I wouldn't say these are watches to avoid, they're great watches - but just watches to make sure you've tried on before buying. So 'Watches not to blind buy' would be a more appropriate title.
That wouldn’t garner as many clicks
Yeah. Kind of disappointed in this channel for the misleading clickbait title.
I think if someone buys a watch blind without an good returns policy and a mind open to returning if they don't love it, they shouldn't be buying that watch.
I own one of the watches on the list (the Black Bay 54). I tried one on at an AD despite not even considering a submariner-style watch before, and I absolutely fell in love with it immediately. Months later it's my daily driver and I have no regrets whatsoever.
3 days ago the Omega Speedmaster was "The Best Watch in the Entire World"
Stay away!
Oh My God, Look Out, The Speedmaster Is Right Behind You!!!
Maybe "The Best Watch ..." is not your watch . The Moonwatch is the best watch in the world , according to many people , due to heritage , clear and simple looks and unchanged design over all the years. Many people like , but does that mean you HAVE to like it too ? If many people say , jump off that cliff it is the best experience ever , do you need to do that also ? If you like to swim/dive with your watch , the Speedy is not the best watch . If you wear your watch in activities , the hesalite version is not the best watch . For every reason somebody says it is the best watch , somebody else can give a reason not being it . Both are correct , if you buy 1 , it is your watch , just because somebody else likes it , doesn't mean you like it .
someone didn’t watch the video 😂
Hey you figured it out! These videos and their opinions are totally meaningless. They're just made to get views/keep you addicted to watches.
I don't think any of these watches should be avoided. Great watches, every single one of them (even the Navitimer). I have all CasiOak colors in my collection.
My thoughts exactly. One example being Tudor Black Bay 54 having a 37mm case is presented as a drawback but it's a SELLING POINT for me. I don't like massive watches that are bigger in diameter than my wrist. I think that watches that are 45mm and above look awful on most people unless they have the tree trunk sized wrists to support the dinner plate they are carrying around on their wrist.
@@sonnypally6 I have the 1926, it's even smaller (36mm).
I dont get it? These are all fine watches!
Wednesday: Speedmaster is THE BEST watch. Period.
Friday: Avoid the Speedmaster. Its a manual wind.
Don't get the seamaster because it's titanium and too light. No need to mention the standard steel model is half the price of the bond watch.
@@matthewsmcdill And you pay more to get less. No ceramic bezel, no bracelet, no glass caseback, no wave dial.
@@Sicarius888 nico Leonard had the same complaint. Sold his NTTD because it was too light. My brother in christ, the standard one is perfect for you.
Find the watch you like and then wait a year, if you still want one after 1 year its safe to buy.
Incredible framework, honestly!
Last year I wanted the prx an an orient, right now I don't even want to look at it😂
Unless it's an extremely limited run that is expected to sell out. Plus, you gotta look at the way inflation is going these days.
I bought a Casioak in black with contrasting white hands and markers. But the negative LCD display it comes with is almost impossible to read. So bought a gray Casioak with a normal LCD display, and swapped that module over to the black case and dial. Then added lumed markers too. Much easier to read and use. Too bad it ended up costing around $300 to make it useful.... Oh, and in the swapping, I broke the backlight off the module, so that was cool.
Agreed and Yet Casio continues to make models with negative displays smh.
@@jonathanturner4220 Purely for the looks, and people buy them because it looks cool and stealthy and tactical, who cares if you can't tell the time?
The Tudor BB 54 is still a stunning looking watch 👍 Au
And it is just the right size for guys like me who think the current Submariner is too big. The original Submariner was 37 mm and it was a big watch for its day.
Let's be frank, that Longines is stunning. Longines may be considered mid-tier these days and take a backseat to Omega, Rolex, and Tudor, in watch snobs's eyes but it's stunning.
What model is it?
@@doriangray2347I just bought a longines conquest 41 mm silver sunburst. I can’t stop looking at it
There is no way this video is made to be serious. These are all amazing watches!!!
All of these watches are brilliant, I personally have the Seamaster and Navitimer. I love both of them.
