I use to own an 88 Mustang GT so the choice wasn’t easy but ultimately went with the Model Y basically because of the brand cache, super charger network and the better screen interface. 👍🏽. 10 week estimated delivery! 🚙
The phantom breaking happens when you pass under a bridge or over an expressway because the GPS reads the different roads and signs causing the car to suddenly brake. I had this happen several times and I researched why.
Really complete review of the Y. Enjoying mine without all the new changes. They don't matter at all because this is still the best car available at any price. ANY PRICE!
As I am waiting for my Model Y to arrive and still hesitating on red vs white, I have to admit this was one of the best review video I have seen around (and I have watched many!). Thank you for the very detailed feedback! One question: do you still like the red after all this time? Getting tired of it?
Ryan Shaw upgrades his suspension from something sporty that hugs to the road to something even MORE sporty that hugs the road even MORE and makes even MORE road noise. Way to go!
I have to say thank you for the videos, they helped me pass the two weeks between ordering and delivery. We took delivery of our first Tesla, a Model Y, on 12/29. To keep this brief....we LOVE IT! However, the phantom breaking issue is real. I don't care if it is just seeing shadows on the road, it's a problem. I am very aware of it now, and kind of expect it to happen. I am very worried that the issue will get me rear ended at some point. A day after taking delivery, we decided to take a trip to Titusville for a week. With charging, this is about an 18-19 hour drive each way. I experienced the phantom breaking issue at least a dozen times over the duration of the trip.
Yeah this is a lie 2021 being sold in match if you do the math. But I'm sure it's a 2020 but he needs to put 2021 so ppl can click. But it is still a great review.
I don’t have Twitter or Instagram but I have one huge question... I currently have a deposit down for a Model Y and am deciding when to take delivery. There has been talk about new federal tax policy that would reinstate the $7,500 federal tax rebate for all EV companies (including Tesla and GM regardless of the production output) for annual household incomes under $250,000. If this occurs at some point within the 2021 calendar year and we take order in January, 2021, are we eligible for that federal rebate? No one has been able to answer this for me and I think it’s a big deal...am I missing something?
I was about to order a model y but this review made me didn't do it. thank you for your review. I just didn't want to deal with frustration from quality issues
In my area, electricity is 6.7 cents per kWh, so it's actually significantly more economical to get a Tesla over gas, but at the same time not nearly as economical to get solar panels for our house. Will probably get solar panels eventually, but going to get a Tesla first. A full charge is more like $5 than $12.
Your video just reassured me on my decision to wait on getting a Model Y. I’ll wait maybe 5 more years. A lot of quality control issues that need to be addressed seems to be a problem Tesla has always had. Thx for this video!
Ryan, great video - thanks for all the hard work! I ordered my Model Y and am expecting to receive it before the end of the year (I'm trading my model 3 in since they never came out with the tow package for it). I know you talked a lot about quality control issues - I'd love to see a video on 'what to inspect or look out for' when receiving delivery so that we all have a good instruction manual for making sure our quality is what it should be. Just a suggestion on a new video since you already have a lot of the footage.
Nice video! I am a picky buyer but sadly needed to just get a car and couldn't wait. Just took delivery of my MY yesterday! It is 74xxx serial and all the panels lined up/it looks good so far. Only issue is condensation in the taillights but going to get them taken care of. For those newer features, I think the most important ones (flash drive in glove box, double windows, and dimmed side mirrors) are already included and are great. You can always buy a hepa air filter to replace the stock one, and instead of a heated steering wheel, you can just preheat your cabin 5 mins before getting in your car from your phone! Anyone on the fence about buying definitely should just take the leap! Great car.
Thanks for all the information. Keep up the good work. I just ordered a Model Y on Saturday and used your referral. Received my VIN the day i placed my order, and then I received delivery day appointment yesterday!
