone for the likes of me who cannot be bothered too much 🤣🙈 Love the follow mode
Meh……only shipping to the US, UK and Germany…..
Haha exactly! I’m too lazy for drone controllers. First world problems I suppose 😆
@@DaleyOutdoorsSadly they are not shipping to anywhere else except UK, US and Germany…..oh well maybe at some point I could try and get one as this is what I’ve been looking for to enhance my videos. It would be amazing to use up here in Lapland!
@@MattinLapland sure would! 🤞
@@DaleyOutdoorsok well I reached out to them to ask about shipping and they said no, only to those 3 countries so I’m not going to buy their products. Honestly customer service these days is just awful. I feel like I have to go through hoops to try to get certain products as everyone of these companies are so darn awkward.
Oh well Hover have lost a customer too bad…..
@@MattinLapland shame. Their loss! Can’t be too hard to ship globally these days.
Do you think it can fly while holding my insta360 Go 3?
No.
Cheers so much is it louder than a mini 3, as i live in one of Australia's largest tourist towns and would like to use it along our esplanade? 😊❤
No idea, I don't have a mini 3 😆 I'd say it's quieter than the Mini 2 SE if that helps?
Nice review! Can this drone do shots of Buildings from the birds eye perspective? Or lets say, do a 360 rotation around a fixed point from a higher altitude? Or is it only suitable more or less for footage where it follows a person or tracking moving objects? I am missing a few words about its versatility beyond what we have seen here...
It needs to track a person and see the floor. If you send it off a building it’ll fall 😬
@@DaleyOutdoors Thanks for replying. What about the drones Manual Mode? I learned in another Video review, ua-cam.com/video/XVZnajcd-xY/v-deo.htmlsi=nK0PkE18b7zI0VnW , it can be operated like a classic drone using the App?
@@MatthiasRosin I haven’t tried manual yet.
How does it cope with hills? Does it stay at the same height from the ground?
How low will it fly? Can you set it at knee height to follow your legs or at tail height to follow the dog?
It locks on to you so will follow you up and down hills. There are three heights for the follow modes.
3:06 me podrías decir que modelo de trípode usas? gracias
Ulanzi
It is a moving selfie stick
A moving hands-free 15m selfie stick 👍
I thought I saw in a different video about this camera that you can call it back to you by holding out your hand. Is that true?
Yes
Everyone talks about the audio recording but, noone has ever shown or explained how it works. Do I just plug my lav mic into my phone and turn on the camera app, voice memo or the drone's app to record my voice or what because, I'm sure you don't just plug a mic in & speak to the phone without turning anything on.
You use the drones app
Can it orbit AND follow at the same time?
🤷♂️ in theory or should. I’ll try it next time I’m out 👍