I have the same two as well. Seamaster on odd days. Navitimer on even days.
I bought my Speedy 8 years ago, It’s my favorite Watch in my collection. I do however love the new Navitimer B06. With Pistachio Dial. I’m on wait list for Rolex Batman GMT Longines’s are also great Watch’s. Bought the Zulu GMT last year with Green Bezel and Brown leather strap. Love that piece.
Congratulations on you 1M subscribers! I have been watching this channel since the pandemic, and it really got me into watches!
I think in this current insane bubble in watches, my advice would be to sit back and check out the usedlistings. The longer you wait, the better the prices seem to get.
And avoid Rolex like the plague. They're just overhyped , overpushed and overpromoted by insufferable social media and hence, the bubble blew up.
Every day I see more Rolex on the used market and prices are coming down hard. What goes up like a lunatic will come down like a lunatic.
Still won't buy them though, as I currently can't stand what happened to the brand.
And we're in recession right now, no matter the BS of the talkingheads. It's a global recession too. So just be patient would be my motto.
To each his own. I have a no date Rolex Sub and love it. That said, if I do buy another high end watch the Tudor Pelagos 39 will be the one.
Recession or no recession if you buy or bought an Omega, Tudor, Seiko etc at rrp you would instantly lose money out the door. With Rolex (most steel pieces anyway) they’ll always again in value at rrp, even if now less than they did. Still a great brand to acquire from the AD if you can, financially, and if you love their designs, as I do, it’s win-win imho.
Just save up for and A Lange and Sohne, Vacheron Constantin and FP Journe. They will become very valuable brands in the future and getting one of their pieces early could be a brilliant buy a decade down the line. On top of the that the watches themselves are so much better than any Rolex Patek or AP
@@all-caps3927 😆 you know how tough it is to get hold of an FP Journe at retail… almost impossible.
@@TonyAguirreJazz personally, if you're looking for another diver, 58 is actually the best from the line up. something about the 54 is muted. But then again, 58 is similar to your no date Sub, So Pelagos is alright.
I’m avoiding ALL of these watches… because I can’t afford any of them!😂
I can pay for, but I DONT WANT TO WASTE MY MONEY!
My thoughts exactly on the Casio 2100. I bought the silver case with silver hands and couldn't see a damn thing in broad daylight. I ended up giving it to my stepson as a going to university present and buying the blue dial version.
Great vid andy! Have the tissot PRX powermatic on blue rubber strap as my weekend watch and my omega aqua terra on both blue rubber and stainless steel bracelet love them both still have my great tissot elegance from my lovely dear departed mum from 20 years ago as a birthday gift! I buy what I like and nothing else should matter and all watch gifts should be embraced regardless! BTW love your videos, especially on your own channel 👍👍
'The Tudor black Bay Pro is very much 3D. It's so 3D in fact that many people thought it was too 3D.' 😂
I don't get the point being put across, as popping out in a 3D fashion from a wrist is surely a bonus. I intend to buy one, but will obviously try it on first. Will be interesting to see if his comments sway my decision.....
I have a Tudor BB blue bezel in 41 mm.. wear it everyday. Love it
Loved it. Great idea and executed perfectly.
Cool, learning what not to do is a great short-cut.
Thanks Watchfinder & Co. friends.
I recently bought a Grand Seiko Titanium after trying it on. I thought it might be too light but I'm good with it.
Congratulations. What model number? I'm also interested in a GS. Specifically SBGA481. Thx
Totally agree with your comments on the Casioak.. I have the Black out version went out one day with it upside down on my wrist didn’t realise till I was asked the time.!
Have to admit that that also happenend to me. The strap is just so symetrical
This is a pisstake right ? Feels like an April Fools video
Andrew, you are the reason I bought a Speedmaster! You should get some sort of commission
10 watch channels to avoid
Buy him one 😊
After getting into mechanical watches, I honestly think I like a manual wind over an auto a lot of the time. With all my autos, I never know if it is near full wind or not, and accuracy dips if they are below 50%. With a manual wind, you just wind it fully before putting it on the wrist every day and you know you are good to go. Also for the Speedy, a rotor would just block the view of that beautiful movement.