Hey Ryan, wanted to start off by saying that your videos are extremely entertaining and want to thank you for your insightful information. Just want to leave my two cents on the Model Y for anyone who wants an opinion from someone who had an insanely negative experience from the car. I took delivery of my LR with 19 inch geminis on November 27th. My VIN is MF07xxx but I DO NOT have any of the new additions (autodimming mirrors, new steering wheel usb, etc...) I am a car guy, I have owned and driven both Japanese and German. My Model Y has so many issues (trim noise, road chatter, liftgate buzz, headrest buzz, wheel well snapping noises, taillight condensation, black out screen) that makes the Model Y virtual undriveable. This car was horribly designed, they should have reegineered the vehicle from the ground up instead of sharing the blueprints with the Model 3. The vehicle is an echo chamber that amplifies any sound that occurs inside. The smallest road bump sends SHOCKWAVES through the trunk and the rear seats. All of my passengers have asked me "why is this car so loud and bumpy?". The problem isn't the suspension (many sporty crossovers have tight springs). It's the fact that the vehicle is poorly designed. The rear seats and trunk area virtual have no sound dampening material that makes road noise sound like BB gun shots everytime you drive over uneven pavement. You'll find $20,000 cars that drive better than this. Moving onto technology, Tesla's LTE connectivity constantly drops out and the Spotify application only works 7/10 times. 20% of tracks skip like crazy, and some songs don't even play, even though they are listed in the playlist. For those that have a Tesla, check out the track - Now We Sleep by Artificial Language to see what I'm talking about. Now onto the battery. Listed range is 525 km (I'm Canadian), but seriously expect half the actual range provided. I'm literally charging every other night when a tank of gas used to last me a week. I've contacted my local service center and now am on my 4th appointment whilst all problems persist. I just want to enjoy this damn car but can't help but feel robbed by Tesla of $80,000 (Canadian). I've also escalated all of my concerns via an email to Tesla. If anyone has any advice for me in regards to the issues I'm experiencing please, I am begging for solutions at this point. This car is ridiculously expensive and at this time I am fully regretting the purchase of the Model Y.
I don’t have the sentry mode usb nor do I have the metal scroll wheels but I do have auto dimming mirrors and when I use the voice command “turn on heated steering” it says it failed to turn it on. I received it on Nov30 and my model is 2021 according to Tesla site.
I took a massive break from watching videos on YT and such. I came back and I’m catching up on all your videos. Good content. I always appreciate it. Keep doing your thing man.
YES! My upvote got your 8K likes! LOL Great video! Thank you! I think the model Y performance is my favorite so far from Tesla... although I've paid the deposit for the cybertruck. Not sure I can wait until 2023 though.
Lots of Model 3 just arrived from China in Europe. The quality of these asian cars are awesome. No panel gaps, perfect seats, no color issues - simply amazing. I'm told some early MY for Europe will delivered soon from China. I am not unhappy... :-)
Not having to get an oil change... not having to go to the gas station (charge at home)... less maintenance visits... saving $ is great but time saved is even more significant.
3:47 Agreeing with you. Since when has the speedometer not being in front of the steering wheel been a problem? It's not a new idea. The original Austin Mini had a speedo in the middle of the dashboard before 1960, for example, and it's still there in the latest models of the BMW Fat Mini. If it was a problem, then it would certainly have been corrected over the past 60 years. Many other vehicles have had similar dashboard layouts, and they too have sold by the million.
Regen is great. However at low speeds, if you turn down a slope, it does not engage. Need to brake. Does this when turning into the down ramp to our building's garage entrance.
Love your videos Ryan! And thank you for talking about RWD!!! I'm so sick of Tesla sales reps telling me they aren't making the RWD! How do they sale 4 cars and still not know what's going on with them!?!? 🤦♀️
The new double windows don't work with noise reduction. TeslaBjorn tested this and it's not helping because they only did the front windows and not the back.
I want to get a mode y but i need the pillar covers and headliner to be black. I hate that sillverish headliner. The new model s has All Back interior and pillar covers and headliner the way it should be.
My wife and I contactlessly tested a Model Y several weeks back, but were put off by the small rear-view vista. Is this mitigated by the dash view of surrounding cars? Thanks for the comprehensive review!
Now starts at $41K! Rear-wheel drive is totally fine, even in snow. The Tesla drivetrain is incredible at handling slippery conditions. Definitely my next car, and my first long-range EV. Excited!!
I've never seen your channel before but that was a great unbiased review. Thanks. The mystery rattles in the car are my personal hell so that worries me quite a bit.
No car is perfect and if you wait another year, it will be even more features. They're like computers or phones. Every 2 years your existing computer or phone becomes almost obsolete. I have ordered my Y and it is expected anywhere from Dec 12 to Dec 31. Hopefully it has some of these new features. I'm waiting to buy a console wrap until I know if I get a new console design. I think your referral link is good on any Tesla car or even the solar panels. You kept saying "if you order a model Y..."
This might seem petty but I have to ask. So, I test drove a model Y and was shocked at the lack of visibility through the rear windshield. The Tesla only has a slit to look through. It’s almost non existent. I’m used to a huge rear windshield. Now, I realize that the Model Y has a camera, but I don’t like that I’d have to push a button and look at the screen in order to scan behind me, rather than a quick glance in my rear view mirror. Feels unsafe. What do you think about this?
I'm looking at the model Y. It does come with Autopilot, right? Under Autopilot, the Tesla site just says, "All new Tesla cars come standard with emergency braking, collision warning, blind-spot monitoring and more." That's kind of vague.