So manually wind your autos every morning just like the speedy.....
@hittingreens5646 this is what I did for a while, but it began taking too long to keep them all wound and running. A pitfall of having 30+ automatic watches. Now I just pick the one I'm wearing for the day and wind it. So to me, hand-wound or auto is a completely moot point, I couldn't care less if it's either, as long as it's mechanical 🤷🏻♂️
Winding your watch every day can be quite a therapeutic part of your morning schedule
@@thetattedpharmacist3215You know that winding devices are for sale right? 😅
@@hittingreens5646 Apparently some automatic movements really don't like being hand wound! They CAN be, but it causes very fast excessive wear on some of the parts (The gears that disengage the rotor, so I've heard). ETA 2824-2 being one example.
I'm on the hunt for a new watch for around $1000 and I'm so glad I found this channel. 🇦🇺 😊
As an owner of a black-black Casioak, I concur it can be really hard to read and don't get me started on the mediocre light that last .5 seconds. With that said, I still wear it more than my other watches.
Can't you change it to 3 seconds? That's what I did.
I have myself a handwound watch and it doesn´t bother me a bit.
It´s better to have a handwinding mechanism without automation than a automatic without handwinding imo.
Anybody know what the strap is on the BB54 0:54? Been looking for something similar for my 58 for ages.
6:15 Adjusting the timing bezel requires unscrewing the 2nd crown, right? Will water enter the watch if bezel is adjusted while swimming on the surface of the water? Recommended action or not?
you are so right I loved the casioak design got one and could not see a thing. Plus it was as if the last 20 years of user interface optimization had been obliterated so hard to use I had to send it back regretfully
“the suave murderer” is my new favorite nickname for Bond - 5:35
I was thinking that, I wanted to purchase the Tag Heuer Carrera Date 36mm. Do you think it's a good watch for my first luxury watch collection?
Every one of these is awesome, and you should buy two. Vintage diver craze....Oris says it's about time, we have been here a while.
You are a hell of a writer. I kept cracking up during the whole video. Great job!
Thank you! Really helpful 👌
So good to finally see you in your videos
I’m starting to find Andrew’s opinions questionable ever since he ranked Apple Watch higher on the chart than Patek
You don't get it, simple! It's fun, don't take it too serious...
@@ernestkrajnc6412 That isn’t a watch it’s a gadget. Might as well add a phone to the list because it shows the time
I've followed Your stories since 2019. Better: I've studied Your stories for the last 5 years. So I'm very happy You've just reached the 1 million, Andrew. Congratulations! You got me, and walked me, into watches. And I can tell You: I'm a guy who's very picky and very very hard to catch. And You did it by just (very well) telling stories. I owe You one, Andrew. At least as much as You'd owe me ... for making me spend a real fortune in money ... and wonderful life time. Thank You so much, Andrew. Keep up the better work and, if I may, remember: The good stories will stay forever while the screams will (sooner or later) fade away. Let's celebrate!
The Navitimer is an iconic chronograph. In no way should anyone ignore it!
I have one it’s an awesome watch
thanks for this. clearly insightful
What dribble is this, speedmaster, navitimer, nautilus are iconic, some of the greatest and personal favorites within my collection
8:23 yeap can confirm that, I have it on my wrist right now, I have the camo gray model and in normal lighting conditions it's pretty readable, but if it's a little dark well good look m8, if you buy one I recommend contrasting indices with the color of the resin case
The advice on the CasiOak was so spot on.
"Too 3D". Very good! As good as "Too much perspective".
Loving that the sarcasm is lost on most. 😂
I've always found the complaint about the 40mm PRX strange. I have tiny 6.25" wrists so thought I would go for the 35mm. I tried it on and it was tiny, so I tried on the 40mm and its perfectly sized. I've never regretted going with the 40mm.
I have skinny wrists and tried on a PRX recently too. The 35 was tiny, but the 40 was just a bit too broad on account of its end links. Maybe I should try it with a rubber strap?
@@nk6947 mines on the bracelet. I do have quite flat wrists, which probably helps a little
agreed. i didn't end up buying either, but the 35 seemed so small on my relatively skinny wrists.. the 40 was a good size to me
I own a Seastar and his take on Tissot here is especially bad. It's one of my favorite watches and an outstanding value. Then again , I don't have the wrists of a 16 year old Dallas debutante.
The Black Bay Pro in 41 or 42mm would make it perfect. 39mm is too small.
How can you crucify such classics..some of us like winding watches and changing gears.. Well presented..as always.
I've got two Omega Seamaster's, one is 37mm & the other is 41mm. A good question to ask a jeweler is "does the manufacturer use plastic or metal gears? That is usually the difference between a $900 watch versus on that is twice the amount. A cheap maker is Invicta. Any of their watches tat are under $100, is a close out. They are also known as gaudy & oversized watches.
got a laugh out of this vid jaja... although the Omega NTTD "issue" is really not an issue at all... i think is one of the bestwatches ever.... some day, some day....
Great video :))) The only thing is that it is about 10 watches to potentially avoid :)
I have never been disappointed since I became a customer of NKUWAN . Their timepieces are of exceptional quality.
I bought a G-Shock in dark blue, and I can barely read the time, never mind anything in the LCD areas. Time to move it on, I think.
I never know when he is serious or not.
I know! He's never sirious... 😎
This was an awesome video.. I have a Tudor BB Pro and Casioak.. this video made me giggle 👍🏻👍🏻
I bought a 54, I love it so much. I don't like wearing my other watches now. I know that wears off sometimes but I don't think it will.
I'm fairly new to watch collecting, and SO FAR, I've not made too many horiffic mistakes, at least not expensive ones anyway. Accidentally bought a vintage Doxa on Ebay, having only seen it very briefly late at night while half asleep (Totally my fault), and when it arrived, it was half the size I expected.....Bloody ladies watch, not a gents. My ex boss bought that one off me. The other mistake was buying a REALLY cheap 'Mechanical' watch, that I wanted just to take it apart, and it turned out that the seller was lying, and it was quartz, dressed up with fake cogs to look mechanical on the pics! Hadn't lost too much on that, so no massive harm done! Bloody sick of seeing Tissot PRXs now LOL. Not a fan!
- My Tudor preference is the Black Bay M79230B-0008 41mm with the white hand set, and matt blue anodised aluminium Bezel insert for a little color.
I Prefer the slightly bigger size.
STILL has the retro signed crown with the Tudor rose, Domed sapphire crystal, and Rivet bracelet... A modern / retro look(LoL), the best of both worlds.
- TISSOT preference is the GENTLEMAN POWERMATIC 80 SILICIUM T127.407.11.041.00, I just don't like integrated bracelets and the PRX.
- Love the Omega Speedmaster Pro Chronograph... it's on my list, and I DON'T even like CHRONOGRAPHS.
“Part watch….part DeVinci code” 😂😂😂 not for OLD eyes….for sure!
To summarize, if you are brain-scattered, undecided and easily-influenced, than keep watching different channels and listen to everything that everyone says. If, on the other hand, you know what you like and what you want, just go for it, and “Damn the torpedoes.. “ :) Cheers!
Such a clever presentation!
Does this watch exist? Diver 40x20x12 including glass. 47 or less lug to lug. Date option at 6. Drilled lugs or quick release bracelet. Bracelet 20 down to 16 back to 20, screw links. New style extension and 1K or less. Automatic
I'm thinking of getting an Autavia recently, and I'm leaning towards the bronze version
I've never owned a bronze watch though, so I'm not sure how I'll feel about the patina later on
I'm starting to think i should go for the stainless steel version to be safe
Anyone here owns the watch and would like to share some your experience?
I have experience with the bronze Autavia and it seems to have some sort of coating that prevents patina. My other bronze watches turns green, along with my wrist. My Autavia does not. I bought a bronze Autavia, sold it and regretted immediately. Bought a new one and it stays.