If Tesla Y would cost the same in Finland as it does in US, half of the country would get it. Right now it starts with a nice 65k EUR, without self driving, which is 73k USD. And no rebates...
,.. as it should be.. the “look” is totally subjective.... chocolate or vanilla, Coke or Pepsi, blonde or brunette... It’s YOUR choice.. I so detest people who rant “I hate the look, so nobody should buy it!”
No news of lower pricing for the MY. That said, will be interesting to see if Biden/Harris reinstate the full Fed EV tax credits for manufacturers over 200k EV units sold, if that’s what you are referring to. For more info, here's how it works: Each automaker is eligible for $7,500 in credits for each electric vehicle sold, up to 200,000 sales. Six months after hitting that target, the tax credit gets halved, to $3,750, for six months, then halved again, to $1,875, for another six. After that, the credit goes to zero.
Hey Ryan! Even though FSD is ridiculously overpriced, would you say that for where it’s at currently that it’s better valued at $5k? I ask because NJ offers an EV rebate of $5K (i.e. half the cost), and I’m wondering if it’s worth “investing” in FSD for my Y.
It is still priced for future capabilities. I have done several trips and love the Navigation on Autopilot. It makes it so much safer. I can only imagine the price going up when they add the full city navigation self drive
Today my Model y determined it should start accelerating when the car in front of me is breaking. It was not fun! Got my car then found out they are making upgrades to the battery etc.. I was not very happy!
Ryan, as always, a great review. I've been seeing more Model Y's on the streets of Utah lately and that made me think of you. Keep up the excellent work! Remind me, do you have a Cyber truck ordered yet? :) Uncle Phil
Thanks for the video! I also have a LR MY in Red, Black induction wheels , with White Interior. The only rattling I hear is my Swell bottle in the cup holder. Used to the stiff suspension. Would have loved a double pan glass, metal dials & built in Century mode!
Seems like the cost of energy between a hybrid and a Tesla is about the same. Always thought it would be far less in a Tesla. Still, the performance is unmatched.
Man, I got the MY in early November. Last 5 digits in VIN (if that’s where you get it) indicate a little over 63k. Did I really miss the double paned glass and USB port and flash drive and metal scroll wheels by a few days???
How does carpool work in Cali, do we apply for the sticker does Tesla do it? And how long can we use the carpool for? Thanks for your informative videos.

If Tesla Y would cost the same in Finland as it does in US, half of the country would get it. Right now it starts with a nice 65k EUR, without self driving, which is 73k USD. And no rebates...
Do you know if the brake lights come on when you let off the gas, come to a stop without using the brake, etc?
They do
How much time did your trip get extended by tesla vs gas car due to charge vs refueling
I preordered one but cancelled once I saw it in person. I just couldn't bring myself to like the looks.
,.. as it should be.. the “look” is totally subjective.... chocolate or vanilla, Coke or Pepsi, blonde or brunette...
It’s YOUR choice..
I so detest people who rant “I hate the look, so nobody should buy it!”
I agree all tesla cars are ugly af
I agree. The model y looks good on camera but in person not the best looking it reminds me of a Prius...
Great Video with updated info. Is it wise to wait few more weeks to get a better price on model Y?
No news of lower pricing for the MY. That said, will be interesting to see if Biden/Harris reinstate the full Fed EV tax credits for manufacturers over 200k EV units sold, if that’s what you are referring to.
For more info, here's how it works: Each automaker is eligible for $7,500 in credits for each electric vehicle sold, up to 200,000 sales. Six months after hitting that target, the tax credit gets halved, to $3,750, for six months, then halved again, to $1,875, for another six. After that, the credit goes to zero.
Very thorough! Good stuff, man!
How is it a 2021 when its produced in 2019-2020?
Did you like your Red color? Any complain about quality and clean problems?

Where did you get the suspension for your Model Y
Sentry?????
Does anyone know when the Tesla Y will arrive in the UK?
Omg you made me want this car even more 🤤
I was one of your referrals!
Just did a video comapring the tesla model y with a rx can i get ur input !
Great reviews on model y. Wish your channel continued successful!!!
Seems like the cost of energy between a hybrid and a Tesla is about the same. Always thought it would be far less in a Tesla. Still, the performance is unmatched.
I think in general, when Tesla releases a new model, you probably don't want to buy one of the first 25,000 units.

Nice video
Man, I got the MY in early November. Last 5 digits in VIN (if that’s where you get it) indicate a little over 63k. Did I really miss the double paned glass and USB port and flash drive and metal scroll wheels by a few days???
If I’m picking my model y up Friday. Is it too late to use the referral code? I was never asked for one.
Thank you for such a thorough and honest review 👏
How does carpool work in Cali, do we apply for the sticker does Tesla do it? And how long can we use the carpool for? Thanks for your informative videos.