@@boldold Thank you for sharing
Almost 1 million subs congratulations man
Andrew, the writing here is spot on! 😂
You may have got a fake Navitimer, if the dial is messy.I've two navitimer, an old Cosmonaute and the last BO1 edition, and I can assure you that there is no problem with the dial or the slide rule.
I didn't hear a reason to avoid Tudor. Can I order the ceramic or should I cancel?
I have a collection of watches that embrace Rolex, Seiko, Citizen, Tag Heuer and recently the Tudor BB54. It’s so refreshing to wear a watch that doesn’t dwarf my wrist like the Rolex, Seiko & Tag Heuer. It’s the watch I wear the most because it’s an understatement and does what all watches should do tell the time and not be flipped as investments or shout “steal me”.
James Bond.. suave murderer.. that one was a HOME RUN!!!😂
The best voice in horology
As readable as Finnegans Wake! I got a chuckle out of that one. Most of these watches are way out of my price range. The only advice I can give from the lower price range is that if you have an hankering for a vintage mechanical dive watch, you can't get more appropriate than a real vintage Seiko Turtle. A true tool watch that has been worn by more real divers than just about anything else. They were made to last, require little maintenance and IMO are a great looking watch. The winding won't hack or manual wind, which is a minor inconvenience to me, but may be a deal killer for others. It is a big watch, but it still looks good on my smallish wrist.
I have a vintage Seiko Turtle which I bought in the 90's. I was told many times that it was a nice watch but worthless. I think I only paid about $20 for it. It still runs great and is finally getting the appreciation that it always deserves. Personally, I've always liked it!
The PP 5180 is one of the most gorgeous time pieces I have ever seen.
Congrats on 1 million subscribers 🎉
I love my Black Bay Pro it a perfect size I have 7.5” wrist works well
I’ve got a couple of Rolexes and I bought a Black Bay Pro as a day
wearer. I like it so much I barely wear the big guns any more. It’s that good and I have no problem with the thickness, it works perfectly. I’m sorry, but I disagree with this review. It’s one of the best watches I’ve ever owned.
me too
I am large of wrist at 7.5 inches. So I favor watches 42mm or above. If I want to consider something smaller, I would need to go try it on. Though to be fair, you should never buy without trying it on anyway. That said, thus far I have bought all my watches blind (online), and so far its worked out nicely.
I have a 2009 Navitimer ref A23322, blue dial with batons. I bought it second hand. Is it a busy dial? Yes. By and large the tiny silvered scales of the slide rule are too small to read, at least with my old eyes. But, those silvered scales are decorative more than they are practical and instead the inticracy make the dial beautiful in it's own way by playing with the light. I love it.
I also have a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, black dial, titanium on the 98B bracelet (ref: 5015-12B30-98B). Is it a big watch? Oh yes. Does the titanium make it feel too light? Actually, no. While I haven't handled the steel version to compare it to, I find my titanium edition still has quite enough heft to feel substantial. Probably the sheer size combined with the large three barrelled movement and with it being on the bracelet. And the quality is awesome. It feels solid like it's hewn from rock. The bezel action is incredible; audible and tactiley. The bracelet is an amazing piece of engineering and craftmanship, which would only let down for some by the lack of a quick adjust, but not by me. I love this thing, and it's often my first choice to wear.
But I consider myself lucky having bought these blind and to have got away with it thus far. I have several watches on my shortlist for a next purchase, and a few of them I definitely need to look at first before committing money to them. Be careful out there people.
What a great video! Should remind everyone, that there is no „best watch“, no matter what influencers might want to tell us (looking at all these shiny BB58 videos…). Rather there MIGHT be one, that ticks a lot of boxes for an individual.
But seriously though.... BB58 is a magnificent watch... no video can justify it's beauty. you have to hold it and witness it with your own eyes
@@r.sakarollsafe1285 You are not far wrong. I have the black / gilt one on the strap. A beautiful watch.
I’ve got one TH Carrera and a few more cooking watches. As much as I love the Carrera the two Tissots I bought for two of my sons are very nice indeed - esp the Gentleman (naff name) Powermatic on the brown leather strap. I do though have a hankering for a Seiko Prospex Solar and which might be an early New Year pressie to myself if there’s a deal to be done anywhere. Buy what you like and can afford, not what anyone else tells you to buy.
Three times cheaper? You mean a third of the price?
My Bond was beautiful but my issue was the tan just made legibility annoying. Otherwise it would have been a lifer.
Well presented Bro. You made me chuckle, particularly, remarks about the Breitling Navitimer. PS; 'pale hairy arms'... (wax & tan) 😅
What a hoot! Loved this video!
What do you think of Baume et Mercier 10468, dark blue watch?
I had no idea that the blacked out Casioak existed. It sent chills up my spine. It's something I've never seen before. Sorry, not sorry Richard Mille. Is the Casioak an atomic bomb? A watch possessed by a demon? Strap it on and someone will have to call a priest. The H. Moser & Cie Vantablack watch is so black it reflects no light, but somehow the Casioak's black is blacker. It scares the shit out me.
Get the BB58. It has the perfect proportions and quality. If you like a more modern look get the blue, otherwise the OG black is the one to get.
Negative Display with Casio G Shock need to be improved or eliminated as they impede the functionality of the watch. I just bought my 1st G Shock GBA 900 Red and while the watch looks great the digital display is hard to read in anything but good lighting conditions.
Less than 1000 subscribers needed to reach 1 million.
Congratulations :)
I would rather say that these are watches to buy. Super quality , value for money and classic designs. Watches you want to wear and dont have to worry about getting a scratch
Andrew, the unique patina on the Longines bronze legend diver is great. It’s a fabulous watch:)
sometimes you hunt & might find a watch you think maybe this is the ONE but then it happens all of a sudden you realize that the watch only comes in a certain size/ style /color ect ect BUT ! wait a thought occurs maybe they might make a different model or perhaps the the watch you desire just has not been invented yet? this conundrum is not an easy problem to deal with and sooo my conclusion is that i will have too wait for either a new / updated version or just go ahead and pull the trigger ...while possibly still waiting ?!
For the no time to die i had expected you to at least mention the enormous clasp on that titanium strap, thats the real deal-breaker for me😅
The sarcasm in this video is crazy 🤣
Very clever 😊
That was an amazing summary; hitting the nails on the head 💪🏻🕰️
The Navitimer-- "part watch, part DaVinci Code."
For those of us who know how to use it...the circular slide rule on the bezel is incredibly useful. Not just for flying, but in a restaurant, calculating a tip... when travelling, knowing instantly how much things cost in our own currency...
I had enough of slide rules in high school. @@VampireParrot
I don't think you give the luxury watch crowd all wrong. I have complete faith in them that they are capable of winding their watch. I have no where near that kind of wealth, and I manage to charge my phone every day!
This one was absolutely hysterical! My sides are aching I laughed so hard! Brilliant!
Doesn't Tissot have plastic parts in the movement?
BUT THE INVICTA 1953. Put a high-quality leather band on it. You will have a watch with a Seiko movement for around
$100.00.
For me the Tudor Black Bay Bronze with slate dial is the perfect dive watch. I love mine and in addition to the grey leather and two different fabric straps from the factory have had quite a few made for it. I think though I'd prefer it in steel, as it can be a pain to keep bright (have to do the ketchup thing every couple of months). Why on earth they don't make a proper sized 43mm steel Black Bay dive watch baffles me. Instead as you mentioned they came up with some stupid wee thing at 37mm, I tried it on at WoS and it looked like it had shrunk in the watch. It's a ladies' version.
Mind you my smallest watch is an early 00s IWC Doppel at 42mm, with a Panerai 514 the biggest which measures 47mm but wears surprisingly modestly. I have an 8in wrist, hardly uncommon these days. I really don't get why so many recent releases are 1950s-sized tiddlers. People are quite a lot bigger today than they used to be 70 years ago.
